4 Don’t Knock it Til’ you Try it Stars

I wanted to read this book because of the summary. It looked SUPER interesting and super unique. Also I was in a fun reading mood. Buck Naked is hilarious, fun and highly entertaining. I enjoyed it a lot and this will not be my last book by Evangeline Anderson.

Buck Naked is a standalone and is part of the Cougarville series. So, the Heroine is Sadie and she just moved to a town called Cougarville. She’s a single divorced mom and she’s in her 40’s. Typically I don’t read books where the woman is older, but there’s something magical in the air and all of sudden Sadie looks and feels like she did when she was in her twenties! Come on, that’s too good.

Even though she is a single mom, her kids are all grown up, so there is none of them in the book. I was a little disappointed in that because I LOVE single parent books, but that’s okay. So, she’s in this new town and all the men want her for some reason. I’m not talking about men flirting, I’m talking about men fighting and acting crazy to be with Sadie and it’s completely adorable and awesome to read.

Mathis lives next door to Sadie and he doesn’t like her. He once had a mate ten years ago and vowed to never mate again. BUT there’s something about Sadie that makes her so appealing. It’s very hard for Mathis to stay away from her.

I liked Mathis. At times he drove me a little batty because he couldn’t get over his dead ex. The tension between Sadie and Mathis was heavy. Both wanted each other, but Mathis tries very hard to say no.

Overall, this book is really cute. I enjoyed the men fighting over Sadie. I enjoyed reading Sadie trying to figure out what’s going on. I enjoyed Mathis working through his issues. This is a paranormal book, so there’s going to be shifters in this book. I won’t say anymore because I feel like it’s best to discover as you read.

If you are looking for a fun paranormal read, then this one is for you.

Buck Naked was UNREAL.

Yep, I know paranormal romance is unreal but in some cases, I actually start to believe. There's this little part of me that starts to question whether there are shifters, witches and vampires. Well, unfortunately, Buck Naked did not leave me questioning whether shifters were real. This story was definitely UNREAL.

Look, don't get me wrong, I could definitely sign up for some of the stuff going on in Cougarville but there was also some things that would have me running for the hills. Let's put it this way...I'll take the rejuvenation at 40 to look like a 20-year-old again. BUT, not if it brings all the boys to the yard...wanting my milkshake. Especially, if it makes the women in Cougarville turn into screaming banshees. I'll take the young body and leave the sex appeal for someone else I think.

Anyways, the other part that had me shaking my head at Cougarville, was the matings and courting rituals and rules and assuming that a newcomer to the town knew them already. How the bloody hell this chick was supposed to know that she would start wars just by stepping into the Piggly Wiggly, is beyond me.

Buck Naked deals with some tougher issues. The heroine is going through confidence issues because her ex-husband traded her in for a newer model. The hero has been in mourning for 10 years because his mate died and he made a promise to never fall in love or mate again. This made me hesitate because I found it hard to see him move on. Yes, it had been 10 years but he meets and "falls in love" within days. Not great, believable or romantic to me.

I'm rambling again. Sorry. I just found there were too many things that made me snort and snigger to really get sucked in. On the plus side...when we finally get to the steamy scene, it definitely got my heart pumping.

So, Buck Naked was OK but not great for me. Not sure I want to head back to Cougarville anytime soon.

Well, don't I wish I'd woken up on my 40th to perkier boobs, a tighter arse and no grey hair. Sod the Pandora, chocolate and perfume, perky boobs for the win.

"...his kind mated for life and he wasn’t about to forget his wife and his love for her just because she’d been gone for a while."

I grabbed Buck Naked totally based on the blurb and the fact that I am fond of a shifter romance. And whilst Sadie and Mathis had a great push/pull chemistry and a story which started out well and showed promise, as it progressed it began falling into the underwhelming category as it lacked in terms of depth and development. And then there was the intimacy and dirty talk.

"Love to fuck you and fill you up. Love to come inside you and breed you."

description

Now I like a dirty talker as much as the next person but I have to be honest here, that really didn't flick my switches. At all. Let's just say some things are better off left unsaid.

It wasn't a difficult read, it just could have been much better which was a shame as there was potential. That said I have been left curiously tempted by the next book.

Starting over takes on a whole new meaning!

I’ve read so many of this author’s futuristic romances that I pounced on this new paranormal offering. And I wasn’t surprised that this shifter romance was a unique take in this genre. Honestly, I love a good shifter romance. Does it push believability? Of course it does but that is part of its appeal. It takes me out of my four cubicle walls and into a reality I can’t even fathom. Though would like to! So when the unthinkable happens to someone as seemingly every day as, well me, I sit up and take notice….

Sadie is a middle-aged, divorced mother starting over in a new town. And that’s where anything resembling normalcy ended for her. Seriously, the introduction to the shifter world was nothing like anything I’ve ever read before. And I’ve read maybe one or two (or a few hundred) shifter romances – I may have some knowledge in this area. Bears, wolves, and now a buck… Sadie has no idea what is in store…
And meanwhile Mathis, an alpha shifter, is doing everything he can to stay away from anything even resembling a shifter romance… He’s wallowing in sorrow and regret and is not going to put himself – or anyone else – in a position of losing again… If only his instincts, his heart,/I>, would feel the same…

“I feel different than I did before we made love. I feel….whole.”

