For eighteen-year-old Rouen Rivoche, being a fairy princess isn’t about fancy parties and happily ever afters.

Rouen’s people are the dark Fae whose powers of lightning, thundersnow, and all things Winter make them cold, severe, and 100% intolerant of rebellion.

Too bad being a rebel is in Rouen’s blood.

Against tradition, she’s teamed up with Syl Skye, the sleeper-princess of the fair Fae—a mortal enemy who Rouen should want to kill but only wants to kiss. Plus, to be with Syl, Rouen’s masquerading as a glam goth-rock star and human high school student. Honestly, Rouen doesn’t think things could get any more complicated.

Then, she discovers she must become Queen of the Winter Court or all her people will die. No pressure.

Now, dark forces are amassing in the Winter Court, turning Rouen’s people against her and blocking her path to the throne. Even Syl with all her powers of white flame and Summer can’t stop this new kind of evil.

Because betrayal cuts close when it’s someone you love… and now it looks like Rouen’s going to be dethroned before she ever becomes queen.

I have enjoyed this series with each book being better than the last but WOW, I really enjoyed this novelette (my favorite so far)! This series just took a big step up in my opinion. Looking forward to book 3. 👍😊

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley

I was actually kind of getting tired of this series before - it is definitely much more stereo-typically YA than most stuff I read - but this novella was actually a nice departure from the previous books while still keeping generally the same feel. For this one we actually get to spend most of the book Underhill in the dark fae realm and it was nice to get away from the high school setting and 'mean girl' high school villains from the earlier books and actually just focus on the fae. The author introduced a lot of different kinds of fae as well and I always enjoy seeing an author's unique take on things like that so that was especially fun for me. It definitely helped me get more excited for the next full length installment.

Dethroned is a novella from the Circuit Fae series, and though it was short, it wasn't any less fun than all the other books.

Now, I may be biased in my review because of a crush I may have on one of the protagonists (shhh!) but I assure you that this book really is pretty amazing!

Syl Skye and Rouen Rivoche are the most entertaining and fun characters! I love how the author so deftly writes both of their perspectives in such contrasting tones! While Syl is all warm and bubbly, Rouen is the embodiment of dark and gothic.

All in all, I'm totally taken with the series, and can't wait to read the next awesome book!

My Review:
Another book from this series! They seem to be coming out consistently, although I'm a little confused at why this one specifically is a novella, because it seems like a big chunk of the story changes between the second book and the third book, and you would probably be very confused if you miss this one. It very easily could have been it's own novel. That being said, I did thoroughly enjoy reading this, aside from some of the more cringe worthy moments that are "so so sexy hot", yes that's an actual quote. I also love the cover.

Syl and Rouen are back, celebrating Christmas with Syl's mom. The day when Rouen will be crowned queen is less than two months away, and she's uneasy about it, but overall excited. Little do they know what's in store for them this time. Although this book is short, a lot happens in it. It stays consistent in the series, which is good, and the world they're in does too. I was a little confused by all the words I didn't know, but I got over it. The characters are the same as they've always been. Young and in love. One night while Syl is heading home, she's attacked by redcaps, cannibal dark fae controlled by Rouen's father, the King. They're confused why he would ever do that, but once they get into the dark fae realm, everything becomes clear. He's evil, and he's tearing the realm apart. They must stop him. But will they in time? Only you can find out by reading this short book. I definitely recommend it, if you've liked and read the other books. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

Rouen and Syl are still looking for ways and times to be alone together so that they can snuggle with their favorite girl. But it is Christmas and spending some alone time together would be a great Christmas present for the both of them.

After they have a wonderful Christmas dinner with Syl’s mom Rouen is awakened during the middle of the night from dead sleep to the sound one of the most horrible screams she has ever heard. She awakes to find Syl in horrific pain and soaking wet. When she sees that Syl is injured she knows right away that it was a dark fae. To save Syl Rouen must travel to her home land to the Winter Court.

After saying goodbye to Syl and opening the ley-lines she is just about to step through to the other realm when Syl grabs a hold of her and is brought through with her. When they reach the other realm Rouen wants to send Syl back she is unable to reopen the ley-lines again as they are not obeying her commands.

