OK, so my daughter is like BIG time into horses and for a stretch was obsessed with Canterwood and this series of books by Jessica Burkhart. I, being the anglophone father of a bi-cultural kid, tried to read this in English to her. Tried? well, I read it to her, but honestly, it was a painful experience. First off, the blatant commercialism of this writer is obnoxious - it was like reading a Sephora catalog and a Gap catalog the whole time. The other super annoying feature is that these girls are supposed to be like 11 or 12 years old, but they are living like 15 or 16 year olds. Now, I have lived outside the US for over 2 decades and it is possible that American culture is 5-10 years advanced than French culture, but I have a hard time believing that these little girls are as mature as they are portrayed. Even my daughter eventually got fed up with the superficiality of the plots and the inane characters in these books. My advice? Stick to Nancy Drew!

I LOVE SASHA!

Okay, so this is Sashas final book, but basically she and Charm have there ups and downs with compertions through out the book. She and Callie discover that they will bnever be friends again, Eric and Sasha decided that they can be friends and dont have to be so akward around each other. Her boyfriend gets over his fear of horses and the campus threat is dead and gone. :) Life is good for Sasha as she heads off for the WEG. :)

*some spoilers*
I have been following Canterwood Crest since the beginning. At first I really enjoyed it, but then it became unrealistic and melodramatic. I get its supposed to be set at an elite boarding school and that these girls parents just flow money, but it was hard to relate. I also became frustrated when the main character made decisions that made absolutely no sense. Sasha seems to destroy most of her relationships and yet in the end she ends up with the perfect life. Hot boyfriend, dream BFF, perfect horse, queen of the campus likes her, blah blah blah. And the so called scary new girl is really Sasha's biggest fan. Although I have to say the series ended the way I expected. Sashas story wrapped up nicely, and I can't say I'll miss her. And thankfully it didnt leave any dramatic cliffhangers. I'm not sure that I will read the next series. The books were pretty good in the beginnning. Its sad to say the last ones weren't.

Sasha has horribly bad imposter syndrome and I did feel transported back to middle school. Also the horse scenes in these books are just so badly done, it feels like the author has no clue what happens when you ride a horse and did not try to find out. The girls do eventing (?? kinda??) but their horse shows consist of one portion of eventing, often sometimes just XC which is odd but whatever.

When I was younger, I thought maybe a lot of the horse stuff didn’t make sense because I was young and not experienced enough to know what they were talking about. Nope. Adult me is just as confused (if you’re actually going to mention the letters in a dressage test, maybe it should make sense????)

Regardless, I love silly little drama and enjoyed how fast I was able to read these (makes me feel like I can actually read fast (I can’t))

No!! The last book. Well OK, I still got one of those extra books, but there will be no more Canterwood Crest after this one. :( No more Sasha, no more Jacob, no more Lauren! I will really miss everyone. I will miss the drama, the silly discussions, the romance, the horses, well everything!

This last book gives us a bit more drama with a mysterious blogger, 4 people about to get expelled if one of them doesn’t fess up, a big horse event coming up, and oh so much more. The Sasha books really end with a bang! And I loved the ending and how it sew together the Lauren and Sasha books into one series. We saw that scene from Lauren’s perspective, but now also from Sasha’s and I just was so happy to see it happen. Just like there were some events that happened that also happened in the Lauren books (Mr. Connor getting hurt for instance).

The whole blogger thing? I just had 2 suspects, one was a definite: It must be this person! and the other was more: Mmm, it could also be this person. Julia and Brit. I won’t spoil if it was any of those girls, but I will say that both of these girls had something, something that made me doubt them. Julia because of her whole attitude in the last few books, her reaction to stuff. Brit because I was just waiting for that hidden secret, you never know after all. Maybe she isn’t such a good person after all.
I was really dying to know who did it though, I even considered reading on at night, but decided against it because I was dead tired after a stressful week. I also considered just peeking at the end, but decided that wouldn’t do.
Of course, the whodunnit wasn’t told until the last few chapters. Arghhh!

