Adulting (verb): To do grown-up things and hold responsibilities such as having a job, paying rent or doing laundry. A verb used exclusively by those who adult less than 50 per cent of the time. If you forgot to pay your council tax, you're hungover at work (again) and you've been living off pesto pasta for the past 17 days, it's time to adult. Authentic grown-up, Stephen Wildish, has produced a book for everyone who feels they need assistance getting through the confusing landscape of the Real World. A compendium of ingenious graphs and charts, covering topics such as `Getting out of Bed', `Going to Work', `Cleanliness' and `Drinking', this handy guide will enable overgrown teenagers to stop hitting the snooze button and take their first groggy steps into adulthood.
It does contain some sentences that could offend, such as the pages with ”Lies we tell ourselves”. It was quite entertaining and actually contained some tips too.
This is such a fun book! I just got back from a long long journey and have just made some huge decisions in my life, all of which i still have tons of doubts about. So my friend lent me this gem. I dont think it will solve any problem but it sure does lift my mood up. I giggled all the way from start to finish and i do think everyone would, too. Highly recommend if you want a change of air. The book is kinda short and contains mostly funny illustrations, easy to read and easy to grasp.
I read a physical copy of this book in English, and I really enjoyed it -- it's fun and insightful, and you can easily read it in a day. I definitely chuckled a couple of times.
"So it turns out being an adult is mostly just googling how to do stuff."
So I got this book as a gift for my birthday. (just to tell you a little about my personality)
And it was a great time! This book not only made me laugh, it contained some really great advice that I'd like to find myself using to help me become an ~adult.
A really fun, quick and easy read with hilarious illustrations and apt advice for our generation that finds itself in a state of arrested development.
“1. Take notes It's important to note things down periodically to make it look as if you are listening. It doesn't matter what you write, you will never refer to these notes. If you do doodle, try not to get caught drawing a cock and balls, however tempting this is.”
This book has definitely been a very hilarious one and one that anyone could finish in one sitting. It was actually full of actionable simple advice and a lot of laughter. The author touched upon each important subject about adulthood in a fun and also interesting way. I liked how he wanted you as the reader to not take everything always as seriously while at the same time be attentive and serious when the occasion is right. The differences in diagrams between the adult and non-adult were laughable and hilarious at the same time, but also true in their own way.
I got this guide on my last Birthday and did not imagine for it to be so entertaining. I have read it in 45 minutes. It is a funny guide on how to manage your life as an adult and what differentiates teens from adults. Yet, it is not a boring chit chat it includes amusing diagrams and it is written awesomely. I had to smirk a few times while reading. There is not much to add here except it would be an excellent extension to your bookshelf.
This was my ONTD Reading Challenge book for the month of March. The theme was read a non-fiction book.
Really fun read and I laughed out loud at some points. That being said, I don't know how best to review a book like this so I have given it an above average rating and will just leave it at that :)
What does it mean to be an adult? When are you an adult? How can I adult? How can I possibly get to the end of this page without checking social media?
A highly entertaining book of pointless things. I expected this to be a really average ‘gift book’ that looks funny on the outside as a coffee table book but it’s actually very funny and well written inside too. I even learnt a few things!
This was super fun, really made me chuckle at times and such a quick read! Though it made me realise I’m definitely in the early stages of adulting, it was oddly reassuring to read that I’m on the right track. And it also made me realise most adults I know don’t act much like adults at all. So I guess we’re all just fumbling our way through together!
Discovered this book in a bookshop in Dar es Salaam when browsing with my daughter who will graduate from high school this year. It's a quick read with many funny pictures and diagrams. The humor is typical dry British fare. Although crude at times, the book also offered several tidbits of insight which opened opportunities for discussion about adulting.
My best friend got me this for my birthday. It was probably as a joke but I read it anyway because I’m hopeless but this book was beautiful. I really enjoyed it to be fair and it made me laugh pretty much all the way through.
Does this prove that I’m a 22 year old child? Probably but I don’t care. My main hobby is reading so I’m living my best life
I finished the book! Kinda sad about it, because it was so entertaining! Even though most of the advice was self explanatory, the book had great humor and nice, fun illustrations. Super easy to read, and you will find yourself laughing and relating all the way through. Amazing book!
Taken with a large adult sized grain of salt, a quirky and humorous portrayal of the adult things in life. The pace and tone is reminiscent of "The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck" by Mark Manson. These two books go hand in hand.
Rescued from my (adult) daughter’s “off to the charity shop” box. Chucklesome piss take of modern life, occasionally on point, mostly too cliched to be sharp. Nicely designed stocking filler. Back into the “off to the charity shop” box, as a second read won’t be anywhere near as funny.
A humorous and fast read, this book will give you the basics of what you need to do to become a successful "adult". I'll definitely be able to use some of this advice since I'm still trying to figure out what that means myself. lol
Very fun read. Offers a good relatable chuckle for a simple millennial. Spent a few spare moments in an afternoon to finish this. Not sure why I’m only giving it 3 stars?
