Lachlan: Vampires in Europe

Rate this book
Scotland—sweeping forests, tumbling waterfalls. . .and towering highlands where vampire warriors have ruled for centuries.

Lethal and charismatic, vampire Lachlan McRae woke on his first night to death and devastation—his clan slaughtered, his fortress destroyed. One hundred and fifty years later, driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved, he’s ready to hunt down and kill the one vampire who was behind it all—Erskine Ross, the Vampire Lord of Scotland.

Beautiful, smart, and cool under pressure, Julia Harper is determined to prove she’s more than a child of wealth and privilege. When a lifelong friend is murdered by vampires, she steps out of her role as an analyst for the CIA, and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland—the deadly Erskine Ross.

Recruited by a friend to arrange contact between Lachlan and her best friend Cyn’s mate, the powerful Vampire Lord Raphael, Julia soon discovers that she and Lachlan want the same thing . . . Erskine’s death. But when Erskine sets out to kill Julia instead, she and Lachlan find themselves fighting for her life, and for a love that neither one of them can trust.

I wish I could give more then 5stars!!!! One of the best vamp romances I've read!!! And you all know me,I've read a lot of them. Lachlan was swoon worthy from how he looked to his dirty talking, which is one of my fave things and he's a total predator with a dark and dangerous vibe.Julia is a strong and in control woman, but she had no chance once lachlan decided she would be his. The storyline was fabulous with great secondary characters and bad vamps as well. This is a very steamy read with toe curling love making that had my heart pumping! I couldn't swipe the pages on my kindle fast enough!Highlanders know how to go low and more!! I've put this series on my tbr gr list!! Raphael and cyn were very interesting and I need to know their story too. D.B. Reynolds I hope your ready, because your my new obsession! Until next time luv's💖💋

4 Yummy Scottish Stars

So the last book in the series, Quinn, was a total disappointment for me. I didn't feel the love in that book. I was worried when I got Lachlan that it would be like Quinn, but it wasn't. Lachlan was so much better. This right here is why I love D.B. Reynolds and her writing. I felt the love! I felt the action, and I really felt the yummy Scottish Lord. I really like were the series is going. Book 13 and Vampires in America is still going strong.

Broody, protective, powerful, and sexy af Lachlan was everything I want in a hero. Throw in that Scottish brogue, and I was in heaven. Julia at first came off cold, and distant like a total ice queen. As the story went she opened up. Julia turned out to be sweet, smart and brave. I loved Lachlan and Julia together. They were smoking hot together, but there were some really sweet moments too. I did wish I could have gotten a better feel for Lachlan's cousins. The plot of the book was really good. I loved the how Julia got her payback on Erskine. I also really loved Raphael and Cyn's part in the book. Overall a great read and a great addition to the series I can't wait to see who is next!

Wow!! Just... give me a minute... I'm still pretty blown away. When a new-to-me author taps into everything I could possibly like in a story on the first go, I'm hooked. Lachlan is the 13th book of the Vampires in America series and I've got to go back and read the first twelve!

This Book!
✫ a huge, sexy, confident, powerful vampire (Lachlan) who is bent on revenge against the vampire who wiped out most of his clan
✫ a beautiful, intelligent, determined woman (Julia) who is looking to wreak vengeance against the vampire who took out her best friend
✫ tons of extremely hot tension and intimacy. It took a while to get there, but when it FINALLY happened, it was HAWT many times over
✫ the action scenes were amazeballs
✫ side characters that I'm actually interested in learning more about
✫ an ending that hints at something else to come, but also made me wish for more of an ending for this couple
✫ a story that gave me hope that I'd be seeing these people again
✫ meeting Raphael and Cyn has me eager to read their book

I love how Reynolds wrote about vampires in a way that I've never experienced before. Where some of their features can be found in other literature, so much of what made them wonderful were the unique characteristics she gave them, such as their mystical powers. I'm intrigued by it all! One of the other great things about this book was how it read like a standalone, but I can see how the stories all tie together. So I was able to be introduced to this author's writing, to this vampire world, and to be tempted to read everything else in this series. If you love vampires, action, and love, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did.

I'm happy to say that I liked this much better than the last one - Quinn.

At least here the heroine was not stubborn and listened to Quinn when she was in deep water and admitted her ignorance. That's to be appreciated!

