Thrown back in time to fulfill the promise of a dying woman, Audrina must find her destiny in the wild Scottish Highlands — and discover the man that fate chose for her hundreds of years ago.

Audrina James was only trying to stop the old brooch from being stolen; she didn’t know that touching it would send her back in time to medieval Scotland! But the brooch belonged to Audrina’s ancestor, a woman who died tragically on her wedding night and swore to her last breath that she would be reunited with her true love — and Audrina is her mirror image.

It’s been one year to the day since Colin MacLaren’s bride suffered and died at the whim of a bloody-handed English occupier. So how is she standing before him? No matter how adamant her protests that she doesn’t know him — no matter how crazy her story about coming from the future — Colin is sure this woman is his lost love. Now if only he can convince her of that.

Together they must navigate the vagaries of fate that brought them together, their own scorching physical attraction, and the ever-present danger from Colin’s enemies… including a certain murderous English nobleman who knows Audrina must be a witch. After all, didn’t he kill her with his own two hands?

The blurb for this one looked so good but unfortunately the actual reality didn’t live up to the promise.
It’s been a while since I Indulged in a good Scottish time travel romance so I was looking forward to this one.
It’s started well enough but sadly never gathered the momentum it needed to take off.
I couldn’t connect with the writing which felt disjointed or any of the characters here.
Decided at 26% that enough was enough as it wasn’t getting any better the writing wasn’t great and I was bored, skimming and just not invested in this at all.
Sadly this one just wasn’t that good and definitely wasn’t for me.

The bases of this storyline was amazing. However the themes in this book became rather dark as the book proceedes so I would definitely suggest check Trigger warnings and don't be like me and just hit play to the audiobook while washing your dishes. On the audiobook specifically though... The voice actor was amazing and had a beautiful scottish accent that became stronger while reading some part, but some part were a little awkward.

In my quest to discover the current fascination with ancient highlander time-travel romances, I read the entire book. It's got to be more than merely the cover illustration of a bare-chested male body draped in a tartan, right? Or it might have something to do with the mystique of the kilt.

In this story, the main character is not only taken back in time, but she's a reincarnation of the ancestor in whose time she finds herself. Confusing, huh? Seems like it gets away from the author at times, too.

Not only that--the author also attempts to deal with the oppressive conditions that caused the uprising led by William Wallace (better known to us as Brave Heart). She's bitten off more than she can chew. Even Robert Louis Stevenson didn't attempt so much in Kidnapped.

The difficulty is compounded by the author's clear lack of skill with the English language. Spelling errors, wrong words, and word groups that can't really be called sentences abound. I found myself rewriting things mentally so I could make sense of them. Not a pleasurable read.

[I'm left with a question. Why is the time travel in these stories always made into the past? Is it to make the time traveler 'smarter' than the natives? What would happen if, just once, the ancient highlander was catapulted into the future? Would we get another 'Encino Man?' Something to think about...]

We all think we can write a book, but it's not easy. It takes perseverance to write an entire story and get it out there for people to read, whether self-published or not. Ms Preston deserves credit for doing all that, at least. So, two stars.

No. As another reviewer just said: it's not so easy to write a book. It's relatively simple to plot a nice little love story, but actually writing a book is a lot more work; among other things, you should bother to verify minimally your references. I mean, really: Scottish people in times of Robert the Bruce (king from 1306 to 1329) eating potatoes (which were brought to Europe from America by the Spanish conquerors and cultivated for the first time in Scotland in 1739). - A Scottish laird talking about 'racism', a word dating from the early 20th century. - Maybe it would have been interesting to look up previously the evolution of tartans, which doesn’t correspond either to the given time frame. - All Scottish characters throughout the book speak a painstakingly transcribed Scottish English (which, per se, is a little tiring); only the main character expresses herself in a modern American English, AND NOBODY SEEMS TO BE AWARE OF IT. Puh-leeeze.
Also, there are lots of errors. Was there no editor?
I give this two stars because it was just that: a nice little story for an afternoon when you are thoroughly bored.
This book is part of a series; there seem to be four books until now. Somehow I suspect the others will be similar, but I won't check it out. For now, I think I have had my share.

Charming time travel romance

While the story was a bit predictable, I still found it sweet and charming. I also, however, found the typos annoying and distracting. There were misused of there and their, the instead of he, extra words that made sentences confusing, and correctly spelled, but incorrect words throughout the book. Editor needs to redo this one. Knocking it down one star for the predictability of the story and one star for the terrible editing.

