Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
W.I.T.C.H. is a fantastical graphic novel series written by Elisabetta Gnone, an Italian author. The novel follows the story of 5 girls who each have elemental powers, living a normal life. The series very positively portrayed female friendships with a diverse cast. Growing up, I loved these graphic novels. It was so amazing to see a group of girls with characters who looked more like me.
This was one of my favorite graphic novel series as a child. I remember biking to the library twice a week, each time getting a new volume. As the Judd Winick article said, it was my “gateway drug to reading”. The series portrays the duality of their everyday lives and their magical ones. It was an incredible getaway and a perfect place to escape into their world. All to say, this series definitely falls into the fantastical category of graphic novels. There is plenty to the world created with deep layers for how far the story goes.
A huge part of this series of graphic novels is the illustration. The thing that differentiates graphic novels from a normal text is the use of image to story tell. The illustrations in this series where exactly what drew me to them in the first place. Not only are the characters beautiful to look at, but the scenery and the art itself was/is stunning. These images definitely help children to become more engaged in the story they’re reading and allow themselves to be more emerged in the world.
Their powers may be acting up, and Cedric may still be acting mysterious, but Will is making it through with the help of her friends and Matt, who is always at her side - until he ends up sucke into a magical book that can only be opened once the girls face off against five elemental monsters! Gnone continues the adventure with pletny of tension and lore that will keep fans enthralled until the last page. How can Will focus on anything when she has no idea what has happened to Matt?!
ENG I don't know if it's because I was recovering from my bad flu, or if it's just me; but I liked these volumes a little less. I put 4* because I always like our heroines and the secondary characters. But that part of the story appealed to me a little less. On the other hand, I still love Orube as much, it's always a pleasure to meet her. I will read the rest very quickly; and then I will have to wait for the publication of the other volumes haha.
Will’s mom has a very important thing to say to her daughter, except the poor mother hardly ever sees her.. There is a rift between Taranee and Nigel, Martin may have found a girlfriend and Cedric is overwhelmed by his new humanity and his need for revenge. The latter can never act only under the orders of a malicious entity.
Endarno then gives the girls an old Heatherfield card to help them open the evil book. So, what better than puzzles and riddles to guide them throughout their epic journey. The red thread of this part takes a little time to set up but my God I love this 5th part!!
These posts on Witch are spoilers without spoilers, because even if I tell you what’s going on there (and so what I like), I don’t tell you anything either xD
Ok, so I found this book a lot better than the previous one. It didn't focus as heavily on the romance aspect of the girls lives, at least not in a drama way, and it moved the story forward. There was even some interesting character evolution going on, not to mention the art style was back on point.
My only problem, NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JUNE BEFORE I CAN READ ON?!?!?!
As far as plot goes, this one definitely had a quicker pace. I was wondering when the Kandrakar stuff would come up again. But I also love following them around in their personal lives. I'm easy to please. Five stars because I had way too much fun reading this. As usual. Also loving the added depth to Cedric's character.
I guess I'm going to set at a 3.5, there were moments here that I really liked but for the most part, this one was a bit boring.
Also, I still want someone to tell me how old these girls are. They're still getting recess at school but their boyfriends have facial hair. I have SO MANY QUESTIONS!
This was a decent volume, but honestly I feel like this series is hitting a bit of a lull, where each new arc feels like adding drama for drama's sake rather than to propel any sort of story.