Lachlan was also a nice guy, ops, vampire. He had a healthy idea that it was a good thing to keep into Raphael's good grace without being a doormat. Just one vapire lord to another. No groveling, but simple information was given about how he thought things should have been managed.

Also the relationship between Lachlan and Julia was nicely done. I admit that I skipped some of the sex scenes (yes, I know it was not to be done, but there were too many of them!), but I appreciated the fact that they talked with each other and listened what one has to say!

Obviously, in a true Reynolds' fashion, their attraction is instantaneous, but I could feel also that there was more to it than just lust.

Now I'm curious to know who's the misterous man at the end of the book is! :)

4 Scottish Highlander Vampire Stars!!

As I’ve said in the past D.B. Reynolds is truly a master storyteller! Once again she has given us another delicious vampire to fall in love with along with another kickass heroine to admire.

Lachlan McRae is a Scottish Highlander who happens to be a vampire, a vampire who woke from his rebirth in 1846 to find most of his clan slaughtered by a rival clansmen led by Erskine Ross. Unfortunately, as a new vampire he didn’t have to strength to challenge the older rival vampire clan leader, who, present day is now the Vampire Lord of Scotland.

Julia Harper is a CIA analyst who comes from wealth and is a childhood friend of Cyn’s. When another childhood friend of Julia’s is murdered she takes leave from her job to investigate his murder and exact revenge.

 photo 7FAF2EB9-7A21-4717-94BC-AE58AAD84AB6_zpsncnr1afk.jpeg

“And if he calls me ‘princess’ one more time, I’m going to stake him,” she muttered, then cocked her head, thinking she should check with Cyn about that.”

Turns out Erskine Ross may have information or be directly involved which takes her to England and directly to Lachlan who has his own reasons to kill Erskine. They make a pact but part of Lachlan’s plan involves Julia agreeing to introduce him to Lord Raphael. Lachlan wants to meet with Lord Raphael to insure he won’t be interfering with him challenging Erskine for the title of Lord of Scotland. Things seem to be falling into place for Lachlan including his relationship with Julia except....it seems someone is out to kill Julia, his Princess.

She’d waited until she was dating a vampire to do the whole cuddle routine. And dating? Was that what they were doing? Not much dating going on so far. It was more of a business agreement with benefits. Although it felt like more, damn it.

All-in-all another fantastic addition to this wonderful series. As usual we get a glimpse into the next book and once again I’m very intrigued. I can’t wait for more!!!!

Can I ask that we all just take a moment to appreciate that cover because all too often the artwork and the character portrayed seldom matches. Here with the next book featuring how the Vampire world within Europe is changing the author introduces Lachlan and that Scot is everything readers have come to expect. Yes he’s all brawn, brains and heart and it all combines to make him a formidable enemy. Having been biding his time and consolidating his Clan he’s now ready to go into battle and it’s one he intends to win . He just needs to confirm that the most powerful Vampire in the world doesn’t already have his sights on Scotland and that’s why he finds himself with a very human ally .
Julia was devastated when her friend was murdered and she’s in England determined to take out the Vampire who she believes is responsible. She doesn’t really understand the secretive world of Vampires but it’s soon very apparent that her goals and those of Lachlan definitely coincide. He’s big, he’s bold and clearly confident but that little thing called chemistry isn’t that easy for Julia to ignore. Thrown together the couple are seeking more than just revenge they both are hunting for justice. As danger creeps ever closer it’s imperative they trust each other but just who is really calling the shots ?
There’s everything I could want here with two strong, believable characters and a sneaky bad guy who deserves all that’s heading his way. Fans of this series will be overjoyed that Raphael makes an appearance but trust me Lachlan is everything readers want in a hero. I loved that the story is set up with background on Lachlan as it made the overall plot and storyline very cohesive. Julia is exactly the type of heroine I associate with this series as she’s feminine, confident, has smarts and even a practical side. Get the ice on standby when you read this but most of all definitely do read this book !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I'll be truthful here. I've been waiting for this book for a long time. And the more you wait, the higher your expectations are.

Vampires in Europe offered a spinoff from the vampires in America series. A possibility of something new being introduced, new depths and richness in characters, but man, was I sorely disappointed.

The same thing that happened in the last 4 book of this series, happened in this one too.
Of course our main character was powerful, but not more powerful than Raphael; ofcourse the heroine was close to Cynthia and of course our hero asked permission from Raphael to take the land even if he didn't need to.

Seriously?

