Drift back in time with award winning S. R. Mallery, as she presents some excerpts––or “snippets”––from her different books. They range from an American family saga to full, historical adventures involving sewing; from a U.S. Civil War Romeo and Juliet couple defying all odds to a 1926 Old Hollywood romantic murder mystery; from both a colorful Western romance and a Nazi spy romance thriller to short stories that keep you guessing…. HERE’S WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT S. R. MALLERY “S.R. Mallery is a gifted author who drew me into the story from the first word and kept me reading until the very last page.” –– Trudi LoPreto for Readers’ Favorite “…her style lures the reader; you actually become part of her tapestry of expression.” –– Melinda Hines, Top Amazon Reviewer “Master storyteller S. R. Mallery has a remarkable gift. The amazing ability to bring rich, historical events to life…” –– Geri Ahearn, Top Amazon Reviewer
S. R. Mallery has worn many hats in her life. Starting out as a classical/pop singer/composer, she moved onto the professional world of production art and calligraphy, followed by a long career as an award winning quilt artist/teacher and an ESL/Reading instructor. Her short stories have been published in descent 2008, Snowy Egret, Transcendent Visions, The Storyteller and Down In the Dirt. Unexpected Gifts is her debut novel. Sewing Can Be Dangerous and Other Small Threads, a collection, is due out late 2013.
If you’d like a taste of Sarah Mallery’s books but aren’t sure which one to start with, you need these “Snippets”! Each features a short excerpt from a book, which will not only intrigue you but will leave you wanting more. I actually read all of Ms. Mallery’s books except for her upcoming one (the excerpt from which is included in the very end) but after going through all of these little snippets, I couldn’t help myself and decided to re-read some of my favorite books of hers. What I love most about Ms. Mallery’s stories is that they not only tell a compelling story but explore such important social issues like the suffragist movement, the immigrant labor of the beginning of the century, the Vietnam War, feminism, misogyny, and many more. And, being the history buff that I am, I already can’t wait for Ms. Mallery’s newest WW2 thriller, which should come out very soon.
Now, why don't more authors do this? I read Snippets on my Kindle and found the idea brilliant. There are 'snippets', if you will, of a few of her books within the covers of the novel. I was able to choose which book to read next by reading through the many examples. I think I will go with The Dolan Girls next. I had read Genteel Secrets and was pleasantly surprised at how well-written Ms. Mallery's work is. She has one great editing staff and her research is far beyond any I have seen in quite some time. I highly recommend this book if the reader is looking for the next S. R. Mallery book.
I actually read all the full length books mentioned in this Book Bites. S.R. Mallory is one of my favorite authors! I read through the snippets within and remembered how much I loved each one!! Wondering which one was my absolute favorite out of this selection--Wonder no longer--
If you have the chance purchase (it is free at the moment) and read the short story Charlotte
And you really should get this Snippets in Time Book Bites 2. There is quite a variety of her novels and I am positive you will decide to get the full length on some if not all of them.
Of course I read the Snippets in the 2nd in this series and finally got to Book 1!! I actually read and reviewed all but three of these books and loved them all. There are three that this snippet included that intrigued me and I will be getting them soon. They all sound so interesting!!
I hope you take the time to read the snippets of the novels that are included in this volume--I am sure you will find one or all of them that you will want to continue reading. Happy browsing!!
I love Susan's work, however I am not a fan of short bios of books. Why there's never enough to keep me reading and if I become intrigued enough to want more of the story it suddenly ends. That frustrates me even more.
I found this book to hold eclectic snippets of numerous books by Mallery. They were more than brief and actually wonderstruck snippets of her books, set in different era's and themes. Five stars for showing me how to touch an audience in this manner.
This is a great way to get to know this author as readers are given a sneak peek into a collection of tales. The stories make you want to check out the books by this author. The collection of special snippets is well put together and intriguing.
The stories get you interested in a way that keeps you wanting more. I am especially want to continue reading Sewing Can be Dangerous as soon as possible!