Be prepared for good story-telling and a romance that bucks the trends and the first in what I hope is a long series. -Diane, 4 stars

Ok, a 40 year old waking up one day looking like she is in her 20's again??? Yep, I'm sold. How do I make this happen?

This was a unique approach to an overpopulated theme. I love the idea that an older woman wakes up going through a rejuvenation stage once her shifter gene kicks in. All I can think about is how I would do a lot of things different if I can turn back time and start over and Sadie is getting that chance.

Sadie is fresh off a divorce and moves into her mom's cabin in Cougarville. She wakes up to changes to her body and reactions from the town folk that make her feel like she's in the Twilight Zone. Sadie has no idea that she carries this shifter gene. She's new to town and doesn't understand why all the men in town are looking at her like she is their next meal and the women are outright hateful towards her.

The reaction of the town folk towards Sadies new scent was pretty comical, especially since she has no idea what's going on. I loved both main characters in this story as well as the side characters. My only negative about this story was Mathis's constant refusal to the idea that Sadie was meant for him.

Mathis has had a life mate who sadly passed away not long after being mated to him, over ten years ago. He believes his kind is not allowed to mate more than once and constantly refuses Sadie. While I understand he was trying to not hurt her, it wasn't the only reason he held back. His dead wife was a big part of this story.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and it was a fun read with a little bit of seriousness to it. ARC provided by Netgalley.

Ok so I've read a ton of shifter books and yes they are fun but you know what? It's really hard to find something fresh and completely different . Well this book certainly grabbed my attention because it's a mature heroine (hurrah) and there's a completely original almost prehistoric slant in the origins , oh and the shifters are anything but boring! In fact I don't recall ever reading about a guy who shifted into a supposedly extinct Irish Elk! Yes this Alpha Buck truly surprised me.
I don't wish to discuss the plot too much but Sadie is a twin with no idea that when she retreats to an isolated town she's about to come face to face with a world of paranormal creatures. Add in the fact that she's one of them and it makes for some very interesting confrontations. I think that was what really tickled me as Sadie had no idea just what was going on and why everyone freaked out the way they did. Now add in her somewhat grumpy neighbour Mathis and Sadie really is confused. Mathis can clearly stand on his own and won't be pushed around but the author made him a sweet, sympathetic character . His ( eventual!) interactions with Sadie allowed the reader to understand his worries, his loss , his hesitation but fear not as Mathis is no slouch and comes through for this woman who needs a whole lot of loving!
Yes it's an erotic story but honestly the author didn't just pile in lots of titillation to get her readers hot, no there's an interesting idea here that's fleshed out. I really enjoyed the comedic side of it as poor Sadie is so out of her depth at times. Best of all is there's clearly a character waiting in the wings who needs taking down a peg or two and I strongly suspect that fur will soon start to fly!
It's always hard with the first book in a series as so much world building has to be laid out. Obviously with this one there's the lore surrounding the shifters too however the romance came through strongly and for this reader it was a heart warming ending that truly satisfied my romantic soul.
A copy of this book was provided for me which I've voluntarily read and these comments are my own honest opinion

Mathis and Sadie

Another shifter series. This time, the series is written by one of my favorite authors, Evangeline Anderson. I haven’t read any books by her that I don’t like, so I was expecting a lot from this series to be honest.

Let’s start with the things that I loved:
1. A new generation of shifters that come from Prehistoric times with men that can transform into creatures that they have been extinct for about seven thousand years.
ORIGINAL IDEA – CHECK!
2. Women in their 40s and 50s who are potential mates of these creatures and can rejuvenate and become 20 again. Young and healthy.
ORIGINAL IDEA – CHECK!
3. The older woman and younger man trope which I absolutely love.
NOT AN ORIGINAL IDEA, BUT ALWAYS A WELCOME IDEA – CHECK!
4. Many funny scenes, when poor clueless Sadie does not understand why men don’t leave her alone and why women are such bitches.
FUNNY BITS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED – CHECK!

So I have to admit that this was a very pleasant shifters’ story with many surprising elements that made me very happy.

The thing that did not make me happy; it was the Mathis’ persistence of the memory of his dead wife. After a while I was fed up with his efforts to keep Sadie away like she is responsible and she should be ashamed for the fact that he is attracted to her.

This is a brand new series by Anderson and one of the things I liked about it is her shifters. Instead of being the normal cat, wolf, bear. Instead she has created a mythology where the shifters turn into prehistoric animals. Like our hero in Buck Naked is an Irish Elk and some of the other characters are cougars but prehistoric style. It adds a nice twist to tried and tested genre.

At this point I have read a lot of Paranormal Romance, especially shifter based one they are some of my favourites. But this is the first time I have read one where the shifter in question was an elk. At first, despite the hero being the ruggedly sexy lumber jack type, I was a little deflated. I imagined a dainty Bambi like creature. Then I googled prehistoric Irish Elk, which is what he shifts in to and wow, I started to get back on board. Despite not being a predator the Irish Elk was a creature no one would want to tangle with, it looked fierce and majestic.

So, now over my elk worries I fully embraced the story. I’ve read and enjoyed Anderson’s work before and this was no different. Buck Naked was a sexy, fun little number involving a middle aged woman mysteriously getting the body of her youth back and exploring her wild sexy side with a younger man. Overall it won’t be anything that if you’re familiar with the genre, that you hadn’t read before but it’s a nice addition to paranormal romance.