Then there is triple romance, well maybe more, but the focus was on those 6 people. Brit/Andy, Troy/Heather and of course our one couple: Jacob/Sasha!
I was delighted with all the romance and all the cuteness that happened.
Though again, like I said in most of the reviews for this series, I don’t believe one little bit that these characters are 12/13 (or even younger). Sorry, no. Really, no. The way they talked about each other, the way they missed each other. All kinds of smooshy lines that I see much more in 16+ aged characters than those that are still so young. Maybe I miss something, but I do remember when I was 12 that I had almost no interest in boys, and the same was the truth for many girls in my class. Sure, boys were interesting, but a true love interest? Undying love? Kissing the way these characters do? Boys making up all kinds of romantic dates? Um. Nope. That wasn’t happening. So yeah. I will stick to what I think and what I kept in mind: These characters are 15 to 17 years old.
Or maybe I am just old-fashioned + everyone around me was weird back in that time and acting like this is totally normal if you are 11/12/13.

Not to mention all the other stuff. They were really mature, really adult-ish. The way they did various stuff. Their homework? Other stuff? Nope. Not even to mention the whole make-up tutorials we got as the girls went to a party. The way they put make-up on? Like a professional? I don’t believe one bit that ALL the girls there can just wear make-up at that age, and even know how to apply it so professionally.

But all in all, it was a good book + series, and I truly enjoyed it to bits. It was a great boarding school series, and one I would recommend to everyone. Even characters that I didn’t like (Heather, Alison, Julia) became characters (well with the exception of Julia) that I loved. That doesn’t happen often, but Heather really showed another side. We learned more about her background and found out why she is like this. It is amazing, and I will dearly miss all the characters.

So I guess this is it. Well, I still got a special/bonus book, so I will probably write a review for that, but as for the main series? I am guessing it is over now. :( Thanks Jessica Burkhart for writing such an engaging series.

I love this series. I really do. I started it a while back and only read up to about 7. The library didn't get any of the new books until maybe this winter? Not really sure. I've been slowly picking up one or two here and there to make them last. Because they're my fun, guilty pleasure! Why? Because I love them and they are so easy to read without having to think about plot and etc. It's just fun!

So after a bunch of drama where Sasha got kissed by her best friend's boyfriend on her birthday and then ending up lying when his girlfriend and her boyfriend (Sasha's that is) found them, things are finally clearing up. Her now ex-boyfriend, Ben, and her are friends again. She's now dating Jacob, the guy who kissed her. And Callie? Things aren't going anywhere with them really. And now her old roommate is in the "avoid" list as well. She told Callie about Sasha's lie, that she had kissed Jacob and not the other way around (which was how it really was).

Now in her new room with her new roommate (fellow small town girl and YENT rider, Brit) Sasha is pretty happy. Things are finally working out! She's getting along great with Heather, the sort of mean girl at school. She's the most popular too, she and Sasha used to fight terribly. But they've become friends now. The YENT team (an elite riding group with special, advanced lessons) is made up of Heather, Sasha, Brit, and now Callie. Which isn't awkward at all!

So far things have been going okay, they all now that they need to work together for the good of the team. But still. There's a nasty gossip blog that keeps attacking people, the headmistress has tracked it to Sasha and Brit's room and Heather room with her two friends, Julia and Alison. So they know it has to be one of them, right? But how? Whoever it is, they're going to be expelled when they're discovered!

Pros:This book was exciting! There was an accident, the blogger getting caught, another new girl popping up at Canterwood that had Sasha worried...but come on she can handle it! I really like Sasha and the others. I mean yeah it's dramatic and middle school-y but there are good morals and fun times hidden amongst the drama. And it's really a lovely mix of all things girly, boarding school, and horses. That's the reason I started the series in the first place, the horses! And they're a lovely addition to the books.

