Anahita is the beautiful, gentle daughter of the town's master saddlemaker. Everyone loves her but the prince particularly so, though both of them know the match can never be. Her life is disrupted when an evil magician falls in love with her and wants her to be his servant.
SO ! MUCH ! NOSTALGIA ! i randomly picked this one up at a 'buy books weighing 2kg for 1000/-' sale and it's been the best random impulsive decision i've ever made... a childhood-defining story :) young tam was enchanted with the idea of magic castles and potions and snakes and men (often indistinguishable). DUE FOR A RE-READ.
Charming and whimsical! This book has been a favourite since I was a child and I've held onto my copy for years and years, I always enjoy coming back for a quick re-read!
Good escapism, pretty decent imagery in a world of magic and mischief, like other reviewers note, the age ramge is a little unpredictable. This was one of my sisters favourite books that she told me to read an I never did, I wish I had because I could see myself being pretty enthralled in this world.
Nice to have a heroine, face adversity in a world where the female is portrayed as inferior, yet manage to sort things out by herself and some animals (lets ignore who the animals actually are and their genders...)
While most of the story was good, not great. I was not happy with the resolution and some of the characters. Possibly a good story for reading to a child for bedtime but some of the language is for a more mature audience. I'm not sure who this is aimed at and don't think I would recommend this to anyone to go out of their way to find. Worth a read if you find yourself in possession of this but don't go searching for it.
