Operation Redemption, the final desperate mission in taking back the planet from the Organics has failed. Captain Rick Noble and his soldiers have been captured and imprisoned on an alien ship. The perilous journey to find a lost human colony may offer Sophie and the rest of humanity a chance at life.

Those left on Earth are caught in a life and death struggle. Corporal Athena Rollins of the NTC Ghosts of Atlantis submarine still believes they can beat the aliens with the help of AI Alexia, but time is running out. The oceans are draining, the temperatures are rising, and the other pockets of survivors are perishing every day.

Trapped on the Organic ship, Captain Rick Noble is desperate to escape and save his crew back on Earth. As he waits for his opportunity he finds an ally in the most unlikely of places.

Exodus is the 4th and final book in the Orbs series. This is an apocalyptic sci-Fi thriller that ends this addictive ride. 🙁. I miss these books. There is nothing like the first read of a series you love. I had to get the Audible because I couldn’t wait to be able to actually read the book. Life gets in the way.

Dr. Sophie Winston is the main character throughout the series. There are a lot of characters. Most well defined. Some just passing through. The characters are so well written they become true people. Friends you root for. This final installment adds some incredible imagination to some new charters I’ll never forget.

The Exodus lets the reader finally see behind the scenes so to speak. Evading the beings trying to kill mankind is thrilling to the reader, terrifying to the characters.

So much has happened to get here. Way back in the first book there was a very insightful character who is suddenly front stage again. He is the reason for this final book. It gets hard to be sure of who the good guys are.

The Audible is excellent. The narrator plays the character parts well. No problem following who is who. The vocalized sound affects are intense. I’ll never forget some of them. I highly recommend the book and Audible. What an awesome experience.

Another awesome reading experience thanks to the unparalleled authorship. The descriptive detail of this book will make you feel like you are right along with the characters. You will find it difficult to put this book down until you have finished it. If this book was a movie it would be the kind of movie that would have you sitting on the edge of your seat You would go through an entire box of popcorn without even realizing it. I applaud NSS for putting his incredible imagination into writing. I experienced Sophie's pain, Alexia's frustration, Captain Noble's anger and Athena's fear all at the same time. Jeff and David will have you cheering, they are the true heroes of the story.
You owe it to yourself to read Orbs IV. A dramatic conclusion to a series? Maybe.

My Book Review Number 172:

This review is on ORBS IV, Exodus, by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony Melchiorri. It is the fourth and final book in the Series I have read by this Sci-Fi author. It is a “Post Apocalyptic Science Fiction Survival Thriller” full of action and suspense.

I have read and reviewed all three previous books in the series, the last one in 2014. At the time, I felt another book would follow and Book 4 is finally here. I am not sure why another author helped finish the story, but they both certainly complete the story in exciting fashion.

The Prologue starts with an entry from the AI named Alexia still operating in Cheyenne Mountain. It has been monitoring the “demise of the human species” for some time now. Alexia has predicted the extinction of the human race at 95.7 percent, but even it is surprised at the ability of humans to survive this long.

Doctor Sophie Winston and a few survivors of her team have left Earth headed for the New Tech Corporation colony believed to be on Mars. The Organics that are sucking all living organisms and the water on Earth dry are believed to have originated on Mars. The last few remaining humans fighting for survival on Earth are facing insurmountable odds. Their only hope is for Alexia to find them a way off the planet. Earth is doomed.

Doctor Winston and the crew on board the NTC Sunspot finally arrive at Mars and are now searching for the human colony believed to be hiding there. However, Mars is not totally free of Organics and the fight for human survival continues on Mars with devastating results.

This story builds in intensity to the point that readers are not certain if any humans will survive the Organics at all. Fortunately, there are bright spots as the remaining humans fight to the last man, woman and child. So many characters are lost in this epic battle that the fate of the last humans is unknown until the very end.