Buck Naked is a fun sexy romp that was just hard to put down. I am a big fan of paranormal romance and just about anything shifter/were related. I say just about because I came across a book with weremoles and it wasn't some cheesy horror mashup like ATTACK OF THE MOLE PEOPLE . What I am saying is that I love an author who can take an established genre and put an interesting spin on it . The author accomplishes this beautifully in the first installment of the Cougarville series.

The brooding hero (Mathis) and the rejuvenating heroine (Sadie) were well developed and worked well together. Though, I'm usually not a fan of insta-love it works with the time line of the story. Mind you, when I say insta-love (in this case) it took a little more than a moment to get there. in some cases, the hero is a little too stubborn but this characteristic suits his character well. Due to his stubbornness, the idea that hero loved his heroine left a question mark for awhile. Rest assured by the end of the story they both work it out and the author is busy getting the readers interested in the second installment of series.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Once in a while you come across books that completely surprises you, and "Buck Naked" was one of them.
The story of Sadie and Mathis takes place in the fictional town of Cougarville, when Sadie at 40 moves post her divorce to start a new life.
She notices her body getting younger, i.e. Breasts perkier, skin tighter and realizes she's de-aging; later learning about "rejuvenation".
Her self assessment is also viewed by Mathis, who's been on self imposed celibacy since his mate passed away years ago.
Mixed is in a disgruntled town because of the "Juvie" pheromones (the heroine gives them off and every male gets sups horny), a helpful healer/ chemist, a villain? In form of Keller, LOADS and loads of breeding and dirty talk and hot sex.
It's a typical well written Evangeline Anderson smut, and tbh I really enjoyed it because
- omg the excessive amount of breeding porn in here
- She made an absurd but novel idea about rejuvenation make sense
- She made a buck/stag seem sexy!
The story does drag a bit towards the end when Mathis is reluctant and pushes away but picks up with Samantha and Keller- and makes you excited for their story.
Overall, super impressed by this new story by one of my fav authors.

I wanted to try this one because I have a weakness for shifters and based on the cover and title, our hero shifts into a buck! Or actually, he shifts into an Irish Elk. They turn into prehistoric animals - the Irish Elk has been extinct for seven thousand years. Another man changes into a Cougar from the Paleolithic era. I liked this twist and wish it would have been explored more. Either way, it sounded a little different.

Sadie has just turned forty, her kids are out of the house and she is recently divorced. Wanting a new start in life, she moves to the small, rural town of Cougarville to an older cabin left to her in a will. It's in the middle of nowhere except for one grumpy neighbor. She decides to open a small CPA firm on main street and hopes to settle happily. But happiness will have to wait. Unknown to Sadie, she is a shifter who is just about to start her rejuvenation, meaning her shifter gene is about to go into effect. She noticed her wrinkles go away, her butt and boobs get firmer and her grey hair disappears. Odd, she thinks but doesn't have an explanation.

Well, maybe Samantha was right and her body was just reacting favorable to her recent divorce from her ex. Maybe it was a - What did you call it? One of those things that happened to your body because of your mind? Oh right - maybe it was a psychosomatic reaction to getting away from Jeff.

Cougartown is pretty much all shifters, and when Sadie goes out, the unattached men in town all start craving her, and the women in town all start hating her. Sadie has no idea why each shop owner kicks her out, and why each woman wants to fight her. They hiss "Juvie" under their breath and she ends up very confused and lonely. The only person that will give her the time of day is her neighbor, Mathis.

Mathis is the Elk shifter and is very curious as to why an unattached juvie is living next door to him. Mathis lost his mate ten years ago and has vowed to never love again. But his Elk is very attracted to Sadie and he starts to go into rut. When Sadie shows up starved and freezing, he cares for her and starts to protect her from the towns people (by rubbing his scent all over her.). They have such a connection, it's hard for Mathis to not kiss her or do other things, and when he does, he feels extreme guilt over his dead mate. Will he move on?? Will Sadie ever discover what she is?? Spoiler alert - yes and yes *wink*

This is a goofy little story that was a fun read although a little too goofy at times. Sadie doesn't know for quite a while that she is a shifter and that part actually worked well for me. Her confusion and eventual realization of what she is played out pretty well. I liked her attraction to Mathis, who is a huge, grizzly type guy with a heart of gold. He pines after his dead mate, but his feelings for Sadie eventually win out. Because he was with his late mate for such a short period, he is able to find another soul mate.

Not in the ten years since his Kathleen had died had he gone into rut. And he didn't intend to break his record now.

Unfortunately, his cock had other ideas.

Damn cocks and their pushy ideas!

Did I love that the a forty-year old heroine had to lose her wrinkles, grey hair and saggy butt to find love? Not really. I also thought Sadie didn't really act forty. Not that I thought she was a teenager running around, but I don't know - if I had no idea what her age was, I would have guessed more around 25. It didn't feel to me like she already had kids and a previous marriage. She felt more fresh and new in life (and yes, I understand she was kind of starting a new life as a shifter).

The story moves along at a nice pace and there is the expected villain who tries to alpha his way into Sadie's life. She finds friendship in some of the people in town and I most likely will try the second book.

It’s no secret that I love paranormal and sci-fi reads. I’m familiar with Ms. Anderson’s Brides of the Kindred series so I thought Buck Naked sounded like loads of fun. It ended up being my version of paranormal kettle corn, sweet, funny in places, but with not a lot of substance to it.

