Defending my claim to the throne will be easy, but defending my heart? That’s where everything could go wrong.
Entering the royal court of the protectors was never going to easy for someone like Evie, but at least she isn’t alone. Trex, Connor and Nix are determined to show everyone who Evie really is. Not just the heartless assassin they all believe and fear. With whispers of war, the angels going missing, and tests that are far more deadly than anyone could have predicted…who will win the throne?
The protectors aren’t the only ones that are whispering because demons don’t forget. Death is not the end…and demons will survive.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
The book was going great, and....Ummm, I mean well. Alright! The book was okayish and suddenly it took a nose dive!
At one point, nothing made sense! In one scene she allows her familiar to die, because she needs the crown (literally!) to save the world; in the next scene, she just gives unlimited access to the villain who wanted the power to destroy the world, just because! Ok. Yes, a demon threatened her boyfriend, but he is supposed to be a badass 'protector' and he would be dead anyway if the demon got unlimited power! The same logic she was using to go after her crown rather than save Star!
So, yeah! That hit the low point. Oh! And did I mention that a sacred ceremony - like making someone your knight, practically equivalent to king - was as easy as sharing blood and could easily be done without her permission. Hell! Her bond with Star (her familiar!) required more of a ritual! For that matter, if it was so easy, why did the demon (super villain) require so badly for the heroine's sister to win. He wouldn't have to pretend to be in sick, twisted love with Erica to achieve his goals. He could have let any of the sisters to win and then just pop up to share a little blood!
I was never sold on the romance or the love, didn't much care for the characters and the plot had a lot of holes! The world building was shaky at best and a lot of things remained unexplained or without foundation! For example, take the angels. Apparently, five angels nearly destroyed the world (Earth and hell both. Seperately.) but they got nothing on souls or demons! Because that makes total sense.
I hate giving up on a series when I am just one book short, but here that seems to be the only course available!

2.5 Disappointing compared to the first 2. The plot is good but the delivery is too summarised. I am not sure what the idea was for the relationships. The build up started from the first book but when they finally happened, for all of them, it felt a bit flat. It felt more expected than anything real or based on substance, which doesn't make sense because it took 3 books to get there. Maybe because we don't see any evidence, we are just told. Azi was a bit different, maybe because they had history, or because he went after her in book 2, it felt more real. There was insta-lust from the beginning but nothing more that lead to the declarations of love. May be because the book is so short there wasn't room for wooing that was not bacon based, I just don't know. Quite disappointing.
Great third book in the series. Lots of action and suspense. Very pleased that the relationship between Evie and her guys has moved forward. Looking forward to the last book.
Half angel is still something I’m coming to terms with along with Evie. Now though she knows the truth of her parentage and that she is also a rightful heir. Of course if she can win the trials against her evil half sister that is. This was another quick read but fast paced because of all the action. Her harem is pretty much solidified, but now she has to rule a kingdom and somehow stop Azi’s demon brother. I’m not sure what the dark magic will do to her either but hopefully she can learn to wield it before anyone gets hurt or worse.

What I thought was going to be filler book was somewhat an eventful one- towards the end.
I really don't have much to say.
I was highly, highly annoyed with Trex and Evie. But their final declaration of love almost felt rushed when introduced. And then following said declaration was just meh, not much.
I will say the dialogue in this book was not my favorite. The ball was introduced with Lance as a supposed date but then Trex made a big deal of taking her... but then all that was mentioned of said ball was a few sentences recapping it. Not sure why Lance was even introduced as some potential only to fall flat. In general some things fell flat. And to be honest I didn't find this installment all that interesting. Yes the plot was furthered, yes the solidity of the harem was established. But there was SOMETHING missing. I'm just not sure what it was. Perhaps... emotion. The book ended up feeling dull to me. I feel like the connection with the characters was lost and the focus was more so on... explaining things? I can't quite place it.
UGH this review is about as boring as this book felt to me. I am excited for the fourth book nonetheless. blah blah blah.
DNF at 58%. I really tried to finish this one before I finally decided that I just shouldn’t have to work this hard to read a book. I thought maybe the problem was that I stopped rereading one of my all-time favorite books (mm book Shiver) to read this as soon as it was available on Amazon and that I was I was just bothered because this wasn’t as good as that one, so I paused this one at 24% to finish that one and hopefully come back to this one with a better attitude. I came back to this one, and by 38% I just kept checking whether I was almost done yet. I decided maybe I would have a better attitude about it after I got some sleep, so I came back to it after I woke up. I still didn’t like it. I guess I’m mostly confused because I don’t imagine that the previous books were any better (though I don’t remember them bothering me this much), so I have no idea why I put this in my calendar to download as soon as it came out. Maybe putting it on my calendar raised my expectations too high. I just don’t know.