I give this book Five Stars because the story is highly entertaining, suspenseful and hard to put down. The plot twists and turns and expands with each chapter. The action moves quickly from scene to scene. The battle against the Organics and individual fight scenes are thrilling, tense and full of terror. The aliens are frightful. The main characters are likeable and well developed. The story and dialog are well written and easy to follow. The scientific and technical explanations are plausible. I enjoyed the entire ORBS series and recommend it highly. It was worth the wait.

Keep reading good science fiction and let me know when you find an interesting novel or author.

Intense!!

Orbs IV:Exodus is the last book in this series. Dr. Sophie Winston and her team have been through hell and just when they believe they can relax and start again on Mars something always stands in their way. Exodus is full of action and has a wonderful ending. A great series!

Battered and bruised

Battered and bruised. That's a good description of how I feel emotionally. NSS does his typically wonderful job of putting you through the emotional wringer with this latest installment of the Orbs Universe. With the aliens set to snuff out the last of humanity, and betrayed by our own, they just might be finding out that instead of a spark, they have an inferno on their hands. Because humanity will never surrender, and will never give up. To paraphrase an old favorite movie, humans are at their best when things are at their worst.

Good old fashioned sifi

Pretty silly and somewhat repetitive and long winded. Story line was interesting and whole thing so ridiculous that it entertained me. I am not about to tear into the nuts and bolts of it as its what it is.

Book 4 starts not long after book 3. Operation Redemption failed and Captain Noble and his team were captured and Noble is now aboard one of the Alien ships. Sophie, Emmanuel and the crew have escaped on the NTC Sunspot, with Sophie and the kids kept in cryostasis till they reach Mars. Meanwhile, back on Earth, AI Alexia is helping survivours of the NTC Ghost of Atlantis take a stand against the organics. But time is running out for all of them, each have a battle on their hands to survive!

Wow, what a final book!! This book is relentless with its action and had me on the edge of my seat. Three different stories are happening and each of them left me breathless. First we have Noble who is aboard the enemy ship. He is kept in a cage and from what he can see from his cell, there is any number of different species from all over the galaxy. Not knowing what they want with all these species, Noble only knows he needs to escape. I loved Noble in this one!! He never gives up and holds out hope, not only for himself but his team! He is intent on getting back to them and stopping these organics no matter what.

Then we have Sophie, Emmanuel and the team heading to Mars. As they approach they see the thing they dreaded most! Blue orbs!! They get a distress signal near to them and have to go investigate, but things are worse then they taught and Mars isn't uninhabited! The organics are here. When the Sunspot gets damaged, Emmanuel has no choice but to try to get Sophie to the biosphere where there should be life. Is this the end for the team?

Meanwhile back on earth, AI Alexia is trying to help the remaining survivours of the Ghost of Atlantis to fight back and try to bring down the organics. But life on Earth is getting harder with water a scarce commodity and temperatures soaring. How can the small band of survivours survive?

I couldn't read this book fast enough! Each of the separate stories were well written and developed and they all flowed seamlessly together to create an epic finale. Knowing this was the end was bitter sweet because I've gown to love these characters. They have an incredible amount to overcome but they keep on trying no matter what. They give their all to everything and are willing to do anything to help their fellow teammates. I admired each and every one of them.

I've read most of Mr. Smith's books and have loved them all, but I haven't read any by Mr. Melchiorri yet, even though I have a lot of them!! Anyway, I have to say that I don't know how they wrote this, whether is was one chapter each or some other way, but what I do know is that you can't tell that two separate authors wrote this. The writing is seamless and the plot continuity is perfect. They definitely did an amazing job together.

In all, this was amazing. Action packed, exciting, thrilling and with a few surprising twists thrown in, this series is a must read. I'm actually surprised I liked this series as much as I did because I don't like sci fi that deals with aliens or set in space that much, but this is much more than that, the characters journey is what captured my heart. I do think I'll try more alien sci fi though, because this was so good!! If anyone has any recommendations like this book, then feel free to let me know!

3-ish stars for the book with a very strong 4 stars for the series. The final book is definitely not as strong as Chapters 2 and 3 but still extremely entertaining and very VERY readable! Seriously, find a comfy seat when you read these books because you will NOT want to get up.

