This is a sequel to the last book, but it felt like there was some context missing. Like maybe a book came between, and i somehow skipped it. But, no.
The plot was fine, but because of this time jump, the couple are separated, and eventually work their way back together. The story adds in a dog(he is a character, and was mostly likable, though truth be told he doesn't do much.) and a new, very old and junky truck.
The MMC has a neurotic work partner/friend, and he also was a likable addition to the story.
Other than that, while i like the MCs, i cant help but feel the story does more telling than showing-she's supposed to be a reporter, and unless her falling headfirst into sticky situations counts as 'reporting' she barely thinks of writing a 'story.' He is a hacker/reporter/rich guy who has his fingers in lots of pies, and has a strong work ethic. Trouble is, we are told all this a lot, but we never see much of this. Even if we do, it's his AI doing all the work.
The love story feels too surface level, with little to no meaningful connection between them, and the razzle-dazzle side characters are designed to distract the readers away from these rather substantial flaws with the core of the story.
But hey, maybe I'm thinking too deeply about this, i should probably just turn off my brain, and have a silly goofy time.
I read these books for a pallet cleanse or a quick read to keep me out of a reading slump, but i cant help but prefer other books with similar vibes, but much more substance.
