Jessica Sims lives in Texas. She hates writing a bio, so something cool will undoubtedly go here later when she actually thinks of something interesting to write. She has some cats, but what writer doesn’t? She plays video games and confesses to reading comic books. And she likes writing, but that one was pretty obvious.

What happens when you're a human living among the supernatural and you find out you're dying? You plan on talking a vampire into turning you into their forever mate. Of course there are tons of obstacles for our likable heroine: supernatural politics, the fine print on her employment application, poor communication, and being painfully inexperienced at dating. What's worse is the playboy shifter who volunteers to give her some pointers starts looking better and better each day. And when the practice sessions start? OMG...

Must Love Fangs offers fun and sexy romance and dramatic suspense. It definitely got some epic eyerolls from me though. When I said poor communication earlier, I meant it. So many opportunities to prevent relationship drama but no. So many opportunities to explore additional options to death but no. Vampire or nothing. She doesn't even like vampires! It was still a fun book though overall, earning 3 1/2 stars from me. If you follow Jessica Sims's Midnight Liaisons series or if you just enjoy paranormal romance, check it out!

My favorite quote:
“Life wasn’t about being alone so that no one would get hurt, it was about loving the ones you had while you had them.”

Note: Jessica Sims's Midnight Liaisons series includes the following installments as of September 2016.
1-Beauty Dates the Beast
2-Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter
2.1-Vixen
2.3-Speed Mating
2.6-Single Wolf Female
3-Must Love Fangs
3.5-Bear Naked
3.6-Claws & Effect
4-Wanted: Wild Thing
4.5-Tiger by the Tail
5-Alpha Ever After

This started out well but then the force of stupid turned strong and lost me from the mid point onward.

It's the story of Marie, who is a human who knows about supernaturals since she works in the dating agency catering to them, and knowing that she's going to die soon from the same illness her mother suffered, decides to use her position to avoid that fate.

She goes on a hunt for someone to turn her, and after recent developments lead the shifters to ban all unauthorized turning of humans, she turns her sights to vampires. Going through the dating agency's database, she goes on a series of dates with all sorts of weird vampires, more and more desperate to find one to turn her.

In the meanwhile, Joshua, a were-cougar who has a reputation for being a serial dater, continues to tease and pester her at work, and soon discovers her plans. For reasons of his own he decides to help her, and the two of them become close and eventually fall for one another.

And here the stupid takes over. Marie hasn't told anyone about her illness and continues on her idiotic scheme to find a vampire to change her, even after some very disturbing experiences, and eventually ends up

All's well that ends well, and the couple gets their happily ever after.

The series continues with a were-bear story next in Bear Naked.

Firstly, I must give Sims credit, I think this stands on its own fairly well. While Must Love Fangs is connected to the first two books in the series, I don't think you actually need to read them in order to 'get' Fangs.

Secondly, I liked that the heroine was somewhat atypical. She wasn't conventionally pretty, a badass, a genius, a honeypot, or extraordinary in anyway. She was just a woman who was dying and looking for a way out, while being fairly cranky all the time due to lack of sleep.

However, the heroine's disease is somewhat responsible for me being unsatisfied with the book. I was not aware, until I googled it right now, that fatal familial insomnia is a real disease that affects about a hundred people worldwide. I thought it was a made-up disease and I have been conditioned by paranormal romance to expect that if the heroine is suffering from a made-up disease, it is almost always her previously-unknown paranormal genetic code battling it out with her human half. So I really thought they were going to get around the whole transforming her thing because she was already part whatever. This did not happen because, as I said, it's a real disease that afflicts real people. I think I would have had an easier time with it if I'd known fatal familial insomnia was real going in.

The other problem that I had is that, while I think Sims did a great job of developing the relationship between the hero and heroine, we never get to see

I keep reading Sims's books because I think the writing skills are there, but they just haven't hit the sweet spot for me yet. As always, I continue to live in hope.

Is this book the most cliche book I have EVER read??