So why am I saying "3-ish" besides just a poor grasp of the English language. Well, to me, this book had the opportunity to be EPIC. I'm talking "Dune"-level sci-fi worship EPIC. The set up and development to this point were all spot on and it had that chance. However, more really than any of the books so far, Orbs 4 left far too much on the cutting room floor and/or handled far too much way too abruptly for my tastes. I even came back the day AFTER writing my original views to drop a star from my rating because it bothered me that much. Some of my main 'issues':
- why did such an advanced race of aliens need to steal water? They could (unexplainably) move across dimensions, convert DNA and more and yet they couldn't develop a process for making water? Sorry kids, I majored in chemistry and given enough time, I can come up with dozens of simple ways to get around that.
- speaking of the aliens, the big reveal about their true form was about as disappointing as it could be. Just read it.
- and again and again, too much happened too quickly. What was his name, um, Rodriquez? Gone within pages (survival hint: stay away from the damn GOA crew!). The big Japanese battle scene with the Godzilla like monster? We learn about it through inference. Even Noble's noble escape was 'tada, here I am!'

KEY: I mentioned this with the first book, too, and I really think on reflection this series could have been better served by expanding the introduction and the conclusion to even embrace a 6-tome series. So much happened in this story, not only to the people but to the AIs as well. I want to blame the 2-author approach (never a good idea in my eyes) but I don't know. Publisher's fault? TAKE YOUR TIME WITH AWESOME IDEAS!!!

Even the big ending, that is, after the escape from READ IT YOURSELF I PROVIDE NO SPOILERS it all just turned a bit too hokey for me. The peace, love, and "Sophie rules" ending was just not in the tone or spirit of the series. I'll even confess the last couple of dozen pages left me really frustrated and more than a little angry, it just felt that 'off'. Luckily, I let my excitement for the extremely tense battle scenes scattered throughout - brief but bombastically beautiful! - overrule my frustration with not only the conclusion but also the brevity of oh so much. And tbh, enough of the loose ends were tied up convincingly enough (+/-, emphasis on -) to really be fun at the end of the day.

So hey, this was FUN sci-fi no matter how you slice it. Sure, you've probably guessed before you start about half of the outcome but its still awesome getting there. There's a very Scalzi-esque feel to this last book that if not in the 'esprit' of the previous Orb offers will still thrill and please even the most skeptical readers. Conclusions: sign up for Kindle Unlimited and read NSS's books. That's free advice kids, use it.

(Audible Edition Review) - There is a single word I can use to describe this entry in the Orbs series, “Damn!”

What a ride. This book took sci-fi to a whole new level and just kept going. Nick and Tony definitely have a winner here when it comes to a conclusion for this series. As usual, I tend to associate different events with other items in modern media. For example, I definitely felt some Starship Troopers and Independence Day style themes with this entry in the series. That is by no means a bad thing, it is just how my mind helps me visualize different characters or creatures.

As with past books, we find ourselves with the various AIs present in the story. Artificial Intelligence has always been a fascination of mine through my upbringing and it is very interesting to see how Nick and Tony brought the AIs into a more prominent role for this final entry. Sonya and Alexia definitely kept my interest piqued in between the various action sequences. Although, I will say, I found myself questioning the ability of the crew to transport an entire AI on a single hard drive. This is a nit-pick on my part, but as a technician, I latch on to these things.

The introduction of the various alien species was a wonderful addition to the storyline. Ribbit and Roots definitely presented an interesting aspect to the story aboard the “Zoo Ships”. Additionally, the integration which took place later in the story left me wondering how I would decide to proceed given the opportunity to merge my human self with that of alien technology/biology.

Watching as the happenings occurred onboard the alien ship was another fascinating part of this journey. The way creatures were treated on-board definitely gave me a few cringe-worthy moments. That, and Bronson Pinchot definitely let his emotions show (in a good way) while he was in the on-board scenes.

