Cute interactive book! The hungry bunny needs your child’s help to reach the apples on the top top of the tree. Your child will learn a bunch of words to help bunny get back to his burrow safely and creatively.

I thought the metafiction and interactive elements would make this fun, but moving the book around was more bother than pleasure, and the particular copy of the book I had seemed to be missing the attached ribbon that was supposed to be used to help the bunny with his apple harvest. Blah.

Following up on her earlier success with Bunny Slopes, the author-illustrator shares a simple story about a bunny in search of apples. The story is interactive, allowing readers to use a red ribbon that represents Bunny's scarf to climb up a tree, head up and down a hill, blow away some leaves, and even push him through a hole deep into his burrow. Once he gets there, he is delighted to be just in time for some hot apple pie. I love the last line of invitation: "We saved a piece for you" (unpaged). The illustrations, created in charcoal and digitally, will catch readers' eyes and keep them moving through the text as will the fact that they are being asked to participate in Bunny's travels. Although the red ribbon didn't charm me the way it will its intended audience, this book still has much to recommend it as Bunny works hard to gather those apples and readers try to help him pick them up. Reading this book calls for a slice of pie, for sure, and youngsters are likely to beg their caregivers to bake one for them.

The little cutie from Bunny Slopes is feeling downright peckish! Can you twist, turn, and blow leaves away from this book to help him gather some apples for his mom to make a pie?

(I hate to tell the little dear that once he gets the apples home, the pie won't be ready for at least an hour and a half. Maybe he could have a cookie while he waits.)

It's just as adorable as the last book, plus this one has a "scarf" to use in the pursuit of the fruit.

How cute!

I thought this type of interactive picture book (sparked by Tullet's Press Here) was out of ideas, but this is a really creative use of the mechanism, especially with the addition of the bookmark.

A young hungry bunny is off to collect apples. With a red ribbon attached to the book to represent bunny's scarf, readers are asked to help the bunny harvest the apples and get them home. With the turning of each page, readers have a variety of opportunities to participate in the story such as moving the ribbon, and rocking and tilting the book. An entertaining picture book that can be enjoyed one-on-one or in groups.

What a clever interactive book! It simply begs to be read aloud. This would be a LOT of fun to use in a library storytime. I love that the hungry bunny is interacting with the reader and asking for help to get some apples from the tree. The use of the ribbon as a scarf and the ways it is used several times throughout the story is VERY creative! Highly recommended!

The bunny's dedication is also very fun: "Bunny would like to dedicate this book to you, for all your help with the harvest."

It takes a lot to make an interactive book stand out these days since more and more are being published, but the addition of a ribbon (like you see in hymnals) and using that as a scarf really makes this one a winner. Clever.

My preschool outreach had a lot of fun with this book, especially with the parts using the bunny's scarf to solve puzzles.

Bunny is hungry. Can your little reader help Bunny pick the hard-to-reach apples from the apple tree and bring them home?

This adorable and interactive book invites little readers to shake, blow, tilt, rock, turn the book and more. And although it doesn’t play a huge role in the story, I love the added fun of the red ribbon as the Bunny’s scarf.

Creators of interactive picture books (magnum opus: #PressHere by Herve Tullet) are increasingly challenged to engage readers. In Hungry Bunny, and its predecessor Bunny Slopes, Rueda captivates readers through innovative text and illustration.

Bunny is hungry and needs help; Can the reader shake or tilt the book to assist him? When Bunny loses his scarf (attached to the book is a red ribbon bookmark) he asks for even more help. Bunny tries his best, remains aplomb, and occasionally asks for help.

Rueda’s - charcoal and digital - illustrations are rendered in different tones of red, yellow, and black. You may recognize her style from the instant hit series, which began with Here Comes Easter Cat, written by Deborah Underwood!

The simple text invites the reader to accompany Bunny on his quest for apples. Each action verb is formatted in a larger font size and colored red. The idioms employed throughout will have readers *cracking up! (*sorry, had to)

Use this book to discuss grit and teamwork. Read it alongside Apple, by Nikki Mcclure, during an autumn storytime. Use the book, with Stuck by Oliver Jeffers, to create funny tree drawings. Appropriate for ages 0-8. Readers that love Christie Matheson will enjoy Hungry Bunny!

This was a very cute picture book, even if it is a bit longer than conventional picture books. The length is understandable, as the text is scattered through the pages and there are multiple full-spread illustrations. Rueda has a way of engaging readers so that they want to interact with the book and help the bunny. I’m certain that her soft-toned charcoal-based illustrations are a major part of that excitement. They convey a warm feeling in their cute old-time look that just reminds you of fall.
The story is moves along at a nice pace and I think kids will still love to read about the adventure of Bunny. The format of the book is what really makes it shine out in all of its ingenious wonderfulness – one of the things that absolutely blew my mind was that the book contains a large red bookmark/ribbon that comes into play as Bunny’s scarf that the reader can interact with. It added another level for readers to be a part of the book. I loved the creativity there, and I cannot wait to see what Rueda comes up with next! I wholeheartedly recommend this book! Please note I received a free review copy of this book.

