Critter Catchers #6

Horror at Hideaway Cove

Rate this book
Cody and Demetrius are getting married! Along with the usual wedding details—venue, flowers, catering—they also deal with a sneaky otter and a growing guest list. The big day goes off without a hitch, and Cody whisks Demetrius away on the honeymoon he planned all on his own. When they arrive at the town of Hempstead, Cody is dismayed to discover the small town gets much of its tourism from the legend of Esther, a Loch Ness type monster rumored to live in the depths of Heaversford Lake.

At first the secluded cabin on an island in the middle of a large lake is the perfect setting for a romantic honeymoon. But then the power goes out, and after that they discover large wads of sticky, smelly plastic trash during their morning hikes. When a local resident drowns under mysterious circumstances, Demetrius and Cody realize that no matter how reluctant they might be, their experience with unusual creatures could help these town people solve the mystery of Esther once and for all. If it doesn't kill them first.

I am so in love with Cody and Demetrius! They get married and their honeymoon is interrupted by a lake monster. No matter where they go they run into a monster!!!

___________________________________________________

It’s been awhile since I read the fifth book in this series and with a new series with The Critter Catchers being released this month I figured it was time to get back to this series.

I forgot how much I love Cody & Demetrius. They always run into trouble which turns out to be a monster. They are on their honeymoon and things go wrong from the beginning. They don’t actually encounter a lot of the monster in this book but I thought it was perfect just as written.

A Joyfully Jay review.

This was an interesting and thrilling story. I had a little trouble sinking into the world, because everything moved a bit too fast at the beginning. It was a weird opening, with too many people and too many unexplained references, but once I got past that opening scene, well, I really liked it. Cody and Demmy are likeable, and their escapades are intriguing. I like how the “monsters” are all twists on well-known myths, but they usually have some twist that gives them a fresh look. The disappointment Cody felt at getting them unwittingly drawn into a monster case while on their honeymoon was palpable and realistic. No one wants a disastrous honeymoon, and these guys get a trip that’s (almost) not to be believed. In terms of the realistic elements, I liked how the horror part was firmly grounded in contemporary issues, like ecological disasters that lead to unexpected animal activity. There’s a decent amount of sexytimes, and I really liked the balance between romance and suspense.

I like these characters and I like the monster hunting but it felt like this book couldn't decide if it wanted to be a horror, monster book or a romance and both stories were a bit short changed. A bit too much on the sex and not enough on the monster for me. Demmy made some pretty selfish decisions for a guy on his honeymoon. I really liked the secondary characters in this one so the ending left me feeling sad.

4.5 star series. Be prepared to suspend reality and enjoy a low angst, mild drama, warm, charming story, sort of X-files meets X-rated Scooby Doo. We have two guys just trying to do their jobs, but stumbling into one paranormal mystery after another. They have no experience investigating, policing or using weapons, so all they have is their wits, what they have on hand and good old common sense to get out of tough situations. Excellent writing, great combination of descriptive surroundings with great dialogue.

Series of 7 books following the same couple, must be read in order as it’s a slow/burn friends to lovers story. We have a full spectrum of lovely storytelling with some pining for a straight best friend, bi-awakening, monster hunting, mild violence and gore, mild injury, small town issues, big family dynamics. This series is incredibly balanced with romance, sexiness and actual plot, very well done and left me satisfied and entertained on all fronts.

Book 8 is about another couple, same universe. I skipped it as I wasn’t too invested in the characters, whom we had met through the other books.

HEA, series, same couple, vers, m/m, best friends to lovers, monsters/urban legends, mystery.

I’ve been stressing and sweating and feeling intense emotions for five freaking books, and finally... Hank Edwards gives me all the sweet and sexy true love I can handle. Not that Demmy and Cody haven’t been absolutely adorable and head over heels in love with each other for the entire series, but good God—our boys are on their honeymoon! Confusion, fear, sexual uncertainty, coming out… they’ve been through it all. And now the Bower-Singletons are reaping the rewards of marriage.

An isolated cabin getaway on an island in the middle of a lake promises Cody and Demmy peace and quiet, nature, and plenty of time to fully enjoy sex and intimacy until they pass out drunk on love and orgasms.

You know… if they weren’t the Critter Catchers.

The lake and town are beautiful, but Cody had no idea when he booked the honeymoon that it was also famous for the local sea monster Esther. Demmy is, of course, intrigued, and Cody is, of course, annoyed. And it only gets worse when a freak storm knocks out power on the island, their romance is interrupted by mysterious bumps in the night, and a local hippie hellbent on cleaning the disgusting plastic pollution from the lake is found dead and their island is turned into a crime scene.

But marriage is about compromise, and as much as Cody is unwilling to investigate monster-anything, when push comes to shove, he’s there to back his man up because he knows no one is more qualified to deal with this mess than he and Demmy. And likewise, when Cody is feeling like crap for having booked an awful honeymoon, Demmy is there to remind him how absolutely happy and in love he is, and despite death and monsters, there’s nowhere he’d rather be than at Cody’s side.

