5 healthful stars to The China Study Cookbook! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A friend of mine who talks nutrition with me regularly is all about The China Study. I have been interested in learning more because it fits with how I eat (mostly- I still eat dairy, though not with every meal).

I don’t know if it’s just me, but it is much easier for me to eat healthier during the summer. It is hot, I am not as hungry, I am outside more (not eating), and fruits and vegetables are even more plentiful. When I spent some time with the China Study Cookbook recently, I knew THIS would be my cookbook of choice this summer, and I absolutely cannot wait to try out these recipes and start feeling even better again, as a result.

This way of eating is based on research, such as how a plant-based diet helps heal heart disease, eliminate obesity, and lower cancer risk. I am not going to preach a way of eating to anyone (there are so many choices and lots of research available), but I am pleased that if I choose to eat this way, research backs it up.

The author of the cookbook is the daughter of one of the co-authors of the actual China Study, and she has been living in the Dominican Republic, so many of these recipes are inspired by the local food she eats there, as well as the produce available. I happen to love these types of foods, and I can see myself making most every recipe. Not everything is spicy or inspired by the DR, though. There is plenty of variety with all my favorite ingredients. Recipes like Coconut Corn Chowder, Peanut Kale Soup, and Baked Tomatoes Stuffed with Lentils are calling my name asap.

Cookbook details: neatly organized recipe pages, beautiful color photos of every recipe, and lots of background information make this a well-rounded and well-presented cookbook. I especially enjoyed the information on how she raised her children eating a plant-based diet.

I cannot describe to you my excitement and inspiration as a result of reading this cookbook. I wish I could bottle how I feel right now and keep it with me year-round, but until then, I’ll making shopping lists and planning my meal prep for the next couple months! Seriously.

If you are a plant-based eater, you may want to check this out for more inspiration, and if you are like me, you are always looking for fresh recipes. If you are not eating plant-based, but you would like to add more plant-based meals, this is wonderful place to start.

Thank you to LeAnne Campbell, BenBella Books, and Netgalley for the ARC. The China Study Cookbook will be available on June 5, 2018!

Exceptional!!!!! I want a copy of this for myself. I read The China Study several times. I have it in paperback and also on kindle and I do believe it is the way we are designed to eat. I have experienced many health benefits by switching to plant based eating. And as a result, I primarily follow a Whole Foods plant based diet. This has some very good recipes. I can’t rate it highly enough. As I have begun to collect plant based cookbooks this is now one of my favorites.

Highly recommended! Many thanks to the publisher via NetGalley and LeAnne Campbell for a digital edition to review.

BenBella Books and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The China Study Cookbook: Revised and Expanded Edition. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

This plant-based (vegan) cookbook includes information about the lifestyle choice and recipes to tempt the taste buds. There is definitely a health benefit to many of these recipes, with well balanced and tasty offerings. I agree with many of the claims that the author has made regarding eating less processed and less sugar, but the removal of fats - even olive oil - is simply not 100% healthy. I understand taking out the eggs and butter fats from the recipes, in order to preserve the animal free environment, but I am not sure what is truly gained from taking out the fats. The human body needs fats to survive and ones like olive oil have great health benefits.

The China Study Cookbook is a comprehensive look at the vegan diet, from breakfast, to dinner, to snacks, and everything in between. There are recipes such as Scrambled Tofu and Favorite French Toast, which are designed to replicate the more familiar animal based options. Those who choose the vegan lifestyle reject the idea of eating animal products, so I cannot see the point to making recipes that pay homage to the original ones. That being said, there are some standouts like Seasoned Barley Mushroom Soup, so hearty and comforting on a cold day. Asian Ginger Cabbage Salad has a citrus based sauce that is tangy and delicious. Baked Tofu completes the dish, although they could be omitted for a lighter start to your meal. Vegetarians and meat eaters can easily adapt the recipes in this book to include eggs, milk, and oils, giving the finished dishes more of the textures and flavors that they recognize. I would recommend The China Study Cookbook to those who practice the vegan lifestyle or are thinking about ways to incorporate healthier eating into their lives.