Claudia Rueda's Bunny is back in his second interactive story ( see Bunny Slopes) and this time he's hungry. And once again, he needs some help from his young readers in order to fill his little wagon up with some red, delicious and hard-to-reach apples. So Bunny asks readers to shake the book, but with all the leaves that fall, readers need to blow on the book to scatter them. Then his scarf blows away, and gets stuck in the book. Retrieved, Bunny wants readers to hold it tight so he can climb up and pick some apples. Of course, there is a red ribbon attached to the book to make this and other Bunny requests easier. This is a fun book and kids will definitely have fun helping Bunny out of all his dilemmas. The story made us all laugh and each one of my kids had to take turns assisting Bunny. Rueda's simple charcoal and digital illustrations are fun and friendly, with touches of red in the apples, Bunny's scarf, and his wagon. We read this book a lot and the red ribbon adds much to the fun. Eventually it can come loose but I just reglued it and that worked. We still read it on a regular basis, along with Bunny Slopes.

A bunny is trying to pick some apples, but can't reach them. Readers are asked to help the bunny reach the apples and get home.

There are now many interactive picture books out there which prompt readers to do things like turn the book at an angle or blow on the pages to help make something happen. This one adds a new element with the clever use of a red bookmark ribbon as the bunny's scarf on a few page spreads. I had enjoyed Rueda's first interactive skiing bunny book, so I picked this up at the public library when I saw it. I read it to my four year old niece and she enjoyed it. If you're looking for an interactive read with a unique twist, a cute autumn animal story, or a book to read before making apple pie give this one a shot.

This sweet, interactive picture book invites readers to shake, tilt, rotate, and more to help a hungry rabbit retrieve some apples and get home safely for apple pie. The book also features a red ribbon bookmark that gets used for some of the actions, for instance, using it to climb the apple tree. I've never seen an interactive picture book do that before, and I thought it was very clever. This book is great for one-on-one sharing, but you could probably also use it for storytime if you can get creative! Maybe give out scarves and have readers use those to follow along with the actions as you read the book? I also like the limited color palette of oranges and reds - perfect for evoking that fall atmosphere. And the last page warms my heart. :)

This is a meta book. Treating the book as an object to play with, as instructed.

* Book lovers, be warned.

* Toy lovers, this toy of a book may not frighten you as much as ordinary books.

Personally, I am no fan of turning a book into a plaything that is an adventure in itself, adorned with as few words as possible.

"Just a book" is plenty for this Goodreads author and book reviewer.

RATING THIS BOOK, THOUGH

Unless I absolutely love or loathe a book, my policy is to rate it in terms of my imagined response of the intended readers. I can see how kids who haven't yet learned to enjoy reading might find a kind of desensitization process benefit from this thing with a red ribbon.

So yes, FIVE STARS.

I read this today during my Toddler Tales program and the kids loved helping out the hungry bunny throughout the book. The book uses great vocabulary (tilt, shake, etc.). The kiddos loved helping push his butt through the rabbit hole!! This book is great for a storytime or a one on one reading. It's perfect for this time of year, we made caramel( puffy paint ) apples, played with apple pie play-doh, and used applesauce to help us write letters! It was such a fun time and this book was a great resource to use.

A bunny wants the apples from a tree but is having a tough time getting them.....what to do. Well, it is time to rock the book, shake the book, help get those apples down!

Then, bunny needs help getting home.

A fun, interactive book, perfect for storytime, Hungry Bunny uses a red ribbon bookmark to also help with the interactive component. What sucks is I wish I could use this book in a LIVE storytime right now. It won't translate as well otherwise. Oh well. I need to keep this one in my repertoire.

A fun and interactive story! A bunny is trying to collect some apples for his mother's apple pie and he needs the reader's help. The bunny asks you to "shake", "tilt", and "rock" the book to help him get to those hard to reach apples. The bunny also asks the reader to use his scarf (the book's red bookmark) to help the bunny solve additional tasks. Simple text and simple illustrations, along with the interactive elements, would make this perfect to read to a younger child. Such a delightful and fun read!

„Гладно зайче“ и „Зайче зад борда“ на Клаудия Руеда (изд. Timelines) са две от онези редки книги, които не просто се четат, а се преживяват активно – с ръце, въображение и смях. Това са интерактивни истории, в които малките читатели вече не са само наблюдатели, а главни помощници на Зайчето, готови да му съдействат във всяка нова щура задача. Thanks to #kidlitexchange for sharing a review copy of this book!
Hungry Bunny by Claudia Rueda is SO ADORABLE! We love interactive books, and this book takes it to a new level! On each page you are turning, pressing, and following directions! The added bonus is a red ribbon attached to the book. You use the ribbon to make a bridge, a scarf and more! The illustrations are delicate and cute! Hungry Bunny will be released in September

A hungry bunny talks directly to the reader to enlist help in getting some apples for a snack. An effective use of color in the illustrations and a built in ribbon bookmark helps us focus on the bunny’s red scarf as we are drawn into the story. We can use the ribbon as the scarf to help the bunny get some apples from the tree! This adorable book will make a fun read aloud for an interactive story time!

A fun little read, with interactive text instructing the reader to do actions such as tilting the book, blowing at leaves, shaking trees, etc. Nothing special till about halfway, when the rabbit asks that you use their scarf to help them-the scarf is a ribbon bookmark attached to the book. That is new! I think children will enjoy laying the ribbon along the red lines to help the rabbit, as well an performing the actions they ask to help them first retrieve then deliver the apples home.

I read this book to my 6 month-old girl and she loves it! I love how interactive this book is, with prompts for us to do certain action as we follow the bunny around. At one point, we were prompted to turn the book 360 degrees and my little girl was delighted. In addition, the book also made use of a red ribbon as a scarf, which was a tool in the story. Fantastic. I borrowed the book from the library and now I have to buy a copy for myself to keep at home.