I liked Mathis and his grumpy on the outside, marshmallow on the inside attitude. He was cute and somewhat sexy, although I did think he was a bit shortsighted on how to fix Sadie’s problems, especially once the true consequences of her not finding a mate were disclosed.

As for Sadie, her naïveté got on my last nerve. This mistreatment she got from the town would have had me knocking heads together and leaving, or at least being more vocal about my questions of what the eff was up with these people. She just kept fumbling around, setting herself up for more abuse.

The world building was interesting and had quite the little twist on a usual shifter world. These people don’t just turn into your everyday animals, they turn into huge, scary, prehistoric animals. I thought this was a cool as hell take on shifters and then throwing in a badass Irish elk was just the icing on the cake.

There were more than a few things that made me go “hmm”. I kept wondering how you could hide large groups of people or in this case an entire town that turned into huge prehistoric creatures. With technology as it is today, how did they keep that under wraps? Also, the whole rare female “juvie” thing—with their rarity, I didn’t understand how there would be enough procreation going on to carry on the race.

If you can turn off your plot hole meter, this is a fun, cute little read. I don’t have a plot hole meter off switch so for me, this was sweet, but not quite what I wanted it to be.

Rating: 3 Things that make you go Hmm stars.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

'Buck Naked' by Evangeline Anderson is book One in the "Cougarville" series. This is the story of Sadie and Mathis.
Sadie is now single after getting divorced. With that change Sadie has decided to move to her mom's old cabin in Cougarville that was left to Sadie and her sister. Now that she has arrived and started a new business she is starting to feel physical changes that she thinks at first are just her new self after the divorce. But now nearing her 40th birthday with two grown kids in college she looks in the mirror to see someone that looks 20 years old. In addition, the whole male population seems to be after her except her neighbor Mathis.
Mathis has lost his wife 10 years ago and feels that was his one true mate...his only mate. But then Sadie comes to town and now he is finding it hard to fight his growing attraction to her. When after a incident with Sadie cabin Mathis starts talking to her and he realizes she doesn't know that she is in a "rejuvenation stage" of her life...nor that she is a shifter herself. Mathis tells her what is happening to her but also tells her again that he already had his life mate and will not take her.
Can Sadie come to turns with what is going on with her? Will Mathis change his mind before someone else takes her to mate?
This is a fantasy type romance to the fullest so please be aware of that. For me it wasn't a problem as that is why I read romance book to get a break from reality of life sometimes.
I can't wait for the next story that hopeful with be about Sadie's sister!

Sadie Becker is starting over, mother of twins who have gone off to college and now divorced she has moved herself to Cougarville, NC. It doesn't take long for Sadie to notice she seems to be aging backwards, at forty she has grey hair, sags in places she doesn't want and crows feet, they are gone though and she can't figure out why. Her new neighbor Mathis is anything but friendly to her and when she goes to town to get a feel for the town, she is stuck by the treatment she receives.

Sadie doesn't understand she has moved to a shifter town or that she is changing for a reason. Mathis made a promise to his wife who passed and he doesn't plan to break it, but he is feeling an overwhelming attraction to take Sadie of his mate. Will Sadie be able to change Mathis's mind to take her as a mate before it's too late?

First in the Cougarville series. This was a unique take on shifter stories and I don't want to reveal too much as to what is going on with Sadie. The story set the tone for future books and am anxious to see what happens next. Mathis was intriguing, he is gruff initially because of his past and you understand why. Great book, always love an Evangeline Anderson book.

I must confess, I haven't read a book by Evangeline Anderson in a very long time. Unfortunately there is way too many authors and not enough time to read them all. But every once in a while something catches my eye and I just have to read it.

That's what happened with Buck Naked. I kept seeing the cover on Facebook in my feed and thought, I really wanted to read this one, and that was before I knew what it was all about. Let me tell you that the second I did, I couldn't wait to jump into it.

I mean, how could I not? It turns out that Mathis is a Irish Elk shifter!!! That's right, you heard me correctly, a Irish Elk shifter. Look the Irish Elk up, I did right away. Man these guys are big.

Of all the paranormal sub genre's out there shifters are my favorite. I just love reading about them. So to be able to read a genre that I love, but with a surprise, I was in seven heaven!

So lets talk about Buck Naked. I just love this title! And it turns out I ended up loving the book too! Just the idea that Mathis shifted into a Elk was different and exciting. Right away I fell in love with Mathis, he's was just so sexy!!! Sadie, took me a few more minutes. That could have been because she was Mathis love interest.

I think we should leave that alone!

I did really feel bad for Sadie and all she went through with the town. I do wish the author added more to that part of the story. Maybe we'll learn more in the next book. Fingers crossed. If you're looking for a great paranormal, then this is your book, or should I say series? I'm really hoping we'll have tons more.

Mathis and Sadie's story is so much fun and sexy to read. It will leave you wanting more about the people of Cougarville.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I got a review copy of book 2, and I wanted to read book 1 first, so I bought it. No one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

This is the first book in the series. It is for adults only due to the graphic violence and steamy scenes. This is my first time reading any of Evangeline’s work.

This is definitely an interesting and unique world. Like Sadie, I was lost as to what a Juvie was and what this new world was about until Mathis explained it. You really feel and understand what Sadie is going through because you were just as confused. Mathis is gruff and standoffish, but you don’t understand until later when he tells his story. Keller is really a jerk, and I’m not sure I even like him. We will see if he redeems himself in the future. Sammie is pretty cool, and I love her spunky attitude. It will be interesting to see if she will follow her sister and become a Juvie.