Anyway, I was turned off right from the start at the bit of dialogue we were given before chapter one. The dialogue was awkward (as in, missing contractions where people would normally include them when speaking) and didn't seem to actually serve a purpose there. It would have been better if the author had just jumped into chapter one. As I said, I stopped reading one of my favorites to read this one, and one of the reasons that book is one of my favorites is that those authors are fantastic at writing natural dialogue. I wouldn’t have enjoyed this dialogue either way, but I think the inevitable comparison there made this dialogue even more jarring than it would have been otherwise.
I really don’t like the MC, Evie. She just constantly finds ways to annoy me, and she feels like a grumpy caricature rather than a real person with an actual emotional range. Even when she confesses her feelings to her guys, I don’t really get a sense of her emotions. I think part of that problem is that this author is very into telling instead of showing, so very few of the emotions in this book are actually grounded in anything. Speaking of which, I was annoyed by the guys too. They didn’t bother me as much as Evie did, but their feelings for her didn’t seem real either. I just didn’t really see their connection. I guess they did all their bonding in the previous books and the author didn’t feel like they needed to do any more here? The guys just seem to have a lot of blind devotion and “I love everything about you.” They don’t really go into why they have feelings for Evie, except when Nix briefly mentions that she saved him from the venom—which seems like a pretty flat and tropey reason to fall in love, tbh. And, honestly, I wouldn’t need them to state why they have feelings for her if I could actually see their connection for myself. Also, Nix and Connor blended together for a long time until Nix made me laugh (I’m pretty sure it was the only time I laughed in this book) and I was able to label Connor as “the one with the mom in jail”; Azi stood apart because he’s a demon, and Trex stood apart because he’s the grumpy one. That seemed to be the extent of their differences by the time I stopped the book, though.
There was also a repeated language issue that bothered me. The author like to use “stood” instead of “standing,” “is stood” instead of “stands,” or “sat” instead of “sitting.” It turns out that this is common of a certain dialect of British English (according to this post), but it isn’t standard English and is not usually used in formal settings. It just hit the ear wrong. I have read a good bit of British English, and I have never come across this, so it was a bit distracting (enough so that I went looking for the above link to determine whether this was actually acceptable), particularly because the narration and dialogue didn’t seem to contain any other dialect-specific features.
My notes and highlights for this book are just full of little moments that bugged me and had me rolling my eyes: for example, when Nix was able to use his sword to cut down the arrows flying at him. Unless he has a magical skill that wasn’t mentioned in this book, those are the slowest arrows ever. Also, it made no sense to me that Evie was planning on breaking Connor’s mom out of prison. She had already mentioned that she would be able to free the woman when she was queen, and when she visited the jail, she didn’t see any horrible conditions (she was actually planning this before she saw the conditions) that would have made it necessary to get the woman out immediately. Connor’s mom had stayed healthy for this long; another week or two wouldn’t have done any harm. Evie already had enough political opposition, so the last thing she needed to do was stage a jail break.
Maybe my expectations for this book were too high since I made a special note of this release date, but I just really did not enjoy reading this, and I don’t want to spend anymore time on this book because I have too many other books that I’d rather read.
This is the second series I’ve read by this author and I must say, she really knows her stuff! There is plenty of action, suspense and some romance. The plot is well written and thought out, there is never a dull moment. The ending leaves us hanging in a good way and I can’t wait to get the next one!
This may just be my favorite book in this highly addictive series!! Evie takes on some huge tasks and accepts a few things as they are. I love that she drew closer to her Protectors and Azi. She remained true to her first love..... bacon. I loved that we saw an end to some conflicts that allow for eveyone who matters to grasp their happiness. Star becomes what she was meant to be and I'm not gonna hide it.... I totally cried at the end of a certain chapter. The entire series has had such beautiful covers 💖💖💖 I love that Ms. Bailey can take you on an adventure that will run your emotions through a gauntlet. She create these highly charged scenes and executes these brilliant conclusions. The words grab you and hold onto not only your attention, but they take your mind and heart hostage. I hugely recommend anything written by this amazingly imaginative authoress.
