Mia was not surprised to find herself crawling out of a lake in the middle of the night. She'd been sleepwalking a lot lately, and although it just started, she was by no means a stranger to new things.
It'd been four months since Mia woke up with no memory—no recollection of any of the 24-years of her life. She didn't remember getting married, or even moving to the small town of Cooper Creek. But what bothered her the most was not knowing why she kept having the same recurring nightmare about the Chinese tattoo on her ring finger.
When Mia discovered how to trigger back her memories, she was taken aback by the fact that her past didn't match her current life. When Mia experienced a trigger so intense that she had a seizure, she learned that any further triggers could cause permanent damage to her brain.
On the edge of her doubts, will she risk her mental stability to find out the truth about her past?

What if you had lost all of your memories? Mia woke up one day with no memories of her past, her life torn from her. What happened? Were the dreams and nightmares she endured the missing pieces of her life? What of the people around her? Is she really married? Why can’t she remember the man at her side? Why does she keep waking up in strange places? Why? Why? Why? Who can she trust?
DISARRAY by Jessie Cal is suspense and mystery at its best! Sort through the myriad of clues, events and unknowns along with Mia. This author has created a mind boggling tale of the unknown as page after page left field events come roaring together into an ending that hits with the intensity of a tsunami!
Great reading, great writing! A cast of characters who may or may not be who they seem, just when you think you have figured out, BAM! Who is/was Mia?
I received a complimentary copy from Jessie Cal! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Any story that starts with amnesia piques my interest. Buckle up because this story has so many twists and turns you will be dizzy! It’s like riding the world’s best roller coaster. The questions keep piling up without any answers in sight. Add to that mix the unending secrets. And who does, Mia, the main character, trust? Which guy is the “good guy,” if there is one? If you’re a fan of thriller suspense books, you will not be disappointed. Now, on to book two in the series!
How do you cope when you have no memory of your past but you think your dreams are actually memories. This is the situation Mia finds herself in. This book is filled with suspense, just when you think you have it figured out everything changes, and then the ending leaves you completely confused and dying for book 2. I loved this book it has lots of emotion and plot twists, the characters are great and you are left just wanting more.
This is an awesome page turner! And just when you think you know, everything changes! It had me hooked until the very end. Yeah, it ends in a cliffhanger, but after reading book two, I could see why there was NO WAY she could have ended book one any other way. Besides, book two is FREE on amazon so it didn't frustrated me because I could start on book two right away :P
OH. MY. GOODNESS! I cannot even describe how I am feeling after reading this book but one thing is for sure: it had wrapped me in its arms in such a manner that I couldn't put my mind to anything else! The suspense, the thrill - WOW! And the string between characters and their relationship with each other was just awesome! I was actually gripped into it like maniac. And the whole connection to Neuro Science made it even more endearing 😍😍
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book as I didn't read the blurb about it and had only read one other short novella by this author. This story is different, unique and intriguing and will keep you reading faster and faster to figure out where it is going. I like suspense and after reading a few sweet romances, I like to go to a good suspense. Well-done Jessie Cal! I am definitely going on to the remainder of the series. Keep us guessing.
This is the first book in a Series and I definitely want to read the next book! It is a quick read. There were a few events I questioned in the book as I read them, but it all came together as I kept reading. If you are looking for a series to read this summer, this might be one to consider. This review will be difficult to write without giving too much away...~Janell
Disarray – Main Characters-Mia, Hugh (husband), Ethan (shows up many unexpected places), Sophia (best friend/employer)
Mia keeps waking up in strange places…she is struggling with nightmares ever since her accident 4 months ago that caused retrograde amnesia. This time, her husband finds her in a cemetery. Hugh, a Police Officer, has been very patient with her but is showing signs of being exhausted, as he continues to care for her and worry about her.
Mia is trying to get her life back to normal, despite all she has lost. She is working for her friend, Sophia Hemsworth, who is a fashion designer. She feels awkward at work, though, as she knows that everyone is talking about her situation, but no one talks to her about it. She’s heard them talking about her when they think she can’t hear them. She knows she can count on Sophia, though, to be her friend.
Mia is in counseling and has been seeing Dr. Jin. She is surprised when she arrives for her counseling session and finds out that Dr. Jin has been transferred and she will be seeing a new Counselor, Dr. Greene. She thinks she will be comfortable with Dr. Greene, as she is a woman, too, and around the same age as Mia. Mia shares with Dr. Greene that her nightmares are feeling more like memories to her. She tells her, “It’s always the same nightmare. The same forest, the same symbols, the same fire. I mean, it has to mean something, right?” Mia feels that the dreams she keeps having must be a link to her past, which she is longing to remember! Dr. Greene gives Mia an assignment. It is to focus more on reality and the people in her life, rather than focusing on her dreams. Mia agrees to try.
Ethan is a person that is in many different parts of the book, and is someone Mia feels is a friend and someone she can rely on. But can she? Why does Mia feel that the past she is beginning to remember doesn’t match with her current life?