The love and respect and commitment in this book is incredible. Demmy and Cody were made for each other and are the perfect team from beginning to end. And might I add, what a hell of an epic conclusion. Heartbreaking, for the guys and for the monster. I won’t spoil that, but yeah, I almost started crying. Edwards has put me through the wringer with these books.

I caught up with Critter Catchers just in time for the release of the final book. I am not ready to say goodbye. Not at all. But I am so thankful for the radical and wild ride Edwards has taken me on, and I’m already mentally and emotionally prepping myself for Book Seven.

Wow, I simply wasn't emotionally prepared for this one. Sweet Cody tries to find the perfect vacation spot for him and Demmy but, as the saying goes, plans start going awry as soon as they arrive at Hideaway Cove. The creature mystery unfolds a bit more slowly this time; it's really little more than a popular local folktale that gets Cody's hackles up because all he desperately wants is some creature-free time with Demmy. I love that we get to meet and spend some time with new small-town locals, most notably a lovely gay couple who immediately befriend Cody and Demmy. But what I did not expect was the absolutely bone-chilling peril and heartbreak... be prepared folks, this one is rough. I've fallen completely in love with Demmy and Cody and I'm going to be quite sad when their series ends.

Owners of pest control company Critter Catchers, Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton are taking a break to marry and honeymoon on a remote island on a lake which abounds with rumours of Esther, a Loch Ness type monster. As usual things and much to Cody’s annoyance, things don’t go to plan and they are embroiled in the strange and tragic deaths of two local residents. Things get more perilous when Demmy also disappears.

Another enjoyable episode in the Critter Catchers series, especially the introduction of a creature chaser who thinks nothing of imposing on our boys during their honeymoon. As usual, this is light on creature and heavy on the romance—understandable as this covers the wedding and honeymoon dynamics. Although this has a few very serious moments, I like this series because it’s light and easy to consume. 🎧 US voice actor Zachary Zaba gives another light and breezy performance.

The sixth book in the Critter Catchers series open with Demetrius and Cody planning their wedding. Demetrius is doing most of the planning and Cody is feeling a bit guilty so he offers to plan the honeymoon. Cody is determined to plan the perfect honeymoon for Demetrius and he figures an island all to themselves fits the bill. Plus, Cody thinks there is no chance of one of their “special” cases popping up. Of course he is wrong. On the way to the resort they see tee shirts advertising lake monster Esther. There is some tension between the two about Demmy’s willingness to get involved in supernatural cases. Cody plans on keeping Demetrius too busy to worry about Esther. Unfortunately, that proves to be impossible. This book feels a bit darker than the previous books but there is still humor between the two men and they are in a good place at the end of the adventure. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries with an ongoing mm romance.

Cody and Demmy are getting married, yes please!!! I feel like I've been through it all with these guys as they navigated through some rough waters to get here. But they're here, they got married and now they're on their honeymoon, and so utterly in love it's almost too much for me to handle. Even though they're always adorable and cute together, there is just something about it being their honeymoon that made this an epic love fest of sweet romantic moments, and a lot of sexy times. They're smack bang in middle of newlywed bliss, but as fate would have it, another monster case gets thrown their way. Demmy may be a little intrigued to investigate, but Cody is most definitely not. Doesn't matter though... they can work through anything as long as they're together, and boy did this book prove that.

I've enjoyed this whole series so far and Demmy and Cody have come so far. I really enjoyed Book 6 because both men have matured so much since the first book and gotten settled in their relationship. They finally tie the knot in Book 6 and depart for their honeymoon in Hideaway Cove. There's plenty of heat during their honeymoon period and they find themselves in a small town in Hideaway Cove that boasts the local monster, Esther, which is similar to Nessie the Loch Ness Monster. This was a little sadder than most of the other books because Demmy and Cody strike up a friendship with a local townsman before tragedy strikes. This monster and its killing were fueled by human error and neglect. The ending hints at the next mystery in the last and final book and I can't wait to read it :)

Monsters in your honeymoon? Well, if you are Demetrius and Cody, of course you'll have them *laughs*

It's never more evident than here how sick and tired Cody is of having to dealt with monsters, and how curious and willing to go looking for more information is Demetrius. Cody is dissapointed at having his honeymoon crashed by Esther, to say the least and not very fond of the idea of going after her after a body shows up on the island. But I liked how realistic the conflict felt. Demetrius almost going at Cody's back, but then confessing it and being surprised by Cody's understanding.

And how the monster is linked to ecological issues was a brilliant point.

So, yeah, another entertaining story :)

Listening to Horror At Hideaway Cove was a rollercoaster of emotions. We have a wedding that goes off (surprisingly) without a hitch, we have a (seemingly) private honeymoon vacation spot in a cute little town .... and then the power goes out and all hell breaks loose. There is a strong environmental theme that weaves throughout the story and plays a huge part in saving our guys at the end. The impact and cost, though, is one of the most heartbreaking parts of the series. I was not prepared for the audio version. Cody and Demmy's romance is a shining light, so of course there are plenty of hijinks to be had. I have no idea what to expect from book 7, the finale (or is it 😜 ) ... and am excited to press play!