Evangeline does a fantastic job making the story come alive, and I can definitely see this series getting better and better. It takes me a couple books before I really mesh with a new author’s style and writing. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.

I recommend this series to any shifter fan who wants a unique new world that isn’t the norm.

5 Stars for such a hot Buck!

OH MY GOD!!! Love Love and more LOVE for this book!

Guys I didn't read it I savored it. The story, the characters, the romance and the sexy, swoon worthy are very very well done. All the sex scenes got me so hot and greedy!

Evangeline Anderson really did a great job with Buck Naked! Mathis (Such a sexy name) is very hot and sometime also cute with that dirty mouth of his. Man, things that came out of his mouth was making HOT! I like Sadie too. She's cute and never afraid to ask for what she wants. You all need to read this book I assure you, you not gonna disappoint. Looking forward to the next book! I'm waiting for you Liam!

Sadie the human? and Matthius the shifter,
Some twists on the usual shifter genre in this town full of shifters.
Sadie moves to a cabin outside of town that she recently found out her mother had left to her and her sister when she died years ago. Now turning 40 and recently divorced from her philandering husband, she had no where else to go. But once she gets there her promising new beginning takes a decided turn for the worse. Everyone in town is treating her like a pariah, including the uncommunicative grumpy mountain man next door.
To top it all off, she is finding herself looking quite a bit younger (like 20 years younger)!
There are a lot of OTT ridiculous plot points in this one that you just need to take in stride to enjoy the story. I did enjoy the story.. especially the build up to the 'big reveal' of why all this craziness is happening in response to her presence.
Matthius is a grieving widower who has promised to love no other, and there are some shifter-lore reasons for this as well. But essentially he spends 2/3 of the story pushing her away and waxing on about his first love, Kathleen. The h actually APOLOGIZES for making him feel torn up about his attraction to her!!! wtf? I hate that in stories but it's all up to the author to then convince me that the h isn't forever second best. In some ways I was convinced but not a 'personal' level. I didn't feel the author dealt with the issue at all
So overall it was entertaining/amusing but didn't really live up to my expectations.

What a brilliant idea - imagine moving home and waking up not only feeling but also looking half your age - stretch marks, wrinkles, saggy bits all gone! That’s what happened to Sadie Baker in this story, the first in a new series by new-to-me author, Evangeline Anderson. This is the first story in a new series and had me laughing out loud. Sadie Becker is turning forty, has recently divorced and, as her twin offspring move to college, she’s moved to her Mother’s old home in Cougarville, NC. The move includes setting herself up in business and the strain of moving to start afresh is having an astounding affect on her - she’s no longer looking forty, instead she looks more like she did at twenty years old! That’s not the only surprise. She accidentally parades naked in front of her neighbour, the resident of Cougarville seem to have weird reactions to her and something strange is definitely going on as the men seem overly attracted whilst the women are hateful, spiteful or downright rude! She can’t imagine what is happening or why.

This story has a great range of characters, from Sadie and Mathis to the lady who runs the local pharmacy/chemists to the town Mayor, Sadie's sister and many others, too. There are a shifters, the Moon goddess, myths and beliefs to be discovered in this hilarious read which I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances with great twists. I’m not going to type anything more as I’ll end up giving spoilers and you really need to read and enjoy this for yourself -I can't wait to read more in the series!

I requested and received a copy of this story via NetGalley and this is my honest review after reading it.

Though I liked the beginning of this read, I eventually had to list it as a DNF. The story was okay and I liked the characters well enough, but some of the wording, such as "rut", kept getting in the way of my enjoyment. I know the characters were shifters and I'm not usually squeamish about word usage, but this one just didn't sit well with me. Also, some of the character actions seemed a bit immature for their age and some of the dialogue was off-putting. I ended up putting this one down more than once and forcing myself to come back to it, to try and finish it. I called it quits at 40%. This one just wasn't for me.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I've had a few problems with this author in the past, so when I was approached to review this book, I agreed to do so with a fair amount of trepidation. I am very pleased to say that this story completely blew me out of the water!

I found this to be a very unique take on the shifter sub-genre of Paranormal romance, a genre I really don't read much of anymore. There wasn't much world building done early on, so the reader is just as clueless as Sadie is, and learning things when she does. I found that to be a interesting way to draw the reader into the story. The focus wasn't on sex in this book, though it is discussed often. I thought that the relationship was the real focus, and how they wanted each other, despite the hurts in their pasts that made them wary of doing so.

The characterization was very believable. Mathis was a great tortured hero, both loyal and protective. Sadie came off as slightly clueless the entire book, but I think that was intentional and logical, because of what was kept from her knowledge. I also like seeing the townsfolk and Sadie's sister Samantha, and would love to see a book featuring Samantha!

Overall, I was really impressed by this book! It kept me interested enough to stay up entirely too late reading it, and brought me to the point of being a fan of the author. I will definitely continue on with the series and would purchase a Kindle copy for myself as well!