Who could see this plot coming😱 - let me tell you - The people who have read any of her books!

I don't mean to be harsh on the author or her books. I'm a fan of hers and her writing style and more than anything would want to give her 5 Stars, but she isn't moving past Raphael and Cynthia to give other characters of her other books a space to grow or be different.

I love Scottish Lords because they are all so swon worthy no matter how you write them, but here everything the hero did felt flat.

It felt as even the author was writing about Scotland when she knew nothing about it at all.

The same scenes as in her other books, kept repeating themselves all over again in this one too. It made the content repetitive and predictable even when the author aimed for it to be different.

Would I recommend this book to D B Reynolds readers - No.

An ARC was provided to me by Netgally in exchange of an honest review.

I'm really sorry to say that DB Raynolds has gone the way an other author I once loved did: down the road of predictability and repetition.
She's writing the same story over and over again and let me tell you it doesn't improve. She's actually writing the same book almost word for word with the same fixed characters, the same identical plot, the same unsufferable purple prose, and almost the same details. (Plus here she is using details I've read in an other author's book :/ heroine is an American heiress whose father is linked to Department of xx, he is either a diplomatic or something similar in Europe, he has lost his wife and other child and so he is uber concerned and controlling about the heroine who went to a very private school...I think it's a Ann Stuart's book)

Lachand was boring, boring, boring. And above all like all her latest books we have a sex fest of epic proportion to cover up the total lack of a plot or even a love story really. If you meet, fuck, and 'love' in a couple of days, you are basically robbing me of any romance.
As in Lucifer we have sex scenes every other page, as I said to cover up this is a meat lover dinner without meat.

The overall arch is overextended for this reason. It's so thin it's clearly broken. And probably broke quite some time ago.

I can't believe this is the author who wrote Raphael and Jabril, two very good UF.

An attack by a rival clan left Lachlan McRae's clan decimated but in true Scottish mindset, he will not forget and will avenge the cowardly wrong that was committed, even if takes one hundred and fifty years. Time means nothing when you're a vampire.

As a vampire Lachlan respects strength and justness but the current Vampire Lord has proven time and time again that he lacks those qualities which is one of the reasons why Lachlan plans to challenge Erskine Ross. First though he needs to feel out North American Vampire Lord Raphael as without knowing Raphael's stand on the European Vampire territory, his plan to become Scotland's new Vampire Lord could be problematic.

CIA analyst Julia Harper has always wanted to be a field agent. Her skills and know how certainly support she's qualified but outside forces have kept her office bound.

When her childhood friend dies after being shot, it's up to her as his executor to sift through his personal effects. Finding evidence regarding the identity of Masoud's killer, Julia takes leave and heads to the UK to administer vigilante justice on the prominent vampire who was responsible for Masoud's death as law enforcement and the legal system have ruled Masoud's death the result of a random robbery.

Julia needs Lachlan to get to Erskine while Lachlan needs Julia to coordinate a meeting with Raphael. Both will need to team up as current circumstances and history show there's more going on than they know.

Though this is tagged as the 13th installment in the "Vampires In America" series, I do feel it's more a spin off series as the author has moved the locality to Europe. Maybe a more applicable series name for this book should be "Vampires in Europe, #1"......

I am a biggie fan of this author and been since Raphael. I adore the vampires in this series and have re-read the entire series at least three times. Even have signed copies that have a prominent place in my personal library. That's how much I adore this series. Getting my hands on the latest installment was orgasmic.

Lachlan & Julia. Two characters who hit it off from the start as they did the horizontal mambo too many times to keep track of. Yet, they had angst issues and secrets that had the potential to destroy any chance to make their relationship long term.

Good time to mention that Julia is a BFF to Cynthia, aka Cyn. Yup, THAT CYN. Bestie who shares Cyn's love of being bad ass and sharing a love of weapons and hand to hand combat. :)

Raphael & Cyn. I was delighted to have the author bring them into this story in a minor way as too much of them would have overshadowed the main couple and their own story.

Secondary characters. Lachlan's cousins, Fergus & Munro, were a hit/miss for me. The majority of time I appreciated their roles in this story but isolated character personality issues had my eyebrow raising. On the whole though I felt the secondary characters supported the story and circumstances surrounding the plot and story line.

