A heart-warming tale of Christmas, elves, Santa Claus…and a really mad witch.
There are many things Cinnamon Mercy Claus is struggling with this holiday season: the memories of long forgotten holidays when the Christmas season was about family; that she’s just found out her grandfather is Santa Claus; and that her grandmother is a witch—who is hell-bent on destroying Christmas for them all.
Snow Eden loves all things magical and mysterious, witchy and weird. When she’s not writing, she’s usually wandering through the forest, hoping to catch sight of a fairy or meet a wicked witch. (Or a zombie, she’s not that particular when it comes to all things supernatural.) To keep on top of all her stories, sign up for her MAILING LIST (http://eepurl.com/c_9_T5).
The Witch of the North Pole was one of the most delightful Amazon Prime surprises I have encountered so far! Our main character, Cinnamon Mercy, is fighting for her independence working a dull accounting job on the West Coast. Then one day her eccentric grandmother rolls up and whisks her away for the holidays...to the North Pole. Turns out Grandma is Mrs. Claus herself, and she is feeling under-appreciated for all the hard work she does 364 days a year, and she's had ENOUGH! The next witch--yes, witch--in the family line who can possibly do all the work is Cinnamon, and she's on her own to figure out how to save "the naughties" and develop Santa's flight plan, all before Christmas Eve. As much as she wants to use logic and numbers, Cinnamon has to listen to her heart and cast a spell of intuition to really connect with others to determine how to throw the best Winter Solstice gathering, bring Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus together, and save Christmas for the entire world.
This book was so fun and easy to read, I enjoyed it so much! The descriptions of the North Pole were so fun, and I loved how all of the events played out. There was a huge crisis, but for once, the issue was not a murder or an affair. Just a Christmas crunch where people lost sight of their joy and priorities. Two 'towns' living basically together without interacting. Years of traditions being taken for granted and becoming just work rather than love and magic. Everything was written out very nicely with charming characters and good pacing. An absolutely charming holiday read!
“The magic of Christmas - reuniting families, giving children hope - is often the last chance we get. It’s the simplest of acts that can affect the rest of their lives.”
This cover is silly and the story is pretty silly too, but it was definitely festive. Combine witches and Christmas and I am in.
“As a team, a Santa Claus, along with the witch he marries, runs the North Pole and all of Christmas.”
The MC finds out (surprise trip to the North Pole via Alaska) she’s the granddaughter of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, who also happens to be a witch. This is definitely a set up to a series and a quick holiday read. It was fun (I particularly liked the different elf jobs) , but I don’t think I’ll be continuing on the series. Maybe next Christmas I’ll be in the mood for another..
I absolutely loved this book! I'm a huge Christmas lover and I am also a big fan of anything "witchy" - throw the two together, and yes, you have the makings for a book I'll love.
Cinnamon Mercy (please call her "Mercy") has a normal life in a normal job, albeit a bit boring, as an accountant. She's not really thrilled to be an accountant, but she's good at it and it's better than following in her parent's footsteps, when she wants to carve out a life for herself. Granted, she's had it pretty good. Mom and dad have no money problems and she's never hurt for anything.
She is rather content to leave things as they are, until she shows up at her parent's house and finds a note that says they have left to celebrate the holidays elsewhere. Shocked and hurt, she heads back to her home to figure out what to do.
Little does she know what the future holds for her. It turns out she's not a "normal" human. She finds that out the hard way when she is sent on a trip and finds herself at the North Pole. The real, actual North Pole. Not the kind of weather this sunshine loving girl is used to. Not only is she at the freaking North Pole, she is most likely losing her marbles as she hallucinates elves and fairies and keeps smelling cookies, and.....on and on it goes. And then she meets her grandmother who clears up what Cinnamon really is (and grandma, can you PLEASE call me "Mercy"?).
It's a delightful read, filled with the magic of Christmas. I so wanted to step into the pages of this book and become Cinnamon.