Quite possibly.

Did I still enjoy it?

Of course.

This book revolves around Josh and Marie. The first being the a man with the personality of an elementary school boy who likes to tug on your pigtails to indicate that he likes you...and every other girl on the playground, and the latter the iciest ice queen to have ever ruled Icelandia all to hide the fact that she is sick and dying. Can they ever overcome their differences and learn to love one another?

Will he thaw her icy heart, and will she be able to tame his playboy ways and make him experience just a single moment of seriousness in his carefree life?

Well DUH. OF COURSE.

Don't get me wrong. I did not go into this book expecting a lot of depth or drama but considering the first 2 books were a bit more original emotion wise this one underwhelmed me with its total cliche ness. So much so I was rolling my eyes repeatedly while reading. REPEATEDLY.

Still did I enjoy it? Yeah. Yeah I did.

But come on Ms. Sims....fatal familial insomnia? What a totally freaking random disease. I get why you did it. She needed a disease that would cause her death but still allow her to date. It needed to be something that could allow her to still be cute (I.e. No thinning hear, sallow skin, and popping off toenails). And she needed something that didn't have a cure so that her totally bat shit insane idea of being turned by a vamp would be understandable.

But come on!!!! Even after Josh tells her all about vamps - like the fact that once turned you become their blood partner, I.e. LIFE LONG PARTNER' she continued to think wing turned into one was a good idea, and that afterwards they could have a fling on the side.

Hello STUPID, is this thing on??? Are you even listening??? Cause this is kinda important.

All in all, I loved the first 2 books, and loved those characters cameos in this book, but this one definitely fell flat for me. Although the set up for Ryder's novel was great, and I am excited to read that one.

I've loved this series ever since I discovered book 1 (Beauty Dates the Beast). My favorite book until today is Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter. This book wasn't as good as Book 2, but it wasn't bad either. Let's just say it was average.

I got pissy with Marie so since the beginning I wasn't the into what she was doing. I understand that she was dying and that she would go to extremes to have that not happen, but she had a perfectly good guy wanting to turn her and she chose to run off on a chance that the other guy would do it instead. Up to the point in the story I just gave up rooting for them as a couple. She was just so hard headed and that did nothing to add to the story.

I love Josh. Why you ask? Well he's the ultimate playboy turned commitment guy. He was sweet, caring, attentive and not over possessive. He had everything going or him and he just had to choose Marie...URGH. I am not a fan of her.

I had one other issue with the storyline. I understand that turning a human was (until this book) "illegal" and "wrong". So why is it that the first couple who did it, got an example made out of them and Josh and Marie got a simple pat on the back because of a miraculous decision and voting of the "board"? I know their main characters and all, but that just made the story even more unbelievable. Sure, it's fiction, but it doesn't have to be so out-of-this-world that the characters have to rely on luck and chance of events.

The heroine's got a fatal disease and she's so desperate to live longer that she decides to start dating vampires in the hope that one of them will fall in love with her and turn her, so she can get better.

Josh, the incorrigible flirt, can't seem to stay away from her. He decides to help her win a vampire by giving her dating tips and acting as her body-guard.

As expected the two realise their attraction to each other and through twists and turns, finally end up together. Nothing new except for the type of disease the female lead has. And it is not cancer.

I do have to say though the disease which the author talk about is something I wouldn't curse on my worst enemy. The author manages to paint a very terrible image of the disease and when I read it up, it is even worse in real life. It definitely made me ache for the heroine's plight at times. Even her pathetic desperation seemed understandable because of it.

This story has an interesting plot where Marie (a human) is dying from a very rare disease and is intent on being "changed" to save her life. The plot development is executed well and her "mate" is very good match for her more dower personality. Very enjoyable read and series.

I thought I would really enjoy this one as I was curious to know what was going on with Marie and Joshua was such a fun flirty ladies man is previous book appearances. If anyone could bring her out of her shell it would be him. But I wasn't a fun of this one. While I understood the reasoning for Marie's actions, I still couldn't get past the fact that she . Marie had one too many tstl moments and I came away almost feeling like Joshua would have been better off without her! Will keep around for a possible re-read as I might feel differently the second time around.