This series is so easy for me to love and lose myself in the world and drama within the pages. Each book is better than the last. The drama between Evie and her sister continue in this book with the focus being on the trials to reveal the next queen. Evie manages to become queen by just being herself and doing what is right and what she does best, but her journey is far from over.
One thing I have noticed over the course of this series is how Evie changes. The first book was full of snarky and witty comments and retorts while conveying an overall uncaring and unfeeling attitude toward everything. It is obvious that she used that as a defense and coping mechanism which has roots to her childhood and rough past fighting to survive. She is now more commanding and regal but the snark and wit has seem to have lessen. She has learned to allow herself to open up and love others rather than push them away with sarcasm out of fear they will abandon or betray her. I really enjoyed reading Evie as a character on this journey to become queen because I can see how this has changed her for the better.
I am excited to read the final book in the series and see how everything ends for Evie and her men. Speaking of men, I’m happy to read their relationships with Evie progressing, especially with Trex. He sure was a brooding turd in the first book but he has finally given in to his feelings. Azi is still my favorite though. 😍
Another awesome book for Evie & her guys. Since I first started reading this series, it has been one of my favorites by G Bailey. I love the world in this and the characters. Evie is a strong heroine who knows how to save both herself and the people she loves. She is funny and sweet, snarky without being mean, and just straight up awesome. The relationships are built up further in this book - I loved seeing the interactions between Evie and the guys. And of course, the moment we have all been waiting for: the test to determine the Queen. All together, an awesome book full of action and I can’t wait for the last installment!
Things are really getting good now as Evie gets ready to take on her sister in the tests to become queen. There are three total and I couldn't have came up with these if I tried. It was great and a pleasant surprise. The ending about killed me as I need more now. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Evie’s and her Protector’s story continues in with Runes of Black Magic, the third book in A Demon’s Fall series. That ending will leave you wishing Runes of Royalty was ready now. If you love Angels and Demons, battles for a crown, bacon and reverse harem, I highly recommend this series and make sure you’ve read the first 2 books in the series.
This was more predictable than I appreciate. The action scenes were basic, skated over any real build up and challenge. Everything was just too easily resolved and I think the book suffered from the author wanting it to be a multiple person romance rather than a fantasy story with romance elements.
The first book thrived because the love stories wasn’t the central plot and sadly the author lost that story telling here.
Again, more of a 3.5 and this book sort of fell into the 3rd book slump. A ton of plot happens and things move quickly but we miss a lot of the romance aspect that I love from this author.
Ready for the series to come to an end in the next one.
I like the story itself, but there are weak points where things feel rushed or are skipped, like the tests are blips when they should each take a chapter considering their importance. Tests 2 and 3 literally blend into each other. I don't think there actually is a test 3 unless it was who can face to the crown first which is a pretty lame test. And There wasn't a test for Evie sister if that wasn't the test. Also the stuff with the guys, each time she makes the connection with one of them it's like a switch is flipped. The whole thing with Trex was really cringe worthy. And didn't get dad mention in book 2 about training her? Was that just completely forgotten? Or did he and her new angel friend to me we taught her how to fly, kind of, and hide her wings, good enough. These are falling victim to books in the 200 page range where things get skipped over because 200 pages isn't a lot of space to develop the story and the people, especially when you have a female lead, her four boyfriends/protectors, her adopted sister, her evil sister, her boyfriend's evil brother who is dating her evil sister (talk about awkward Christmas dinners. There is going to be some.actual boxing on their boxing day), her estranged dad and new angel friend, her demon associates/her boyfriend's probably not evil brother (although, come on, I know you are a demon and all but have a heart), and her keeper friend, just to name a few. Just naming all those people practically takes 100 pages and you still have to save word count for the fighting, flirting, sexing, obligatory why do I have to wear a dress whining, and 25 pages of bacon eating. I wish Bailey would give herself the pages to develop everything a.little.more because this could be amazing instead of just ok. Also someone should let Evie know about buzzfeed's article on bacon grilled cheese sandwiches. It was bacon weaved into slices of "bread", fried, then a slab of macaroni and cheese is stuffed in the middle and it was out in a panini press, but in half, served.
So this is the third book in the series and I feel like I don't know any of the characters any better than I did in the first book. This is my first reverse harem series and, so far, I have been less than impressed. The Protectors have all been walking on eggshells for the last couple of books so as not to overstep and hurt feelings. What? This just doesn't feel authentic. And the logistics of relations with not just one fella, but four? Three books in and some of the players are just now cracking that egg? It's frustrating to me, so I can only imagine how they feel. Once Evie got the green light from her demon boyfriend(book 2?), she should have called a family meeting and got that party started. Just saying... Anyway, will definitely finish out this series.
