This is poorly illustrated and written. I adore crass and vulgar things, but...not this. The jokes were over the top, crude, and honestly - you can tell the main character was written by a man for men. Perdy and her daughter are memes of what real women are like, and the message conveyed to readers is that women are constantly fighting with each other over men or money, and are overall shallow beings. Perdy literally rapes a man in this graphic novel. The men are portrayed as love-sick swine who kill to be the top man in a woman's eyes. I do not recommend.

Perdy's done hard time in prison but it doesn't take long to get back in the saddle (...and the sack) while searching for her daughter and another bank to rob in this Western. Perdy is a fun, filthy, and entertaining mature graphic novel with a badass female lead that will leave ladies of polite society clutching their pearls.

After some thought one month later: I am lowering my initial 2 star review to 1 star because of the deeply harmful messages in this volume.

Initial Review
Why I Recommend Bumping This DOWN On Your TBR:
✵ Perdy and Rose are sexualized as objects for the male gaze both in terms of how they're drawn/framed and how their personalities and motivations are crafted by the author.
✵ There is a scene during which they actually fight over a man.
✵ The townspeople in general are unbelievable in how their lives seem to revolve around Rose.
✵ This was mostly an introduction, so the plot is only just being set up in this volume.

Why You Might Bump This Up On Your TBR:
✵ Even though they're written specifically for men to like them, they do end up being generally likable?
✵ Even though it's wildly unhealthy, their relationship is not totally unbelievable.
✵ It was easy to read.

I received an ARC copy of this book from Edelweiss

This is probably more of a 3.5 rounded up but overall it was a pretty funny and unique story and I did have a lot of fun reading it so I feel like 4 stars is a fair rating. I'm not wild about the artwork [it's a bit too cartoony for my personal tastes] but it grew on me as I went along and it does fit with the often lewd mood of the book. Perdy is definitely not the kind of wild-west character we usually see and I liked that she wasn't afraid to be herself and didn't waste time worrying about appearing 'ladylike'. [Also the huge-boobs-struggle is so real. #Relatable lol]

Perdy is a brassy, big-breasted woman who uses that natural endowment to get her way in the Old West. There's kind of a plot involving Perdy finding her daughter so that they can...find treasure maybe? Really, the whole book is just an excuse for Kickliy to crack a bunch of porn-lite jokes about big boobs and sex. It is gross.

Unless you're looking for that kind of thing, in which case, I guess it's a solid achievement? Not for me, though.

Quite possibly the only character of it's kind to be a protagonist. This is not for everyone because it is so odd but holy wow was it for me and it might be for you.

For adults, but still so cool - I recommend it !

I've been a fan of Kickliy's work for over a decade and it's been fun and rewarding to watch him grow as a cartoonist and storyteller. Perdy is a very naughty Western with great characters, intriguing mysteries, a bawdy sense of humor, and - most of all - a gorgeous visual style. As the Volume 1 suggests, it's not a complete story, but it's a satisfying read and I can't wait for the next installment.

Perdy isn't winning any awards for positive female representation here, but it is what it says it will be: a bawdy romp of fightin', fuckin', and flowers. The lettering is horrific but I still enjoyed reading this, so 4 stars.

I respect the loose art style and the monochromatic coloring that went into this mature graphic novel, but I couldn’t get past the crass and filthy humor. I realize the tag line was “Flowers. Sex. Robbery.” but the dead horses, constant F-bombs, nudity, and insensitive vulgarities just weren’t funny. No second volume for me.

This was written with so much short-sighted misogyny it even became a craft issue, constantly dragging down the plot and driving the story in pointless directions. Not recommended.

Had I been able to open the pages of this one in the shop I might have passed, but it was sealed and for good reason. It is sold on "sex" but what you really get is rape played for laughs, an omnipresent creepy male gaze, sex with an intoxicated woman who falls asleep (hey rape #2!), and a little bit of racism thrown in for good measure.

The vulgarity of the titular character seemingly only exists to make the book seem "edgy." This reads like the author has never actually met a woman in his life and just had a boner thinking about speaking to one the entire time he was writing this. I do not know who the mysterious "Kickliy" is but I'm gonna guess it's a bearded white dude. (This writing just reeks of bearded white dude.)

