Get ready to indulge in an over the top romance with a paranormal twist on some favorite tropes.
Get married or you’re out of the will. Blackmail pure and simple, but Bryce doesn’t have much of a choice if he wants to remain Grandfather’s heir. With the old man on his deathbed, the clock is ticking, so he’d better get cracking because a supposed cousin has just shown up looking for a pint of the maple syrup business.
I’ll gore him with my rack first! Lucky for Bryce, he sniffs out the perfect woman and makes her a deal. What he doesn’t expect is to lose his heart in the process.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
This is why I read some of the stuff I do. This title? All sorts of crackilicious. Unfortunately, the story fell short.
There was alot of plot shoved into a very tiny novella, and as a result, there's some big plot twists that are dumped out in like two paragraphs, and the rest of the time there's not alot to do with between the leads, which left me scratching my head.
Basically, I wanted more emotion than I got and the cracky fun didn't make up the difference.
If there is something I enjoy, it's Eve Langlais's shapeshifter books. I admit that while sometimes I don't give them the highest rating, I can't go long without reading anything from her. This woman is a genius, the mastermind behind the shapeshifters' genre.
Bryce needs to find a bride that satisfies only two conditions. The first one that his grandfather needs to like her. The second one that she agrees to divorce him a year later, with a generous sum of money, of course. The arranged marriage is the only way to trick his grandfather into declaring Bruce sole heir of the family's maple syrup business.
This book, while featured in the Howls Romance series, can be read as a standalone. Ms. Langlais only has two featured books, Prepositioned by the Billionaire Moose and The Wolf's Secret Vegas Bride. However, I do regret reading The Wolf's Secret Vegas Bride before this one because the characters from Prepositioned by the Billionaire Moose appear in TWSVB and the central conflict is better explained in PBTBM. So, in my opinion, TWSVB should be read like an expanded continuation.
Overall, I enjoyed a lot the story. I am repeating myself, but I wish for Langlais to continue with this universe and maybe create a bigger series. So yeah, don't miss the opportunity to read this one with a fantastic HEA.
This is pretty much as awful as I thought it would be. A friend added it to my CloudLibrary account when I forgot to sign out, and it was only 110 pages so I thought I would read it. So, a shapeshifting moose who is the potential heir of a maple syrup fortune has to get married and produce an heir in order to inherit his fortune so he proposes to a woman who for some reason is a shapeshifting lynx. Ah, but there's a twist! His shapeshifting wolf cousin can get the money by getting married and producing offspring first! Need I say more? The shapeshifting aspect was surprisingly incidental to the story. I have now read a paranormal romance!
I only read this book because a) the title is so outrageous, b) it was on Audible Romance package and therefore free/ paid for, and c) it was short. I haven't previously read any shifter romance (which I know is a THING) so I may have missed references to known shifter tropes or elements that Langlais may have satirized. It was an ok read, pretty funny and light. There were some cringey parts, like a comment about how women don't call the police on handsome stalkers (ergh) and some weirdness about virginity. The narrator was spot-on, he sounded like he was playing a part in a John Hughes film. I felt like the author could have taken it further in the direction of satire and it would have been more fun, there isn't much to the humor beyond the fact that characters are moose shifters. Overall a fun, short read.
ETA: you know this book may have been really strong satire and I just can't tell based on my recent reading being full of kind of cheesy billionaire hero romance. So, it's a grey area for me maybe? It's definitely cheesy in a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek way, which is just how a lot of contemporary romance is now, I think? Which I like.
Cute and quirky and just the right length for a weekend read. There is so much going on throughout this story. A manipulative granddad, a one in a million meeting with a mate, a crazy old lady, and family popping out of the woodwork are just a few ways the author sent me off into a reading bender. The characters were sweet and adorable, with just the right amount of innocence and jaded caution, and the author kept me on my toes with the hint of danger. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Okay. I’ll be honest. I bought this because the thought of a moose shifter just made me LMAO. A lot. And I think it’s hard to write about a moose shifter without having tongue firmly in cheek, and that’s pretty much how Langlais approaches it.
There are elements which bring it into the dark side, namely, the heroine’s mother and various wolf elements. There are some surprising plot turns (one I totally wasn’t expecting, and that threw me for a loop; I thought I had them all down!).
