I love the main characters, especially when they appear in the other wonderful series that Gail Z. martin writes as Morgan Brice. Cassidy Kincaide is the cousin of Simon Kincaid, one of the main characters in the Badlands series. She advises the main character's in Witchbane, Treasure Trove, and Kings of The Mountain series. This story is a good standalone introduction to Cassidy and her support group that will make the main series books more interesting. The only thing I don't care for is the reader for this series in the audiobooks. I would like to make a plea to the author to please, please give poor Sorren somebody to keep him warm at night...well, as warm as a 600-year-old vampire can get. Everybody has somebody but him. There must be a gentleman or lady vampire out there that would volunteer. He seems to be way too much alone.

Review:
*I received an ecopy of this book via NetGalley. This has not influenced my review.*

I read this after the first three main books, though I think it could be read at any time without confusion or spoilers. I'm not sure when in relation to the main books these stories take place.

This is another collection of short stories, and once again, each one is basically a mini book in the sense that each is a complete supernatural mystery solved by Cassidy, Teag, Sorren, and their allies. It was a bit repetitive since there's no over-arching plot in the series, and it didn't give a whole lot of extra insight into the characters.

That being said, I liked some of Cassidy's stories in this one more than her stories in the previous collection. I liked learning about the shifters in the story that involved them, and I liked the character who played a big part. A couple stories ended up being a bit personal for the characters, which upped the stakes. There were also three stories from the POV of one of Cassidy's ancestors, about his work for Sorren and the Alliance, which involved more trickery and thieving than Cassidy's work.

Overall, this was an enjoyable collection of supernaturals mysteries. It's kind of mostly a chill read (if you consider the occasional ghost or demon fight chill) about characters you already know and like if you've read the other books, or simply about some quick supernatural mysteries and butt-kicking if you haven't.

*Rating: 3.5 Stars // Read Date: 2021 // Format: Ebook*

More new adventures with that very specialized magical curio shop in Charleston! This very special locale offers an owner gifted in psychometry (by which she sees visions from objects), her partner , a 6- century old Vampire, and her assistant, a witch and hacker. Keeping dangerous objects from the wrong prying hands and saving our Universe: all in a day's work for the staff at Charleston's beloved Trifles & Folly.

Review in English and Polish || Recenzja po angielsku i polsku

Charleston, South Carolina, is one of the most haunted cities in the country. Supernatural peace and order in this lovely city is maintained by a group of friends related in varying degrees to the Alliance: Cassidy, a psychometic, Teag who has got Weaver magic, and nearly six hundred-year-old vampire, Sorren. Working with other "righteous", they must face more and more dangerous threats that Charleston seems to attract like a magnet.

"Trifles and Folly 2" is another collection that complements the "Deadly Curiosities" series by Gail Z. Martin. It consists of three novellas, four short stories and three bonus stories. It is worth noting that to a certain extent the works presented here differ from the pattern that we have seen in the previous collection volume. Let's start with the fact that at the beginning of many new adventures, our protagonists definitely go beyond their "comfort zone", as I would call their store. Thus, the train of events less often than before starts from the items brought to Trifles and Folly, and more often is the result of requests for help, or accidentally coming across a paranormal problem. Undoubtedly, all this allows us to look at the series from a slightly different, broader angle, as well as adds a little spice to "Trifles and Folly 2", differentiates the stories presented in this collection and engrosses us in the universe of "Deadly Curiosities".

And since we are talking about the world of this series, it is worth noting that "Trifles and Folly 2" is of great importance for its building, because it really extends the universe and deeply enriches it. It turns out that it conceals some really fascinating secrets that our protagonists have yet to discover. And since the world created by Gail Z. Martin can surprise Cassidy and Teag, think how strongly it can affect the reader. And I admit that in this volume there are novellas and short stories that in my eyes really change the universe of "Deadly Curiosities", even if I could guess some details concerning it. However, making guesses and finding out about something are two completely different things. Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what I'm talking about, because I would spoil all the fun of reading this collection. But I will tell you that the author referred to my favorite supernatural race and presented the story I will surely never forget.