Supernatural Love

A supernatural dating agency - because supernaturals need love too, yo! ;)

The Midnight Liaisons series has been a blast so far. I didn't read the first book (I know, shame on me!) but thanks to Lynsey's glowing recommendation I did grab the second one and was immediately hooked on the world Jessica Sims has created. Each book focuses on a different couple, and in this particular installment, we've got Marie and Joshua, two very different personalities who may have more in common than they think.

So what is the book about? In a nut shell, Marie is a human who works for Midnight Liaisons, the aforementioned supernatural dating agency, and she needs to be turned. (Notice I said "needs" instead of "wants to be". That's important - and no, you're not getting any other spoilery type statements out of me!) Unfortunately for Marie, because of the not-so-nice supernatural climate right now, her options of who - or I should say, what - can turn her are limited. But Marie has a plan, and she is determined to execute it.

I loved Marie. She has a delightfully cool and acerbic personality, which was so refreshing, and while I didn't think much of her plan (too many holes in it), it was fun watching her try to carry it out. And more than that, it revealed so much about her character. With each date Marie went on, searching for the right one to turn her, I learned a little more about her, and the more I learned, the more I liked her. She was a very easy leading lady to get behind.

The real star of the show, though, was were-cougar Joshua Russell. What a charmer! He's one of those guys who comes off as just another playboy until you get to know him and discover his gooey center. That's not to say he's a walking wuss-ball - far from it! There's no rolling over and playing dead for this guy. He strolls onto the page, big as life, and pretty much commands every scene he is in. I love it when heroes do that, don't you? He's irresistible and I promise, you're going to end this book gushing over him.

As paranormal romances go, this series is a hit for me. With multiple supernatural races involved, there are plenty of possibilities for future books, and I just plain like the author's style. It's sexy and fun and makes for a quick, enjoyable read. You really can't go wrong here, folks, and I'd encourage all of you to give these PNR books a try.

I've read so many romance novels in my life and I can honestly say this is one of the dumber ones.

Marie is a freaking moron. I don't know if Miss Sims is really a man writing under a fake name, because only a man can write a woman that badly, women TALK about their problems. Even "ice queen" types reach out to someone. There's no way she'd keep her illness quiet. We women seek out others for support and help. Going it alone is a man trait that people wrongly think when applied to women makes them "strong" characters. No, this just makes them flipping idiots!

And to fall for a worthless w***e like Josh? No. Just no. He sleeps around too much. A s**t like that could never, ever be faithful. Yes, men can be w***es and s**ts too. If you sleep with people without considering their feelings that's what you are. If Josh was a real man he would only sleep with women he wanted a chance to commit to.

What's with all the vampire bashing? Vampires are far superior to were-creatures. Why would anyone want a were-creature or to be one? If you thought PMS was bad wait until a full moon.

Vampires don't have periods, vampires don't go crazy during a full moon, vampires are immortal, and vampires can't get pregnant so Marie wouldn't ruin her life by ever having kids.

But the immortal part is the best. Even shifters die of old age and accidents. (Course in the original myths werewolves had the good luck to turn into vampires when they died. Unless shot with a silver bullet as silver is deadly to vampires.)

What Marie should've done is -

1: Tell everyone about her illness the way all strong women do.

2: Get permission to start a profile and be turned.

3: Tell Josh she doesn't want were-herpes.

4: Find herself a vampire instead.

I'm mostly mad at how utterly stupid Marie is and the whole trope of "I'm dying let me find a miracle cure." If that hadn't been the driving force of the book I might've bought everything else about it. Including her falling in love with a worthless tramp like Josh. But as it stands, no, just a stupid book.