Buck Naked is the first book in the talented author, Evangeline Anderson’s new series Cougarville. I really liked this book and thought that it had something different about it than her other series. It wasn’t the usual shifter cats or wolves, but it wasn’t an animal that would make your cringe reading about “shifting”.
The story is about the sexy, but relationship shy Mathis who is an Alpha Buck Shifter and the recently divorced 40-year-old Sadie Becker.
Mathis lost his wife ten years previously to cancer and promised he would never bond with another ever again. He keeps to himself and likes it that way, but this all changes when he finds he has a next door neighbour and something insides starts stirring like it never has before.
Sadie has recently inherited her mother’s house in the quiet small town of Cougarsville and decided to set up shop as the local accountant. At the start she can’t understand why everyone is so hostile with her or why the men in the town seem to have lost their minds and want to seduce her. That and the fact her body seems to be rejuvenating to her youthful body she is confused and ready to leave town.
After one accident too many Sadie learns the truth about Cougarsville and what is happening to her. She barely believes that she could possibly be one of these rare juvies the townsfolk are talking about but is forced to believe everything when she is left standing in front of Mathis in his shifting form. They both fight their desires for one another, but deep down know the attraction is far more than lust alone.
Sadie’s twin sister, Samantha arrives after not being able to reach Sandie and is lured in to the local bar and grill owned by the loyal town mayor aka rival alpha shifter, Keller who happens to want Sadie for himself. The sisters are locked up in the hopes that Sadie will give into the desires of the moon (which are calling her to mate as part of being a juvie) and let Keller claim her. Mathis calls his claim to Sadie and a fight ensures and although Keller loses this fight I suspect that his turn for a mate is coming shortly.

Tales From The Heart ~ Leanne's blog review from NetGalley

This is the beginning of a brand new series by this author and I can't wait for the next one. I'm a fan of Shifter and other paranormal novels and this one is a winner.
Sadie is new to town and weird things start happening to her, her body is growing younger and the townsfolk are acting strangely around her. Her neighbour Mathis tries to avoid her but the connection is growing. Once she finds out the truth, things start heating up for her and her sexy neighbour. Her sister comes to town and I'm hoping hers is the next tale.
The shifters in this series are a little different to the norm making for some eye opening revelations.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

Evangeline Anderson has just rocked the paranormal romance/sifter genre with her first book in the new Cougarville series! She may have written plenty of other genre rocking books, but being the first of hers I have read, I declare it will not be my last! This shifter romance was completely original to everything I have read in the past, introducing new shifter types and giving a storyline that gripped me from beginning to end.

Unlike all my previous shifter loves, Anderson gave me a whole new take on the genre. As a woman enters what humans would classify as menopause (between 35 and 50 years old), those with latent shifter genes can go into a state of rejuvenation. The clock starts going backward and their body becomes that of a 20 year old again. Who the hell wouldn’t love that?! When this happens the female needs a male alpha shifter to satisfy their, *cough cough*, needs and perhaps knock them up to continue the shifter lines. Except going through the process makes her irresistible to all males within smelling distance, drawing them to the female like bees to honey.

Sadie is one such female, except she has no idea of what she is becoming. Freshly arriving in Cougarville to move into the house that was willed to her and her twin sister after their mothers death, she doesn’t understand the rudeness of all the females in town or the fights she evokes between males everywhere she goes. Not to mention the sudden return of a much younger body on her 40 year old, mother of college kids, frame. Add to that a extremely hostile neighbor who just accidentally saw her naked, not a good start to her new life.

Having lost one mate, Mathis knows he can’t ever try again. His kind mates for life. One shot. The death of his mate has left him a bitter, lonely male who lives life in a solitary existence. Now a female in the throws of rejuvenation has moved in next door and her delectable scent is arousing him in ways not even his mate did. Knowing falling for her would be a mistake that could have deadly consequences he tries to keep his distance but Sadie is causing trouble all over town and his protective instincts are causing him to say and do stupid things.

Oh boy, these two were magic together. Add in Mathis’ shifter, a giant prehistoric elk, and I was hooked. I love finding new types of shifters and the idea of prehistoric ones was just too good to pass up. The whole town was brought to life so well, and the secondary characters are intriguing and well fleshed out. Mathis was giant and wholly alpha without being a huge asshole, so that was a plus for this as well since I wasn’t in the mood for an alpha-hole. I also loved the fact that Sadie was a mature adult and was cautious to begin with because of it.

I can’t wait to get to the next book, Cougar Bait!

I give Buck Naked by Evangeline Anderson 4 stars!

Okay I freaking loved this book! Totally unique storyline and I love, love, love having a 40 year old heroine! There are plenty of curvy BBW heroines but what about us middle age gals? We need some loving too! Well have no fear ladies, Evangeline Anderson has our backs with this series. The idea of a dormant shifter gene that kicks when a woman hits late 30's to early 40's ONLY if they aren't already in an established relationship (no leaving significant others or children) is absolutely fascinating. To have your body change back into how it was in your 20's? Wow! Who wouldn't love to have that happen? But, all those changes come with a price. A rejuvenated (aka Juvie) woman needs to find an alpha to mate with before the next full moon or she will die. Sadie can't believe the changes that her body is going through nor can she understand the over the top reactions the men in Cougarville are having to her.

Mathis broke my heart. He lost his mate 10 years before and because of what kind of shifter he is, he believes that he can never form a mate bond with another woman ever again. But because he is an Alpha he can restrain his impulses around Sadie, just barely so he takes her under his protection to try to save her from the unwanted advances of the other shifters in town. He is drawn to Sadie and the more time that he spends with her the stronger his feelings become for her. Let me tell you, these two struggled hard for their HEA. Sadie, because she had no clue what was going on and Mathis because his animal is only able to mate once in their lifetime.

