The War between the States is raging and Angelina Stone's world is falling apart. Her beloved father lies rotting in a Union prison and when her Georgia home is invaded by Yankee officers, Angelina knows she will never be the same again. Will Angelina be able to overcome her fears, lay prejudice aside, and learn to trust? When the stakes are high, will she risk losing everything? Only by doing so can she face the demons of her past and win the battle that rages in her own heart - a heart that is eternally tethered to . . . the enemy. "Angel and the Enemy" is an historical romance set against the backdrop of the Civil War where loves were lost and lives were changed. It was an era where men fought for freedom, independence, and unity. Yet, when the dust settled and the war was over the real battle raged on within the hearts of individuals. "Angel and the Enemy" captures the strength of the human spirit in overcoming adversity in a sweeping tale of love, honor, and betrayal.
Marnie L. Pehrson Kuhns has been writing books since 1994, but she didn’t branch into fiction until 2004. Largely influenced by her friend and colleague, Marcia Lynn McClure, Marnie’s first foray into fiction was a story about one of her favorite ancestors. She pitched the idea for "The Patriot Wore Petticoats" to her distributor in June of 2003, and had the novel virtually finished by September. A labor of love, the story of Marnie’s 4th Great Grandmother, Dicey Langston, came in flashes of inspiration that flowed into a story that is now required reading at Langston Charter Middle School in Greenville, SC.
Once Marnie dipped her toe into fiction, she never wanted to leave. Other Southern novels followed including Waltzing with the Light, Rebecca’s Reveries, Beyond the Waterfall, Angel and the Enemy, In Love We Trust, Second Sight and two titles in the Granite LoveNotes series, Hannah’s Heart and Savannah Nights.
Marnie, who was born and raised in the Chattanooga Tennessee area, is an avid enthusiast of family history. She integrates elements of the places, people and events of her Southern family and heritage into her historical fiction novels. Marnie’s life is steeped in Southern history from the little town of Daisy that she grew up in (the setting for Waltzing with the Light) to the 24 acres bordering the famous Chickamauga Battlefield upon which her family resides. The Chickamauga Battlefield inspired Rebecca’s Reveries, In Love We Trust and Marnie’s BarnesAndNoble.com best-seller Angel and the Enemy (December 2006).
Marnie’s latest novel, An Uncertain Justice, is a true story about the last legal hanging in Georgia. Her latest inspirational non-fiction is Light the World: How Your Brilliance Can Shift the Planet. You can find links to her books on http://www.MarniePehrson.com .
Angelina Stone is a young woman who must recover from a brutal attack and overcome her fears in this Civil War romance. She is rescued by an enemy Union soldier and secretly admires him even after the war is over. Although she thinks their paths will never cross again, she ends up unknowingly accepting a teaching position in his hometown.
Angel and the Enemy is my favorite kind of romance. It is filled with history, an admirable hero, romantic tension, a difficult situation that must be overcome and a happy ending. The way the lives of Angelina, Elijah and Everett intercepted was creative. This book has the feel of a Marcia Lynn McClure book without some of the cheesy, over-the-top moments (I'm a big fan of MLM and say that only as a comparison not as a criticism of her writing). This one is going on my keeper shelf!
I love the history and the love story this holds. A girl of a confederate soldier falls in love with a union soldier who invades her home. I simply love this story.
This story takes place during the Civil War involving Angelina Stone who is a southern girl from Georgia whose home is taken over by Yankee officers. The story takes off from the first pages in the midst of conflict and we follow Angelina to the last page as the story of love, honor and betrayal is told to us. A good book to escape from our modern world.
I enjoy civil war stories that are well written and especially the intriguing plots of this book. It made me feel love for the characters included in the combined stories here. My thanks to the author, Carole
I'm kind of torn on this one. I really liked the setting and characters. Elijah rescues Angelina from an attack, while not a lot of detail is given it's clear what happens, or almost happens. I don't like those story lines so it made me like the book a lot less. Besides that, I really enjoyed the story and also the side story of Bonnie.
I really liked it. A good Civil War story where people fall in love with their "enemies" and kindness crosses over battle lines. I liked the unexpected plot twists and characters and a wonderful ending!