In this installment of the Midnight Liaisons series we get to meet Marie. Marie works the night shift at Midnight Liaisons and is now thinking of using these services for herself. Marie knows that she is going to die, her mother died of a strange illness and now Marie knows she is showing all the signs of the same illness. She really wants to find someone who will turn her to save her life, so she decides that she will seek out a vampire and become one herself. But Joshua has other ideas, this werecougar does not like the idea of Marie falling for a vampire and obviously thinks that he would be a better match. In this case they both have no idea what they are in for, but a lot of chemistry fills the air.
This was yet another great book from Jessica Sims. Marie is a loveable character who is clueless about the guy right in front of her. She gets into some interesting situations because she refuses to look in front of her, but luckily Josh is right there to save her. I loved her because she was just waiting for someone to come along to trust and she finally found him. With some steamy sex scenes, you’ll love this book.

No me cautivó. Lamentable.

Of the four books from the Midnight Liaisons series I've read (Out With a Fang, Beauty Dates the Best, Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter, and this one), this was probably my least favorite. That's not to say it was not a great book though. I've come to absolutely adore this series and Jessica Sims' writing.

In this book, Marie is dying from a rare disease with no cure. The only way she can see to live is by being turned. After a forced turning by a tiger shifter, though, the Alliance has banned shifters from turning anyone. That leaves vampires, so a vampire to turn her is exactly what Marie sets out to find.

For some reason Marie can't understand, cougar shifter and assumed playboy, Josh Russell, has taken an interest in her. Seeing get naivety about vampires, he offers to help her, and she can't turn him down. But in taking his help, she has unknowingly made the situation far more complicated.

When Marie ignores Josh's warning about a vampire and finds herself in a wine cellar, it is Josh who saves her. That being said, once no longer trapped in the cellar, she does help to save Josh in turn.

She didn't trust Josh when she should have, but how could he possibly find a solution that didn't involve her being turned by a vampire? By the end of the book Marie and Josh do find their HEA and the book ends without a cliffhanger. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I would highly recommend reading the rest of the series as well.

This is one of those books which made me wonder how the supernatural creatures in this series have managed to exist for so long. Because they're just... a little clueless.
Marie is an employee of a supernatural dating agency and uses the resources at hand to help her find a supernatural willing to turn her. She's not picky - vampire, wereshifter, she'd even take a fae. She's not looking for a long term commitment. She just wants to live forever. Well she says she only wants to cure the sleep disorder she has which is killing her.

How do all the supernaturals with their magical senses and all that jazz not realise there's something wrong? And they don't realise she's associating with vampires etc. considering they can smell danger a mile off?

It's an okay story. I didn't warm to Marie (mostly because of her made up sounding disease and partly because of how stupid I found her to be). But her relationship with Josh

I just can’t read anymore of this series. I stuck with it, listening to 2.5 books, because it was highly recommended by someone whose opinion I trust. The narrator is good, she does a good job of switching voices from character to character, male to female, without being jarring. However, I did not enjoy that a) the heroine is yet another inexperienced, sheltered virgin; the hero is a confident hornddog who is too arrogant and annoying without being redeemed (in my eyes); the heroine doesn’t freaking talk to anyone about her problem. I don’t get why all the heroines in the first three books are such shy, simpering girls, without much backbone. No, I’m not being entirely fair. I’m too irritated for that.

Bought as part of audible escape package.

I clearly enjoyed Must Love Fangs a lot more when I originally read it because I rated it ★★★★. Years later? I really wasn't feeling it and for the majority of the book, I felt like Marie was an idjit of epic proportions. Slow book is SLOW and I think I'm going to move on from this series. I give Must Love Fangs ★★½.

I enjoyed revisiting the world of Midnight Liaisons. In this story, we get to know Marie Bellavance, one of the late-night employees of Midnight Liaisons.
Marie is hiding a big secret - she is dying from a rare disease. She thinks that being turned into a supernatural creature may be her last chance at survival.
Of course, getting turned is not a simple thing - especially when shifter politics are involved.
Must Love Fangs is a race against time and a heck of a good time.
