Simple poetry and radiant oil paintings celebrate the joys of the changing seasons. A month-by-month introduction to the natural world that reflects a child's sense of wonder and delight.
I love this book and would like to own it. The illustrations aren't as timeless as I'd like them to be (dated 1990s clothes on the children), but they are beautiful. Each month is represented by a short poem and an illustration that captures the essence of its season. Here's an example:
March eats the winter; icicles drip from its mouth to fall on secret gardens. Crocuses wake, stain the melting snow with gold.
Kids are introduced to poetry, and parents get to enjoy the book as much as their kids.
Our young readers would be captivated by these vivid illustrations and lively oil paintings of the twelve months and their seasons. It would help learning the months of the year more fun and enjoyable. Moreover, it poetic language enhances the language development and makes it easier for children to relate and learn the months.
This book goes through each month, with a short poem describing the weather and scenery during that particular month. The words on each page allow the reader to visualize the season as the author has found a way to add a lot of detail with very few words. The illustrations that go along with each month are detailed and could be a great discussion starter.
"May's arms are filled with babies, she spills them everywhere. Lambs, stumble, foals fumble for their mothers. Apple trees drop blossoms on the earth."