In a few words I would like to refer to the plot of short stories and novellas included in "Trifles and Folly 2". I must admit that in this respect the book looks even better than the previous one. The readers repeatedly feel that their heart beats faster, the level of adrenaline in their blood increases, and all that because they are completely engrossed in the stories presented here. Let's add that some of them very clearly refer to our ordinary, mundane world, in which there are also monsters, although they are ordinary people. And these "human monsters" and the ease with which the average person can become a victim gave Gail Z. Martin a chance to write some short stories and novellas that show how easily fiction intermingles with reality. It really makes a great impression, as the reader starts to think about certain facts.

I admit that for one of the biggest advantages of "Trifles and Folly 2", something we could see in the previous collection volume, I consider the way in which the author presents the relationship between Cassidy and Kell. I'm not denying that limiting the elements of romance to a minimum has its irresistible charm, as it lets us focus on the supernatural aspects of the series, yet what is the most important to me is the fact that Cassidy doesn't behave like a teenager in love, but she approaches her relationship with Kell very rationally. She doesn't take feelings for granted, as she lets time show whether this relationship has a chance to continue and be permanent. What's more, she follows the principle of knowing her priorities and keeps her most important secrets to herself in case her relationship doesn't work out. You have no idea how much I love her for that.

In conclusion, "Trifles and Folly 2" is simply fantastic. In this volume, we find everything we want, so we read it with undying interest. Despite all the dangers that await our protagonists, we really want to be part of this fascinating, vivid and magical world of the "Deadly Curiosities" series.

Charleston w Południowej Karolinie to jedno z bardziej nawiedzanych przez duchy miast. To właśnie tutaj nad ponadnaturalnym spokojem i porządkiem czuwa powiązana w różnym stopniu z Sojuszem grupa przyjaciół: psychometryczka Cassidy, posiadający magię tkania Teag i niemal sześćsetletni wampir Sorren. We współpracy z innymi „sprawiedliwymi” muszą stawiać czoła coraz to niebezpieczniejszym zagrożeniom, które Charleston wydaje się przyciągać niczym magnes.

„Trifles and Folly 2” to kolejna kolekcja dopełniająca serię „Deadly Curiosities” autorstwa Gail Z. Martin.

Podsumowując, „Trifles and Folly 2” prezentuje się naprawdę fantastycznie.

This is the second collection of short stories from the Deadly Curiosities series, and they’re all easy to get caught up in. The underlying premise is fascinating– who wouldn’t want to know more about a secret alliance of mortals and immortals who work to keep the world safe from dangerous powers and objects? Each plot is imaginative and interesting, and I particularly loved the bonus stories that give readers a chance to spend a bit of time with Dante, an 18th century supernatural privateer with strong magic of his own. I liked all the modern characters as well, and it’s nice to see Teag and Cassidy both growing into their powers and becoming more comfortable with them: they’re clearly no longer the novices they were in many of the stories of the previous collection. Teag and Anthony remain a delight as a couple: their bond isn’t the focus, but it is clear, and clearly a huge support to them both. I can’t really say the same about Cassidy and Kell– they seem to have zero chemistry, and while I appreciate him as a potential asset to the supernatural team, even the hints of their insipidly pragmatic “romance” were too much for me– Cassidy’s strongest emotion in regards to him seems to be a kind of mild worry that he not find out the truth of what she really does for a living which…kinda should be a deal breaker, methinks? Still, overall, a really engaging read.

You are in for a treat or two, three, four, or more. This was filled with some very curious things that had very deadly consequences. Cassidy returned with her unique shop, talent, and friends with much to tell. The adventures were something to get lost in. The narration brought to life what was written on the pages and comfort to the forefront. This became the norm with each not story introduced and carried out. The narration added to the clarity of the vivid imagery being created and carried out by the written words.

Trifles and Folly 2 is the second collection of short stories set in the Deadly Curiosities series and follows the story of Trifles and Folly the antique shop full of odd and dangerous antiques as well as Cassidy, Teag, and Sorren. The book is a paranormal adventure mystery and filled with intriguing items and characters. The book contains ghosts, magic, and paranormal creatures as well as a healthy dose of action and adventure. The book is well researched and well written. I like the overall story a lot and the characters are great. Overall a very enjoyable read.

The more novellas I read from this series, the more I realize I need to pick up Deadly Curiosities and start from the beginning....