The only eh note for me is, seriously, does sexual attraction have to be the mainstay? Even for a comedy? Aren’t there things they can talk about before hitting the sheets? Does the girl always have to be overwhelmed by the guy?
But it’s fun, and the twists and turns keep the pages moving along, and hey, MOOSE! (But no squirrel *sad face*)
Love Eve Langlais books, she’s got a great sense of humor and her books are always very entertaining. Bryce has to find a wife, like nowish, to please his sick grandfather. His grandfather would like an grandchild before he passes. Melanie takes care of her dying mother, that is so mentally and physically abusive.
These two meet and Bryce asks her to marry him while they are in line for coffee, yeah you read that right. So funny. This takes you through a series of events in their “fake” dating. You get to find out more about Melanie’s family, which ends up explaining a lot and there are more questions answered for Bryce’s family as well. This was a safe read, with a sweet epilogue, hea and a lot of great laughs. You can always count on an Eve Langlais book making you laugh and making you happy.
I love Eve Langlais and this had all her usual humour and fun that I find in every book she writes. It was perhaps a little rushed in the end, but I loved watching Bryce and Melanie fall in love, and admit their fake feelings for each other might have been more real than they thought possible. This is light, funny and sweet! I recommend to any shifter romance reader wanting a quick and easy read.
This was a cute short Christmas tale about a humongous rack....Moose rack that is. Bryce is a big full of himself and arrogant and he's living the life. Until his Grandfather forces him to find a wife or he's handing the company to an interloper! Well, he's not having it! Melanie has had a really hard life. Her Mother has been horrible to her all her life. Putting her down and her self confidence and how she views herself. She meets Bryce in a coffee shop and she thinks he's nuts for what he has in mind. A fake engagement/marriage. Can she really do this? Her Mother is dying and although she's never treated her right can she abandon her and let Bryce whisk her away? This is a cute book and has some surprises which I wont reveal. I wish the story was a little smoother like her other stuff but its a short so not everything can be like her novels. So, thats why I am 3 starring instead of 5.
He escuchado el audiolibro. El narrador no está mal y está incluido en el catálogo de Audible España. Todo bien.
Ever wonder how it would feel it taste to put maple syrup on the forbidden place? Well, me too..maybe Melanie would get that chance. She happens to come upon a mighty moose with a pretty impressive rack I do say so myself. Bryce sees this gorgeous lynx on his family property and could not believe his eyes. One because she doesn't back down and show no fear, two it's something about her he can't deny. When he decides to leave and a few of the wolves try to grope her he comes to the rescue. His grandfather who is ailing decided to tell him he needs to get married or loose the business. Maple syrup that is and to throw in a twist he has a long lost relative to compete against for the family business. Then the plot thickens you have to be the first to marry and have a baby...dun, dun, dun. Melanie never knew about shifters and thought she was an outcast. Her mother treated her like she was garbage and out her through hell. She told her at the end she took her from her dad and that he didn't leave them like Melanie believed all her life. So when you have a billionaire proposition you to be his fake wife and life back yeah you take it but don't plan on falling for him. Bruce should known something was up when he bumped into Melanie or should I say got a whiff of her smell again that she was his mate. But this is a love story after all. But a good one with attempted murder, arson, family values and reuniting. This is a soap opera but a really good one. A must get!
Melanie is a down on her luck, lynx shifter that is taking care of her dying mother. Bryce's parents have both passed on and has been living with and work with his ailing grandfather for years. When Bryce's grandfather decides that it's past time for him to settle down and forces him to find a mate or he will not inherit their maple syrup business. Bryce is also a shifter, a Moose. I'm a huge fan of this author, and I've read all of her books. This is a standalone read, the first book in the Howls Romance series. One consistent theme with this authors' books are that they are very humorous and enjoyable. I know that when I sit down with one of her books it will lighten and brighten my day. This book is funny, with a good dose of humor, some action, and a good dose of romance. The characters were fun and had great chemistry. It's a shorter book- about 150 pages, so I breezed through it in no time flat. I loved the book, the only thing I wish is that there were a little more about them after they get together at the end or an epilogue or something. Other then that, it was a great fun story! Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
This is a sweet little romance. Its very much your HEA short story. I really enjoyed the characters. Bryce is your typical playboy that meets his match in the very sweet and kind Melanie. Melanie who is struggling with her horribly cruel mother and has very much your Cinderella undertones in the story as a young girl worked to the bone with an ungrateful mother. Rags to riches but the unexpected twist of falling in love along the way. Bryce needs a wife to inherit the maple syrup empire from his supposedly dying grandfather when the twist of a cousin that may inherit is thrown into the mix. Whoever marries first will inherit. Bryce finds Melanie who is totally unawares of the shifter world and promptly saves his Cinderella. There is some drama along the way and some subterfuge by some characters that keeps you interested in their story and the book flowing along well. It only took me a few hours to get through its not a long read but a great little escape book that gives you a lighthearted HEA.
