Project Learning English on my own through children's and middle-grade books. I think that character "Agatha" is obviously inspired by Agatha Christie and her cat's name (Watson) is also a Sherlock Holmes' reference. Clever tricks to present Classical Literature for children and pre-teens.

The characters: "AGATHA MYSTERY - 12 y.o., an aspiring mystery writer; has a formidable memory / DASH - Agatha's cousin and student at the private school Eye International Detective Academy / CHANDLER - Butler and former boxer with impeccable British style / WATSON - Obnoxious Siberian cat with the nose of a bloodhound / GRANDDAD IAN - Scotland's premier builder of hot-air balloons."

DESTINATION: Dunnottar Castle, Scotland. OBJECTIVE: To discover who stole the ancient broadsword that once belonged to the legendary king of Scotland Robert the Bruce.

This is a cute story that kids who want to be spies (a phase that each one of my kids went through) will appreciate. I chose this one in the series because of its location and I don't think I need to read any more of them, but I did have fun.

Review for "The King of Scotland's Sword" by Sir Steve Stevenson:

It's the third book from the "Agatha: Girl of Mystery" series written by famous author Sir Steve Stevenson. The story focuses on Agatha, her cousin Larry, her butler Chandler and their cat Watson embarking on another journey to solve a mystery. This time the destination is Scotland, the land of bagpipes, majestic castles, quilts, legends and the home of the Loch Ness Monster. In this story Agatha has to find a priceless sword whom others believe it was stolen by ghosts and has to see if the rumors about the castle being cursed is true.
Adventure, the beauty of the Highlands, courage, teamwork, history, the grand Scottish architecture, action and much more can be found in this amazing mystery story.
Mr. Stevenson can be considered the founder of detective and murder mystery novels for children through his simple style which is easy to understand. While reading each of the five volumes, the reader will also find the style of Agatha Christie (creator of the famous detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple) mixed with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the Sherlock Holmes series), spy movies and Indiana Jones from which a masterpiece was born. Not only that his novels made us readers get out of touch of reality for a little, but they invite us to take a journey around the world too.
Adventure, trips, mysteries, bravery, cleverness and intelligence, humor are only some of the things that you’ll discover in the Agatha: Girl of Mystery series. I recommend these books not only to young readers, but to adults as well.

LA ESPADA DEL REY DE ESCOCIA #3#
AUTOR: Sir Steve Stevenson
PERSONAJES: El abuelo Godfrey, Mister Kent, Watson, Agatha, y Larry.

In rest, numai de bine!

***Valoración 2.5/5 a 3/5 estrellas***

I thought this was a cute and fun detective story! I read this for my children's literature course and would recommend this to 4th-5th as well as maybe some middle schoolers. The setting was done wonderfully. The characters were lovable as well.