I loved the whole premise of the story, the world building was fantastic, the characters were well rounded and engaging. The romance was sweet and sexy and I loved the fact that the author used prehistoric animals for her shifters. Great start to a intriguing series! I can't wait for the next book!

Helllllo, Cougarville! I must say that (some) of the perks of moving to this town (if you're the right type, that is) are FANTASTIC. And then there are some that aren't so fun. Like how most of the men get a little...unhinged when someone like Sadie walks past.

As a Juvie, Sadie's rare and completely unaware of what she's gotten herself into. She has a neighbor she is more than a little attracted to and NO CLUE why the men in town are suddenly going gaga over her. Her neighbor, unfortunately, blows hot and cold. Her unique scent makes him crazy, but he's convinced he's already had his chance at love and he'd only be putting Sadie in danger if he follows through on his desires.

Needless to say, they have a few tense moments whenever they cross paths.

Figuring out the ins and outs of her new lease on life leads to some sexy times. On the down side, there's also some danger. Since Juvies are so rare, they're highly coveted and there are some out there who will do anything to get their hands on one.

Good thing Sadie has a big, strong buck to stand up for her. YOu know, once he gets over his hangups.

As an aside, I REALLY liked the animals the shifters turn into. These aren't your run-of-the-mill shifters, that's for sure!

Since I am officially addicted to Shifter Romance, and have a separate blog (Shifter Haven) to prove that devotion, you had to think that Buck Naked would be on my reading list immediately. And you’d be correct. I was expecting to dive into a fun, sexy Shifter Romance to fuel my addiction. What I was not expecting was the absolute surprise at finding a situation that would be adding to the Shifter lore. I’ve seen similar lore before, remember I read tons of this sub-genre, but I’ve not seen it portrayed in this fashion or is such a delightful manner.

Sadie is funny, confused by what’s happening, and the perfect match for Mathis – even if he won’t acknowledge that. Mathis has made a vow, one that he’s going to have trouble with now that Sadie is on his radar. There was a time when Diana, Princess of Wales made a telling comment, “There were three people in this marriage.” Sound odd to put that quote here in a Paranormal Romance? No, not really – for there are three people in the romance between the main characters… Mathis’ deceased wife being the third. Her memory and the promises made to her play heavily in this new romance.

Buck Naked brings some new concepts to Shifter Romance. Sadie and Mathis make a compelling couple – if they can get past what’s happening to Sadie right now and Mathis’ past. Add in a bad guy, that I’m not totally convinced is so bad – some interesting townsfolk and that unique quality of Sadie’s and you have an entertaining, fun and sexy romance. The next story for this series is out in June, and I’m already looking forward to that.

If you love Shifter Romance, then I’d suggest you give Buck Naked a try and be prepared for some new ideas and a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend this story – so get in on the beginning of an intriguing new series, Cougarville.

(And yes – in a few weeks this review will be cross-posted over to Shifter Haven because it belongs among friends. *grin*)

