Kathy Buckley has led quite a challenging life. It seem almost beyond belief that she could grow up not realizing that she was nearly deaf. How could her parents not explain to her what her disability was? There are some funny stories and some heart-rending stories from her life. But the thing that made it worthwhile to read this book was in the end when she shares lessons she has learned from her hard life. She believes that God has given her a purpose in life and she gives motivational speeches to many types of audiences. There is a lot to be learned from her!
This is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE books. I met Kathy Buckley in person while I was attending SLCC. She is an amazing woman. I am inspired by her ability to have gone through so much in her life and end up the incredible, funny, articulate woman she is now. FYI - there are a few swear words (less than 5 I would say).
Great book. Amazing woman. Severely deaf and undiagnosed. Blows my mind all that she put up with growing up ... really makes me look closely at students that I feel I am not reaching. Great story. Quick read. Highly recommend.
I am almost finished with this book and let me tell you that it totally rocks! I had no idea who Kathy Buckley was before this book. What great humor and great words of wisdom. I have even written a few down! Must read :)
A story about a deaf lady who can lip read form a young age so she is mis/undiagnosed. She grows up to be a stand-up comedian. So the book is very funny. It does have swearing, sexual references.