"The China Study Cookbook" is a whole food, plant-based (vegan) cookbook with recipes that use no added fat and lower amounts of sugar and salt. Most of the recipes were for 4-6 people and were fairly easy to make. The author started by talking about why she eats a whole food, plant-based diet, about the program she runs, and cooking tips like substitutes for animal products (dairy, eggs) and oil.

There were recipes for 13 breads and muffins (and fruit butters), 23 recipes for breakfast dishes (coffee cake, jams, french toast, crepes, smoothies, oatmeal, granola, pancakes, etc.), 27 recipes for appetizers and salads, 15 recipes for soups, 20 recipes for sandwiches and wraps, 30 recipes for entrees (burritos, pasta, stew, etc.), 25 recipes for sides (beans, beets, corn, sauces, etc.), 23 recipes for deserts (pies, cakes, cookies, etc.). I've tried a few of the recipes and enjoyed them. Overall, I'd recommend this cookbook to people who are interested in adding more whole-food, plant-based meals to their diet.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

I've never read a cookbook where every recipe sounds delicious! There were only 3 that were iffy but only because I'm not sure I can buy it where I live or a new taste I'll have to aquire. The nice part is she gives other veg/fruit/spice you can substitute.
I'm buying this cookbook!! I always check them out from the library before thinking I might like a few recipes & so happy I did with this one.
I'm new to eating plant based foods & trying to like veg more & getting hubby to try new things other than meat based meals. I think I'm going to toss every magazine recipe, delete web recipes I've saved & photocopied & other cookbooks filling my shelves that I never use & make this my new Betty Crocker like go-to cookbook. Clean eating plus declutter my recipes & kitchen book shelf that's a win-win!

I love this cookbook. As a newbie to HFPB cooking, I found so many of these recipes easy, and really tasty. My favorite so far is the Apple Lemon Bulgur Salad. So good. I made the dressings and keep them in my fridge to put a little healthy zip into easy grain and veggie dishes. I like that the recipes are simple and what's really cool, is that I have a lot of the ingredients in my pantry. I have been finding, since I began cooking whole food, that the simpler, the better. I've really started to taste each veggie and love them for their own flavor. You don't really need to add a whole lot of spices and I'm finding that oil was covering up their flavors! I have looked at many WFPB cookbooks, and this is so far my favorite.

I tested one baked good (Orange-Cranberry Loaf), three meals (Aztec Soup, Pecan Ball Subs, and Cauliflower Alfredo), and one dessert (Cheese-less Cake Delight). They were just okay. I know how amazing whole-food plant-based recipes can taste, so this isn't a "my taste buds just aren't used to it" critique. The recipes just felt like they were missing something. I will give them credit for being quick and easy to make, though. That's a big plus.

WFPB, whole food plant-based, is an amazing way to eat. The food looks delicious and the many recipes are fairly easy to make. I am definitely not opposed to incorporating many of these ideas and recipes in my daily life. If you’re going to go complete WFPB, this is the book to guide you in the process. AMAZING!

I love cookbooks although I am not good about following recipe directions to the letter. I will often not have all the ingredients and I don't measure it either but somehow I manage to make it work. I made a few recipes that came out okay. I will be trying more as I love Chinese Food. It is my favorite.

A gifted copy was provided via NetGalley for an honest review.

After borrowing this cookbook from the library, my intention was to try several recipes from this collection. I made the eggplant pasta with fresh local eggplant and Zambri's tomato sauce, accompanied by rice spaghetti. It was really good. I will try and cook some more recipes before returning the book to the library.

