Oh my! What a book!

Matthew Wellsbourne appears as a young man in his love story which is entitled "The White Lord of Wellsbourne (the de Russe Legacy)." Gaston de Russe (a personal favorite character and book) appears as a young man in his love story which is entitled "The Dark One: The Dark Knight (de Russe Legacy #2"). Both of their books are entwined as they are best friends and their bond and friendship has a tremendous impact on each others lives. They are both amazing books.

"Dark Moon: The Dark Sons Series Book 1 (de Russe Legacy 6)" involves the children of Matthew and Gaston and their love story. It is a very moving, emotional story involving family honor, lifelong friendships, heart wrenching loss and impossible decisions. Two star-crossed lovers who are wounded souls who finally find love with each other after years of hardship. It is an amazing book and another absolutely winner by Kathryn Le Veque.

Now, I have to go back and re-read (for the umpteenth time) "The White Lord of Wellsbourne" and "The Dark One: The Dark Knight."

Oh my goodness, my emotions were all over the place with this story! My heart ached so much for Trenton and Lysabel, two people who have fallen in love and only want to be together but circumstances prevent it. The story also involves their fathers, Matthew and Gaston, whose friendship is dearly tested.

Lysabel has spent the last 12 years of her life being terribly beaten by her husband and the night Trenton comes to her rescue is the night she is set free. They had known each other as children but now they are adults who have come together in a very unusual way. Unfortunately, Trenton is married to a horrible woman who he has nothing to do with, and it doesn't allow him to marry Lysabel. Her father, Matthew, refuses to allow her to become Trenton's mistress and he also has a problem with Trenton's job as the King's assassin!

I must mention Lysabel's two daughters....such a delight in what is otherwise a very emotional story!!

Another Kathryn Le Veque story which I've thoroughly enjoyed.

This is a story of the crossroads of two individuals, who are drawn together under brutal circumstances. This leads them to come together. A harden Agent of the Crown, Trent de Russe, who realizes while on a clandestine assignment for the King that the woman's screams he and his men had heard in the middle of a Dark Moon night are from the daughter of his father's best friend. Being one of the most feared men of England, he normally would set out and accomplish the assigned task and return to retrieve orders for the next assignment, but not in this case... when he is stunned to see a childhood lass who needs his help...Lysabel Wellesbourne, the daughter of the White Lord of Wellesbourne. His father The Dark One, Gaston de Russe and Matthew Wellesbourne are practically brothers. How can he not help! What Trenton does not expect is for his cold heart to commence cracking wide open to feelings he has never experienced before. Lysabel and her two beautiful small daughters start doing this to him without any effort whatsoever.

Lady Lysabel Wellesbourne de Wilde, has endured horrific things the last 12 years. To her enormous surprise and embarrassment this Knight witnesses her secret shame. To her astonishment, Trenton de Russe is no longer the older lad by eight years she remembered from her childhood. He is an enormously tall and handsome knight. The man her father has considered a son and has loved his entire life.

This story allows us to witness the trials and tribulations of these two strong characters. In the case of this grasping story, there are more than just these two strong individuals. We have the entire De Russe and Wellesbourne family members who all demonstrate their strengths of family ties and loyalties between one another. But in this case, they could also be severed permanently. How can love mend and tear apart so painfully? The bonds of family, friendship, love and brotherhood are tested to their limits in this fabulous story.

A keeper for me!

I read this from start to finish in one day, and it's one of the most beautifully-written books I've read this year.

Dark Moon is a story anchored by love, relationships and family, featuring Trenton de Russe, Gaston de Russe's (The Dark One: Dark Knight) first-born. I remembered reading Dark Knight, feeling so much pity at the way Trenton was treated - like a ball that was just pushed around by the emotions of his father, whether in anger at Trenton's mother or in love with another woman.

And in this book, we see how his neglected childhood, always unsure of his father's love for him, has impacted his life. At the start of the book, we learn that Trenton has not spoken to his father in years, partly due to their strained relationship since he was a young boy, partly due to decisions his father forced him into as an adult and also, his role as an assassin for the king. A testament to the author's writing is that you can literally feel his pain, his sadness, and also his love when he finally falls for the lovely Lysabel Wellesbourne.