My issues. I repeat that I love the author's writing style and character development in stories. Ms. Reynolds has surprised me more times than not with a twist or blind side. That's why I am struggling in my feeling that this story was problematic and contained content that just didn't work. My first issue (and I can't believe I'm saying this) was that the story was erotic scene heavy. I know I'm wrong but my feeling was that individual erotic scenes between Lachlan & Julia were thrown in the story line when a meaningful action adventure scene wasn't going anywhere, for whatever reason. Mythical example might be that Lachlan and Julia were being pursued by opposition with a total gun battle scene resulting. They are cornered. Sex scene. Lachlan's clan comes in as calvary. Sex scene. Lachlan gets his crew together to plan a counter attack. Sex scene. I love sex scenes in stories and the more the merrier but when the sex overshadows the actual story it's counterproductive as I will and did fast forward through those scenes in the later portions. Other issue I want to mention is story line details and follow through. One non-spoiler example was an early scene that indicated Julia would be getting a black eye after which this dropped off being noticed or mentioned even though her security detail, hired by her father, should have noticed which would have resulted in her father being informed as he was quite the helicopter parent. There are other examples but would step into spoiler territory. Lastly, Julia herself. She's featured as a CIA analyst but that fact, being a CIA analyst, was weakly supported. Could have been an accountant, banker, lawyer, IT specialist, whatever. Her career had really no effect or bearing on the story resulting in my thought that her initial role and follow through was only important due to who she knew.

I am a big fan (if you haven't picked up on that already) of this author and series but have to honest when necessary. Though not a better story in the series, it still was appreciated, especially with the end teaser indicating the possibility (I'm guessing here) that a new European Raphael type character might be introduced in the next installment. If that's the fact I'm totally excited as Raphael has enough territory and alliances and it's time for a parallel type character to step up. Fingers crossed and stalking commencing as I wait for this next book in series.

In this latest novel by D.B. Reynolds, she delights her readers with a fast-paced, primal story of merciless clans and the all-consuming need for dominance and revenge. LACHLAN is magnificent; imposing in stature and a mesmerising vision as he wields a strength that is both lethal and captivating in its power, and let’s not forget his heart-stopping Scottish Brogue!

After years of planning his ultimate conquest of the current Scottish Vampire Lord, Lachlan and Julia are thrown together on a mutual quest for justice and revenge. And while each has a different reason for their single-minded goal, there is no denying the depth of attraction and chemistry that develops throughout this engrossing tale bursting with equal amounts of danger, suspense and explosive passion.

LACHALN….. is a well-balance story, with a marvellous plot, insightful world building, and the added bonus of some quality time spent with formidable Raphael....there is no mistaking that Ms Reynolds has returned to her absolute best with this latest instalment. When I finally reached the end I was reluctant to turn the final page; so now I wait for what comes next.

These books have gone from mostly UF with a strong romance to erotic PNR with the non-sex part of the story flimsy at best. As much as I enjoyed the earlier books in the series, especially the Raphael/Cyn ones, this was a disappointment.

On the positive side, I found Lachlan and Julia to be more engaging leads than Quinn and whoever the heroine was from the previous book. There seemed to be more of a connection than just hot sex and they didn’t actually get together until midway through the book. However, after that point the bulk of the story was of their sexual encounters with small tidbits of the overarching plot about confronting Erskine, the current lord of Scotland, thrown in. Honestly, though the sex scenes were well-written, they became too much of a good thing and I started skimming some of them.

These stories still are a fun diversion, but I can’t help but compare them to the earlier stories and feel a bit let down. I’ll continue to look for new books in the series, but they won’t jump to the top of my TBR list.

5 Star Scottish Vampire
Lachlan McRae is driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved and the time has come to hunt down and kill the vampire responsible. After her friend is murdered, Julia Harper steps out of her role as a CIA analyst and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland. Julia and Lachlan want the same thing, the Vampire Lord – Erskine Ross’s death, but Erskine has Julia and Lachlan fighting for her life and for a love that neither one of them can trust.

A powerful and breath taking, exhilarating read that has readers wondering if another evil bad guy will bite the dust. Lachlan and Julia have some serious chemistry going on but the relationship is chock full of trust issues and both of their determined mind sets that they have to take down the vampire lord of Scotland. Both of these characters are strong, very bold characters that readers can really sink their teeth too with lots of emotional turmoil plaguing their relationship and lots of explosive passion that sets readers’ senses aflame.