Cute short story. Mrs Claus (who just happens to be Cinnamon's never known Grandma) is super mad at Santa. It seems she does everything around the place (what wife doesn't?) and she is feeling very neglected. So, she is leaving and it is up to Cinnamon to save Christmas. Just as soon as she can figure out what to do with the Naughty or Nice list, the escaped fairies, the prankster elfs and a few other problems along the way.
Cinnamon is summoned to her grandparents house to help save Christmas. She wasn't prepared to learn that her grandfather was the one and only Santa Claus and her grandmother is a witch. Her grandmother is really the one behind Santa's great success. She keeps everything running smoothly but lately she is fee!ing unappreciated and is going to leave Santa and get a divorce, if this happens Christmas will be ruined. Cinnamon has to either learn how to do things as well as her grandmother very quickly or try to get her grandparents back together. This was a cute , quick holiday read. I enjoyed this short story.
Nice little book about Cinnamon Mercy Claus who finds out her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and that she and her grandmother are both witches. Mercy, which she prefers over Cinnamon, arrives at the north pole to find her grandmother pissed off at Santa because he's been ignoring her after two hundred years of her magic allowing Christmas to happen. She hands over the reins to Mercy and tells her to deal with it. Mercy finds out about the elves and the happenings that are going on but has trouble figuring out how to save Christmas. She finally puts it all together and manages to convince her grandmother to return. She even finds an interesting man along the way. A fun read.
Reading this book gave me a headache. Maybe this short book would make a better animated story. At different times in the book there are four or more things happening at once. Too fast for my brain, and really not essential to the book.
The Witch of the North Pole by Snow Eden, is the first part of the "Cinnamon Mercy Claus" series, told in first-person point of view by Cinnamon.
When Cinnamon comes home for Christmas, she finds that her parents have skipped town and are off on a holiday vacation. They left her a ticket to visit her grandparents instead. Cinnamon arrives at her destination and is whisked away by her grandmother...to the North Pole! There she learns that her grandparents are none other than Santa Claus and Mrs Claus, and that her grandmother is a powerful witch. It's her magic that powers Santa's work shop and keeps Christmas running smoothly. However, Nana (as Cinnamon begins calling her) is feeling overworked and under-appreciated. She plans to wash her hands of Christmas by informing Cinnamon that she's a witch, too, and then dumping everything on her with no training. Cinnamon wants no part of it, but she can't let Santa or the children down. Besides, she's determined to heal the rift between her grandparents. Cinnamon is aided by elves, faeries, and a mortal man who accidentally sees some of the elves when Nana's cloaking magic begins to fade. It turns out the local villagers had long suspected who their neighbors were, and they are eager to help Cinnamon make things right for Nana.
A bit trite, but mostly fun fluff. It was entertaining to see Cinnamon go from thinking everyone around her was losing their minds to accepting the truth of her heritage and fighting to save it.
This deserves a 3 1/2, but since I can't award half stars, I'll bump it up to four.
This is a really delightful novel for young readers, and anyone young at heart, who loves Christmas and all the magic this entails. A story about a young woman called Cinnamon Mercy Claus who had no real idea who she was before she ended up on a Christmas holiday in the North Pole visiting her grandparents. Little did she know that she was the granddaughter of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus but she was soon put right in the picture by her very angry Nana. Nana had been married to Santa for the past 200 years and she had been planning Christmas for him and the rest of the world for all that time too, and she had had enough and wanted out now. Yes she was divorcing Santa and Mercy soon found out that she was to stand in for her Nana to save Christmas and return some happiness to Santa because if Santa is unhappy, the elves, his helpers, would be unhappy and so would all the children all over the world. So Mercy did her best to fill her nana’s boots, literally, and she finds out more things about herself than she ever imagined possible. Amidst all this she starts to realise how empty her life back home had been and she dreads going back to it. She wants her nana to return but what would then become of her? Well, she was to become the crazy witch of the North Pole. A novel so full of wonder and magic it is more than enough to thrill readers of all ages as none of us is too old to enjoy the magic of Christmas, family, friends, gifts and sharing. A truly heart-warming novel which shows that when one believes everything is possible.
