Happily Ever After #5

Loved by the Viscount

Rate this book
After three months of marriage, the husband of Lady Rosalind Branson falls to his death down the stairs of a brothel and Rosalind has but one feeling -- relief, as she is now free. She soon learns, however, that her dowry has been spent and the estate is ruin, leaving her destitute. The only option presented to her is marriage to her husband’s brother, a fate she refuses to accept.

William Elliot, Viscount of Southam, has a life of which many are envious. He has a fine estate, a pleasurable life in society, good looks, and charm. He also has a meddling mother, a trying brother, and headaches that plague him for days on end. When the woman he always wanted marries another, he agrees to allow his mother to host a house party in order to find him a wife.

When William’s brother gets himself into yet another spot of trouble, William resolves not to help him this time, until he recognizes the victim of Alfred’s latest scheme -- Rosalind Branson, a woman he has known since childhood, yet has never particularly noticed before. He is determined to right his brother’s wrongs and help the woman. Seeing no other option, Rosalind accepts the offer to stay for the Shandol house party, and both she and William are surprised when they find themselves falling for one another. Their growing attraction, however, is tested by Rosalind’s mistrust of men, William’s former attachment to Lady Olivia, and his mother and brother, who conspire against them. Can they overcome all that stands between them to find love?

Loved by the Viscount is a 61,000-word romance with no cliffhangers, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily ever after! For readers over 18, due to some steamy content.

I would like to thank the author for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Rosalind is a new widow who hated her husband, has no money and now faces being forced to marry his heir. William is a Discount who's estate is in real need of an heiress. Both feel they may end up having little choice in who they marry, even if the one person they want is right in front of them.

Loved by the Viscount is an engaging and captivating Regency Romance by Ellie St. Clair.
With well defined main characters as in Rosalind, a young widow, and Viscount William Southam, who are complex characters with problems of their own. Despite the trials that the two have to go through to be together, it is interesting to see how the romance evolves.
Well written, the story has a good plot and storyline - though at times - certain situations seem to be somewhat contrived.
There is a good cast of supporting characters, both the good, and the villains who in the end get what they justly deserve.
This is a well presented book with an eye catching cover. Recommended.
Gifted with a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

"No great love story is without its perils. For it is the only way one can truly appreciate the resulting happiness."
Tillies statement says it all. There are perils in this love story. And, as the series title already promises, a happily ever after.
Beautiful story with loads of interesting characters, of whom I'd love to read more. And, since I haven't read the first 4 books, I can! Because some of those characters have their own book. I'm looking forward to reading them!

Loved by the Viscount

I have enjoyed this book very much. I loved the story of
the very kind Viscount who’s gruesome brother and equally gruesome Mother planned a robbery of a coach to fund their debt. The passenger in the coach was a very poor widow whose revolting Brother in law was insistent that he would marry her after her year of mourning, so she was on the run from him. The story is excellent and leads to a very romantic finale’. I enjoyed it immensely. Well done Ellie.

Loved

This was a good book, a quick read for a quiet summer afternoon. I have read other books in this enjoyable series that I enjoyed more than this one. I could relate to Rosalind, always trying to please everyone else. It was nice that she decided to go with her heart. My only question is why they didn't have Lord Templeton arrested if he killed his cousin?

Good

I found this a good book. Rosalind is a great character but it takes her time to find her own strength when faced with a forced marriage by her 1st husband's brother which she had previously refused. William saves her for a time by inviting her to stay during a house party. Will they find their love.

Loved this one better than the last book, though Rosalind was kind of a boring heroine. I did enjoy how things worked out both for Rosalind and William and Hester and Bart. That was karma at its finest. I'm so glad William got rid of both his mother and his brother. They were downright awful. It ended well

A good read

William - has a trouble maker brother
Rosalind- widow who wants to be free but the new earl ( old Earl's cousin) wants her.
I enjoyed reading this entertaining story that is well written with charismatic characters. This story is better than what the blurb stated. Their story has a loving HEA.

Not for me

Historical veneer with some truly repugnant side characters along to create sensational drama. I'm not looking for grand plots but this was really thin. Just wasn't for me.

It was a very nice story

It was enjoyable to read, I liked the hero and heroine, I hated the villains. There were sweet parts, there were parts that made your face red. But I enjoyed reading it very much.

Full on

Another great book full of twists and turns showing not the usual way relationships begin. Whereas the storyline regarding that families are not always full of love and respect and supporting each other.

True love wins out

His mother was pretty awful as well as his brother. They plotted to keep her away from him, going so far as to lock her in an old cottage. Interesting story.

