This is the 27th volume in the Black Butler series and was the darkest and most disturbing volume of the series. It was incredibly well done and I really enjoyed it.
Volume 26 left the readers on a huge cliffhanger, this volume explains the backstory behind that. We finally learn the true story behind the death of Ciel’s family and how Ciel ended up bound to Sebastian.
This series continues to be amazingly well done, although I will warn this is a very dark book in the series. The illustration is amazingly beautiful and I absolutely love the characters. Learning all the backstory behind Ciel and Sebastian was incredible.
Overall I continue to really love this series and this book was an excellent addition to it. I am dying to know what happens next!!!
Holy hell. So that happened. I’m honestly a bit surprised Yen Press didn’t bump up the audience rating for this volume. It’s a lot going on and most of it not very nice. Actually, 97% of it is not very nice for certain characters.
Content (and I cannot stress this strongly enough) Warning: child death, death of a parent, death, murder, violence, blood, sexual assault, rape, child abuse, physical abuse, torture, animal death
So there we finally have it. The full story of the contract. This volume is fucking brutal, at least as bad as Hawkeye's war trauma volume of Fullmetal Alchemist. As graphic and upsetting as it is, the art is still completely beautiful and breathtaking. I love the way the contract scenes were drawn, there was such an elegance about it.
Still not mad at this new plot revelation. Toboso did a very, very good job at fitting it into the story. (Though I'm doubtful she had the idea in mind right at the start.)
And we finally learned the true origin of Sebastian and his master (false) Ciel's first meeting and making a covenant in vol.27. The (false) Ciel sacrificed the (real) Ciel, his brother to the devil so how the (real) ciel returned was big mystry, especialy since we learned that even the devil sebastion was not able to bring the (real) Ciel back to life. This brings the question of Is the returned (real) Ciel, really (REAL) Ciel... lol I liked the volume but there was nothing really imperesed me in this volume. I wrote short a review 'cause i haven't wrote a review to The Black Butler for many volumes, 'cause nothing really pushed me to write about the manga but i need to keep a track... HA HA!
We've seen bits and pieces of what happened to Ciel after his parents were killed, and now we get the whole story. This was definitely the darkest volume so far. Some of the scenes were actually so horrifying.
What I liked from the flashback was that it shows the beauty of Ciel's and Sebastian's relationship. As a demon, Sebastian always tries to get the upper hand through deceit and pretty lies. Even though Ciel is a young boy, he is smart enough to see through it and is set on his revenge. They're perfectly matched.
This entire volume is set in the past even though it makes recent revelations about Ciel still shrouded in mystery (which I sadly can't talk about without spoiling the book.) The things Ciel and his brother went through should never be experienced by any child and I was thrilled to see justice met out even though this is just the beginning of Sebastian's story with the young Phantomhive master. Never more appropriate to the Older Teen rating this book shows some creative representations as heathens prepare the boys in horrendous ways for their role as keys to the dark lord.
My fave moment is not to much of a spoiler in that even while caught and trapped by absolute villains Ciel has the frame of mind to swallow the ring of Phantomhive that is to be worn only by the proper Earl so the bad guys don't get it.
I've read up to volume; #36; with an average rating of: ★★★★☆ 3.9/5
the boyband arc was kinda fun but cringe, glad it was just the start of an epic plot. I AM LOVING THE RESURRECTED CIEL PLOT! It was the intrigue, the drama, the revenge storyline, different factions and the gang splitting up! Volume 30 was a bit awkward cause it splits the current arc but we are back at the end
Despite already knowing what had happened to Ciel in the past, it was still hard to read about it and learning that he had lost his brother was just as painful. I’m gonna cry. We still don’t know who is behind this tragedy... I hope they find out soon with the return of the real Ciel... I’m just gonna go cry in the corner.
Fascinating, learning all about the contract and the explanations behind the "major" events that lead our young Earl to these decisions. Hmm, one volume left; how chapters "fly"...
Hyvä sarja edelleen, mutta olipa kerrassaan karmiva osa. Vaikeimpien asioiden osalta varsin viitteellinen kuvitus toivottavasti suojelee nuorta lukijaa pahimmalta.
My favorite arc for sure, and one of the hardest to read :( i love it so much tho, I'm in love with Yana's way of making you feel the pain of the characters.