A few teasers for when you read the book…!
-The glowing tattoo’s on Mia’s finger, what do they mean?
-Husband/Police Officer Hugh-what is his job…really?
-Can Mia trust the people she thinks she can trust?
-How can she tell her dreams from reality?
-Why does Hugh want her to be focused more on her future than her past?
-The memory triggers, the seizures, the pain-is it worth is for Mia to know her past?
What a pleasant surprise this book was - I didn’t have any expectations as I received this book free from a Bookfunnel giveaway of clean mysteries. But once I started, I couldn’t put it down!
Jessie Cal knows her craft. She put many clues in the story of fascinating characters doing and saying all sorts of quirky thinks.
So many facts and characters can still be fleshed out. Cleverly, the next in the series is the backstory, so you are not left with a cliffhanger
Right off I was hooked. The character wake up not knowing she was married. She keeps having nightmares that seem so real. Little hints keep coming forward but then it ends. Cliffhanger now to book 2
Well hells bells if that aint about a twisted tale. This author had a lot going on and yeah for a minute I was absolutely thoroughly lost. But, yes there is a but, it wasn't the bad kinda lost it was a what in the hell is this author doing kinda lost, which is totally alright. This author has some great characters and awesome twist going on throughout the story. Each time pieces are revealed you find yourself saying okay that works now where to from here. She also loves leading you down false paths so watch out for the traps. Yes there is a cliff hanger but thank goodness the rest of the series is out and I won't have to suffer for long. A great clean read that will definitely have you pouring a drink and slamming it. I am new to this author and I love her style I will see if the rest of the series keeps me on edge like the first one did.
"Memories Lost" is an absolute masterpiece of a novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very first page to the very last. The story is gripping, intense, and filled with twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end. The character development is fantastic, especially when it comes to Mia, the protagonist, who is strong, determined, and resilient, despite the challenges she faces.
The plot is brilliantly crafted, and the way the author unravels the mystery surrounding Mia's past is nothing short of genius. The pace is perfect, and the tension builds up gradually, keeping you hooked until the very end. The writing style is elegant, the descriptions are vivid, and the dialogues are engaging and realistic.
Overall, "Memories Lost" is a fantastic novel that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery with lots of twists and turns. Jessie Cal has done an excellent job with this book, and I can't wait to read more from this talented author. Five stars all the way!
Oh. My. Goodness! The suspense is incredible! The plot and storyline is simply fantastic! I wish I could rate it much higher than 5 stars because it deserves it. Mia has lost her memory, but as each flash of memory becomes a piece to Mia's disturbing puzzle, she pushes herself to the limit, risking everything in order to find out the truth. What really happened to her memory? And why is she living a life she never built? The sleepwalking episodes had me on the edge of my seat. It kept turning page after page. I could not put this book down until the very last page! Even then, I bought the next two books right away. It was the best romantic suspense series I've read in a long time. Jessie truly knows how to captivate her readers with plot-twists you will NEVER see coming!
Mia suffers from amnesia since an auto accident. She doesn’t remember anything, even her husband Hugh. But most disturbing to her is the constant dreams that feel like memories. Fast and exciting read that never lets up from the beginning.
This was really good. The plot itself was really good and I really loved the characters. The author did a great job of confusing the heck out of me. I was all set to dislike a theme of what I thought was people cheating on others, when Hugh cleared up everything. It was borderline inappropriate. There was nothing descriptive, but there were several references. Over all, it was just an amazing suspenseful read.
One can’t help feeling for Mia, being confused, lonely, in her plight to find her memories, A husband, saying to forget the past, concentrate on the future. The dreams won’t let her, the glowing tattoo. Saying they were memories she was able to cope. Her husband hasn’t had a good sleep since, with her sleep walking, and where it would take her. A good plot that lets you in , of how desperate life is for her. What was done by Hugh, he could have ruined his life
This was a very intriguing story. You feel for Mia who's trying to find out why everyone is lying to her about her memory loss, but most importantly, you keep reading to find out...what are they hiding? And what is it they don't want her to remember? Great read! I got an ARC copy from reading cave and I'm leaving an honest review.
I loved the story but hate the cliffhanger! If it ended with knowing that she was safe then it would be better. Oh who am I kidding? I just want all loose ends tied and dyed and wrapped in a nice bow ! So I’ll just have to read part 2 now.
This book was very hard to understand till the pieces came together, then i was able to see the biggest picture. In the end i was crying for her lose then i was angry as to why ? On to book 2
I started with this one but it is very confusing all way through. It has so many twists & turns. Hard to keep track of who’s good & who’s not. Also hard to fathom that mind control could really occur. Now days anything is possible I guess. Now on to book2 to get the background on Mia’s life.
Somewhat spoiler filled review, proceed with caution.
So this book was so confusing the first time I'd read it. It felt like a fever dream with everything all over the place and the characters doing whatever they wanted with no point. When I got to the end, everything came together but not in the way I'd expected. I mean, there were answers but something still felt missing.