Cons:The characters don't seem to fit the age they've been assigned. They're supposed to be 12-13 and they seem more like 14-15. And still, I don't think 15 year olds should be dating. Just saying, personal opinion. I love the books and the characters, they just seem older in my head than 12!

Content:Minor cuss words like suck or crap...possibly! I'm not sure, I think I remember a suck or two. But really, this is a clean book. There's the gossip blog, some drama, and maybe one or two brief kisses.

Overall, this book is so sweet and fun and I loved it. I really do!! This series just makes me happy and a little silly. But while it's fun, it is serious at the same time and when it needs to be. It's a great, clean series :) I would recommend to teen and tween girls who like horses and a little fun drama :)

Well, that wasn't very good at all. At least this one had somewhat of a resolution. The writing is really childish, the drama is WAY over-exaggerated, and sometimes I just wanted to slap the main character--Sasha. You're in EIGHTH GRADE, for crying out loud! It's OKAY to be single! It's actually pretty unhealthy for you to be so ENTIRELY DEPENDENT on a guy so early! Gosh! At least they're over for the time being...

This series is fantastic! The characters are rather dramatic and it seems like they try to act older (they are 13 and have boyfriends and wear makeup) but it was a very funny series! It could have been wrapped up a little better in the end (with Paige and Callie, and Eric too) but not a total cliff hanger or anything. :) 5 stars!!

This Was A Great Book. i have been reading this series for a while. it is about girls who go horseback riding at boarding school. in this book there was a girl who would blog about other peoples lives because she was mad that she lost a competition. at the end of the book they reveal who was the blogger and the blogger gets susspended. also, the main character Sasha moves in with the new girl named brie because she got in a fight with her old best friend named paige. paige did something really mean that ended their friendship. one of the lessons that can be learned is Dont take things for granted because the blogger did and she wound up getting susspended from the school. at the very end of the book this girl named lauren towers comes to school and she new sasha from her old school. in the next book the author Jessica burkhart changed the narrator from sasha to Lauren and sasha isnt in the next book.

Sasha, omg she's so dumb. Why did she run like that when Lauren arrived? Every time you think she's maturing she does some dumb shii. I still haven't forgiven Paige and Callie, she's just a hypocrite.

The YENT team is set and even though it’s a bit awkward for Callie and Sasha to be on the same team again, they’re making it work. Things are going great for Sasha and Jacob. The drama is settling a little with Paige and Callie. Heather’s uptight mother is coming to town to throw a blow out 13th birthday party for her daughter, which she doesn’t want, but her best friends have a surprise up their sleeve. However there’s a nasty gossip blogger out there stirring up trouble and if they aren’t caught four girls will be expelled.

There was a lot packed into this book. But I really liked the storyline with Mr. Connor’s accident. There haven’t really been any major mishaps surrounding the horses, so in a way it was nice to be reminded that these are big animals who can easily harm their rider without meaning to. The party Heather’s mom throws seems like a little bit overkill, but I adore how the girls band together to give her the party she actually wants. I am happy that I was correct on which girl I suspected most about being the blogger, though it felt a little abrupt the way she was found. The one thing that bugged me is that after chapt 2 it’s like the girls completely forgot all of them would be expelled if the blogger wasn’t found until it came up again at the end of the book. Overall I feel like this book, especially the end, was a nice wrap up to Sasha’s arc.