What I enjoyed wasn't just the love story between Trenton and Lysabel - the intensity of that love got me tearing several times throughout - but also the relationships intertwined throughout the book - Trenton and his father, Gaston and Matthew Wellesbourne and the closeness between both families. The two sides of the coin - love and pain - are detailed throughout the book, in decisions made, in hurt, in anger and ultimately, in sacrifice.

Easily, one of my favorite Kathryn Le Veque books.

Trenton and Lysabel

My dry spell has been broken! What a marvelous love story. The theme of this novel should be love. We saw it illustrated in so many forms. The love of two lifelong friends (Matthew and Gaston). The love between fathers and sons (the de Russe men). The love between husbands and wives where communication is so powerful that words are unnecessary (Gaston/Remington and Matthew/Alixandrea). The love between brothers (Trenton and Dane) whether related by blood or not. A woman’s love for a child not of her body but of her heart (Trenton and Remington). The love of children so pure in their innocence (Brencis).

This book uplifted me in so many ways. It was a joy to read. Trenton deRusse really had a hard time of it. I was rooting for him all along his journey. Lysabel de Wilde was an awesome match for him. Cissy was so full of love. She captured my heart and held on to it from her first appearance. Matthew Wellsbourne was admirable in his unfailing pursuit to do the right thing. Very much true to character.

Now I am chomping at the bit to read Dane’s story. His impetuosity was infectious. I can’t wait to follow the journey LeVeque takes him on. Undoubtedly, it will be wonderful.

Trenton de Russe bears the dark legacy where the de Russe is both hated and revered in England. Trenton’s duty to carry out the king’s command in which he does without question. On one of these missions he encounter an old childhood friend, Lysabel Wellesbourne, being beaten by her husband, Trenton’s intended target. Trenton returns to Lysabel and offers his support and offers to take her to her father, Matthew Wellesbourne home. Matthew and Trenton’s father Gaston de Russe have been best friends for a very long time. Lysabel and Trenton fall in love, but there are a few things stands in their way, one being Trenton is already married to a woman his father forced him to wed who hates him. The other is her father. Lys is a widow with two young children, she wants to grasp life before it slips away and Trenton has finally find a woman and a life with a woman he loves he can’t live without, theirs is a heart breaking story with intrigue, twist and turns as everyone is trying to what’s best for them and their families. I laughed, cried and cheered as I read this deeply touching story of a new love found and friendships nearly tested beyond their endurance. After all what’s more important than family, friends and the loyalty of both. It was great to see both Gaston and Matthew and their families in this emotional roller coaster of a book. Two old friends struggle with ones health as each man looks at his mortality and imminent death as old friends deal with these emotions as well. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Honor, love or both

Trenton and Lysbeth's story was so entriquing as you start to meet them seeing how in that time that wives are treated anyway they are by their husband and that no one family friends or foe can't do anything to stop them,
Then as you start getting into the story as only Kathryn le Veques, tells them you can't help but keep reading and reading. Then as you start to see the love that is growing the possibility of it being just hero worship or just thinking they love each other you start having tears coming or grins slowly coming in the emotions that each character brings.
You have basically an assassin for the king, taking out a sheriff but in the process ta lady is being beaten what to do do when you see she's someone you know...
Then you have a lady that has been getting abused, her children being terrorized finally being free...
Two adorable girls that should be happy, running around playing being loved and cared for by both parents but one that is pure evil...
Then as Kathryn brings two well known friends and knights together who love each other, their families and the love of a son ( who's married to an evil woman ) the other's (daughter widowed) wanting to be together anyway...without marriage. ..what is a parent to do???
You bring brother's who love their older brother so much that they'd do anything for him...
In Dark Moon, Kathryn has done as she always has... brings you on an emotional roll at coaster of mystery, hate, saddness, truth, and reflections (among the character's ) to everlasting love...
Thank you Kathryn le Veques for always always writing wonderful stories

Kathryn Le Veque writes buckets of medieval novels, but she keeps them fresh somehow. This has all the good stuff from previous novels (grimy medieval life, family fights, square jawed knights), but there are entertaining new elements - such as two little girls and their ponies.