This is a fantastic conclusion to the series and makes me wonder if there will be a book five (akin to how book 6 came about for EC) somewhere down the road. Bronson has definitely grown on me as a narrator and it is interesting to hear his take on the Orbs series when compared to Elizabeth Evans and James Fouhey. If you’ve made it this far in the series, do yourself a favor and see just how awesome the conclusion can be. 5/5

A devastated Earth sucked dry by the Organic aliens and their multidimensional masters leaves the survivors of the Cheyenne Mountain Biosphere one place to go - Mars.

Aboard the NTC Sunspot Sophie Winston and the two youngest children are passing the months-long flight to Mars in cryostasis. As the Sunspot neared Mars, Sonya, the ships AI, brings an image of the planet on the screen showing the red planet - with a dim blue spot orbiting it. A huge Organic space ship circling Mars can only mean one thing - the alien enemy was on the planet and the survivors would have to fight for a place to live!

Back on Earth, the Cheyenne Mountain AI, Alexis, is directing the defense of the survivors aboard the grounded NTC submarine Ghost of Atlantis and isolated survivors struggling against the Organics. Using an overlooked satellite, LOLO, Alexis monitored the progress of the Organic assault. With only twenty percent of the ocean water remaining, little time remained for the Earth.

Captured during Operation Redemption, Captain Rick Noble was held in blue orb aboard a huge Organic spacecraft with thousands of other aliens held in identical orbs. Noble was named with a tube connecting through his abdomen to supply him with enough nourishment to stay alive. His situation appears hopeless.

This collaboration between two master storytellers is long awaited. The characters have been familiar through the first three books. Like family, we've gotten close to Sophie and Emanuel and the other survivors of the Biosphere, and their struggles have enticed us mercilessly. The storyline is continued with a twist or two, a few chuckles, but mostly a breathtaking fight for survival on two planets. The action is a fast-paced, exciting thrill ride, intense, surprise filled! Don't miss this read, it's great!

This review addresses the entire Orbs Series, Books 1-4 including two shorts, Red Sands and White Sands. Suggest reading the prequel shorts first, but it doesn't matter. Just read from the beginning of the series to get the most from this exciting SciFi story. Several characters traverse the entire series.

Plot. Earth is invaded, a handful of humans survive to save the human race, and the earth itself - even taking you to Mars. The aliens are sucking up all the water on this planet, and other worlds in the cosmos. Lakes, rivers, streams, oceans, the snow from mountain tops, ice, and ... the human body. As the climate changes, temperatures soar, and more humans are gobbled up. Cut to a huge space ship that has abducted some humans and other life forms and it is speeding through space headed for........no spoilers. Did you know alien blood is blue?

Liked. Length. Just a personal thing. Long stories are yummy. This series is close to 40 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format. Narration, production is fine, no sex, no language inappropriate to the scene. Given this is very futuristic, sexism is not an issue - there are many strong female characters - yea!

Not so hot? Not too much. You may get attached to a few characters that become alien munchies, but that's SciFi. Hard to roll your eyes at fantasies - but you may. 🙄

Written by Nicholas Sansbury Smith, narrated by Bronson Pinchot, released in 2019 by Blackstone Audio, Inc. Okay for the SciFi fan world, but no so much if you are not a fan of gooey aliens and monster spiders.

4.2 stars for the man with the plan.

I had been hoping for a continuation to this story because I was left hanging at the end of the last novel thinking it was to be a trilogy. The story started off a little slow to me but it picked up fairly quickly and pulled me in. The characters have been great from the start of the series and have just gotten better with time. Even some of the newer characters are able to make me feel for and with them. There is not only one story being resolved but 3 stories of survival by those who have been fighting from the beginning.

Operation Redemption failed but they were still able to get the Sunspot off the ground and on its way to Mars to find the colony there. The team from Cheyenne mountain and a few others have started the long trip and are hopeful. There are still survivors fighting to stay alive, Captain Nobel has been captured and is alive on an Organics ship while Alexia is trying to help get them all off the planet if possible.