This is the sixth book in The Critter Catchers Series. This book in an improvement from the fifth book of the series. But it felt like thee were 2 plots that fought each other. With neither winning in the end. These books have some great ideas but the way that they are written lacks a completed flow. I did find the story and characters likeable though. The characters were developed and thought out. The relationship is finally fleshed out in this book (even though there was a lot more sex in this book). Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton are the MC’s of this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Horror at Hideaway Cove is the sixth book in the Critter Catchers series by Hank Edwards. Oh my GOD! Cody and Demmy are getting MARRIED!!!!!! I love them so hard! And what is more Cody/Demmy than a big hole's mystery to figure out while on their honeymoon!

Fun, hilarious, suspenseful and mysterious.. with just a taste of angst. A perfectly wonderful addition to Cody and Demmy's saga. I loved it all!

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Book after book I became a fan of Hank Edwards and his plot development skills, because even in a book with a wedding and a honeymoon in the inside, you got an action-packed storyline that kept you on edge every single moment. With danger everywhere, romance, hot scenes and amazingly heartbreaking situations that made me cried and put my reading off during some intense emotional moments in the trama, this is one of the best written books in the series!!! So wonderful!!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Loved it!!!

Omg I kind of hate you right now Hank Edwards. You gave us what we have been waiting on but also broke our hearts. And then you leave us wondering about someone who has been there from the start of the series!! Okay I don’t really hate you but I’m definitely tapping my foot and shaking my finger at you. That’s exactly how it should be when the story is this good. I am so glad I got an arc and now I need to read the next one. Plus start stalking you hard to find out what else your devious mind can come up with.

As a novel in it's own right, I don't know that this holds together. There is an overabundance of sex and a dearth of horror and the main characters have very little impact of the outcome of the horror plotline.

At the same time, as the 6'th book in the series, it was great. The wedding was genuinely affecting and it was great to see the characters together. At he same time, Cody got to see a bit of the downside of living as a gay man in the wider world and how the monster stuff could strain their marriage.

I love this series and can't wait to read the next one.

The sixth book in the series, I was really looking forward to reading it and overall I'm really enjoying it.

Cody and Demmy's honeymoon turns into another paranormal animal case. In this one it is the Loch Ness monster or the author's version. The funny thing about this book is that a couple appears, that if it wasn't for the end of one of them I would have liked to have continued with the series, because it had potential.

I have seen that there is a trilogy starring the same characters.

Cody and Demy get married! They go on their honeymoon to a cabin on an island. Only they could find a monster to hunt on their honeymoon. Odd things are found on the island and Demy loves a mystery and this is making Cody a bit grumpy since they supposed to be on their honeymoon. Things take a turn when they have to help pull up a dead body from the lake. When a second body turns up dead, they start to worry they will be the main suspects. Unfortunately, Demy takes the brunt of the monster’s wrath. Not quite the honeymoon they were expecting! Love this series!

Demmy and Cody’s wedding day went quite well. Their wedding night was everything they expected it to be. The honeymoon from hell may take a long time to recover from.

These are great characters. I liked that they got their wedding day. They are just right for each other. Together they almost make an adult man. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. However, honeymoon interruptes is a very bad thing.

A nice story about a really sad monster.

I received an arc of this book.

Cody and Demmy have gotten married and head off to a happy honeymoon. What could possibley go wrong?
These two together are everything! They are so in love with each other. Whatever danger awaits them can't stand up to what these two have found with each other. I loved this installment of the Critter Catchers series. While there is intrigue and of course critters, there is also so much joy and love to be found with these guys! So far my favorite!

Each book in this series has been better than the last, but this one was just wow. The storyline was just amazing and written as I expected it to be. ..full of action, full of emotion, full of danger and intrigue, and also romance. This was the best one yet.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This was another amazing story in this series.

It was great to see yet another aspect of their relationship and see the wedding.

Their honeymoon was hot and emotional.

And the case was another strange and wonderful story. I love how the author doesn't use the usual trope of monster stories, especially with the endings.

Great story

Love Critter Catchers!

Hank Edwards really did an amazing job of writing this series and the continuing adventures and relationship between Cody and Demetrius. Unfortunately the new husbands can’t get a break when it comes to monsters! LOL. This series is amazing and highly recommended

My favorite of the series so far. This was filled with lots of action, suspense and adventure. Nothing is ever easy for Demmy and Cody, not even their honeymoon. It seems like they are doomed to be monster hunters whether or not they want to.

When Cody was planning their honeymoon I had a feeling that something would go wrong. To say a lot more would probably give too much away. I can say that the romance and smexy time heat up a lot in this book. I'm moving right on to the next book!

Cody and Demi have a special wedding and head off for the honeymoon. Of course it’s them so things start going wrong from the start. Strange things are happening. There is a fight between ignoring or investigating. But sometimes you can’t let things be. I loved seeing their relationship deepen. #CMCon26