If I ever had any doubts about whether or not I should start the Deadly Curiosities series, they were squelched after reading Trifles and Folly 1 and obliterated by the time I finished this collection.

You know that you’re hooked when you can’t even pick a favorite character between the cast of friends. Even the supporting characters are amazing. From one story to the next, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. This series seems to have everything I love about a good urban fantasy. Strong main characters whose abilities grow as the series progresses. Lots of suspense, a hint of romance, danger, great supporting characters who add to the story and so much more. I say “seem” because I have yet to pick up a full length book from this series, but I need to remedy that soon. The shorts have been great, but it’s obvious that a lot happened in between each story. Plus, I haven’t spent nearly enough quality time with Sorren, Cassie and Teag. 😉

I received Trifles and Folly 2 in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the 2nd book in the series by Gail Z. Martin and also the 2nd book I have listened to. This book is honestly as good as the first. I love it when a series starts out great and stays that way. If book 3 is anywhere as good as books 1 and 2 Gail has a real winner on her hands.

The series is about an eclectic antique shop that not only finds unusual and awesome gifts and antiques but they also find cursed and hanted items as well. When they find a cursed or haunted item they try to make the item safe again to be in the hands of others. If they cannot rid the item of the curse they will do their very best to destroy the curse and the item. Sometimes they cause huge explosions ridding the object of the curse which are marked up to natural disasters.

The shop is over 300 years old and a has been passed down through the generations. Cassidy Kincaide is the current owner along with her best friend and co manager Teag, and a 600 year old vampire, Soren. The shop and book takes place in historic and haunted Charleston. This book has 3 novella's and 4 short stories. All of which are well worth taking a listen to.

Trifles and Folly 2 is another great Deadly Curiosities Collection by Gail Z. Martin. The stories included are: “The Final Death,” “Fatal Invitation,” “Redcap, Bloodlines,” “Predator,” “Fair Game,” “Unraveled.” Bonus stories: “Among the Shoals Forever,” “The Low Road,” and “Steer a Pale Course.”

These stories continue Cassidy Kincaide’s, Teag Logan’s, and Sorren’s quest to seek out cursed objects to keep the world safe from supernatural threats. Gail Z. Martin continues to do an amazing job of combining current and past history into her stories. The characters are interesting and skillfully developed. Each tale is unique and entertaining. I recommend Trifles and Folly to people that enjoy urban fantasy mysteries. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is my second visit to the Trifles and Folly antique shop and I enjoyed it very much. I don’t like short stories but because of the flow it didn’t feel like short stories for me. I did prefer the first book in this series but this second book in the series is still a really good listen.

With a wide variety of new adventures this second addition to the Trifles and Folly series.

Amanda Roncini does another amazing job of giving life to Gail Z Martin’s wonderfully imaginative stories.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

Another great collection of stories!

Amanda Ronconi did an amazing job performing these stories. I normally prefer listening to a male narrator, and can sometimes be a bit critical of female ones if there are a lot of male character voices needed. But Amanda did a fantastic job with the many different voices that were needed for these stories. She truly made it seem like there were multiple narrators instead of only one.

I said some of this in my review of Trifles and Folly 1 but it also applies to this collection. One of the things I like most about Gail Z. Martin’s writing is that she really does write her books so that they can stand alone. You won’t feel lost even if you start with a book that’s in the middle of a series. She always gives you the background information you need to fully enjoy the story.

I must note that since this is a collection of shorter stories in the Deadly Curiosities series you do tend to get a bit of repetitive information at the beginning of each story because she does give you that background information which was needed when the books were published individually. I just set the audio on a little faster speed to get through those parts more quickly. If you’re reading this collection with your eyes then it would be easy to skim through the beginning of each new story.

I really enjoyed these further adventures of Cassidy, Soren, Teag, et al. Trifles and Folly 2 is a huge collection (3 novellas and 4 short stories) coming in at 568 pages and 20 hours, 40 minutes. If you don’t usually read such long books don’t let that put you off reading this one. Because it’s a collection of stories you don’t have to devour the whole book all at once. Having said that, I couldn’t stop listening to this once I started. Unfortunately sleep eventually became a necessity so I had to stop for a few hours.