The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers glued to the page with lots of heart pounding suspense, adrenaline pumping excitement and thrilling danger with this story being further enhanced by the appearance of Raphael and Cyn during a tense meet and greet. A couple of potent and white-knuckle battles adds further hair raising enjoyment to this already superior read, which ensures that readers will want to read this powerful, exhilarating, and intensely satisfying romance over and over and over!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I collect this series as I can! I own more than half of the series so far!!

The cover is pretty….woah, it is hot in here!!!

This is the 13th book in this series. This is for adults only due to the vampire violence and steamy content. I do highly recommend reading the series in the order to get all the glorious details and become so wrapped up in this world that you want more!

This book is about the Vampires in Scotland! Julia is out for revenge on a vampire, and she seeks help from a friend she went to boarding school with. She did not expect to be left with Lachlan her friend’s cousin, but they are trying to work out a mutual deal to ensure a certain vampire lord’s death. This is another exciting book with tons of action, fights, romance, and even some intrigue. I couldn’t put the book down, but this is nothing new because D.B. is an amazing author who grabs your attention making it impossible to stop reading. She is one of my favorite authors! She left us with a tidbit that intrigues me and leaves me wanting that next book!

I highly recommend to all vampire romance enthusiasts because this book has everything you need and no sparkling vampires!! I can’t wait for D.B.’s next book!! Love this author!!

Lachlan: Vampires in Europe is book 13 in the Vampires in America series. While book 12 Quinn was a huge disappointment for me, Lachlan was a perfect example why I continue this series. I loved this book, from beginning to end. Although it had moments that were a little wordy and slow overall it had everything I love about this author. Lachlan is a Scottish vampire and upon waking his first night he finds his clan slaughtered, including their human woman and children. He knew the enemy but was to young and weak to fight so he waited till the time was right. Lachlan was absolutely yummy, I loved everything about him. He now proudly sits at number two as my favorite because there is only one at the top and that is Raphael and no one can ever replace him. Julia's childhood friend is killed by vampires and her path leads her to Lachlan. Julia reminded me a lot of Cyn, who also happens to have gone to school with Julia. She's sassy, strong but at no point was she TSTL. She knew when to fight and when to let Lachlan handle things and that is a trait I wish all my h's had. As always anytime Raphael shows up I'm a happy girl. Overall this one was a great addition to the series.

Not a bad read, for the most part I enjoyed it. I’ve always liked this series. Unfortunately, this book was too similar in plot to the last few books; and there were far too many sex scenes. I had hoped the ‘Vampire Wars’ arc would pull the series back into quality UF territory. Unfortunately, the series is still firmly mired in erotic PNR, and I am so over that trope.

I really loved the first few books in this series and really liked the next few but the last couple just haven't worked for me. I like romance in my books and I like a few good sex scenes but what I'm not interested in is a whole bunch of sex without a lot of plot or plot that's been done in previous books. What was once a really great Urban Fantasy series has turned into an erotic PNR series where the sex overshadows the rest of the book.

I was so looking forward to a Scottish Vampire and he was a good character. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but once Lachlan and Julia hooked up it became sex all the time. There were also some plot holes and it was a bit of a repeat of the last book. Strong vampire plans to take out the current Vampire Lord who is a "bad lord" but needs Raphael's okay (Um, why? It's Scotland not North America). So he's a strong vampire but of course not as strong as Raphael, meets a woman who he is insanely attracted to, has a ton of sex and falls in love very quickly. There is the obligatory scene to defeat the current vampire lord.

I miss the writing style of the earlier books. Give me a great plot with a few sex scenes - I think I might just have to bow out of this series.

A copy of this book was provided to me by Netgalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

The latest in D.B. Reynold’s Vampires in America series is a tale about smoldering highlander vampire Lachlan McRae who is set on avenging the murder of his loved ones.

When Lachlan awoke from his transformation to Vampire, it was to the death and destruction of everyone he held dear. He swore to his two surviving cousins they’d rebuild their clan and kill the man responsible for such a cowardly act. It took one hundred and fifty years, but the McRae clan is now strong and ready to take on Erskine Ross, the treacherous Vampire Lord of Scotland.

When Julia Harper receives an urgent call from her best friend and subsequently hears him being murdered after he reveals his findings about the illegal dealings of a vampire named Erskine Ross, she sets out to seek revenge and soon finds out she’s not the only one after him and the joining forces with Lachlan would prove beneficial for both of them, but can they trust each other with their lives and more importantly, their hearts?