Some errors in the book threw me off a little but I'm able to overlook that once the story is good.
About the reread:
I reread because I wanted to see if it still made sense after knowing how everything played out. And I guess a book has to be compelling for you to reread it so close after finishing and it was...
But I think that some of the plot points could've been removed. Like her being a Street racer, I didn't see how that correlated to the bigger picture after the initial chapters made it seem like such a big deal. Or even the parts about Ethan. I'm not sure how a hallucination can make a drink, or slam into her to stop her from running away. I wish this was explored a little more. Instead of Mia just saying oh okay, I'm going crazy.
And finally, I may be completely and utterly alone in this, but after all the inner monologues of the longing Mia felt for Hugh, it's going to just end with him going back to his ex? Idk something about that seems a little off. I mean, I loved Ethan but the entire Hugh premise seemed a little rushed.
If Ethan makes a sudden reappearance in book II then I guess but otherwise, not feeling the relationship between those two.
But! As I mentioned before I can't tell the last time I've read a book and reread it shortly after so that should count for something.
I enjoyed both read of this, even the parts that felt like a fever dream.
A woman lost and confused. Another sleepwalking episode. But the episodes didn’t bring just dreams—it brought memories from before her car accident.
Ever since that accident, Mia has lost it all. In fact, she doesn’t even know her own husband. For months, she has suffered from this amnesia, struggling to get some semblance of her life back. But the dreams keep coming to her. What does the tattoo on her finger symbolize? What do the Chinese characters mean? What are the dreams telling her?
Her husband wants her to forget about the past and focus on their future, but Mia will not stop. It quickly becomes a tale of a woman’s desperate hunt for the memories she lost. She aims to remember it all, even if it kills her.
Well-written and mysterious. Readers will question everyone’s motives behind wanting to keep Mia’s memories a secret. The whole military angle was slightly off-putting, making you wonder how it all ties in. The entire thing was disconcerting, but oddly compelling. Each seizure that Mia experienced gave her a memory surge, bringing her closer and closer to the truth. Strangers appear. Secrets are revealed. She gets closer and closer to the truth. Will the secrets shatter her world?
Story was just so full of twists and surprises—surprises that made you go, “WHOA, didn’t see that coming.” You just have to read it to believe it.
4.5. This was a mystery suspense, with a little romance thrown in. Mia has lost her memories. She doesn’t remember her husband, Hugh. She doesn’t remember her best friend. Nothing from the past, before her accident. She keeps having sleepwalking episodes and weird dreams that are driving her crazy. She feels she is on the cusp of remembering things, but then her husband and therapist tell her she could cause permanent brain damage if she keeps forcing things. But when she meets Ethan, he makes her remember things. Things from her past. Or maybe they’re made up things from an imaginary past her brain has created. She doesn’t know, but she does come to know that her husband isn’t telling her everything. Neither is her therapist. They won’t tell her the truth. This was a pretty riveting, psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. The only thing I didn’t like was the cliff-hanger ending. Those are my pet peeves and I automatically knock a book down for them because I hate them so much. But it was a strong story with great characters otherwise and a riveting plot
A fantastic romantic mystery filled with extraordinary surprises!
Book 1 - Memories Lost (AKA Book 1 – Disarray): Mia, Hugh, Ethan, and Sophia are wonderful characters woven into an engaging and entertaining story of mystery and romance.
It is so hard to leave a review for a really great story without sharing any spoilers. First, I want to say that I respect an author that has a developed vocabulary and does not litter the book with foul and abusive language. Jessie Cal is a new author to me that I added to my favorite author’s list.
So, let me share what I liked about this book in general terms: a suspenseful and thrilling story, an abundance of mysterious romantic connections, a clean drama filled with intriguing and unexpected surprises, a book that is hard to put down-even to sleep.

I wanted to love love love this book, but sometimes I found myself skimming. The mystery wasn't quite paced properly to keep my interest. I usually read books in one or two sittings, but it took me about six to finish this. I did want to finish because the premise was intriguing. I won't be reading book two. Nothing really was *wrong* with this book. It just didn't thrill me.
5 stars = the book was fantastic and made me laugh out loud/cry. 4 stars = the book was awesome. No complaints. 3 stars = the book was great, but there was just something off about it. 2 stars = the book was pretty bad, although it had some redeeming qualities. 1 star = the book was awful and should be kindling for a fire.
From the first sentence to the last, I could not put down Disarray by J. Cal. This action-packed book is so fast paced that I ate it up within a couple of hours. The author made the four main characters Mia, Hugh, Ethan and Sophia so totally likeable and believable that I easily became totally invested in them. What I really enjoyed about this story is that nothing ever turned out to be how it first appeared and each new page contained real surprises. Plus, happily for me, it is an amazingly clean read. If you enjoy mysteries, this is a really good one. And if you hate it when a good story ends, luckily this is just Book 1 of the Disarray Trilogy.
