Matilda Dare can’t sleep. Her insomnia is one more reason to move to the quirky small town of Goodnight, New Mexico, after she inherits a house, a small newspaper, and two old dogs there. But despite the Goodnight name, Matilda still spends hers wide awake, and she has good reason after a reporter is murdered. With a mystery to solve, she begins to investigate the town and uncovers more suspects than she knows what to do with. Meanwhile, the hottie cowboy sheriff is doing his own investigation into Matilda, and the mysterious, handsome stranger, who just happens to live with her, is showing up in all the wrong places. As her investigation continues, danger increases, and it might end up spelling lights out for Matilda.

Die Noon is the first installment in the hilarious, romantic Goodnight Mysteries series and a spinoff of the Matchmaker Mysteries.

Goodnight… Sometimes sweet dreams end in murder.

Absurdist humor. Not my thing (at least, not this type). No rating because it's a personal/mood thing.

Die Noon by Elise Sax is another winner by Ms. Sax. I know that when I sit down to read a book by her that I will enjoy a mystery filled with quirky characters and laugh-out-loud moments that will keep me turning the pages. Gladie and Spencer, who? I'm ready to move to Goodnight, New Mexico.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.

A very fun read. A wide variety of interesting characters that make this a humorous yet a bit over the top funny mystery. The mystery is solved with a surprising solution which seems a bit sudden. What seems to be a background story leaves us with a big cliffhanger. I will be reading the next installment in the series.

Love this new series. A spin-off from the Match Maker series, it has the classic notes of similarity - humour, mystery, kooky people, fun heroine, and two hotties. Add a couple of old dogs and what more could you want for a relaxing, cosy read that leaves you smiling and feeling good? Add to that an undercurrent of more serious proportions with the underlying mystery of a murderer that is obviously going to be the darker theme under the fun that will continue in the books.

This is utterly ridiculous. In a good way. Like, it knows its ridiculous. It's not trying to be anything but ridiculous. The main character has just gotten out of a mental institution after her soon-to-be-ex husband tried to gaslight her and steal her inheritance, before attempting to murder her. But now he's in jail, and she's inherited a house in a crazy small town.

So she decides to become a reporter at the local newspaper. As you do.

And the thing just keeps getting zanier, while also kind of working? I don't know. I was entertained. And that's really all I want right now.

It made me laugh.

Pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this

I went in with fairly low expectations, but found myself really enjoying Matilda, Silas, Klee, Amos, Faye and Co., in what I hope will become a new go-to series for me.

The world building was simple and effective, with the town of Goodnight being a tight knit community full of oddballs and eclectic personalities that add a dash of spice to the mix. Matilda is well nicknamed as Trouble, her well meaning antics make her a catalyst of chaos as nothing ever seems to go right for her, yet she stumbles across all the clues. The relationship between her and the denizens of Goodnight are quick to form, yet make this so much fun.

Definitely going to read the next book asap.

While the story has some unique characters and a good bit of humor.
This book is NOT a cozy and shouldn't be marketed as one.
Yes, there is a decent mystery in it.
But, once you start graphically describing his "excitement", and give a graphic description of the widower man and perpetually divorcing woman who's constantly in heat basically having sex with their clothes on.
NOt to mention the gratuitous profanity.
That has no business being described as a "Cozy"
It's pretty much a straight chick lit.

This was a comical story of a young woman who inherits an newspaper in a small town. Combine the newcomer with the antics of the town's inhabitants, gossip, crazy events in the town and a murder and you have a somewhat lighthearted murder mystery with a bit of romance thrown in. It was a fun, fast moving story but not really all that believable. It does leave you wanting to know more about the characters who live in Goodnight, NM, and wanting to pick up book #2 in this series, maybe.

I don't often read cozy mysteries, but the author is so funny on social media that I had to try one of her books. I wasn't disappointed. This humorous tale, full of wacky characters, was a quick easy read - just what I needed. Is it believable? Nah - but who cares. It's a fun and entertaining read and sometimes that's all I want. Ready for the next one in the series.

A silly mystery with jokes that fell flat. It seems like the author tried too hard for quirky, and her characters didn’t pull that off. The romance wasn’t believable, and the “almost sex scene” felt like it was copied out of a different type of book. I don’t like to quit, and I kept hoping for more, but it was a struggle to finish it.