Highlander Found. Well this writer has brought her readers another Highlander romantic love story. This story will have you running to the Scottish Highlands to seek your own brawny man. The love story is based around the married couple of Colin and Audrina. I like how the writer brings me into the story with the dramatic and highly intense story of a Scottish Lass held captive.
All that transpires in the first few pages definitely convinced me that this book is a page turner. The entertainment and action made the book an exciting read. I don’t believe that I was bored at all. The characters are all very entertaining. Little Donal, is the most entertaining of them all. He definitely gives his mother, Mary a run for sure.
The romance between Colin is a slow build, but once Audrinia comes to terms with things, she unleashes all that she needs from Colin, on him. This is a loving story that I really enjoyed reading and I look forward to reading again. Until next time my fellow readers... read on!

Highlander Found
Highlander in Time #1
By Rebecca Preston
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Audrina James only wanted to stop the thief from stealing the brooch from the museum so she chased him down and next thing she knows her hand is bleeding, the brooch is in her hand and she's laying in a cow feild somewhere in medieval Scotland. Little did she know that the brooch belonged to Audrina's ancestor, a woman who died tragically on her wedding night and swore to her last breath that she would be reunited with her true love and this girl was the spitting image of Audrina.

It's now been one year to the day since Colin MacLaren's bride suffered and died at the hands of an English occupier. So how can she be standing before him now? She is adamant that she doesn't know him and her story about coming from the future makes her seem addled, but Colin is sure this woman his his lost love. Now all he has to do is convince her.

Together they have to find a trust and build on that if they are to get past their own scorching physical passion. They also have to deal with Colin's biggest enemy a certain murderous English Nobleman who knows Audrina must be a witch.

Rebecca Preston knows her way around medieval Scotland and time travel. I enjoyed this book immensely and found that the main main characters fairly sizzled together. This is one talented author. This may be the first book I read from Ms. Preston, but it will not be the last.

This is sweet, romantic, suspenseful and thrilling. Audrina's grandfather filled her head and heart with stories of Scotland and told her to go to Skye someday. She kept putting it off because she worked too much, but planned to go. Colin had been in love with Maeve from the minute they met as children and planned to marry as soon as they could, but Maeve kept putting him off. She didn't want to have to submit to the English pig of an overlord on her wedding night. Colin finally convinced her to marry in secret, but they were found out and Audrina was taken by Cotswold for his claim to their wedding night. And she never seen again. Audrina went to a museum to see the Scottish treasures being shown and when a thief tried to take a kilt pin she chased him down and recovered it. All of a sudden she found herself in the past as Mauve. She and Colin didn't believe in the same version of her truth, but worked together get "their" past worked out. It's an intriguing storyline with both time travel and reincarnation together.

Poorly written - I had to quit reading

Since I love the “Outlander” books this looked like a fun read, but I had to quit after 2 chapters because I could not stand the writing style and the terrible punctuation. Commas and periods used with no rhyme or reason, leaving awkward sentences and fragments. The editor should be fired.

Okay story but ...

I love tales of romance and time travel but Highlander Found was difficult to read, not because of the h/h but because of the poor sentence structure and mis-spelled words. A few mis-spellings here and there are acceptable but not every page and nearly every paragraph. I hate to not finish a book so I soldiered on hoping it would improve...it did not.

Good premise but terrible execution

I'm not sure if this is one of the author's first books(?) but whilst I thought the storyline could have been a winner, what I read fell flat with numerous grammar, punctuation and spelling. Some sections literally made no sense or contradicted earlier parts.

I cannot recommend this book in good faith and can only presume it has been self-published. It was hard work making it to the very end, but I kept hoping that it would improve but alas t'was not to be.
SERIOUSLY needs to be proofread!
If I'd have paid for it I would be demanding a refund. In recent years Kindle Unlimited have had some excellent books available, sadly this was not one of them.

I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £7.99 a month for the subscription)

I won’t read another one

The idea was very good. The book was poorly executed. There was wordiness. Sentences were confusing. Tenses were mixed up. Apostrophes appeared unnecessarily. Words like fare and fair were not used correctly. Except and accept were similarly misused. This was not time travel, it was a backward “reincarnation.” The author used anachronistic expressions coming from the clan members. Some good editing and input from beta readers would have made this an excellent read. Instead, the lack of clear writing made a muddle out of characters who were potentially well-developed. I would hand this back to the writer with a strong request to go over it again— and then re-present a well-written romantic fantasy. There’s a lot to this book that makes me feel like the baby was thrown out with the bath water.