When Trenton de Russe realises childhood friend Lysabel has been beaten by her husband, he metes out rough justice. This starts a journey for both of them where they are attracted but Trenton is on wife number three. Naturally Lysabel’s father has reservations about Trenton’s interest in Lysabel and does his best to protect his child. Lysabel has two daughters that Trenton also feels protective about so he spoils them with gifts. Anyone who has thought it a great idea to give a child a pet will laugh at the entertaining mess of mixing small children and animals.

Despite some heavy moments ‘Dark Moon’ is often light hearted, with children and young knights playing up and teasing each other. Fans of previous books will recognise Trenton and Lisabel’s fathers. Best friends Gaston de Russe and Matthew Wellesbourne are now older and wrestling with the anxieties of having adult children. While the author doesn’t idealise these former heroes, she gives a lovely insight into the emotional richness of old age. But if you think KleV has gone all soft, watch out for a fateful meeting with Trenton’s wife. Urk.

At the book’s centre are star crossed lovers whose longing for better lives will break your heart. While you hope things will work out, you are never quite sure. Like most of this authors books, it’s an edge of your seat experience in action packed medieval England. Highly recommended.

There are no words to describe this tale adequately. WOW, was my first thought when I got the last page. I knew by Chapter 3 that Trenton de Russe was going to be a new all time favorite, and boy is that an understatement. What an endearing, strong, passionate hero. Our heroin, was no less than he. Lys is a heroin that most women can relate to in one sense or another, strong, loving, protective and compassionate even tho life has give her many reasons to be none of those things. Our hero is much the same, battered past with every reason to bitter about his personal life even tho he comes from a loving family.
This story tore at my heart strings for so many reasons. For you to be able to feel the emotions, raw, exciting, anguish, joy in the pages of our hero's story is incredibly talented writing on Le Veques part. It is one of the many reasons her novels are so successful, you become invested in the characters.
My only slight on this book was there wasn't more!!! I wanted more scenes like the first night a Wellsbourne, I wanted the epilogue to give more. In all this pair make you want more.
The story is heavy with appearances by characters from the past, Gaston, Matthew, Dane....it makes the story all the more touching and emotional.
Though you do not have to read, The White Lord of Wellsbourne or The Dark One first, I highly recommend it.
This tale enraptures you in a way that leaves you in awe and bit bereft at the end. You don't really want it to be over. Trenton deRusse, is by far, an all time fav!!!
Highly recommend this story!!!

Absolutely wonderful!

This is an amazing story about a man who isn’t perfect, named Trenton de Russe. His past is littered with relationships and women who have either died, or should have, and his choices have always been a bit on the dark side. While carrying out an order for his king, he and his cohorts come upon and rescue a woman, Lady Lysabel de Wilde. Trenton, who isn’t known for being a man of deep emotion or attachment, realizes that Lysabel was once a girl from his youth, and that their families, especially their fathers, are especially close friends. For some reason though, maybe his memories, or her beauty, Trenton becomes enthralled with Lysabell.
Unfortunately, this begins an entirely new set of problems for both Trenton and Lysabel, who returns his feelings. Not everyone feels that they should act upon their feelings for each other and the odds are against them. Their burgeoning love places a wedge between their families and they must decide how to go on, before those choices are taken from them.
This was a fantastic book that I couldn’t put down! It was filled with intrigue, drama, longing, and heat. It had moments of humor, and wonderful characters that brought an hea that left me smiling. I highly recommend it.

Disappointing

Full disclosure, I hate impossible love, it’s not my thing, it makes me nervous and it messes with my head. So yeah, this wasn’t my cup of tea.

However, when I read Gaston and Remington’s story, which was also impossible love, I loved it. It was one of my favorite KL books ever, it was so good that the impossible factor didn’t even factor for me.