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Dear author,
you have subjected me to the longest most tedious irrational and ridiculous read i have had the great displeasure to read in a long while. Because of the overwhelming rage this travesty of a book has provoked in me i will not be pulling any punches and have no other choice to untangle the many flaws embedded in this creating that has shaken my faith that there are other good paranormal reads out there. I am seriously doubting every other paranormal read out there and if I might just find the same old cliche and time waste I had to go through here....
All in all the world building in this book showed great promise but in the end was ruined by these many many flaws of the book that made me think that this author was watching Ice Age with her kids and fell asleep and had some rather adult dream if the Ice Age animals were alive and walking in human skin.... and then she just went "geez if only I was 20 years younger." But let's look at some of the glaring flaws that needed to be eradicated.
Warning: spoilers galore:
1. Wishie-washie idiot of a heroine. She is supposed to be 40 years old and some back-bone and wisdom, but acts like a teenager going through her first boy crush. The whole over-harmonized body going through rejuvenation does not lend validity to the heroines lack of thinking power. She gets slut shamed by the whole town and treated like dirt without any explanation and not for a second that she think "sc*ew this, I've been on this earth for 40 years, no way I'm taking this c*ap from some weirdo strangers and their rinki-dink backward town. I'm putting this house on the market and taking myself outta this wacked out town." Nope. She just stays and takes the mob abuse, the refusal of the whole town to even feed her or give her basic human assistance and just scratches her head in bedevilment at their odd behaviors instead of demanding answers. She just takes it like a good little doormat and asks for answers at like 70% of the book. Jeeeeez. It all feels like a desperate ploy to keep the reader interested in this whole mystical thing behind the town and as to what happens next, and make the heroine tip over on her over sexed up body straight into the hunky hero's arms. Well no sh*t she gonna fall for the single guy that's been relatively nice to her when everyone else's been a total sh*t to her. Stockholm syndrome mixed up with a lot of damsel in distress much?
Now lets look at some other facts that are there to show the flawed heroine. She notices something odd with her breasts and body. After describing in excruciating detail to the reader and just small hint at guess work as to what it might be the cause, she asks her sister, finally if it could be medical. And the sister is like naaaaaw, just enjoy it and do not try to unravel the mystery behind it that could potentially be lethal. Doctor House this ever praised by the author is not. Listen lady, you are 40 years old and are going through some major changes and you don't throw just some minor theories as to what could be causing this change? Just a bit more worried? Like women everywhere are not reminded and warned daily by all the doctors and breast cancer awareness campaigns of the dangers of potential breast cancer and how it increases with age. Which is why women should know how to examine their breasts and go for tests at the sign of changes of something odd. I am not a hypochondriac but I would at least entertain that idea and try to google this son-of-bi*ch so I'm not caught unaware in case more symptoms appear. Let's not forget that famous Doctor House episode where the old lady shows up feeling good with increased sex drive, and House says to the son: "Don't be an idiot. Your mother has had a complete personality change out of the blue and you are not even a bit curious as to what it could be." And it turns out the old lad had syphilis that was eating at her brain and causing a shift in personality. Now I know this is just a show with some odd stuff thrown in for entertainment value. Oh jeez wonder what this book is about then? But all these medical things are based in some medical odd cases that have been reported. All I know is there is a lot of unexplained stuff out here and this heroine is just stupid personified by not trying to just figure out the strange things happening to her body and just dismissing them out of sheer lazies of mind.
Also this grown-ass woman has children in college, not once does she remember them wistful or mention their names or her dirt-bag husband's. She is split from her husband and made this mage huge life change of moving away from her kids home and not once do we get the moment of them calling her to check if their mom is handling the divorce and all this change ok. And this paragon of motherhood is gonna be a mother again. Pft. Just shoot her now.
2. The hero. Meh, very forgettable. I still never learned how old this dude it. But he seemed just boring with the pining over his dead mate and his promise never to mate again. And the falling in love with the heroine the very next second and just forgetting that promise and just taking her as mate as in the end all the drama came not to him braking that promise of taking another mate, but the worry if he could. And then these two seem to have resolved all that troubling drama pretty easy after they got their sex on. Indeed. Bleh.
3. The whole town and the friendly witch. Everything explained with the whole mystical Moon mother spiel. Dude... really? I mean i get the suspension of belief, but you got a whole town of pre-historic shifters in this ever exposed and uber visible electronic age and you think this huge thing can remain a secret? And throwing just a bunch of mystical mambo-jumbo explanation of the Moon mother and the witch lady. Not to mention the light of the moon is just the reflection of the sun rays bouncing off of the moon surface as after all, the moon is just a very big rock floating in space... I mean could you not explain this mystical aspect with some pre-established mystical religion? Such as the Greek mythology or Celtic one used in numerous other paranormal books. Instead of this week sauce with "Moon mother" that is never better explained to give it some heft...
Just ugh!
4. I know there is more, but the more I delve the angrier I get. All in all I will be wise and not be tempted with the promise of a strong heroine with the sister spit-fire (just describing your strong heroine as spit-fire I know she just gonna be all drama and no brains) and NOT buy into the next read.

I am saving myself from this disaster and saving my sanity by cutting my losses now. I recommend to all others thinking on this paranormal read, just don't. You can find much much better. Two words: Thea Harrison. You're Welcome.

Just when you thought that all the shifters were out of the forests, come down from the snow capped mountains and tundra, and ready to trade oceanic homes for life on land. Authoress Evangeline Anderson, turns the shifter-story in a fresh and very exciting direction with Buck Naked. The first offering in her Cougarville series.

Meet Sadie Becker...
An ex-wife, mother of two grown children, and the new owner of a cabin left to her by her mother; in the town of Cougarville, North Carolina. What Sadie doesn't know however, is far more intriguing.
Things like...
Why just after her 40th birthday her face and body are those of her 20 year old self?
Why all the men in Cougarville want her worse than a drowning man wants a life preserver.
Why the woman hate her.
And...
Why everybody keeps calling her "JUVIE"?

It seems that Sadie's sudden appearance in Cougarville is proving especially challenging for her neighbor, Mathis Blackwell.
A hardship that should, and probably would be of little or no consequence to Sadie. But for the fact that circumstance, and an undeniable urge to mate him, continues to drive the "alpha shifter" and Sadie ever closer.

Meanwhile...
The charming and enigmatic mayor of Cougarville, Liam Keller, has Sadie in his sights. But unlike Mathis, who is more than willing to let nature take its course in regards to his relationship with Sadie. Liam is willing to do anything he has to, to assure that Sadie and the rare breeding ability that she possesses will be his.

The question here is...
Who will Sadie choose?
Or...more to the point.
Is the choice hers to make at all?

Buck Naked is a shifter story very much out of the norm. Populated with neolithic bucks and cougars. This story gives a whole new strata of shifter potential to the reader. Sadie's story is one that will appeal to readers of every age group. A rarity in a genre for which a hallmark is its concentration on the lack of aging. At least outwardly.

As for leading man Mathis. The heartbreaking tragedy of his past, coupled with its lasting effect on his present and future with Sadie. Serves readers the perfect amount of romantic drama to counter the more comedic aspects of this rather light read.

The only thing standing between this book and 5 star glory is a very pronounced disconnect between Sadie and her past. Particularly when it applies to her shifter origins. Most of the important discoveries that she makes in this key area of her life and the story line, are made in her present. Leaving both Sadie and the reader very unsettled about the who's, why's, and wherefores of her predicament.

What Buck Naked does offer readers in spades however, is just the right amount of funny, sexy, romantic, super, and natural. A new and very eye opening take on a new and very eye opening shifter-verse.