While I agree with previous reviewers about the Hideous grammar and Writing mistakes within this story, the plot line characters and story itself we're redeeming enough for me to overlook them, which says a lot as I am considered a grammar Nazi by most of my friends. I hope not to find those errors in future stories, as I am hooked on this series and look forward to seeing what comes next. The hero and heroine had their issues but were able to find their way through them and into one another's hearts. And that is what makes any good romance worth my time.

I felt that this was an author trying very hard but unsuccessfully to imitate Outlander. It is not even fictionally credible because here she is an American and she lands in the Middle of Midlevel Scotland with an American accent and is readily accepted and not believed that she is from a different time despite her accent. None of that is ever explained in the story. If you're going to have a time travel, at least have the person speak similarly to where they're going. An American in Scotland would stick out like a sore thumb. Colin would have even thought she was a witch.

The premise of the book was fairly original for a Scottish time travel romance, but the book was so poorly edited I could not finish it. There were random commas in odd places, misspelled words, improper word forms (there, their, and they're are not OK to mix up in a published book). Please, PLEASE if you are going to write a book take the time and effort to at least attempt to edit it if not hire an editor!

Some things that made my reader soul hurt: used there instead of their, accept instead of except, raised instead of razed. Switched tenses within paragraphs. Commas and run on sentences everywhere. The plot idea itself could have been interesting but the execution fell incredibly flat and was predictable. Will not be finishing the series. Hire an editor, or at the very least have like literally one other person read a book before you self-publish it.

Maybe I’m part of the grammar police, but this was, by far, the worst book I’ve ever read! There were commas and typos everywhere throughout this book and was so annoying it detracted from the story itself

Tragic, Beautifully Written Backstory Marred by Errors

I don't know quite know what to say about this book. On the one hand, I find a lot that I enjoyed. On the other hand, certain things distracted me from complete enjoyment of the book.

I enjoyed watching the heroine’s relationship with the hero, Colin, evolve. Of course, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Audrina (the heroine) is Maeve (Colin’s wife) reincarnated; she goes back to Maeve's time in Robert the Bruce's Scotland. She doesn't understand how this time travel happened, she doesn't want to stay, she tries to go back, and she runs up against some real problems in the past in Scotland. Her dreams and visions of Maeve's past slowly unfold, and I think the author did this part of the story very well. Just as Audrina gets glimpses into Maeve’s past gradually throughout the book, we don't get a full sense of what happened to the girl back in Scotland until very near the end.

At times, I felt that Audrina overreacted to what was happening to her, especially since she seemed rather level-headed at the beginning of the book. I think Colin could have been a little more physical with her without being too physical. Due to Audrina/Maeve's seemingly apparent madness to those back in medieval Scotland, it would make sense he would forego certain activities, but it would seem that after a year of her being gone, he would want a little more closeness.

I am an RN, so I found some of the ways she had Audrina think about life as a trauma nurse in modern times wasn’t entirely realistic. Also, while I don’t know about all nursing programs, I can state for a fact that nursing programs in the State of Oregon don’t include survivalist training as a part of the course of study to become an RN or LPN. The author seemed to imply that nurses get training in particular types of nursing, like trauma nursing, in nursing school. While we get exposure to a lot of different types of nursing in nursing school, nurses don’t specialize in school like doctors do. We learn our specialty (if we have one) on the job.

I have an issue with the plotlines. The book seems to be mostly a time travel romance, but as the book goes on, the subplot with Lord Cotswold seems to overshadow it. If the author wanted these two plots to be of more equal importance, she should have dropped little hints about Lord Cotswold’s plot while the book progressed. Instead, what transpires with him seems to come out of nowhere and then effectively eclipses the romance, and it does not seem to be the fitting climax of the story. Since this seems to be more of a time-travel romance, the culmination should have been something to do with the romance.

There were glaring errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage, more so than the average book. Other strange errors, like wrong words and terms, crept in as well. It was distracting.

I think the story had really good potential, especially with the terrible history of suffering that Maeve went through. I just wish this was better realized in the book.

I abandoned this book at the 38% mark. The chapters were huge blocks of text that did not grab my attention, so I skimmed a lot of the first seven chapters. After that, the story picked up slightly but I wasn't very interested in where it was going.