Here the whole impossible love overpowered the story, it was about that and ONLY that, everything that happened was in service of highlighting that their love was impossible.

It got old.
It got boring.
It got monotonous.

I GET IT, everything was very complicated, but the situation was very exaggerated, an annulment wasn’t even considered when it was the most obvious device to free Trenton, in Gaston’s book he annulment WAS the objective, here it wasn’t even a consideration, it was as if the author wanted to oversell how dire the situation was.

I don’t know, the final chapters gave me whiplash (in a bad way) and the prologue sucked.

I was very dissatisfied with this book, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars, honestly, it’s Kathryn Leveque, so the stars are in relation to her other works, because when an author is an auto-buy they get their own rating system.

Kathryn Le Veque never ceases to amaze me! I have loved all of her books I have read or listened to and she still tops the last one every time. This is definitely one of my newest favorites! If she keeps this up, I’ll need to buy stock in the Kleenex Company. Not only are her storylines new and different each time, but her characters have such an amount of depth to them that we get to see all sides of their personalities! Thank goodness I finally sobbed my way through to a wonderful, unexpected ending. All I can say is that Kathryn Le Veque has an astonishing imagination and a gift for bringing the reader right into the story. Trenton and Lysabel’s story was a rocky, emotional filled journey filled with a view of faults, vulnerabilities, hope, dreams and betrayal. I don’t see how anyone could read this book and not love it and re able to relate to various points &/or problems they come across in their own lives at one time or another. Kathryn Le Veque has outdone herself again! There is no wonder why she is such a successful and gifted writer. I have more on preorder and can’t wait to read them!

This book is so moving in so many ways .
Trenton DeRusse has never really known unconditional love , when he has known love it’s been taken from him , so his reactions to ,Brencis , Lysabels 6 year old daughter is really telling and moving . He’s stunned by her reactions to people and horses . She loves so freely and he’s never come across that before , I so loved the first scene of Brencis , him and Snowdrop , it left my with a tight chest and a lump in my throat .
The author has moved me in the beauty of her writing and the further I get in to the book the more emotional the story becomes.
It’s a stunning and wonderfully emotional book that at times has you convinced it can’t get any better than this , but it does , so much better so much more revealing of the characters , and their wishes , emotions and reactions .
I’ve been floored by this book , and really hope if your reading this , looking for a reason to read it , that it gives you the push you need .
Very Highly Recommended!

This is one of the most emotionally heart rending stories of Kathryn's that I have read. It is filled with wonderful conversation that is so engaging and romantic. Trenton and Lysabel, life long friends who are thrown together in harrowing circumstances begin this troubled tale. Shadowed by ghosts and demons of the past, solitary, stoic and handsome Trenton de Russe has never known love and the beautiful, damaged and unloved Lysabel Wellesbourne find themselves caught by the honour of their families and the love they have for each other. But it is Kathryn's ability as a true wordsmith, that allows this book to come to life. The conversations between Trenton and Lysabel and their families are so wonderfully emotional that they pull at your heart strings and the inter-connected relationship between the de Russe and the Wellesbourne men is just poetry in motion! The special and close friendship between Gaston and Matthew, Dane, Cort, William and Trenton is magical. Also as usual Kathryn shows how women were treated and how cruel this time in history was. What a wonderful book.

I laughed out loud, I cried, at times I just wanted to shake Trenton and just throttle Matthew Wellesbourne! This is not only a love story between Trenton and Lysabel, it is a story of two great family’s and friendship and love of family. This story definitely touched my heart! Yes this is a must read.

Wait. I have to grab a tissue....

I have read many of Kathryn LeVeque's books and intend eventually to read them all. Where some authors fall into the rut of writing many books with similar themes, just changing the characters, she always manages to bring not only new characters into each story, she also always brings an entirely new theme to each.

In "Dark Moon," Trenton deRusse saves Lysabel Wellesbourne's life, not realizing at the time she was an old friend from their childhood. Following the death of her then husband, Trenton and Lysabel fall in love. Little does Lysabel know that Trenton is already married to a shrew he hasn't ever lived with and who despises Trenton and the deRusse name.

