Devon is from the UK, having lived in many places until finally settling in the Midlands. His career in public services started in his teens and has provided a wealth of experiences, both good and some very bad, which form the basis of the book ideas that cause regular insomnia.

He first started reading for fun as an adult, having tried his hardest to avoid anything resembling academia growing up, and at that point the world became a far bigger place. He has been reading, at least one book at a time, ever since.

His debut works, the After It Happened series, (Survival, Humanity, Society) were published in April 2016 followed by Hope (July 2016) and Sanctuary (December 2016). The first part of the series concluded with the release of Rebellion which was published in June 2017.

Storming high into the charts with the first books of the After It Happened series, Devon launched into the top 10 sellers listings in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US, and he made the decision to write full time shortly after the launch of Hope.

Devon’s self-published beginnings caused a stir in the publishing world, and resulted in contracts with Podium Publishing for Audible, narrated by R.C. Bray (The Martian, Expeditionary Force, Arisen), before a publishing deal for kindle and paperbacks with Vulpine Press.

Further works have seen the start of a multi-author series, sci-fi/post-apocalyptic cross genre, futuristic dystopian and alternative history zombie apocalypse. Spin-off books from the After It Happened world have been announced for 2018.

Great series

The main characters are flawed but heroes and heroines all the same. The author combines the right amount of action with humor and humanity. I definitely recommend this series.

Very good series

I loved all these books and will miss the characters. The world was so fascinating that my only beef is that we had spent more time in it - and maybe focused a little lesson on guns. But I thoroughly enjoyed all six books and couldn’t put them down once I started. One of my favorite things about these books is though the plot is set in a post-pandemic world, there are no zombies or monsters. The “monsters” are human beings - and that’s really scary.

Book 5: Sanctuary. Here we have a three-part story leading to the ultimate conclusion. There’s Dan and his volunteers, along with his pregnant wife, making their way to Africa to find the cause and/or antidote for the virus. Then there’s the dictator Major Richards who attacked the prison compound, taking everyone back to his base for recruitment or work duty. Lexi, Paul, Chris, Melissa, and Simon are looking to cross the Channel and somehow attempt to find Dan in Europe and/or Africa. As in most novels like this, we bounce between the stories. The multiple encounters with bad guys and a few good guys will continue. A radio signal in French was picked up. Translating it, it beckoned survivors to safety at Fort South Port on the French coast called Sanctuary. More roadblocks, more attackers, and more killing losing one of their vehicles and supplies. Lexi, Paul, Chris, and Melissa traveled with no maps and a vehicle nearly out of fuel. They encountered Simon, the man Dan had helped at Cherbough, and he decided to join them. They decided to try the underground Channel Tunnel versus crossing in a boat, saving days. On the road again, they were ambushed. At Major Richards's base, Steve was alive but in serious pain. A large South African male nurse named Yohn (John) was assigned to care for him. These two would eventually cooncock a plan to escape. The base consisted of 600 people, including 100 soldiers. Dan and company had arrived at Fort South Port on the coast of France, called Sanctuary. The remaining French survivors under the leadership of Leo, who had captured Dan earlier but escaped killing five, swore to chase Dan to the edge of the sea. Leo transmitted the false rally call once again for survivors to come to Sanctuary at Fort South Port as he and his men packed up to go claim it.
Book 6: Rebellion.
Sanctuary was indeed an ancient fortress built on the coast of France. It had huge walls, guard towers, lookout posts along the high cliffs, and a protected bay. It had never been conquered although attacked many times throughout the centuries. It also had two farms a mile or so away outside the wall. In these modern times though, it was defenseless. It possessed no guns, old vehicles, and horse-drawn carts. Steve waited for Yohn to begin their plan to take over the base. Steve’s mission was to deal with Richards. It was discovered later that the pet twins had killed one of their guards. It was presumed that the twins had a plan to take over the base. Steve was alarmed that this would ruin their plans. Lexi and company moved on after the unsuccessful ambush, traveling south thru France. They came upon some buildings and a military vehicle that they recognized; Dan’s vehicle. Driving up, they were captured by Leo and his men, interrogated, and tortured. After weeks, they put Lexi and Paul in their Land Rover and released her. She drove to Sanctuary. Meanwhile, at Sanctuary, Dan met a large man named Pietro who knew of an abandoned military base in the mountains. Organizing a supply run, they went to the base, cleared the buildings, and discovered a miraculous cache of weapons; automatic and heavy rifles, ammunition, 50 cal. machine guns, grenade launchers, a military vehicle, and a crate of AT4s. Returning to Sanctuary, the weapons were stored in the old stone powder magazine. Later, guns were distributed and mounted to the gate guard house, the seaward wall over the bay, and the two sniper towers. Leo and his men were already in the area, watching Sanctuary and the town from the high cliffs. They watched as Lexi drove up to the gate. Leo’s other two hostages; Chris and Simon were sent on foot towards the gate. Chris wearing a suicide vest. There was much more to Leo’s plan. Leo’s attack failed due to earlier planning by Mitch but he still had men within the fort. He would not give up. Steve’s and the twins’ coup took place at the same time. The coup did not last long. You’ll have to read for yourself how everything turned out. It’s a great series and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Just fricking sensational!

I cannot begin to express the strings played with such mastery of my soul. I was brave at times but then shook with fear. Jubilant in victories and suicidal with despair. Devotion Ford plucked my emotions like a maestro conducting his primo orchestra. I failed to review 3 books in the series simply because I needed to continue the journey.
A soul organising work of probability to come just because as human beings we cannot live in peace without some form of greed.

Wow - just wow!

What a way to end a series!! This last book was as well-written as the previous 5 were. Thank you Devon for a wonderful thrill ride with characters that grew near and dear to my heart.
For future readers that choose tomtake a chance, you will not be disappointed. The ride takes off, and while there are a few slower sections in the series, as a whole it is a well thought out story that is told in such a way that you will find yourself on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to you all.

Dan, Leah and his closest compatriots are making their long trek to find answers for the sake of his coming child.

At the same time, his friends left behind struggle to keep order. Both groups encounter hiccups, which leads to carnage.

Once again, Ford nails another action-packed part of this saga. So many emotions, so much plot and intrigue. I was so enamored with this series!

Oh my god the ending

I’m a 49 year old dad, I read a lot due to a disability to a car accident. I’ve read a lot of this genre. I average 2 books a week. Taking all that into account, the ending of this book got me like few before. I’m laying in bed, it’s almost dinner, and I have tears pouring down my face. I will miss this series.

Although I am still really enjoying this series…I did find it a little harder to follow as the characters split up in different groups…and a lot of new characters were introduced., but still a brilliant series with fantastic narration

This is the omnibus edition containing Sanctuary and Rebellion.

Finished this book and have to say it was very good. Towards the end was good as it cleared up many things and also closed the book off quite nice, but in a sad way. Not much else to really say but it is a good book to read (both parts).

Final two books are a little too graphic and bloody, but I loved the characters and descriptions of the countryside and “sactuaries”. Must try more of Devon Fords books.

So sad it’s over.

I could read about the people in this series for another six books. One of the best I’ve ever read.

Intense

Never stopping action in this series. I enjoyed the story but can't help wondering why no one thought of using an airplane or smaller helicopters.

Great series

A frightening look at what could happen if the world suffered a pandemic. Frightening because it is so possible. Worth the time to read it all.

some characters are nicely described and it's a page-turner, but too much violence and idolization of military too clear for my taste. I have a feeling that the author is pro-guns.
