They said, Hans Christian Andersen is a good story-teller, a craftsmen of fairy tales. Maybe that was true, but I'll definitely say that Andersen's works is not really my cup of tea.
I do believe that fairy tale doesn't always have a happy ending. Many of Oscar Wilde's and The Grimm Brother's works told me that I was right, and hell I am. Hans Christian Andersen's, on the other hand, someway wasmade for the more tender ears.
There's seven stories in this book and I have to say that many of it wasn't that good for us, adults. It may entertain many younger audience so if you intended to find a tale stories for children, I do believe that this book is highly recommended; sadly I wasn't. I'm that kind of person who seek for another kind of fairy tales; one that full of tragedy, irony, and such. And I can't find those qualities in this book. Yes, there's The Little Match Girl in this book and yes, it's quite a tragedy. But Hans Christian Andersen was a soft storyteller, he wrapped the tragedy with candy.
I don't know, it really is not my cup of tea. Thanks, but no thanks.