Probably 2.5. Silly, short, zany. Good afternoon read. Ditzy woman who has a brain but doesn't use it much. Provides a brain cleanse after reading a deep or troubling story.

Die Noon is probably declared a cozy mystery. But, it is so much more-it is a great mystery with lots of twists and turns plus a heap of humor, light romance, far out sci-fi, a touch of fantasy and heart-rending hope for a new start in life. In other words, darn near perfect! I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I purchased this ebook months ago and truly regret not reading it sooner. It’s my first book by Elise Sax but it won’t be the last.

I WOULD HAVE LIKED THIS BETTER IF IT HAD LESS ONE LINERS AND JOKES, AFTER A WHILE IT STARTED TOO REALLY ANNOY ME. I LOVE QUIRKY AND KOOKY CHARACTERS BUT THE JOKES BECAME TOO MUCH (of a good thing). THE MAIN CHARACTER'S INABILITY TO SLEEP REALLY BOTHERED ME AND I LOOKED IT UP. I FOUND THE RECORD NUMBER OF DAYS WITHOUT SLEEP IS A LITTLE OVER 11 DAYS (266hrs) SET IN 1964. INTERESTING. I CAN'T DECIDE BETWEEN AMOS OR BOONE HOPE MATILDA CAN, I'M SORTA LEANING TOWARD AMOS . . . NO BOONE. ;D

Matilda Dare, an insomniac, inherits a house, a newspaper and 2 dogs in Midnight New Mexico. She knew about the house but not the newspaper so when she arrives , it’s staff demands she not close it and she becomes a reporter. When one of her reporters is murdered and another injured in an attempted murder she has to find out who did it. The ending was a bit of a surprise but made sense. With humorous writing, interesting characters and a twisty plot, an enjoyable read.

There are few books I don’t ever finish but if I had to pick my battles this would be it. The character has insomnia but the book reads like a sleep deprived delirium episode. The first chapter was almost exclusively dedicated to D cup sized man boobs like what???

A cozy murder mystery. At some parts it was almost too ridiculously silly, but then the author would throw in a hint of seriousness to keep me reading (and to remember what was happening). At least a recurring character has my last name for a first name. More of a 3.5 than a 4.

Pretty interesting read!

She tied it all up in the end! A surprisingly light hearted finish! But worth the time spent. I’m sure to read more of her novels!

I thought I’d never want to leave Gladie and Cannes, but I’m moving to Goodnight now! Matilda has her hands full with her new life. Amos & Boone are more than happy to help. Elise Sax has done it again. She’s created a new town, new quirky characters, with all new laughs and fun. I can’t get enough!

Die Noon is a first book in Goodnight Mystery series.
We met Matilda Dare for the first time in Matchmaker Mystery series and we all loved her from the first moment. She is an insomniac, she thought she was married to the man of her dreams but it turns out he just wanted to get rid of her.

Matilda has inherited a house, a newspaper and two old dogs in tiny little town of Goodnight. While she is trying to get accustomed to her new life her reporter gets murdered. Swamped with possible suspects she decides to investigate while at the same time she is being investigated by the hot sheriff herself. Then just to make things even spicier there is also a handsome mysterious stranger.

As funny and silly and quirky as Matchmaker series this will be another must read for all Elise Sax's fans and everyone else who enjoys atypical one of the kind cozy mystery.
We are all going to fall in love in the new set of characters and root for Matilda to finally find her man.
Intelligent mystery, dash of romance and lots and lots of small town humor make this book impossible to put down.
My opinion was given voluntarily after reading an ARC copy.

Not your usual cozy mystery. This one has a possible love triangle, aliens, an intergalactic war and giraffes. Matilda comes from the Matchmaker Mystery Series, her husband is a killer and people think she's crazy. Typical small town rumor mill where nothing is accurate but the gossip sticks like flies to honey. Two men are interested in the newcomer, Boone and Amos, and honestly I'm not sure I'd be able to choose if forced. While Matilda solves a murder there's an underlying mystery that will continue to plague her thoughts. This series will be a great addiction for fans of humor, hints of romance, a bit of suspense and a couple old lovable dogs. My review was given voluntarily after reading an early copy.