There is plenty of action, adventure, and high emotion throughout the story. If you want to take a trip that will make you feel the full spectrum of emotions then this is the way to go. Definitely recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as well as the whole series. For me, a 4-book series tends to be one book too many and I find myself losing steam. I did find that to be true of this series but this final book made it all worth it. I enjoyed the non-stop action and the final resolution of the series was so satisfying. I have read some criticisms about the science in these books being unrealistic or not making sense, etc and I will say, I find that in the sci-fi genre there are books for scientists and books for non-scientists. This series falls into the latter category, which doesn’t bother me a bit as I’m not a scientist so if some of the science is inaccurate or too far-fetched, I’m not terribly bothered by it. I mean, it is fiction after all.

If you’re looking for a book series that is riveting with mile-a-minute action, this one delivers. The author really doesn’t let off the gas pedal too many times. The characters are likeable and I found myself especially drawn in by the character development of Alexia intertwined with the theme of defining humanity. In the midst of what is very much an action-driven book, there are a few moments that are poignant and stay with you.

THIS BOOK WAS SO WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!

Another awesome book and from not one, but two of my most favorite Authors ever, Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony Melchiorri. All my favorite characters from the first 3 books come back together is one very explosive ending again bringing tears, but this time tears of happiness. Just when I thought I would never learn what happened to Captain Noble, his crew on the submarine, Sophie and her friends that she considers family, the Authors bring them all back for one of the best books ever in the ORBS Series. Plus the new characters that were added, Ribbit and Roots, were seriously awesome and had me cheering for them right from the start. This is definitely one book and series that I will recommend to everyone as muchas possible and it's one series I will for sure read again in the future. Thank you Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Anthony Melchiorri, keep the books coming, as you both are seriously great in your separate writings but are truly awesome when working together.

A fitting end to the series. Sad it’s over.

If you haven’t read the Orbs series, I suggest you do. If you had previously read the first three, you have to read this final book in the series. I’m so glad the author decided to revisit the series with an additional chapter in our characters existence. The authors throw every imaginable curve ball at the reader an the people we have come to know as friends in the story. The final chapter, although great, it also disappointing in that the story is now concluded. There are so many more things that we could learn from the story and the future of the characters. But well ended, gentlemen. Very enjoyable and dramatic and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat until the end.

Book 4 is the conclusion (I guess for now although it is pretty definite) of the Orbs saga.

I wanted to make this review all about the narration. Bronson Pinchot is a master narrator. This being the last NSS series I am listening on Audible from him, I can tell you that I will really miss his wonderful storytelling. His ability to bring the story and the characters to life is unparalleled. I am now buying books he narrated simply so I can listen to him again. Initially, books on Audible was a way for me to catch up to my favorite authors during my long work commute. He has managed to make that drive a treat I look forward to every day.

Again, excellent conclusion to the saga. Excellent thrills and excellent ending. I couldn't be happier. Bravo!

An Amazing Adventure Story

Sophie and her new crew go into a huge biosphere for 6 months to test if they could manage by themselves as a rerun to see if they would be suitable to be sent to Mars. But not long after arrival, all communications stop. When they finally go outside to see what is happening, they walk into their worse, most terrifying nightmare. The human race is in the process of being annihilated by hideous aliens. What happens next is a roller coaster adventure with Sophie and her crew battling against all odds to stop the human race from being wiped out. I couldn't put the books. down and read all of the nail biting, terrifying series straight off. I can thoroughly recommend these books. You won't be disappointed.

An unrelenting tale of mankinds last stand

Orbs IV, has a theme woven through this complex and wildly imaginative story. That is; the resilience of the human species against overwhelming odds. Self sacrifice and ingenuity combine to enable a handfull of survivors to withstand the devestation of the "organic" monsters.
This incredible book, written by master storytellers Nick S. Smith and Tony Melchiori is an inspired work of collaboration! It's "unputdownable" to coin a term. This manuscript, is a thrilling out-of-this-world epic of the indominable spirit of hope in the face of profound evil!

