Black Panther: The Battle for Wakanda
The sacred Mound is being attacked by an evil cult, Wakandans are growing angry with their king, and the Avengers have evidence that T'Challa has stolen a highly classified weapon even though he's been in Wakanda the entire time. With some help from S.H.I.E.L.D. and some new faces, Black Panther battles the greatest threats Wakanda has ever faced. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards. Spotlight is a division of ABDO.

“‘We need a leader. Meanwhile, our king is too busy being a Super Hero.’”
This one was okay. It shows Black Panther being torn between taking care of Wakanda and fulfilling his Avengers duties. It was a quick read that kids or Marvel fans may like.

1/6/2019 ~ Oh, the things I read in my quest to find fabulous, engaging texts for the readers in my elementary library. The writing in this book is certainly better than some of the superhero books. If I can find an adequate binding, I'll add this to my collection. It might be a gateway book to turn kids onto reading chapter books. *smiles*

Good story and well written for the age group. I honestly expected less with it being advertised as a chapter book. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The art and little notes in the side lines were great.
The only real fault with the book I had was that some if the color choices didn't mesh well. Each of the speaking lines were in a different color for each character, this would sometimes lead to dark grey font on a black background, but I was still able to read it fine.

Having an amazing reading Snow Day and finished this comic chapter book bought the other day from Mahogany the only black owned bookstore in SE Washington DC just on sight as it looked cool and decided to make it my fourth one read --whew I am now thinking what to include here in this review..first off I am not a real Marvel Superhero fan—I know I know, but my husband is so I have caught snippets and ask him for a lot of backstory I do not know about..that is how I found out about Black Panther’s ties to the Avengers and after being in awe of the storyline and visuals of the epic blockbuster movie I figured this would be a no-brainer interesting read for scholars..I also wanted to learn more about Wakanda and Black Panther so I pre-read this one to see if its recommendable..Alright the story starts with a community against Black Panther/T’Challa for leaving them to the mercy of cultists under the rule of fearsome M’baka while he travels off with the Avengers.. Just as T’Challa is set to explain himself and refocus his attention and energy on his country of Wakanda the Avengers (Captain America, Captain Marvel and War Machine come for T’Challa and summon him to the S.H.I.E.L.D. for questioning on crimes being committed by someone with his same DNA and appearance. Confident that he had nothing to do with it but also frustrated to leave his Wakanda family he goes and uncovers the mystery of the imposter, the secrecy of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the reappearance of his most despicable enemy Ulysses Klaw and his desire to get even with Black Panther for foiling his plans and blowing up his hand.
Black Panther must confront not only the cultists terrorizing Wakanda but also Klaw and his vendetta—all culminating in battle scenes and action that travels through the ten chapters…without giving away too much of the plot and mystery I can say that is very different from the movie, tells a lot about T’Challa and the king and hero he wants to be and was more intense than I thought a Mighty Marvel Chapter Book would be..I had this pegged for third/fourth graders but I can easily see my 5th graders getting the entertainment and challenge from this one as well…My only real complaint and it is huge to me is the color and font choices..jeez..every Avenger and villain have a different color for their dialogue: Black Panther-Purple; Captain America and Klaw: Red; Captain Marvel: Blue; War Machine-Gray and this is fine until you choose a black background ugh it was rough at times..I think keeping pages white would work and taking reader’s eyes into consideration would be nice but I got more from this book than I thought I would as I mistakenly thought it was just an easy illustrated read when in fact there is depth and real storyline here I liked..good recommendation and buy for my school’s library..hope I can keep it on the shelves-kids love graphic novels and its Black Panther too..whew let the reading madness begin I love it!

Black Panther adventure with a different storyline than the movie (good) but also a different back story on how T'Chaka died, who is in the Avengers (Captain Marvel), and what everyone looks like. Oh, and Ulysses Klaw is a totally different guy with different powers. So, a little confusing if the movie is all you have to work from, but still a solid adventure for young readers.

In this excitement of the last Avengers movie, why not publish a bunch of Marvel superhero books? This book focusing on the Black Panther is better than the one about Doctor Strange. It does not hit the reader over the head with the moral. Battle for Wakanda seems to have writing that is a bit more sophisticated, but still within elementary levels.