This is probably the shortest book in the series so far, but it was action packed.
Evie and her guys finally become official and it is a lot of sexy times in this book. Evie wins her crown in this book and I am glad for the way it was written. It would have been a little corny if Evie won everything right away.
I will be reading the final book very soon because I am intrigued to see what happens now that Evie is Queen.
First off, I love this series and the Main Characters. However, I have some complaints about Book 3. One thing that felt kinda dumb was after the assassination attempt on Evie when Keeper Grey said "Please excuse the attack. Princess Evelina is new to our world", and "So, there is no reason anything will go wrong if she is Queen". Why on earth would Keeper Grey say any of that??? That had to be the dumbest thing he could say. He made it sound as if Evie did something wrong by helping to stop the bad guys. And, to say "There is no reason anything will go wrong if she is Queen" made it sound as if the whole thing was orchestrated by her. What he should have said was something like "Now that that is over let us proceed with this ceremony", something like that. The part where Nix and Evie are making out in the hallway and they hear a door slam shut, and Nix says it was nothing, that was stupid. Since the very first book, Evie has been portrayed as this badass assassin, yet I felt like it was a bit overstated in this book. She couldn't even beat Trex in training. The Protectors, including Evie, don't seem to have much in the way of offensive magic. The only offensive magic they possess is their holy fire. I felt like they should be able to do more than that. When they found out that Angels had been taken they didn't think too hard about why Cex & Erica would need those Angels. When Danike showed up Evie had the perfect chance to ask if she might have some Angel powers, and if she did how can she access them. I'm also curious as to why her wings are so much smaller than other Angels. During the first test, I didn't understand why Evie only tried to through her knife into Erica's hip instead of her head or some other place that would cause her enough pain that she would have had to stop. Toward the end after the last test, I felt like it was stupid that no one was prepared for what Erica would do if she lost. My last issue is about the Mating Rune. I feel like the Mating Rune should have had to be voluntary on both sides instead of someone being able to force it onto another. That just didn't sit right with me. I also would have liked a better physical description of Evie (I never trust book covers). In regards to the sex scenes, I enjoyed them except for the scenes that the Author skipped. I hate it when Authors skim through sex scenes. Thankfully they were all like that. Overall, the good outweighed the bad. I recommend the series to anyone who likes a good PNR, RH Romance. Azi is my favorite MMC, ♥️.

Being completely honest, this series is going downhill for me. I was hoping to see a little more development in the relationships but we’ve just kept this steady, level relationship where they all love each other but I haven’t really felt or seen the relationships grow. There was also a whole chapter (22) where the grammar was just off and it kept throwing me. Maybe it’s me, maybe their is absolutely nothing wrong with it but I found myself have to re-read a bunch of sentences
“I let her go as I look over at Erica, stood with her arms crossed in a white dress” It was like all of a sudden the writing changed and I don’t remember it being for long just a little bit.
Then there’s the ending. Oh boy. It was just hard to read. The fact that someone can MAKE themselves the queens knight without the queen giving consent was confusing. I mean that would mean any power hungry a-hole could do it. Then there’s the fact that she refused to save Star bc Ces would bring the destruction of the world but she is ok destroying the world to save Connor. I get it she loves him but once Ces through him away instead of standing there with her thumb up her ass she should have been fighting Ces! I mean throughout this whole series she’s this badass assassin but in this one scene she just becomes this helpless, useless damsel. It really bothered me bc it was SO out of character!
I also didn’t like the relationship with Erica and Ces. It was hard for me to swallow that a princess who is continually guarded and has to have people go with her to go shopping somehow met a demon overload and fell in love with him. This felt like a HUGE plot hole. I mean if a demon sets foot in the city an alarm is supposed to sound yet somehow this pampered, sheltered princess figured out a way around that?

Wow, this book upped the ante! We get to see the battles between Erica and Evie in the trials for the Queen of the Protector. We get to see more development between Evie and the demon world as Salvatore or Demon Queen (I really enjoyed that part of the series, where Evie doesnt let the demons get thrown away time and time again). I looooove the guys and everyone finally getting on the same page haha, took Trex long enough. Its hard to pick my favorite but I think it would be Azi and Nix, then Connor, then Trex. I won't give away anything about the trial or what happens after, but people will be sucked into this story like I was and will love more of the twists. I like that one of the side characters gets more time airtime and will play a bigger part in book 4. I also liked seeing Seth and his daughter Cherie and the interactions with Hali. Oh and the little twist with Connor's mom, great add-on that elevated the story for me.