I was excited about the western setting, and the bawdy character I was promised, but this just missed the mark so hard, I don't know what to say. I generally love adult comics but this was just cringe-worthy throughout. If I wasn't able to read it in its entirety while my laundry was in I might not have picked it back up again for a second sitting.

You would do better to read something like Sex Criminals or Bitch Planet if you want to tap into the sexy side of Image, because this one was an uncomfortable race to the last page. If only I'd left that shrink wrap on.

This book was Perdy fun!

Picked up the first volume of perdy because the tag line read “booze, sex, and fighting”. And that’s pretty much it. It follows this badass cowgirl (cow woman?)Around as she tries to get her life together after just getting out of jail. It’s pretty fun and has a nice set up to it. But that’s all this book feels like, is a set up. You get a little back story, and a hint at what comes next but I’m not too sure where they’re gonna go with it. For as big as this book is I was hoping for a little more from it. Excited for the next one though!

I picked this up to read after seeing a staff recommendation for it. The rough artistic style wasn't very appealing to me, nor was the plot. (I like crass humor in small doses, but this was ridiculous.) I laughed out loud a couple of times at Perdy's way of maneuvering through life using her sexuality, but I don't think the overall message is a good one to impart to readers.

Buy this for a book that revels in cartoonish ribaldry and revelry. A big-haired, big-chested, big-appetited dame leaves prison to the regret of everyone inside, to find a few things she needs for her next criminal job, and to get back in touch with the daughter she wants to join her on it. Daughter is meekly selling flowers to an entire town of suitors, none of whom have any luck in persuading her they're worth her time, until… This exudes comic strip tropes left, right and centre – note the multiple sound FX littering the pages, the swooshes of motion and the balloons of farts, and the prudish way it hides the dame's bazoomas when she's in the bath only to give us more than a snatch of everything just frames later. Yes, this is childish but also very mature at the same time, and I really liked it for that. I liked it for the balance of quirk being on the sensible side – quirk not just because they thought they could get away with it, but logical quirk; I liked it for the reduced palette of the art – I just liked it. Strong and engaging women characters like these deserve to let rip on the comics page, and I can easily see that happening in future books. This was a really entertaining part one.

Thanks again to Edelweiss+ for providing me with a copy of this!

This is a very different style of comic to anything I usually read. Firstly, it's an old Western style comic. It's also kind of a comedy; tons of dodgy jokes and sexual innuendos throughout. There's also a lot of swearing and crass language.

The main character is Perdy, a woman a little past her prime, who is released from a 15-year prison sentence at the start of this book. As the cover suggests, Perdy is a big fan of sex. She uses her womanly charm to seduce men - or teach them a lesson, depending on the situation.

The story gets interesting when we meet Rose, a young woman running a flower shop in Petiteville. She also happens to be the daughter of Perdy. She is pursuing a new-found love interest when her mother returns to the scene, interfering with her relationship. As Rose becomes exceedingly irritated by her mother, we see into her past life. The book ends with Rose planning to get rid of her mother again.

I liked the sketchy style of the panels, as well as the handwriting-style font. The 'voice' of Perdy is really well-developed, and I am definitely interested in what's happened between Perdy and Rose. I'm giving this 3.5 to 4 stars.

Well, here’s a fresh spin on the western genre. A hard-hitting, hard-drinking, foul-mouthed outlaw, and she’s a woman. Perdy lets nothing stand in her way. Released from prison after a lengthy stay she wants to recover some hidden loot and get back to the way things were., which is essentially drinking, robbery and sex, but the world has moved on while she’s been inside and it’s not going to be straight-forward.

And there’s another wrinkle. Her child that was unwittingly used in her deceptions and robberies is now a young woman and it’s fair to say that she wants nothing to do with her foul and unpredictable mother. Unfortunately Perdy doesn’t see it that way.

Although published by Image it’s presented in the European hardback album style. Kickliy’s loose art style sits perfectly with this rough and ready tale of a woman attempting to recapture the self-indulgent, selfish lifestyle she was so at home within. Mixing humour, violence, sex and a mixed bag of crimes it’s an entertaining two-hander between a mother and daughter at odds with one another out west.