The Witch of the North Pole (Cinnamon Mercy Claus, Book #1) by Snow Eden
This was an enjoyable Christmas themed read. Not really a full novel, more a lengthy novella. In it, Mrs. Claus (the current Witch of the North Pole) is leaving Santa, so their granddaughter, Cinnamon Mercy Claus, is summoned to the North Pole to take over the duties of Mrs. Claus -- or, in other words, -- to be the one in charge of organizing and seeing to it that Christmas happens. Cinnamon has never met her grandparents. In fact, she didn't know she was the granddaughter of Santa Claus until she was called to the North Pole. The book is basically about Cinnamon learning of her heritage, what it could mean to her own life, learning to be a witch and about how to run Christmas from a very specially designed computerized center.
The plotting was fun, the pacing done well, the characters interesting and likeable, and the proofing and editing were done well. I only found one awkward sentence that I had to read several times before it made sense (location 437 on Kindle).
After being left behind at Christmas while her parents celebrate in Barbados, Cinnamon Mercy Claus is forced to resort to visiting her grandparents - at the North Pole.
If this had been a paperback, I'd have thought that some pages must have become stuck to each other. Much of this I just couldn't follow. The memories that Ginger had of Mercy's grandmother didn't reconcile with the person that Cinnamon meets, a screaming harridan.
There seems to be a plethora of novels about witches and Christmas this year. This one just wasn't to my taste.
A great sweet read that you will race through. Lots of feel good factors but also a lot of the insecurities that we all have. When she found the ticket to visit her grandparents, she didn't realise the not only was she heading on a 18 hour journey but also straight into a domestic fight. Finding out that your grandfather is Santa is one thing but that your grandmother runs the whole show and in a witch is another. Especially when she tells you that you are a witch too and then walks out. What will she do to save Christmas? Can she awaken her witch powers? Will she get her grandparents back together again? Nice easy to connect with characters.
What an adorable book and now I desperately want to read the next installment. I truly loved all the characters. Wasn't really one to dislike. I thought Grandma Claus was a riot and I could see a roly poly Santa with a huge smile but sad eyes until the Solstice Party. I loved Cinnamon Mercy our heroine. She had me laughing and crying. Daniel was adorable and his story was so touching. Seems like twins are my thing at the moment. This was my second or third book with identical twins but I loved Mayor twin too. So if you like a little paranormal, a lot of Christmas, like to go aaah at the end and laugh and cry in between don't miss this precious story.
A girl finds out her grandfather is Santa Claus and her grandmother is a witch who makes everything run smoothly at the North Pole. However, she is mad at her husband and informs her granddaughter she is a witch also and leaves her to save Christmas.
It’s a light hearted story that will leave you chuckling about how crazy the holiday season can be when you’re left in charge with no instructions and no help other than an elf who is a quarter witch herself!
I liked this story and recommend it for a lighthearted read the put you in the Christmas spirit during December or any other time of the year!
Cinnamon Mercy Claus is meeting her father’s mother for the first time. She didn’t know she even had a grandmother, let alone a feisty one with faming red hair and a bad attitude. Nor did she realize they would be meeting at the North Pole. Meeting her grandfather was an even bigger surprise than finding out she was a witch with an impossible mission.
There plenty of humor and surprises in this first book of the series. The satellite characters have potential for plots in future books. This is a fun read and I look forward to the next book.
Cinnamon I’m going to her parents for Christmas found a note and a ticket and headed to the north pole where she found out that Mr. and Mrs. Claus we’re grandparents. From there she watches her grandmother throw a fit and leave and she’s left holding the bag. She has to say Christmas. The book was kind of long confusing too many things happening at once so yes I was confused at first. Still trying to decide if I want to carry on with the books.
