Mike Mignola! Adam Hughes!

The only thing more exciting than pitting Hellboy against this Satanic spin on Santa is the team-up of Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes.

This won Best Single Issue at the Eisners this year – what a thin year it’s been for quality comics! Hellboy: Krampusnacht isn’t bad but it’s your standard Hellboy story: Big Red goes someplace spooky to punch a monster. He’s done it a hundred times before and he does it again here with no variation to the well-defined formula. What so impressed everyone??

Well, Adam Hughes’ art is outstanding for one. Krampus’ initial appearance is unsettling, creepy and wonderfully gruesome, and Hellboy looks

Real cute. Oddly heart-warming. It feels weird to call a comic that deals with a child-murdering demon cute and heart-warming, but it really is.

Kill me, Krampus screams. Hellboy is like "say no more" and "working on it!" and "if you would let me!"

First there is the silence before the storm, the snow makes the sound travel less far.
Then there is a struggle, a big one. Drawn so well, you want to read it twice.
Then there is peace. Peace for the demon and peace for the children. Peace for Hellboy

Hellboy meets Krampus and kicks his ass. Nothing a long-time Hellboy reader haven't seen before, but it's a nice and fun holiday themed one-shot nonetheless. I particularly enjoyed Hellboy's holiday photos at the end of the issue, very sweet.

A really great one shot. I don't have a lot to say about it besides that, but I wish that there was still a current-day Hellboy title.

Recommends it for: Wannabe Gentlemen and Scholars
Styled more as an appetizer than a full course, this one-shot fulfills it’s teleological end, and certainly nothing more and definitely nothing less. Hellboy shows up to take care of yet another demon. Fisticuffs fly. And of course, everything is wrapped up just in time for the Yuletide season with a pretty pink bow to match.

Sip then swill.

Hellboy kills Krampus. Standard Hellboy story, beautiful art, nice little details (Krampus morphing during the story, the kids, Hellboy’s Christmas memories). Looks like 2017 was a really bad year for comics if this was the best one-shot comic out there :( 3 stars only because I’m a fanboy.

This story shows how a graphic novel should be. Simple core, a few words. Enough to capture hellboy's escence.

Instant classic Hellboy

A tale as old as time. If you love Hellboy, you'll love this short tale of Krampus and his love of children.

A good Christmas read

Krampusnacht is a revelation compared to the trite Hellboy holyday special of 2017. A brilliant take on the central European Christmas demon that was such a horror for my mother when she grew up. Great art and a funny twist to a dark story.

Fun short twist on the tale. Great artwork.

Entretenido.

Gorgeous art and backgrounds, a fairly standard Hellboy story otherwise.

Hellboy vs. Krampus

Another really good Hellboy story, but too short in my opinion. Adam Hughes as always knocks the art out of the park.

Decent, if typical Hellboy one-shot, but it deserves 4 stars because of the stellar art - and because of the pictures at the end.

I'm seriously taken by the art by Adam Hughes in this issue.

The story is also touching, but that art is everything.

Hellboy travels to Austria in the days before Christmas to confront a being that wrecked a church, and finds himself up against the darker side of the Saint Nicholas legend.

While it is pretty standard Hellboy stuff, "standard Hellboy stuff" is pretty good. The art in this volume is great. This is the second year in a row I've read Krampusnacht as part of my Christmas festivities, and I foresee it being part of my tradition for some time to come.

Mike Mignola was born September 16, 1960 in Berkeley, California and grew up in nearby Oakland. His fascination with ghosts and monsters began at an early age (he doesn't remember why) and reading Dracula at age 13 introduced him to Victorian literature and folklore from which he has never recovered.

In 1982, hoping to find a way to draw monsters for a living, he moved to New York City and began