I read this as it was recommended to me. The author has definitely got her horse knowledge down, but seriously!? Where do I start? Way too unrealistic. the whole series is. Since when were there boarding schools dedicated to training kids to be olympic riders? Not likely. And especially since these are all eighth grade girls. Even the drama is unrealistic. In the first book, Heather and her friends were constantly trying to put down Sasha by constantly pulling pranks that wouldn't work in real life. In "Unfriendly Competition", they're her best friends. How does this even work? Plus, all these girls are MEGA rich. I can't relate. I'm sorry, but PB teen everything and sephora makeup OVERLOAD for a 12 year old kid and dressing up like a 16 year old... so I can't feel like Sasha is my friend at all. And next, popularity. Since when were we all the most popular girls? It just makes me annoyed. The author tries to make it seem like the girls are having a hard time because there's a bunch of catty girls lingering around. Also, it's not that bad being a single 12 year old! Sasha grows up too fast, and the girls in the books are actually kinda young. She already has a perfect boyfriend! Lastly, I predicted the ending from the first chapter. there was really only one person who was likely to created to the gossip blog. What happened to the plot? There wasn't really one. It was mainly just Sasha's perfect life.

I rate it two stars because... idk i sort of enjoyed it in a hatey way lol :\ some parts were good and some were just plain boring and I skipped about two parts to get to the good ones. So in conclusion, I didn't enjoy this series. It could have been made better if it was more of a normal high-school life story, minus the rich girls and excessive drama. So two stars from me.

Unfriendly Competition is Jessica Burkhart's #12 book in the series. In this book Sasha is living at a boarding school called Canterwood Crest. During school one day her group of friends and her were called to the office and told that one of the girls had been postings mean things about people as anonymous on a blog, and that if whoever it was didn't confess all of the group of girls would be expelled. During all of that drama Heather's birthday party was being planned. Sasha had the perfect boyfriend Jacob that helped her through everything and she also had her bestie Brit. Both of them knew it wasn't Sasha but they couldn't figure out who. Sasha is a horseback rider for the YENT so she is constantly pressure to do her best because otherwise she will be kicked of the team. towards the middle of the book right before a competition Mr.Connor (riding instructor) had a bad accident with his horse that was a big scare to the riding community. Soon after that scare it came time for Heather's birthday party which of course was amazing because her mom put it together. Towards the end a girl from back home named Lauren towers shows up at Canterwood. Sasha doesn't know what to think because she is afraid she will show her up. A couple of weeks later Sasha gets a text saying she needs to go to Heather's room so she does and what they are about to find out will change there friendships and high school experiences forever. Their world is flipped up side down.

meh.... these are getting a little hard to read. I read it in one sitting, skipping pretty much every third page. I just find the plot... dragging because I know she wants to reveal stuff in the next book. The riding description was a bit better than the last book, as an equestrian, I have a few issues with some of the riding, but I try to remember that this is at most, typically a 12 year old reader, who has no idea that you don't just 'give more rein to canter' or such. I still pick them up, even though I think the beginning of the series was much better, so there you go.

Sasha's life seems to be perfect: she and Jacob are finally getting their chance, the trio is being, well, not vicious, and rooming with Brit is turning out to be a blast.

But when the school tracks the stupid and mean gossip blog to be created in the trio or Sasha's room, life takes a tumbling turn.

After all, it's not easy to have your riding teacher get hurt, and besides, who needs hometown competition?

Sasha and her friends have to hang tight, because they might just fall over the edge.

Id have to say i if you love books with loads of drama this is the book for you. This book is about how sasha is dealing with moving out of her old dorm and into a new one with a whole new roomate, dealing with all her relationships and romances. She also has big competitions coming up which are huge to her riding career. I think that anyone who really has a passion for horses and likes drama would really enjoy this book!

I think this book is amazing, theres always something happening and the story never gets boring. I think ages middle school and up would enjoy and be able to read the book. I would recomend this book if you like books in a series. I have read almost all the books in the series and i love it and i hope you do too!

Burkhart #12
Canterwood Crest #12
Book #12 in the series sees the end of one character as the mystery of the gossip blogger is solved and the emergence of a new character as a new girl arrives a the school.
The same issues arise as in thee other books, you really fail to empathise with nearly all of the characters and they all seem like pretty horrible people.
Anyway it is an easy read, and onward we go.

the girls are growing up as riders and people. Life lessons learned and drama as usual.
nice to see how much Sasha has changed from a timid girl to a real rider and all around moral individual.
