Will this Queen with mind-control powers incite good or evil?
Fumi Nishioka lives with Kyutaro Horikita and his family of “Sweepers,” people who specialize in cleaning the minds of those overcome by negative energy and harmful spirits. Fumi has always displayed mysterious abilities, but will those powers be used for evil when she begins to truly awaken as a Queen?
Kyutaro and Fumi get a taste of just how formidable the Silver Sea Snake is, and so they set out to the Holy Ground of the Old Byakko Clan in order to get stronger. However, they’re in for an unwelcome surprise when they find out what this mysterious clan has in store for them!
Kyousuke Motomi (最富キョウスケ Motomi Kyōsuke) is a Japanese mangaka whose stories have frequently been published in the monthly Betsucomi magazine. She is most currently working on Dengeki Daisy.
She uses a male pseudonym and draws herself as a man, but she's actually female."If my stories can touch you, make you laugh, forget unhappy things, or even give you that 'good job' feeling, then I'll be super, super happy!" - Kyousuke Motomi
From the mangka who brought us Dengeki Daisy is a new series in the same vein. Fumi lives with Kyutaro, a boy her own age, and his family of Sweepers, people who specialize in cleaning the minds of those overcome by negative energy and harmful spirits. An orphan with a forgotten past, Fumi is on the hunt for a "prince" but as she becomes more and more the Queen, Kyutaro is the only one who can help her control awakening powers... Will she start falling for him?
Now that we've successfully gotten excited with Fumi and Kyutaro's first arc, Queen's Quality vol 6 starts us with a bang on the next leg of their story. We know a little about the clans and that there was some bad, bad events that went down and parents are dead. Our couple though have each other and they both want to get stronger... Kyousuke Motomi doesn't start us in a hurry but takes the time letting us bond with new mate Ataru... and I really appreciate that. It's always a good day to add relationships to a manga story. By the end of the volume I was super excited to see where Fumi and Kyutaro's new ghost "friends" were going to take them!
Kyutaro was really struggling this volume having gotten even closer to Fumi in vol 5 as she dealt with her dark queen. He wants to take their relationship to the next level... but is something else unduly influencing this thought? I loved getting Ataru's take on their relationship. I didn't see it the way he did and he was right to a point. Yet it didn't weaken Fumi's strength in any way, I love how feminist this stays while also travailing the male wanting to protect female path which is so true to life.
Kyutaro feels he's fallen down on his job and that becomes the tense motivation... We get a hint early in Queen's Quality vol 6 that all is not kosher with the old Byakko clan, their methods are quite underhanded. You certainly get the sense that the stakes are higher even if this is a training mission and not taking out some big bad bug. Once we meet the clan leader I was even more stoked!! By the end of the volume the stakes were super high and Kyutaro has worn you down enough with his struggles that you really worry for him. Needless-to-say I am anxious to read the next volume!
The art was stellar as we travel to a new place and get a real sense of the area. Of course, that has nothing to do with the "inside" where they will be traveling through... There is this creepy vibe that gives you the sense that this really is home to ghosts both friendly and unfriendly alike! The character designs for the new characters are really great and I really liked the new healed, but personality rich Ataru. Plus the inclusion of cats is so fun!!
I really am loving the direction Queen's Quality vol 6 takes the story of Fumi and Kyutaro and their foray into the land of her nativity and his parent's doom. It doesn't look like the training is going to be the run of the mill fighting dummies and sparring either! There are real ghosts out there and they are as strong as the bugs to clean up!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension ⋆ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

I mean I love the art and the story is good but the slow burn in this manga kinda annoys me a bit and sometimes I struggle to follow what’s happening Cos there’s so much info dump!
this series continues to be so incredible in every possible way. this cover - seriously. the artwork is absolutely stunning, and the story, which moves from dark dark dark and disturbing to outright hilarious, is a pleasure to fall into, with every single page. Motomi is a genius, and the monthly 'what's up' updates (also on twitter) are hysterical. I am truly sorry when I reach the end of every volume.
3.5 rounded up because I love Kyousuke Motomi, even when her hero is being a little bit of what my mother would call "a weenie." I know that Kyutaro has to figure out for himself that accepting and confessing his feelings for Fumi will only make him stronger, but this is getting to be a bit much.
On the other hand - "[This is] the power of a queen!" "No, just a pissed off high school girl."
Learn this lesson well, people. Hell hath no fury like a teenage girl.
"Wherever you go, you are so precious to us. Don't forget that."
WHAT WAS THAT CLIFFHANGER OF AN ENDING?!?! :o :o :o I DEMAND ANSWERS!!!
*coughs*
Moving on for the sake of this review, this was such a lovely volume! I appreciated the MUCH needed breather for me as well as letting our leads have a breather too. Granted, it's pretty short-lived but I still appreciated it nonetheless.
However, ATARU! If someone would have told me back when I was reading QQ Sweeper I would like him, I would have been upset because no, no I won't. Yet here we are in volume six and I actually REALLY like his character in this one! The Genbu Clan I feel so beautifully represents community and inviting those who have been outcasted or thrown aside to become incredible people within their clan, and in turn, help others. There is no favoritism among each other and a genuine invitation to join the clan to help others. I think it's incredible and is just another part of this series I deeply deeply love!
One thing that's been interesting with the "romance" is seeing the struggle both Kyutaro and Fumi have of wanting to touch the other. We see an occasional sensual moment of desire (though Kyutaro more often) from their point-of-view that brings an interesting and relatable element to a very sweet romance.