Even though this is book #13 in the series, D.B. Reynolds expertly pens unique stories for each of the couples in her books. Lachlan is filled with steamy passages that crackle and scorch, highlighted by palpable suspense and danger.

This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from ImaJinn Books in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Lachlan is the most recent addition in the Vampires in America series. We have had a blast seeing the vampires become united in the United States and Canada. Now we have seen a story set in Ireland and so what is up NEXT??? Well, one of my favorite countries in the world---SCOTLAND!! When I saw an opportunity to read and review this book, I just had to grab it up. I have soaked up this series like a sponge and I just can't get enough of this series. I didn't even read the blurb before picking up this book, that is how much I knew that I would like this book and YEP I had such a fun time with this latest addition and really love seeing the growth in this series so far.

Our story begins with our hero, Lachlan Macrae, where we see him in the beginning when he was born a vampire and he lost most of the members of his clan by a vampire who rose to power and the vampire that now controls all of Scotland's vampires. Lachlan knew that he wasn't powerful enough to defeat him at the time, but Lachlan has spent years gathering strength to take down his nemesis. But then he runs into a woman who wants revenge just as much as he does. Julia Harper may have been born with wealth and money, but she has devoted herself to working for the CIA. But when her closest friend is murdered, she is determined to hunt down the man responsible which leads her to a partnership with Lachlan, a powerful vampire who apparently she has the hots for....NOT a good combination. Their journey is one full of danger, mystery, and hot passion.

Lachlan was a fantastic addition to this edgy series that D.B. Reynolds has written and for any vampire romance lovers out there, this is definitely a series for you to try out. I have so much love for these books...great alpha males and their women partners who are their match in every way. Not only have these books delivered in well-written stories, but through out the growth of the series we have seen the development of the world building with each book and I am loving seeing the series take on some new countries and settings. I really felt like she handled the Scottish setting so well and boy I need a LACHLAN of my own because dang he is delicious enough to eat. What I really loved the most about it is how much he respects our heroine. I love the way he supports her even when it puts her life in danger. You see that he wants to protect her so much but at the same time he knows that she has her own strengths and capabilities and her own need for vengeance. Love seeing them work together and find their own path. Their journey isn't an easy one though and boy they definitely will put you through the wringer with plenty of laughs along the way too.
She’d waited until she was dating a vampire to do the whole cuddle routine. And dating? Was that what they were doing? Not much dating going on so far. It was more of a business agreement with benefits. Although it felt like more, damn it.

We also get to see a unique side to Raphael and Cyn. We only get a small scene with these two, but boy I swear they are one of my favorite couples and they really have such strength even after all this time. And Yes the way that Raphael treats Lachlan is pretty hilarious....all the manly posturing is pretty hilarious.

We see great strength and growth from our couple....both individually and especially in their relationship. As they begin their journey to revenge against their enemy, their relationship takes new heights. I do want to mention that this book does bring two kick-ass characters together so you just know that sparks are going to fly in this one. This is probably more of a slow burn but NOT slow lust. There is definitely sexual tension to the highest degree, but the emotional intimacy takes quite a bit longer to build. It does make sense for their relationship since they both view it as temporary and don't let their emotions get too involves but eventually it builds into something stronger for both of them.

Overall I found Lachlan is a stunning display of adventure in the Scottish land, packed with kick ass laughter, stunning thrills and guaranteed to give you all the tingles!!! SEXUAL TENSION PACKED GEM!!

This book was disappointing. 2 stars
This series is losing its appeal. The last book I thoroughly enjoyed was Deception. I don’t find the more Recent books anything but average at best. I’m hoping the vampire starting the “European revolution” makes for an entertaining read. Otherwise I may need to call it quits.

I delayed reading it because Lachlan, the protagonist, is Scotish and, I'm sorry, but I don't like the way they speak, their brogue and it's so hard to read it. It's a pet peeve of mine... But Lachlan spoke normal English, except for the occasional funny moment with his cousins.

Lachlan is a naughty vampire and Julia is such a proper human CIA agent, with her blouses, tight skirt and high heels - which Lachlan appreciates, a lot. They are different from each other but they are so well together. I enjoyed the plot about Erskine, the villain vampire and that unexpected twist at the end was so thrilling, .

The last couple of books, before this, were a bit disappointing in comparison with the rest of the installments in the series and with this one I can see that we are back on track and it feels good.