An advanced copy of the ebook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author. I listened to the book via Hoopla.

This is one of those books that gets better as it gets along. The last couple short stories set current day with Cassidy & her crew were my favorite of the bunch & I always enjoy the earlier stories set with Soren & the early days of Trifles & Folly, some of which occur at the end of the collection. The main characters' personal lives flesh out more in these stories and that was great to see, made the stakes more personal for them.

The only problem as the collection went on for me was the repetition of certain aspects, especially the current day ones with Cassidy. I could practically mouth along with the words at times, as she reintroduced herself, her shop assistant, Teague, the mission of the shop & various other characters. Since these stories were originally released sporadically & written so that a reader could understand everything without having read the others, or without having read them recently, it made sense to have all that introductory stuff. But when one is binge-listening to all the stories in a row, those parts get a bit old. One could avoid that just by NOT binge-listening though, and the thought crossed my mind more than once that I ought not to keep listening all at once. So that is a solution - I just kept going because I otherwise was having a good time listening.
So far as narration, I'm not sure about the narrator's accents - there's a few characters with Jamaican-type roots that may or may not be quite right. But generally, I found the narration decent & I never had trouble telling who was speaking.

This is my second journey into this world and I found I enjoyed this one even more than the first anthology. You can certainly start here (and I'd recommend it), but I'm sure this serves as a great accompaniment to the series as a whole.

The set follows the same set of characters, with the main being a touch psychic who owns an antique shop. She works with some other magical and non-magical folks to make sure cursed or other dark objects don't make it back out to the public, but also appears to dabble in un-haunting houses in this set. I really enjoyed all the characters and stories contained in the set, with a particular focus on the very interested inter-personal relationships along the way.

Who would I recommend this set to? Someone who wants a nice, easily digestible story that could either be read as standalone or all together. Someone who likes mysteries and magic, with a touch of paranormal romance thrown in for good measure.

I've read a few of these now, and always enjoy the basic premise of an antiques shop dealing with magical, cursed or otherwise weird artifacts. This collection of short stories and novellas kept me going for a few days, each one working as a standalone but also building on your previous understanding. Vampires and ghosts abound, seasoned with all sorts of other things that go bump in the night and a very nice turn of phrase that made me occasionally snort. (I did notice the same phrasing being used a few times in the intro, but luckily that did not continue.)

In short, this is not to be missed if you like weird, quirky or are looking for something else to go along with Jim Butcher or Benedict Jacka.

Cassidy, Teag, and Sorren are back in another collection of short stories set in haunted Charleston, SC. In this volume, there are ghosts, evil necromancers, shifters, and a haunted serial killer loose in Charleston, not too mention the attempt to bring Krampus in to spank all the bad people located there. After the reader survives the first seven stories, there is a bonus of three stories set back in 1700's Charleston where Dante Morris meets up with his Uncle Evann and Sorren and become pirates in a good cause. Interesting to see some of the past history of Trifles and Folly. Another fun read from Gail Z. Martin. Now I need to hunt up the rest of the full length novels set in this universe.

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this volume!

LOVE, Love it!!! it's completely addictive even if it's several short stories and novella put together once started you just want to continue even if it would be easy to take a break between two pieces as they are not linked to each other it's just so good you want more and more.
Tension is high, lot of paranormal different creatures, great investigation , touch of romance, humour and such a perfect setting you will get hooked.

I did love to discover more about Dante, Cassidy ancestor and i absolutely would love to get even more it's perfect if you have read the main series, you will enjoy those stories and if you are new to the universe this glimpse into a very large universe will just make you want more

to be recommended for sure

Trifles and Folly 2 is another short story collection featuring the characters from the Deadly Curiosities series.
This can be read standalone. It features some short stories and longer novellas and I do love the episodic feel to these stories.

After reading the first collection I enjoyed it so much I now have the first full length novel on order, so be warned that if you read these you may be eager to dive right into the rest of the series just like I have 😊

This book a really enjoyable one, full of fast paced writing and exciting characters and I also really like the cover (I'm sure some of you can see why 😂)

So if you like short stories and a paranormal mix check this one out.