In spite of the obstacles they face, including an intransigent father in Mathew Wellesbourne, the lovers forge on and eventually are able to achieve their HEA. You're going to have to read the book to fill in the blanks. Highly recommended.

Steadfast Love

Another great book by Kathryn Le Veque!! I love reading about the different families that she has written about!
Two men who are best friends and have been for years are facing a dilemma in regards to their first born children. Gaston de Russe son Trenton and Sir Matthew Wellesbourne’s daughter Lysabel.
Trenton was sent on a misson by King Henry VIII to bring in a man by the name of Benoit de Wilde. He finds de Wilde beating his wife who is Lysabel Wellesbournes de Wilde.
Trenton takes care of him that night.
When Trenton is with Lysabel and her two girls he is a different
man.
If you don’t read this book you are missing out on a great story!
Another five star rating!!!!

What if the children of Gaston de Russe and Matthew Wellesborne meet and decide to marry. What if one of their fathers is not in favor of this union? You have the romance of Trenton and Lysabel. Trenton is sent by the King to take custody of a man-who just happens to be Lysabel's husband. The opening of the book is fast paced, but sets the stage for one of the best love story's of the year. When Trenton falls in love, he falls so very hard and doesn't seem to have been told no very often. Lysabel has been manipulated and told what to do and when for so long, when finally free, she wants what the heart wants. Unfortunately for the lovers, there is not a quick solution.

If you read one Medieval Romance this year-this is the one.

Trenton de Russe is an assassin for King Henry VIII, and his reputation makes most people fear him. If he was really as bad as they thought, he could have easily solved his problem. His King would probably not have raised an eyebrow over it. He is however a proud, honourable and sometimes lonely man.
Abused wife Lady Lysabel de Wilde should not really be so happy with the turn her life has taken, but she can at last live without fear. She and her daughters needed a hero and one found them.
Another fabulously emotional story from our talented author. The families we have all grown to love have more than their share of turmoil. Being honourable is sometimes nearly impossible.
I loved every page and am now going to wait ( very impatiently) for the next one.

What a story from Kathryn LeVeque. This is a gripping tale of Trenton de Russe as he discovers that his life is not as hopeless as it seems to him. On a mission, from Henry VIII: he and his band of assassins save the beaten wife of the man they came to claim for Henry. After completing the job, Trenton realizes that the women is a friend of his family and he had been her fathers squire. He feels that she need protection and should be taken back to her father. He leaves Henry for some time off and finds that his world is changing and their are choices he needs to make. The most enticing part of the travel home, is the two little daughters of Lysbeth; and the discovery that they need ponies, that Trenton provides, to continue on with their journey. What a wonderful story this is.

Good but a little disappointing

If you've read The Dark One and The White Lord, Gaston and Matthew were great heroes in their own books. However, in this sequel I didnt like them at all. Matthew was judgemental and underhanded with his daughter. He was going to make his newly widowed pregnant daughter who had been beaten repeatedly for 10 years remarry immediately just to keep her away from the H, Trenton. Gaston was weak when it came to standing up for his son against Matthew's slander about Trenton's integrity and honor. If it wasn't for the other secondary characters this book would have been unenjoyable. This was not one of my favorite books in this series.

Overall, kurang puas. Need more action

Le Veque is always a great read

I can always count on Kathryn Le Veque for an engaging story with rich historical background and the most amazing families. I love the emotion that comes with her relatable story lines and the depth of feeling it evokes in me. Katheryn Le Veque has a pen with power that gives us all of this and more. Typically I am a huge fan of all of Leveque’s books. This one was just alright. I enjoyed Gaston’s story but not Trenton’s. The plots were too similar. I think she could have come up with something better for the Dark One’s Son. And why do these women have to have so many kids. She was like 32 when they married. I did the the h. Trenton was a little to Whiny for me. I skimmed the last chapter. Her other legacy books are way better.
