In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts.
In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

This series is so insanely cute, I love Arale so much. Toriyama is good with the laughs, he understands the comedy genius of just being completely stupid. There's shit jokes, boob jokes, fart jokes, and other dumb shit that was somehow super funny. I don't mean to mislead, there's other jokes that rely on funnier stuff. I just think it's cool Toriyama was able to get mileage out of those kinds of humor.

Colección manga recomendada: ''Dr. Slump'', de Akira Toriyama. PLANETA DeAGOSTINI COMICS. 40 tomos. Cómic japonés, manga, ciencia ficción, varios personajes, villa, animales especiales, robots...
Era yo muy pequeña, cuando salía pitando del cole para ver la serie de televisión que no me perdía de milagro, porque corría casi como la prota de la misma.
Su colorido y sus locuras, hacían que la serie fuera inolvidable. Actores de doblaje incluidos.
Más tarde llegaría el manga, que me compré, y disfruté casi igual que en su momento el anime.
Tenemos una historia en la que un tipo al que no creerías capaz, lo es... a ratos. Y de ahí, sale una robot, muy capaz de cualquier cosa (mejor que no sea seria), sobre todo de hacerte reír a lo bestia.
Los personajes se presentan de formas varias: humanos corrientes descarados, entrañables, personajes de 4 patas que hablan y más, aliens, ¿ángeles?, cacas con personalidad, astros que saludan, máquinas que también saludan: ya sean y sea de una forma u otra... personajes que recuerdan mucho, mucho, a otros ya conocidos... Salen hasta el editor y el autor..., y también otro personaje muy familiar de éste último.
El dibujo es encantador, monísimo... aunque se recurra al SD. Y te puedes imaginar la locura en la que te metes por voluntad propia... y no sabes por dónde saldrás ;)

El Dr es un buen inventor, crea cosas buenas....pero en serio las usa para cosas un poco bobas.

Donbe is a fox who comes to the village. He can turn into things magically and tries to scare Arale but it doesn't work. She ends up helping him.
Arale and Gatchan run into a young girl. Gatchan disintegrates a tree. They later go to the girl's house and Arale and Gatchan get dressed up. In a way. In a very strange way.
Senei gets in trouble with a lady cop so he makes an invisibility potion to try to get even. He leaves his underwear showing, though, and a bunch of funny things happen.
A couple of aliens are on their way to take over the earth. They capture Arale and Gatchan. They should have known better. Of course, their butts are on the tops of their heads along with their nostrils, and one of them uses a Brooklyn accent, so they aren't your typical space aliens.
They blow up Mars but before they can do anything to the Earth, Gatchan eats their spaceship.Senbei offers to make then new transportation, but it turns out to be a car.
Arale swallows a mole cricket and starts behaving like a normal girl. Everyone is concerned but things return to normal when the cricket escapes.
Senbei finds a videotape from his father that has instructions on how to make a love potion. He needs to go to Wonder Island to get an ingredient. They confront an ogre king, make the potion, Arale spills it, and a tree falls in love with Senbei.
Senbei invents a machine that can put a person into a book and live out the events in the book, so Arale and Gatchan immediately try it out. It's Momotaro, the Peach Boy story.
Akane and Arale plan to play a joke on Senbei by having Akane dress up to look like Midori, the teacher. This is followed by a funny section where Midori has the kids in class do good deeds.
Suppaman makes his appearance. He 'flies' while riding on a skateboard on his belly. He has a terrible personality. Later he encounters Arale and Gatchan and finds he can't do anything better than they can. Then there's a funny section where Arale goes shopping for ramen and returns with a bra.