TRIFLES AND FOLLY 2 by Gail Z. Martin, book 2 of the Trifles and Folly,

TRIFLES AND FOLLY 2 is an extension of the Deadly Curiosities, a collection of satisfyingly spooky set of dark urban fantasy tales full of Southern cemeteries, restless spirits, Voodoo, magic, supernatural creatures, pirate ghosts, vampires and vengeance and can be read as a standalone.
Cassidy Kincaide is one of my favorite ghost-busting characters under Gail Z. Martin’s pen. Pages after pages keep me spellbound.

When I think of the deep South, I think of southern courtesy, showcase gardens and hospitality dripping with graciousness. I know that there is a darker side to that hospitality but Ms. Martin's Deadly Curiosities world makes that darker than I hope to ever encounter. I am never going to think about hospitality in the way I used to. Brrrr.... (I got this book from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily leaving a review.)

I'm really enjoying these collections of short stories in the Deadly Curiosities universe. I haven't read many short stories lately, and it's been great to dip into a couple of these shorter works, get my dose of paranormal and antiques all while learning additional background details about the characters, the shop and Charleston as we've come to know them from the novels.

Surprisingly good! Creative, original, entertaining, and enjoyable. Much better than expected, and very worth the time to read. Looking forward to tracking down other books in this series, and other series by this author, as well!

What a great collection of novellas and short stories! Each story is both informative to the series and has evil, spirits and things that go bump. These quick, eminently readable bits leave you wishing there were more.

7 I probably should not have read this one straight after volume 1. I felt that these stories were more horror than urban fantasy so didn’t like endless descriptions of monsters. The repetition became even more annoying. But it was still a fun read.

Excellent short stories set in the world of Trifles and Folly, a very different antique store.

Note: While this is technically Book 2 in the Trifles & Folly series, it works fine as a stand alone. Both books in this series are collections of short stories that belong to a larger series.

I enjoyed this book more than Trifles & Folly 1 because the stories were longer. Some probably count as novellas. I really feel like I got to know the main characters well in this collection. Cassidy & Teag are fully fleshed out as we get to know more about their pasts, their goals, and their choice in pizza toppings (broccoli? really? Ugh!).

I love Ryan and the urban explorers! That’s a great addition. Of course it totally meshes with what Cassidy and Teag do. then there’s also the Episcopal priest – Father Anne. She’s not your run of the mill priest & I really look forward to seeing how her character develops.

And a hint of romance is in the air too. Teag gets a steadfast beau (Anthony) and perhaps there is someone in the wings for Cassidy (Kel). I really appreciate this series staying firmly in the Urban Fantasy genre and not wandering off into paranormal romance. Yep, people have romantic relationships but those relationships enhance the characters without eclipsing the plot.

Shifters! hooray! This was a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed Sorren’s role in this tale. Vampires and shifters don’t usually get along but somebody overstepped by offering violence to Cassidy and Teag. Now Sorren is within his vampire rights to sort out such nonsense swiftly, and without mercy. Good thing that Sorren is all about self control.

The Red Cap tale was fun, as red caps are a small fascination of mine. Then there is that tale of the deadly dinners. That was truly chilling. Imagine inviting a stranger to Thanksgiving dinner, a gesture of generosity. But then one by one all the diners are stricken down. What a way to go!

There’s plenty of ghosts, and an old foe (necromancer) comes into play. Again, Sorren features in that tale, along with the new fascinating Father Anne. A serial killer connected to actual weavings is part of another tale. I was happy to see that Teag is actually interested in weaving and it’s not just a little label attached to his lapel. Some woven rugs become key items in dealing with a serial killer. As a weaver, I especially enjoyed this tale.

The bonuses give us more insight into Sorren and Cassidy’s historical relatives. These were fun and I enjoyed them just as much, if not a little more, than the tales of Cassidy and Teag. After all, there were pirates. Arrrgghhh! 5/5 stars.

The Narration: Amanda Ronconi really shined in this story. She’s got Cassidy’s voice down perfectly. Her male voices sound masculine, including the bonus stories where Dante features heavily. I like her voice for Father Anne especially. The pacing could be a tad slow for some people, but I felt that was just in keeping with Cassidy’s regional accent. There were no technical issues with this recording. 5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Gail Z. Martin. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