Lachlan McRae woke on his first night as a vampire to seeing almost all his clan – human, vampires, women and children slaughtered, he and his two men having served only because their chamber had not been discovered. Lachlan has spent 150 years building his clan back up and gaining power in order to kill the cowardly Vampire Lord of Scotland - Erskine Ross. He finds an unexpected ally in human Julia Harper, who has her own reasons to wish Erskine dead. What neither expect is Erskine’s unrelenting attempts to capture Julia.

I enjoyed seeing Vampire Lord Raphael and his mate kickass Cyn again, despite their time in this book being short.

This was an entertaining read. I enjoyed the main characters and their interactions. I particularly liked the fact Julia was no damsel in distress. I will say this the plot is very similar to what has come before, so to truly enjoy the read, start this book when memories of the books that came prior to it are difficult to conjure.

Another very enjoyable read in the series, whilst some events from previous books are mentioned here, and characters from the early books pop up this can be read comfortably as a standalone. An addition to my kindle that won’t be forgotten or deleted.

Julia and Lachlan both want to see Erskine dead because he's behind the murders of people close to them and they want revenge. Lachlan wants revenge because so many of his people were killed and he's waited a long time to get revenge. Julia wants revenge because a close friend was killed and she wants revenge for it. Lachlan asks Julia to reach out to her friend who is married to a powerful vampire so they can talk about Erskine. Lachlan is ready to meet with Raphael by himself when Julia is almost kidnapped and they figured Erskine was behind the attempt. So instead of doing things separately, they stay together so Lachlan can keep her safe while they look into Erskine.

They do a lot of traveling back and forth to meet with Raphael and then to his home in Scotland and the first half of the book was quite dull with all of this traveling going on. I really didn't care for Lachlan all that much because his personality is so flat. Even when he was trying to seduce Julia while they were traveling, I just found his personality missing some spark because he's so dull and boring. Julia has a bit of a personality but we don't really see it until towards the end of the book when things finally start to get exciting. Lachlan plans on becoming Lord of Scotland and in order to do that he has to be the one to kill Erskine to show the other vampires that he's the stronger vampire and a good leader.

They fight their attraction for pretty much the first half of the book but even when they do finally fall for each other and end up in bed...it wasn't very exciting. I didn't really feel a connection between these two for most of the book because even though they become lover's, their personalities have no real spark and fall flat. This book is categorized as a Romance , Sci Fi & Fantasy book but the romance took a back seat to their revenge and their trying to kill Erskine. I found this book more dark and gruesome than romance.

Lachlan knows that when Erskine finds out he's close, he'll come after them. Julia is a human and stands no chance against a vampire so having her there was just idiotic. But he made plans with Julia and told her that she could be included in his plans to kill Erskine if she helped him and she held up her end of the bargain so he has no choice but to hold up his, even though it could very well get her killed.

I read pretty fast but this book took me 4 days to finish because I kept getting bored and putting the book down but kept hoping it would pick up at some point. This book starts out slow and only picks up towards the end of the book. If you're already a fan of this series, you might like this book but I can't recommend it.

Disclosure: I was given this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review but all opinions are my own.

Lachlan: Vampires in Europe (Vampires in America Book 13) by D.B. Reynolds
This is a story where humans know vampires live among them. Lachlan McRae is a powerful vampire with a score to settle with the cowardly Erskine Lord of Scotland who killed the McRae clan as they helplessly slept. All but Lachlan and two others of the clan survived because they were new vampires locked away in a separate room for their first night.
Julia Harper is beautiful, smart, and a CIA analysis but, after her best friend is murdered by vampires, she’s on the hunt to find out why and by who.
Julia is contacted and meets up with an old schoolmate where she then introduced to her friend’s sexy and gorgeous vampire cousin Lachlan. Both Julia and Lachlan have something the other needs in their own plan of retribution for Erskine the Lord of Scotland. Their undeniable attraction towards each other is an added bonus until someone is trying to kill Julia.
This cleverly plotted storyline is exciting, sassy, and witty, with great attention to detail and character development. It’s fast pace in a rough and tough world where the strong and powerful rule and survive.
The writing gave the story an effortless life and flow that held my attention with it’s danger, intrigue, and a scorching red hot romance that caught the pages on fire! The romance is steamy and raw matching the characters well. I gave this book 4.5 Stars only because in my opinion the full on sex scenes were great but became excessive in number. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and definitely not the last.
Happy Reading♥️

Content Note: Adult Rated, Strong Language. Strong explicit sex scene descriptions and words.