Rosalind stared out at the headstones in the quiet cemetery. Lord Harold Branson, Earl of Templeton, had fallen down the stairs of a brothel due to excessive drunkenness and he broke his neck. She had married him only a few short months ago! Her friend, Olivia Finchley, Duchess of Breckenridge, came up behind her to ask if she was okay. Thinking that Rosalind was crying in grief, she was shocked when Rosalind told her she was glad he was dead, he had been cruel and now she was free. Olivia then admitted that she had never liked the man either but had thought Rosalind loved him. They slowly walked back to the guests.

Rosalind felt someone roughly grab her arm. Harold’s cousin Bart, now the new Earl, insisted he needed to talk to her despite having guests. She disliked him for his disrespectful leering at her while her husband was still alive. But she followed him rather than make a scene. He happily told her that all of her money had been spent by Harold and she was destitute. He had a plan, though – she would marry HIM instead. She flatly refused and said she would return to her parents. That amused Bart since he had already discussed this with them and they agreed she should marry him. After all, her mother blamed her for not keeping her husband interested enough to stay home! She ran out of the room into the library to allow herself to cry for the first time.

As she was about to leave, Rosalind heard a noise. William Elliot, Viscount of Southam, was standing there. She had longed for his affections when they were younger, but she knew he cared for Olivia. William said he had been in the room looking for a good brandy when she ran in and cried. He didn’t want to interrupt, so he stayed quiet. They were both embarrassed. Before she could explain, Oliva arrived and William left.

When her year of mourning was up, Bart told her they would marry. So she ran away. Two highwaymen tried to rob her, but she had nothing of value. So they kidnapped her for ransom, despite her protests that no one would care. The highwayman was actually Alfred, William’s brother who had lost money in a scheme. When William wouldn’t bail him out yet again, he robbed coaches to get the money he needed. But hiding her in a cabin on his brother’s estate, Alfred realized she really didn’t have any money and he didn’t know what to do. So he sent Richard to fetch his brother. William was furious and took her back to his estate to talk. William wanted to make things right for her if she could tell him what she wanted? For now, she could stay at his estate. But what then? She had nowhere to go and no money. Things were getting more and more complicated!

This was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed. The characters were developed well, even if many of them were not all that respectable! The story line was good, giving the reader hope that William and Rosalind might find a future together. But her mistrust of men might hold her back! And she still hasn’t told William the truth of her disgusting marriage and her cousin’s manipulation. What will she do? Grab a copy of the book and see how it all turns out!

After three months of marriage, the husband of Lady Rosalind Branson falls to his death down the stairs of a brothel and Rosalind has but one feeling relief, as she is now free from a brute of a husband. She soon learns, however, that her dowry has been spent and the estate in ruin, leaving her destitute. The only option presented to her is marriage to her husband’s cousin the new Lord Templeton, a fate she refuses to accept. William Elliot, Viscount of Southam, has a life of which many are envious. He has a fine estate, a pleasurable life in society, good looks, and charm. He also has a meddling mother, a trying brother, and headaches that plague him for days on end. He also thought himself in love with his childhood friend Olivia but isn't broken hearted when she marries a Duke, so William agrees to allow his mother to host a house party in order to find him a wife.
When William’s brother Alfred gets himself into yet another spot of trouble, William resolves not to help him this time, until he recognizes the victim of Alfred’s latest scheme, Rosalind Branson, a woman he has known since childhood. He is determined to right his brother’s wrongs & seeing no other option, Rosalind accepts the offer to stay for the Shandol house party
A delightful romance, this is the fifth in the series it could be read on its own. William had known Olivia (book 4) she doesn't feature in person but Tillie (book2) is a house party guest & it was good to catch up with her it no way impinges on this story. William is a strong likeable man, Rosalind is sadly lacking in self esteem but during the course of the book she gains confidence & her true character emerges. I read the book in under a day as I was captivated by the story which flowed really well & the characters were well fleshed. I absolutely loved Bart & Hesters’ comeuppances a big Yes! from me
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I really enjoyed this book - it had wonderful characters (evil & good), a lovely story, some sad & emotional moments & many happy instances. Lady Rosalind Branson is married to a man she doesn't love but her parents want her married to the titled gentleman, who turns out not to be a gentlemen at all. They are married for 3 months & he falls down the stairs at a brothel & dies; & Rosalind finds her only emotion in his death is relief. Her dead husband has used all of her dowry & his cousin now has the title & estate - she is destitute! The cousin wants to marry her & she refuses & leave to try & find her way to freedom.

Rosalind heads for a friends estate, Lady Olivia, to seek safety from the cousin but on the way is kidnapped by the brother of a childhood friend, William Elliot, Viscount of Southam. William discovers what his brother has done & that's when all the fun, adventure, romance & lies begin - there's a house party, an overbearing mother, a difficult brother plus headaches that plague the Viscount for days on end that he has no cure for. After William discovers Rosalind at his estate, the only option is for her to stay for the house party. They are both surprised when they find the are attracted & falling in love. Their HEA is tested; however, with Rosalind's distrust of men, her worry over William’s childhood infatuation to Lady Olivia, his bothersome brother & conniving Mother. Will they find their happiness - will love win over evil. I was gifted this ARC & I am happy to highly recommend it!

