About the author

Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.

Years ago I used to work at Barnes and Noble as the Children's Lead. As such, one of my duties was to do story time on Saturday mornings. I cant tell you how many various children's books I read, and I honestly don't remember many reactions. For the most part I read a story and moved on to the next, only noting when one was an utter miss so I didn't read it again.

This was the only one that had an extreme enough of a positive reaction that I recall it vividly. I pulled out the book and suddenly some 30 or so children lost their minds and I suddenly felt like a rock star on a stage… if the entire fan base was five and under.

I picked it up again recently for my daughter, and it is once again repeating. We've read it five nights in a row now, and every time she gets so excited to hear it. If you have a young child in your life, make sure you give this one a try as it seems to be a consistent hit. 4/5 stars

RIP. Deeply saddened to hear of Anna's death today after a year-long struggle with cancer. I loved reading her books to my son, and he loved them too. These stories, and her wonderful illustrations, will always mean a lot to me. They are perfect reading material to share with your little ones.

Citită în pijama, dimineaţa, cu prietenul meu. A fost tare drăguţă, mai ales ilustraţiile şi cred că este o carte perfectă de citit copilului de peste 2 ani noaptea, înainte de culcare. Copiiilor le plac repetiţiile, iar ,,Lama lama în pijama" este o construcţie adorabilă. Cartea îi poate învăţa pe copilaşi o lecţie despre iubirea părinţilor, prezentă şi atunci când nu sunt alături de ei în permanenţă - cum e mama lamă, care are de îndeplinit câteva sarcini în gospodărie, după o zi lungă în care cel mai probabil a acordat atenţie în principal puiului ei. Versurile au fost adaptate reuşit în limba română, iar bazat pe aceasă carte este şi un serial Netflix animat. Mă întristează să aflu că autoarea s-a stins din viaţă, la numai 50 de ani, nemaiavând ocazia de a continua seria de cărţi despre micuţa lamă.

I don't get why this is so loved. Baby llama has separation anxiety at bed time and has a tantrum. Mama llama reassures him that she'll always be there. The end. Anyone with kids knows that one reassurance won't change behavior. And, if your kids don't already have separation anxiety at bedtime, DON'T READ THIS TO THEM! Baby llama's anxiety is illustrated dramatically and will definitely put the idea in their heads.

I absolutely love reading this one aloud to my daughter, Therese! The rhyming is so perfectly cadenced and she always giggles at the scrunched up mad face little llama makes when he is sooooo tired of waiting on his mama. A fun, fun read and good to remind "baby llamas" that mama is always there.

LOVE llama llama, even when he tries every trick in the book to avoid bedtime. Even more, LOVE Mama Llama when she has had ENOUGH!

Baby Llama’s impatience turns to worry, anger, and fear waiting for Mama Llama to bring a drink of water in this delightful rhyming bedtime tale. Adorable paintings of baby Llama in various stages of distress are a perfect match for the all-too-familiar nighttime scenario; the deep blue hues give the reader a sense of calm in spite of little llama’s escalating “llama drama.”A terrific bedtime story and fun read-aloud for the very young, this will elicit knowing looks and smiles from children and adults alike.

I wouldn’t normally count a board book towards my reading challenge, but I’ve decided that the sheer amount of time I’ve sunk into reading this one warrants some credit.
Thankfully, this is an awesome and hilarious book, because we read it at least twice a day in my house, usually more. Every time I suggest we read a book I’m met with chanting of “MAMBA, MAMBA” as my one year old charges at me with this one in hand. He always giggles his head off at the page where Mama Llama runs frantic into the room. I think he’s getting ideas. Anyway, 10/10 would recommend for toddler reading fun, we’ll have to pick up some of the other Llama Llama books soon!

This review is on behalf of my toddler who has gone back to this book time and time again while we’re under the stay-at-home order. Nothing makes her happier than the little stuffed llama throughout the book and the kisses she gets on her head whenever we read about Mama Llama giving kisses.

Also, I wanted this book on Goodreads because I am counting this book in my 2020 reading challenge under the prompt “Children’s Book.”

We love a bedtime procedural, and we love a good rhyme and this book is both. Llama llama wants a drink, and he wants his mama back but waiting is HARD. A great story for anyone going through a bedtime delay phase, with a lovely reassuring ending. A real treat that I know will be part of our reading life for years to come.

It's bedtime and a little llama is freaking out. Where could mama llama be? Young readers will enjoy the gentle rhythm of the rhymes as well as the illustrations that capture the wide range of emotions. Young ones and parents alike will enjoy the reassuring tone of this book.