Upon her arrival in the Winter Court Rouen learns that an evil force has taken control of the dark fae. If Rouen can’t find a way to stop this evil force then her people will die and what about the love of her life Syl? What is to become of her? Can Rouen save her people the dark fae? Can she save Sly? Will she become the Queen of the Winter Court?

I love following Rouen and Syl or their journeys and traveling to the other realms. I love the world of the Circuit Fae and watching Rouen and Syl working together to kicka**. They are amazing when fighting alone but together they are bada**. I have loved each and every book from this series and am always on the lookout for the next one.

Dethroned is filled with action from the first right up to the end. It will keep you turning the pages wanting to know what is happening next. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Yeah it was that good. I can’t wait book 3 Inimical.

Do I recommend Dethroned? Yes I do! If you like reading about the fae, other realms and watching two bada** chicks fight then you will love Dethroned.

Of course Syl and Rouen can’t spend even a Christmas in peace, as the dark king decides this is the perfect time to take out the fair heir and his own daughter.
This is a novella that goes between the latest book and the upcoming one, with Ro basically facing the same choice Syl did last time. No surprise she makes the same decision. What I didn’t expect was for all kinds of fairie kids to be so instrumental. If there’s one low point, it’s that for such a short book there’s so many mentions of how Syl would have been dead from her injuries had she been merely human.
It’s tough keeping up with all the magic, new and also old, but then I’m here for the fun interactions, the snarky wordplay, and there’s plenty of that here.

It's Christmas time and Syl and Rouen will finally get a break to spend some time together. . . except the dark Fae have other plans.
When Syl is poisoned by a Redcap, Rouen must travel to dark Fae and stand up to her father. Is she ready to challenge him for the throne?

I really enjoyed this prequel and think it works well as a stand-alone as well. Most of the book takes place in dark Fae and you get to learn more about Rouen and her people. This book added a lot of depth and world-building to the series, which I enjoyed.

Put on your Dark Fae boots and dodge the Vorpal Sword, because Roue and Syl are back for another epic adventure you won’t want to miss. The excitement, valor and romance continue in Dethroned as Roue confronts her father in the UnderHollow while Syl risks exsanguination from a particularly nasty wound. We don’t want to spoil any of the thrills, but trust, us, you’ll be on the edge of your own Adamant Throne. If this is the first one you read in the Circuit Fae Series, you’re going to want to (a) read all the others; and (b) beg Genevive Iseult Eldredge to keep writing these gripping books! Five stars. Please, give us some more!

This series became an easy favorite for me.

I honestly tried to read Inimical without reading this first. But as I discovered previously, if someone would miss a single book in the series, there's that confusion and "lost feeling". So because of that, I ended up taking a step back.

Another amazing prequel by GIE that can pass off as a short story. BUT, almost follows on where Ouroboros ended. This is the book that would certainly make you pick up Inimical immediately. It shows a sneak peak on what would happen in Inimical. A preview on what Syl and Rouen would face.

With the character development, still amazing. Syl and Rouen are even more amazing. I love the F/F Romance in this one. It was beautifully executed.

Dethroned took quite a different turn than I expected . . . and I loved it!

Most of the story takes place in Dark Fae, so it was really cool to learn more about Rouen's people. There is soooo much lush world building! I really hope to see more of some of the sidebar characters in future books.

In addition to learning more about the Dark Fae realm, I also enjoyed seeing Syl and Roue's relationship develop. Even though this book starts up where Ouroboros leaves off, I think it works as a stand alone book too. I believe that a new-to-the-series reader would be able to enjoy this as well.

This is my favorite novella in the Circuit Fae series so far. We learn so much more about UnderHollow – the politics, races that live there, and of Rouen's father, the current king. There is a larger focus on Rouen in this novella, and that's definitely a plus for me! Rouen finds herself fighting her father for the crown, with the court divided on who should rule. Rouen ends up in prison with kidnapped dark Fae children while her father is slowly killing Syl (because he, of course, does not approve of his daughter dating a fair Fae princess).

I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This is a fast moving Novella and a good introduction to the characters if you have not read the previous books in the series.
Highly amusing characters make this a good read.