Ciekawa historia, choć jeśli ktoś Marvel zna z filmów to może się bardzo zdziwić bo dużo rzeczy jest zmienionych.

This story involves a plot to stir up trouble in Wakanda every time T'Challa is off doing Avengers things with the Avengers, which is currently more often than usual because there is an imposter Black Panther running around sabotaging SHIELD installations and beating up SHIELD-agent jobbers.
T'Challa makes some questionable decisions in order to move the plot along, but it eventually builds into a big confrontation with Klaw back in Wakanda, and a chance for T'Challa to regain the confidence of his people.
Several Avengers guest-star, and Shuri gets a decent supporting role.
Those picky about continuity should note that this is based more on comic storyline than the MCU version, but like the Gamora book in this series (I reviewed it here), it definitely tries to play to fans who have seen the films, but have not read the comics.
There were some editing issues, including a mess of a pronoun problem at one point, and the plot left a fair number of unanswered questions.
Still, it did the flavor of the characters well, and hit the right emotional notes in the end.

Totally stole this to read quickly from my sons' book bundle from the library. I like this middle grade entry point to the Black Panther universe with a narrative rather than complete graphic novel, but the illustrations work to bring you into Wakanda while also still seeing the Avengers for which T'Challa belongs.
It's a quaint story that shows the shift in power to T'Challa and his loyalty to his country but also to the SHIELD while getting to know Ramonda and Shuri, Wakanda's allies along with their enemies as the Blank Panther himself has to figure out who the impostor Black Panther is breaking in to steal these rings. Lots of great action in a neatly packaged middle grade that includes different fonts for different dialogue in different colors.

There's crisis Wakanda. The scared Moud is being attacked by evil cult, and Wakandas are angry with their new king, T'Challa aka The Super Hero Black Panther. So it's bad timing when Black Panther is called away by the Avengers. There is strong evidence that Black Panther has stolen a classified weapon! With heip from some familiar faces in S.h.e.i.d. and some new ones like Dora Milaje, Black Panther will battle the greatest threats Wakanda has ever faced. This orphan king will be forced to claw hs way to the thron is th Battle For Wakanda.

As a homeschool mom, I feel this is an excellent book to introduce reluctant readers to types of conflict, plot, setting, and onomatopoeia.
However, Peck says, "For Marvel, this is a bit boring." I couldn't nail him down on anything else. I think he feels the book should compare well to the intensity of a movie.
Shrug. Eleven-year-olds.

3.5 stars rounded down. This was a very standard Black Panther story that tried to straddle between comics canon and movie canon and didn't really make sense with either as a result. I'm not the target audience, but I do think that small kids with only movie exposure would be very scared of the M'Baku presented here, which is a shame.

Thoughts of book: I thought this was a pretty good book. Some parts of it were hard to read because of the page and text colors though :/

Beginning reader introduction to the Black Panther. We learn he likes to make speeches. Includes the Avengers.

I really liked this. I really liked the art and the formatting. I liked how each character's speech had their own font (though it slipped a couple of times).
I liked how it explored Black Panther's relationship between Wakanda and the Avengers. It had a lot more bickering between superheroes than I expected, and went into a few grey areas on secrecy which was a surprise.
The most important thing was that my 7 year old son really liked it

I have always liked Black Panther as a hero, coupled with the death of the Black Panther actor, I began to read this book, the content of this book is very attractive to me.

Great all ages story.

This is not part of the storyline set out by the 2018 movie. In this version, Klaw killed T’Chaka when T’Challa was a boy, M’Baku is a cultist leader attacking Wakanda, etc.
I did not enjoy this story as much as I did the movie. The Avengers were kind of obnoxious, and I didn’t feel like they respected T’Challa’s responsibilities as king, etc. Nick Fury was all the worst parts hinted at in the MCU version of Fury, but none of the good parts. I also didn’t care for how the book was laid out with the colored fonts for various speakers - it felt like the commitment was to that flashy layout over ease of readability or letting the story stand on its own.
For kids who want more Black Panther after the movie, this could be hit or miss. Some will love it and maybe be drawn to the comics for more stories from this version of Wakanda. Some will be disappointed that this doesn’t fit in with the awesome movie they fell in love with.