This was an enjoyable Scottish time travel romance....with a twist! Audrina James is a modern day woman who lives in San Francisco, is a trauma unit nurse and who craves to travel to Scotland after listening to all her grandfather's tales about their Scottish ancestry. She soon does find herself in Scotland but not the usual way of traveling! After touching an old medieval brooch, she is transported back in time to a life she knows nothing about...or does she? She is the exact image of her ancestor, Maeve MacClaran, who died an awful death on her wedding night.

Laird Colin MacClaran still mourns for his wife when she's suddenly standing right in front of him! Audrina tries everything to convince him that she's not his wife and that she comes from the future. As the story goes on, she starts to have dreams which turn out to be memories and finds out that she's actually Maeve reincarnated in Audrina!

As much as I loved the overall storyline of time travel, white magic and reincarnation this book has plenty of room for improvement. The romance was indeed special between the H/h and their trials and sufferings unimaginable. When the heroine travels back in time to fulfill her ancestors request for justice and to be reunited with the love of her life, there are plot holes in the story. For example, what happened to the heroine's life in the future? Did she just disappear never to be heard from again? What of the theft at the museum? How was he connected to the past? The author did a great job of relating the heroine's near madness trying to reconcile fact from fiction, present and past. I admired the hero. His love for the heroine knew no depth or boundaries. The villain of the story was unexpected. A very sick, sadistic mad man. Like I said, overall a great storyline. However, there is a definite need for improvement. Highlander Found by Rebecca Preston (Highlander In Time book #1)

I decided to give the book a try when it popped up on my Kindle feed and even though it was a decent book I have to agree with the fact that it needed an editor badly. But given that it's a story of Time Travel from present time to the past with Scottish Highlanders I'd still give it a 4 star rating.

Audrina James grew up with a grandfather who loved to tell her about Scotland the land of her ancestors. When she has an unusual dream after a rather trying day as a Trauma ER nurse she goes to the San Francisco National History museum where she is witness to a man stealing the Cotswold Pin which was in her dream. Upon rescuing it she transported back in time to Scotland and everyone knows her by Maeve not Audrina and she's be gone for almost a year. But no one believes her story of the future and not being gone. She meets Colin MacClaran her husband who explains that she was taken by a Englishman lord on the evening of her wedding.

This is where I had a problem with the taking of brides by the English Lord on their wedding day and I'll leave it right there. Yes it's real Prima Noctem during Medieval Scotland and I'll leave it right there plus this is where the book lost me unfortunately but I did finish it. I'm still mulling over whether I'll read book 2 or not.

Bloody Pin

Well. Hmm. The story starts with a nurse reminiscing about her ancestors and the sudden urge to go to Scotland. By the title of the book its no surprise she does make it there just not how or when she expected.
Time travel, magic, mystery, taking down an evil murdering more, reincarnation, love and so much more.
I've read quite a few books in this genera but this is my first from this author. My thoughts are it was as expected. I felt a little lack luster at how things wrapped up. Apparently I'm a little blood thirsty, so can't blame that in the author. But the two lives or souls in one body was giving me a headache. To me if felt that Audrina may have gained a lot with being the incarceration of Mauve but she lost part of herself.
Anyway, writing was fine, story as expected, characters were ehh good for the story but not memorable or had that spark that makes a person fall in love with them.

Almost a 5 out of 5! Still a great read

Modern day trauma nurse who is transported back hundreds of years to ancient Scotland. However, when she is discovered to be the exact likeness of the dead Lady of the Land.....well, things get interesting. When she has to confront her supposed murderer, will she survive the second time?

This book completely pulled me in! I love the time travel element to this story as it was extremely well done. There is more to it than just going back in time and that is woven perfectly into it. My only complaint is the Scottish character can be hard to follow as I had to re-read a few of their dialog as it written to be Scottish like. It can be very hard to understand what they are saying.

Yes, I will continue with this series!!

*There is a few bedroom scenes and the kidnapping and rape of women.

I enjoyed reading this story! Starts in the present with Audrina at work then goes home and while looking at some pictures vowing she would visited her ancestral home Scotland she falls asleep and has a dream about a women ( I will not tell you you have to read the story to find out what it is about ). She wakes decides since she has the day off to go visit the museum that had things from Scotland while there she see the thing that she dreamed about but a masked robber comes up breaks the glass and takes it so she decides to chase him and ended up knocking him down he drops it and when she picks it up something happens. I was drawn in to keep reading to find out how she deals with everything how she meets Colin how their relationship develops and I love the ending. Look forward to reading book 2 Highlander Warrior.