I absolutely adore this series. Perfect blend of steamy steamy and gorey action.

Some forward progression in the overall story arc of new, stronger master vampires taking control. This one focuses on Julia & Lachlan. While they meet in London, Lachlan is determined to get revenge and control of Scotland. Julia is also set on revenge against the current master vamp of Scotland.

There's a few coincidences that seemed forced/unnecessary, but this is still a great story.

Aaaaand she is BACK!!! After a disappointing outting with Quinn in Ireland...DB Reynolds is back in stride with Lachlan. The story has the same feel and flow as we expect from our ViA author. A great hero...slightly whinging but likable heroine and a great fast paced story with plenty of suspense. I totally enjoyed this read and can't wait for the next ViA/ViE outting..can't wait to see what happens in Europe and more delish Vamps! 4 stars and anxiously awaiting DBR's next story no matter which of her series;)

*Big Sigh*
I wanted this to be better than Quinn. And it was...just not by much. I didn't exactly hate these two, but as for the story itself nothing really happens. The first 50% of this book was these two meeting, lusting after each other, and going to visit Raphael. The next 20% was nothing but them having sex. And the last 30% was them having sex and sometimes Lachlan actually trying to take over as lord. There was practically no action in this one. Outside the bedroom anyway. And even that has gotten so tedious and repetitive that it's more boring than not.

What I really liked about this one was how Lachlan's clan was different than anything we have gotten so far. I thought it was cool that his people were lead by vampires and their ranks increased all the time by creating new ones. Honorable ones. It's really too bad what happens to them.

So Lachlan. He was okay. I liked that he kind of had a sense of humor. Kind of. But overall I couldn't care one way or another about him. On the first night of his rebirth as a vampire he wakes to smell of death and finds his clan being slaughtered. He vows his revenge and is determined to make his clan strong again. No matter how long it takes. A couple hundred years later, the time is now.

At the end of the last book I didn't get why he thought he should get Raphael's permission to take over Scotland. But it's explained better here. It's not that he was seeking permission, rather he wanted to makes sure that Raphael didn't have anyone already picked to take over as lord that would be competition for him. Which makes more sense.

Which is where Julia comes in. I didn't care for Julia much. Her work back story made me roll my eyes and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why she felt guilty about her friend being killed. I appreciated the times she would concede, but I just hate it when the females in this series insist on being taken to goddamn vampire battles like they actually can do a fucking thing by being there. It's so stupid.

Lachlan needs an in with Cyn and his cousin went to school with her. But she wasn't a super close friend. But the cousin is close friends with Julia who happens to be Cyn's best friend. You know, considering that in the first couple books were told how much Cyn likes working alone and doesn't have many friends....she sure does have a lot of them popping up like daisies now. Anyway. Julia has her own reasons for showing up. She was on the phone with a guy she has known since childhood when she heard him getting killed after he told her what he was up to. She knows it was a vampire that was responsible and she's going to have her revenge by killing him no matter what. Yeah, okay, sure you are.

Turns out that both Lachlan and Julia want the same vampire dead. Erskine, the current lord of Scotland. So they agree to work together. But for some reason, Erskine keeps trying to kidnap Julia. When we find out why, it is one of the most ridiculous and farfetched things I've ever heard. Okay, maybe not ever, but it was stupid just the same. Aside from those attempts, nothing really happens until the end. There's a small fight or two before the final battle. At least this time the current lord doesn't run from the fight. In the end though, it was all very anti-climatic.

Honestly I've been thinking about quitting this series. The last few books have been boring and repetitive. But the epilogue in this one has me super curious about this new guy. So I'll probably continue on.

Oh, Wow! Amazing Lachlan! I was just going to check out a couple of pages on the release date. Surprise! Couldn't put it down! Julia was totally captivating. She was smart, filthy rich, and kick ass too! Another great point? The Cover Alone was so worth the cost of this book.

I loved how Lachlan's story began. Totally loved the fact that there was practically no flashback for Lachlan. Loved that Julia had just a little back story between her and her best friend Masoud.

Honestly? For us, the VIA's die hard fans, the Five-Star moments happened whenever Raphael (okay, his Cyn too) showed up! This was a short but amazing installment!