A fun Christmas read. When Cinnamon Mercy’s parents decide to go away for Christmas, Cinnamon is summoned up North by her grandmother. Up north turns out to be the North Pole and her grandmother is none other than Mrs Claus so that means Santa is her grandfather!! That’s not the only surprise in store for Cinnamon as she learns she’s also a witch and it’s up to her to save Christmas. Can she do it?
This is a fun loving book about Santa, Mrs Santa and Mercy. The Santa family. Mrs Santa was having an underappreciated time of the year. So she got Mercy to come and she left. Mercy never believed in the magic business before, even though she is a witch. Decide with Cinnamon whether you believe, or not. She decides she just help Santa. The joys of helping the elves and the workshop was pictured in a new and fun way. If you don't believe, you will.
Its a good introduction to a world, but it's no novel or short story. There is no denouement and too many loose ends to tie up. There is the hint of a live triangle, a hint of a half sibling, a hint of purpose but it never gets realized. So it's a pass for me even though it's cute. The next book doesn't seem to address the loose ends from this book and that makes me even less interested in continuing.
It's a little faster paced than it should be; all the twists and turns and emotional revelations are handled by the main character with ease, skipping over any turmoil and moving immediately to acceptance. Other characters have one emotion the entire story. I would have liked to see a bit more development, but maybe that'll come with other books in the series. Looking forward to the next one.
This is a cute little Christmas tail about finding your true path in life, and about not cutting your nose off to solve your face. It's also a timely reminder to not take those around you for granted. Thrown in along the way is a little bit of romance and the potential for future romance, some maniacal decorator elves, and enough food descriptions to make you very hungry (mostly for sweets). Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!
If you want to read a Christmas witch story, this is a good one.
Mercy thought she was going to enjoy Christmas at her parents, but they have gone on a holiday, so she is going to her grandparents instead. Grandparents she never visited before. So it is a huge surprise that they are Santa and Mrs. Claus.
And he grandmother is fine with it and leaves her in charge. So now Mercy has to find out how her magic works and how to safe Christmas.
This was pretty cute. This was a lot like the Santa clause movies but she finds out she’s Mrs. Claus. And she find out she’s a witch.
Cinnamon’s grandmother is Mrs Claus and she finds out and her grandmother leaves so Cinnamon must take over. And get the naughty kids nice gifts. If they understand their gift and change their ways then they can get on the nice list. Very silly but child like which is nice for Christmas
This was a very clever story. Most Christmas story's hinge on a catastrophe occurring that will disrupt Christmas. In many ways, the heroine IS that catastrophe. While working to save Christmas and her family, she learns a great deal about herself. Good read.
The Witch of the North Pole, by Snow Eden, is an incredible book. It is a magical story about the North Pole, its residents, the real Santa, and his family. Completely original take, that is beautiful, enchanting, funny, and with a big dose love and family. Please read this! You will be very glad you did.
This book is different. Cinnamon is sent to visit her grandparents for the very first time in her life as a adult woman. When she gets there she realizes her grandfather is Santa and that her grandmother Mrs Claus is leaving him. It is up to Cinnamon to save Christmas. Naturally the book is a little out there. I thought it was entertaining but seemed a little rushed.
Spoiler - Mrs Claus is a witch, and she is Christmas magic! This is a very sweet tale of the workings of the North pole. I love that the story focuses on the family dynamic and that even the Clauses aren't immune to family drama. I highly recommend this story to help get you into the Christmas mood.
It's a children's book but some adults will find it satisfying as something light during the Christmas season. If your child is looking for something to read during Christmas or any time of the year this is a nice one to pick up. I do feel the actual ending went too fast and maybe some things were glossed over as answers could be found. I enjoyed this wasn't a typical Christmas story.
Snow Eden wrote a very fun Christmas book. I could feel the happiness the feeling when Christmas is coming to town. People smiling, kids seeing Santa on his slay. Finding away to give family and friends people they don't know a gift of magic on a very special time of year.