A book for older readers, without a doubt, and another fine example of the versatility of the medium.

There was a lady at Book Expo that gathered so many books during her time there that she had to go through and discard several because she couldn't afford to ship that many books out. Lucky me happened to be closing up my box while she was doing this and that is how I got an early copy of Perdy. Westerns + a lady who has big boobs and likes sex? Uh...yes, please! I disagree with the reviews that say Perdy is harmful and anti-feminist. Perdy is not a good person and she doesn't have a good relationship with her daughter but she isn't doing anything to cater to anyone's idea of who she should be. She is unapologetic about who she is and what she wants. She likes sex so she has romping sex. She likes robbing banks so she robs banks. This isn't a stunning piece of sequential art but I rather liked it.

Simultaneously a departure from and solidly in the tradition of spaghetti westerns, Perdy follows a protagonist all but impossible in most similar stories: a sex-lovin', hard-cussin' older woman who can more than handle her own. Kickliy's art, use of color especially, is minimalist but refreshing.

Perdy volume one is fun, but not without its problems. As refreshing as Perdy is as a main character, offering more complexity for (white) women leads, the only Black character traffics in tired stereotypes. As much as this book revels in its pushing of boundaries, its use of tired racial stereotypes does anything but.

This was terrible. It's a European comic set in the Old West that for some reason Image reprinted. It's about this woman who just got out of prison who is obsessed with sex and crime. She goes to find her daughter who has grown up on her own. They get in this competition over a French doctor in this small town. Perdy's main deal is that she has huge boobs. She even uses them to suffocate someone at some point. At one point the daughter is walking on smoke over railroad tracks. None of it makes any sense or goes anywhere.

The art is awful. It looks like the artist of Ziggy made a bawdy Western.

Loved the cover. Loved the art style. But the story was… a lot.

MC is sex crazed (which grl pwr I guess) and violent and crude af. So over the top I just got bored of her being so violently one dimensional.

She also quite literally beats the crap out of a guy and then raped him. To which he says “I think I’ve been violated”. Such a “delicate womanly response which felt like it was making fun of rape.

Idk. Was not for me in the slightest. Would read volume 2 for a conclusion but honestly can’t be bothered cause I don’t expect the story to get any better.

Silly and profane Western comic series- quite fun

Perdy is a foul-mouthed sex-mad bank robber who leaves prison to look forward to her next venture, meeting weird and unattractive townspeople along the way. There’s humour, swearing, sex and violence as Perdy wreaks havoc along the way.
With simple cartoony artwork and a reasonable plot, this series should please those in need of something a bit light-hearted.

This is graphic novel for adult.
I repeat. For adults!
Don't even think to give it to your kid!
It has a lot of profanity, images for older audience only the whole story is just for grown ups.
That being said I was laughing many times, I have found it charming at moments.
But overall too much vulgarism in the story.

This is a graphic novel for adults that you don't have to think too hard about. Perdy just got released from Yuma prison and is now on the hunt for more banks to rob and men to sleep with while trying to get her daughter to convert to the lawless side too.

It's a romp with enough substance to be entertaining, pure entertainment for sure.

not the book you’d expect from the creator of Musnet. Or any one really. Fun, fightin’, nasty, sex filled, smart and action packed.
The book plays up to genre conventions then unloads its sixgun all up in that.
Perdy uses everything at her disposal to get what she wants! Kickliy’s srt style is expressionistic, filled with loose gestural figures and an over composition that makes this such a pleasure to read and reread.

I'm a bit disappointed in this-the premise had me hooked (how many times do you actually get to see an older woman be the protagonist and be sexual?) but it turned out to just make Perdy the butt of the joke. Basically, this is a comic book version of a porn parody of a Western (A Braful of Dollars? True Tits?), so if you're into that, check it out.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3.5. Fun little filthy Western tale. Reminds me of Deadwood, but through the lens of Walt Kelly's Pogo. I have been reading a lot of Noah van Sciver books lately and this feels like a lost NVS book, but full of cartoon sex and violence! Also made me think a lot about Keith Giffen, Charles Schulz & Mad Magazine. It was a fun way to spend an hour reading!