This is a very good read and will keep you entertained for hours. The author did a great job with her characters and the interaction between them.

Rosalind decided to travel to her best friends house after a year of morning To escape a marriage she does not want to her late husband's cousin. Who happens to be just as bad as her first husband who she was married to for two months before he died in a brothel and left her penniless. Her coach is held up and she is taken hostage for money by Alfred Williams no good brother. When he finds out the is no money and not even her parents want we he decides his brother William can get him out of another mess. William knows Rosalind from when they were children do he provides her shelter until her friend gets back from her trip as he feels he owes her after what his brother did to her. William comes to know Rosalind better during a house party and start to have feelings for one another. However, his family is against the the union and does everything they can to prevent it.

This is a great story of two people that have dysfunctional families and will discover that love can cure all of you let it in.

I received this book for an honest way review.

I really enjoyed reading this story. It took me by surprise how delicately written the tumultuous events that occurred in Lady Rosalind life. She had been through an emotionally draining marriage. Then after the death of her husband, her parents had decided she should accept the proposal of marriage from her husbands cousin. An odious man, he coveted his cousins wife. She was repulsed by his offer and her parents refusal to help her. Rosalind told him that she would never marry him. She ran away. On her way to her dearest friend's home, she was waylaid by highwaymen. They kidnaped her and held her in a cabin for a few days for ransom. She was then rescued by Lord William Elliot, Viscount of Southam. Apparently William's brother Alfred had kidnapped her. William disgusted by his brothers action went about to make amends to Rosalind. He invited her to stay at his home. Well things just became more complicated and dangerous for Rosalind and emotionally confusing for William. This was an exciting book that I could not put down. There was action, danger and romance. A great read. I highly recommend this book. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a most interesting story. It started at a funeral involved a kidnapping or two and ended with true love.
I liked the characters in this story. They were not the usual perfect pretty heroine and arrogant wealthy hero with no issues.
Instead we had a widow whose brother in law assumed he had the right to take over the estate as well as his brother’s widow, a dissolute brother who simply expected his older brother to dig him out of his scrapes he involved himself in and a viscount who has been in love with a married woman since they were little more than children. Into the mix add the widow’s unbelievably uncaring parents and the viscounts incredibly scheming selfish mother and you have the recipe for a truly unputdownable book. There was a delightful tension throughout about the building relationship between the widow and the viscount about which his mother and brother were very unhappy.
I read long into the night with this one. Recommend it to everyone who enjoys the aforementioned elements.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author but the review was entirely my own work.

I could hardly put this book down, as it grabbed me with the story and kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. I loved the contrasts between the “good” characters and those so vile I could barely stand to read about them. This is a tender love story woven through with breath holding moments of suspense.
Lady Rosalind Templeton has always had a fondness for the Viscount of Southam William Elliot, although he took little notice of her when they were young as his heart had always belonged to her best friend Olivia. Now both she and Olivia had married, and hers had ended shortly after it began with her husbands death in a brothel. Now she finds herself threatened by his even more despicable and deviant cousin who has inherited the Earldom, and squandered what small stipend that should have come to her, and wants to claim her as well. Little does she know as she flees his attentions, that she is running into even more danger and events that will forever change her life. I received an advanced copy to read and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Rosalind has been left destitute and embarrassed by her awful husband Harold, the Earl of Templeton when he dies at a brothel. Then her unfeeling parents and Harold’s dastardly cousin and heir try to force to marry him once her year of mourning is up. William, Viscount of Southam, has a crush on Olivia, who recently married Duke of Breckenridge for years. He knows he needs to get past this and marry someone else to continue his line. He certainly doesn’t want his selfish and foolish brother Alistair to inherit. It’s not bad enough Alistair has taken to robbing coaches for money, but he kidnaps Diana twice in his quest to try to control William. William falls in love with Diana even though with her quiet ways she is nothing like Olivia and not the type of woman that he ever expected to marry. But she loves books and dogs and just wants to be loved in return. Nice Regency romance with plenty of drama.

We all know the old adage that “you can’t tell a book by its cover”. Well, in the case of Ellie St. Clair’s Loved by the Viscount: A Historical Regency Romance (Happily Ever After Book 5) that is definitely not true. The cover is beautiful, romantic and fun - and the book is exactly the same thing. This tale had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. Both Rosalind and William, the leads here, are perfectly crafted and their supporting cast is also superb. Really, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommended and I’m definitely looking forward to the next Happily Ever After book.