I'm really excited to learn more about the Byakko Clan because they have been nothing like I imagined they would be! There is obviously something deeper between this community and Fumi, even if she is unsure of why that is. (Though we do get two bombshells of information that shocked me, but in a good way!)
Going back to Ataru real fast, he is nothing like I expected! LOL!
A really really good volume that is sure to lead into an action-packed volume!
"I know it seems minor but I think the minor details are what reveal who a person is."
I truly can't get enough of Fumi and Q in this series. They have an amazing dynamic that I love to read, and their communication is great as well. I will forever be on their side of this fight, and I can't wait to see what happens in the future.
I like how the Genbu Clan used to sweep using music but moved away from everyone needing to do that when they started taking “outsiders” in; it really points to their character as a whole clan and how they care about others more than a way of doing things.
Kyutaro, Fumi, and Takaya beating up Mask Guy cracked me up, as Fumi was just fed up and ticked while Takaya was just gonna stomp the guy, lol. And again they should have let Koichi at him, haha. Later on it was nice seeing the kids sight seeing and how well Ataru fits in with Fumi and Kyutaro, not to mention it will never not be funny to me that the former bug handler is a sissy over real bugs, lol!
Not fond of Kyutaro’s borderline lustful thoughts towards Fumi, which he thankfully stops himself from thinking about, but so far this manga series is the most “steamy” without it being actually steamy (if that makes any sense) that I’ve ever read and I don’t like that but maybe it won’t push the letter too much in the future? Either way that’s why I dropped my rating by a star.
Sarara’s pretty cool, and Ataru still “cross-dressing” is an interesting choice, but, um, what the HECK is that ending?! Like what is going on?
I have some doubts about the direction the series is going, but I’m still going to keep reading!
‼️Content‼️
Language: ass; hell; darn; pissed-off; what the heck; hellish; crap
Violence: fighting giant bugs, monsters, and humans with weapons, hand to hand, and supernatural powers (PG-PG-13/R); injuries and blood (PG—PG-13/R)
Sexual: in a “spiritual” type realm a guy changes his outward appearance into that of a girl; a girl tells guys to strip naked in order to bathe (nothing’s shown); a girl thinks of her and a guy standing next to each other naked (nothing is shown beyond if she was wearing a bikini, he’s shirtless, nothing sexual is happening); a guy complains about “sexual harassment”; shirtless and naked guys in a bath (nothing’s shown)
Alcohol/Drugs: a guy smokes
Other: giant bugs mentally “infest” people; magic; supernatural powers; characters go into people’s minds and clean out bad/negative thoughts/emotions; a girl is called a curse; characters’ spirits step out of their bodies; a girl has several “queens” inside her who often “replace” her for brief periods of time and have different personalities and powers; a hypnotist spells a character into thinking they’re trapped by vines; ghosts and a “spiritual” realm
The start of a new arc! This volume is mostly filler. To be honest, I'm not digging how much infodumping there is. It's just so convoluted. No matter how many times the Byakko clan lore is explained to us, I remain utterly confused.

Today's manga post is on Queen's Quality, Vol. 6 by Kyousuke Motomi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Fumi and Kyutaro on it. As it ist the sixth in the series, you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes urban fantasy stories, slow burn romance, and shojo manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild action violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Fumi and Kyutaro. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the manga- Kyutaro and Fumi get a taste of just how formidable the Silver Sea Snake is, and so they set out to the Holy Ground of the Old Byakko Clan in order to get stronger. However, they’re in for an unwelcome surprise when they find out what this mysterious clan has in store for them!
Review- Fumi and Kyutaro are invited to come to the Byakko house in order to train. Of course, it is more than just that. The Byakko want to test Kyutaro, to see if he is a good consort for Fumi. There is some good plot movement in this volume with more about what happened when Kyutaro's parents died and maybe what happened to Fumi during that time too. Fumi continues to surprise everyone around her with personality and force. She is more than the Byakko thought and maybe more than they can handle. This continues to be a strong series with interesting characters. I look forward to reading the next volume.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Kyousuke Moroni is a wonderful author. I enjoy all of her work. I am very interested to see where this “inside” training is going to go. Kyutaro is as wonderful as always. Atari is really growing on me. Poor Fumi, everyone all around her knows more about her than she does. Is this how they are keeping the “queens” under control?
9/19 Tried but failed to get into this volume at all. Love the couple dynamic but this series has gotten too complicated for me to read the volumes so far apart, I can't recall enough of what's come before. Perhaps I'll try to binge the entire series one day, but for now I'm giving up on finishing it the slow way.
I practically need a flowchart to follow the series at this point. I read the last couple books a few days apart and I still barely have the slightest clue what’s going on any more.
Clan this, clan that, secret this, convoluted twist that. It’s gone way, way away from the initially simple and well-done premise.
The MCs are still interesting. Im most invested in the romance, the world building setup is still odd. This installment was pretty exciting though. The characters are starting to learn new things. Im pretty worried about Kyu, but I'm sure his moment of danger will probably resolve quickly in the next book.
This kicks off a new bit of the story, so there is a lot of setting the stage for what will come. It didn't feel like much happened here, but we do get introduced to several new characters and get to see reformed Ataru join in on the adventure.
I love serious angry Fumi and I surprisingly like the new member of the group. I'm not following who is part of which clan very well, but I still enjoyed the friendly interactions in this book and where the story is going. There was some uncomfortable fixation on nudity and body parts in this one.