This is a beautifully presented cookbook. It explains what a whole food plant-based diet is and how it can help us achieve better health for ourselves and the planet. It is also heartening for parents that LeAnne has also raised her children on this diet.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and BenBella Books for an honest review.
The China Study Cookbook by LeAnne Campbell, PhD is a very interesting and healthy way of using food to improve and instruct the reader in Healthy and Nutritious way of preparing, cooking and consuming food. I have not had the pleasure of reading the first issue of this cookbook but this issue which is the revised and expanded edition is a marvellous book filled with a mine of great information and equally tasty and easy to cook recipes. The beautiful illustrations enhance the recipes so as to show how great the dish can look. I tried the Pumpkin Pie Muffins with Pecans Recipe and they were melt in the mouth delicious. The next recipe I tried was the Vegetable Dumpling Stew which is great for a cold winter's night dinner. I am a great fan of peanut butter so I made the Reese's Peanut Butter Pie and it was enjoyed very much by all the family. I was fascinated by the theory section of this book and I agree partly with some of it. I would recommend this book to readers who are interested in how to eat and live healthfully with a good diet and great recipes to follow.

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Interesting book if you want to get into a non-meat cookbook. Several caught my eye and will give a try, although sadly many have way too many ingredients, and ones not common around here.

I loved this book so much that I bought a copy!

I have been a vegetarian for 30 years. I am so impressed with the wealth of information and recipes and availability of ingredients for a whole food plant based diet.

I read The China Study a couple of years ago and the evidence that eating more plants and less meat and dairy is attributed to a reduced risk of cancer, diabetes and heart disease is astounding.

I was looking for a cookbook that would give me baking recipes that did not include eggs and this one did. And they were delicious! I made the blueberry coffee cake and the coconut oatmeal cookies! We have also tried Apple Lemon bulgur salad. I am looking forward to making the Panana Pancakes this weekend or maybe the Apple Pie pancakes. My husband wants to try to no-egg huevos rancheros and the Apple Gingerbread Upside-Down cake!

I will be posting photos of the recipes I make from this cookbook with info on the cookbook on my social media!

I actually own the original The China Study Cookbook and love it! This one is an updated and revised version with new recipes!

This cookbook is amazing! I first read the China Study book years ago and I was so impressed by the quality of the book. T. Colin Campbell advocates for a plant based diet to improve longevity and quality of life and his famous study is very well backed, scientifically. This cookbook really takes the knowledge you learn in that book to the next level as it includes healthful recipes that can really improve quality of life.

The recipes are fantastic. Relatively simple to make with fairly easy to find and well known recipes. I really appreciate this as a busy mom. I am excited to integrate the new recipes in this version into our diet.

If you eat plant-based or are looking to even make just one of your meals healthier each day, this book is absolutely an essential! There are so many scrumptious pictures throughout too, which is always a plus for me! This book is definitely one of my very favorite cookbooks!!

Even though I have not read the China Study Book, I have read some many good things about it. As i read The China Study Cookbook, I was amazed by some of the delicious and easy to make recipes. I was also more amazed at some of the recipes that hit close to home. Growing up in the Dominican Republic some of the recipes on the China Study Cookbook, such as the Fiesta Potato Salad made with potatoes, beets and carrots, brought lovely memories. Cassava (Yuca) con Cebollas another staple item in our household, especially for breakfast and/or lunch, paired along with a delicious Chocolate Dominicana.

Other items that I can't wait to try are the smoothies. The Mixed Berry Smoothie and Mango Lassi are on my to make list.

Lastly, I found it interesting to learn when shopping for fruits and veggies to buy frozen vegetables and fruits as they often have higher nutrient content than the fresh ones.

I found this book to be very useful, not just in recipes, but in preparing recipes on a busy schedule and tips on better storage of recipes. I often hear how eating healthy can be more expensive or more timely than the quick unhealthy choices many of us make. I think that this book could be very successful in changing that mindset for most individuals who are willing to put the time in to learn to better save them time in the future. Fantastically written and laid out.

I found several recipes in this book that my family will and has enjoyed. The recipes had ingredients that most kitchens have although there were some I was unable to find even in specialty grocery so left those items out and the directions were very easy to follow. Really nice cookbook