What an awesome ending to a great series! Not what I expected at all. As always, Nicholas Sansbury Smith is fantastic. Book 4 was written by Smith and Anthony Melchiorri. I was almost worried that the feel of the story would be different, but it wasn't. Great book and series, from start to finish! It's hard to believe that the Orbs series is Smith's first published series. Bronson Pinchot does an excellent job with the narration! I loved his AI voices. Most narrators doing an AI can be a bit monotone and boring. Pinchot makes it sound like an actual AI talking without being completely monotone or boring.

Orbs 4 is the spectacular terrifying conclusion to the authors thrilling Orbs Science Fiction Series. Orbs One was the first book I ever read by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. I have since read every book he has written. I fell in love with this nightmarish atmosphere series and the conclusion with Tony Melchiorri's help is every bit as scary as the beginning. The authors are great at creating an atmosphere and maintaining that world by engaging all the readers senses. With great storytelling and wonderful characters Orbs 4 is a book you will not want to put down. I have also order the Audible Version so with the outstanding narration I can enjoy the next best thing to a Blockbuster movie!

Hang on to your boot straps!!

5 stars is not enough!!!!! As usual, CRACK!!! Right out the park! I was beside myself when I found out this book was in the works. Orbs is the 1st book of Nicks that I'd read and I've been a die hard fan now for years. This book was worth every second of waiting. He and Tony grabbed this story where it left off and took off with it! And it's a damn GOOD read too. Once you begin it's impossible to put down. This story is so in depth without the over inundation of detail that you can't help but be inside the story... READ THIS SERIES!

Kept me up until 2 a.m. all week!

This entire series is the "keep you on the edge of your seat" type, but Orbs 4 : Exodus is the "stay up all night, drinking coffee until your teeth chatter, can't put the darn thing down!" type! It's , bar none, the best book of the series. If you like apocalyptic fiction and sci-fi, you'll love this entire series. So take the week off work, pull your curtains, and turn off your phone, because once you start Orbs, you won't be able to put it down! I thought the Extinction Horizon series was good, but Mr. Smith just keeps getting better!

Even this far into the series I'm just not clicking with it. I do appreciate the author's effort in trying to contribute to this genre and I'm happy that this series is resonating with so many people. Unfortunately I'm just not one of them. I loved the author's Extinction series so I know he's capable, I don't think it's him I have issues with. Rather, it's the characters, the premise and the setup that just killed it for me from the get-go. I tried to get past it but it just didn't offer anything powerful enough at the end of the fourth book to justify the setup.

WOW ! This is an outstanding Sci-Fi thriller. One of the best. The characters continued to develop, becoming real in the reader's mind. The different scenarios, blend together perfectly. I have read the first three books in the Orbs series, they are all great reads. A story like no other. The imagination of this author is amazing forming a mind blowing story. A must read book and series.

Long Awaited, and Worth Every Second!

Whn I first read the Orbs series I was devastated to find out there wouldn't be a fourth book. When I heard that this book was coming out, I was overjoyed. It did NOT let down! This was, by far, the best book to end an incredible series. I will miss every character tremendously. The nail-bitting story line is so captivating that I did not put the book down. Just Wow.

Outstsnding

A really give star book. As I've said before, Science Fiction has never been my genre. However Nicholas Sandburg Smith, and in this case , aided by Anthony Melchiorri, have written a fantastic conclusion to the Orbs series. An intelligent ending to the series, and a fascinating answer to , what if, and, how could we, survive as a species, if aliens, truly did attack our planet. I hate to see an end to a truly fantastic novel.

Non-stop action that will grab you and take you for a wild ride!

I loved this. It was a great way to end the series... but also left the possibility of future episodes if the authors wish. The action was non-stop and the characters were intense. I felt like I was actually along for the ride at times. Nicholas Sansbury Smith has a true gift with storytelling. Not only is the premise unique but the execution is seamless.