One thing I couldn't get over was Evie should have had angel powers and she never tapped into them except for the wings/flying part. She should have had subdued ones from her father, or the ones another character stole, but she didnt. I think that was a story loophole that should have been picked up and it kept bothering me with the overall storyline. A couple other places caused some confusion, so I would give the story a 4.5 instead of a 5/5.
Narration was great in this one, especially with all the side characters from the various realms/cities. Same comments as the previous 2 books but not as noticeable as before.
10000% would recommend this series, I am tempted to relisten again already ❤️
If you have read any of my reviews on G. Bailey, you know that I am a huge fan. Have been since the beginning. Not only is it because she is a beautiful person, she has such a way with words. She can create these stories that take you on these adventures. She has several different series and every time I read one, I don't think she can get any better and then she does.
In Runes of Black Magic we have a lot happening. I am not going to give anything away, but I can say that we get to see Evie and her guys go through the queen trials, which was very intense. I was not able to stop reading until the end. I feel that each one in this series just keeps getting better and better, with just the right amount of action, character advancement, and twists and turns. I have enjoyed Evie as a female lead so very much. I always enjoy a character who can kick a@@. But she does have an odd fascination with bacon.
If you haven't read this series yet, I recommend starting with book one, Runes of Truth. This series is an awesome fast paced read. You have everything from a bad a@@ female lead, to her guys that fit her perfectly. Definitely give this series a try, and if you are already following this series. Guys Runes of Black Magic delivers. Yes there is a cliff hanger, but I feel it sets up for book four perfectly.
Runes of Black Magic is the exciting third installment in A Demon's Fall series.
This book continues to follow Evie as she takes part in the trials against her sister to determine who will become queen. Evie must face challenges of physical strength, the mind, and one mystery trial in order to stop Erica and her plan to help Cex gain black magic and destroy the world.
Evie and the guys get a lot closer in this book, physically and emotionally. With everything finally out in the open they can all officially come together, no secrets just feelings. We also get another look at Evie's dad, who might not be as callous as he seemed in the last book.
This book ends with a ton of action. The true queen has taken her crown but hell is breaking loose. Cex is determined to gain power and destroy Evie and his brothers in the process.
I can't wait to read the conclusion in Runes of Royalty!
While this book is not as good as the first, it is much better than the second. I’m going to keep the review as short as this book. Still filled with action and adventure, there is a perfect amount of character development and relationships. There are approximately 3-5 sexual scenes but they are small and not as sexually detailed as most RH. The writing is clear, understandable and engaging. Scenes were described nicely, I personally can imagine them while I was reading. A few characters began to feel like background characters, but with the limited space for a small book, I can easily say that each character had at least 1 major role/scene in the book.
My only real complaint is over how short these books are. But even that complaint is hard to whine about because the book is really good. I rated it 4/5. It lost a star for being short, which might seem petty, but this book is much shorter than a average book. I will be reading the next one!
I no lie love this series! If I could be a book character I would be Evie, she’s my spirit animal! Runes of Black Magic is the third book in this series, so if you haven’t read the previous two, what are you waiting for. For those of us that have Evie has been hunted by Protectors her entire life and all because she is a half born heir to the Protector throne. I love the twists and turns throughout the story, Evie is quite the badass but also learning to be more vulnerable. She has had to fight survive her whole life but this has not only helped shape the person she is but has given her tools necessary to become a great Queen, if only her sister doesn’t kill her first. Will Evie be Queen, can she free the demons from prosecution, stop an Overlord from destroying the world, be with the men she loves? You’ll just have to read to find out!
In this book Evie takes on Erica for the throne and Cex is working behind the scenes to destroy the world.
I still hate Evie, she totally sucks. I hate her immaturity when it comes to the guys and her selfishness when it comes to her father. She literally punched him in the face because he was shocked that she was his daughter who he thought was dead this whole time. Then she treats him like crap because he got mad at her for attacking him when she finds out he's her father. It makes no sense!!
Also it seems our main group is really only concerned with having sex with each other and everything else is an afterthought.
Lastly, I have absolutely zero idea why Cex is even doing any of this. There's not even a hint of an explanation. Granted, I skimmed a lot of sections maybe there was an answer in there somewhere.