This by far is not the first I have read of Eve Langlais. It has her trademarks throughout: steamy, romance, some funnies, and alpha males. Propositioned by the billionaire moose was a delight with some twists I did not see coming. No spoilers means your just gonna have to get your copy to find out, trust me you’ll want to know. I was surprised and relieved at the same time. The characters had growth, and the dialogue was easy to follow and smooth as butter. Rory did and also did not turn out the way I imagined. I did have more questions given his turn of events in the epilogue. If it’s who I think, his story will be a doozy. Now to the only thing I’d would have like more in the book. A backstory of the blend of shifters, how it comes they mingle and what determines who becomes what. Is one more species more dominate? What will the offspring be of two different shifters? Ah questions, questions. Just a little more backstory and worldbuilding. A great read nevertheless, go grab your copy! You won’t be disappointed. Once you go rack, there’s no turning back.
Okay, I know I say this about EVERY Eve Langlais book I read, but, MAN, I love her crazy characters. They're sassy and arrogant and FUN. SO MUCH FUN.
Bryce for instance. He's DEFINITELY got the arrogant thing down. With good reason. He's a prime specimen of a moose shifter and he's heir to a thriving maple syrup empire. Well, he's probably heir. You know, unless his grandfather hands the billion-dollar business over to the interloper who claims to be related.
On the other hand, Melanie is Bryce's polar opposite. She doesn't have money. Her only living relative is a terrible person on SO MANY LEVELS. Oh, and she doesn't know much of anything about being a shifter. Meeting Bryce throws her for a loop and the insanity that follows keeps her life from getting boring.
As an aside, I LOVE the titles in the Howls Romance series. They are so ridiculously over the top they make me grin. BRING ON THE TROPE-Y CRAZINESS. I'M READY FOR IT!
This story is short, fast paced and enjoyable. This book is the first book of Eve Langlais’s that I have read. Because of this, I wasn’t sure on what to expect. I needn’t have worried though; I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the story enjoyable. I liked Bryce and Melanie. I did see some chemistry between them but wanted more. I would also have liked a few more scenes between Bryce and Melanie. Because this story is packed with drama, I felt like Bryce and Melanie’s romance took a back seat. I loved that Melanie finally got to meet her father. I also loved the ending to this story. I hated Rory from the minute he was introduced but I am intrigued to read his story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for Rory’s story.
Bryce is given a ultimatum by his grandfather. Find a mate. Have a baby. Or you lose the family business. Bryce doesn't take the threat seriously, until a so-called new found relative gets placed into the equation. A stranger claiming kinship could possibly walk away with the company Bryce has spent his life grooming to take over. No way! This moose isn't going out like that. Bryce approaches lynx shifter Melanie in a coffee shop and proposes. Just like that! Of course Melanie turns him down thinking it's some sort of joke. But Bryce can be very charming and convincing when he wants to be. He's not letting this company go without a fight!
I enjoyed this book. It was fun and comical. The characters were great.
Have it in audio Hero is Bryce . Heroine is Melanie . Love how Eve takes a commen trait in a love romance and gives it a spin. Love how Bryce is a Moose so strong and determined. Bryce gets a visit from his grandfather and he gets his marching orders . “Get married and produce grandchildren before I’m five feet under “. Bryce is wondering where is he going to find such a woman. Melanie is taking care of her mother. She is in line at a coffee shop when she gets a most unexpected question. Bryce asks Melanie “ will you marry me” Listen to this and find out do they make a go of it
Of all of the shifter books that I have read, I never thought that a Moose would be one of them. Bryce is the billionaire playboy who is given an ultimatum by his grandfather. Melanie is taking care of her mother and never has a moment to herself. They don't seem to have anything in common.
I like the strength of Melanie. She hasn't had the greatest life, but she still keeps the hope that one day she will be able to live a her own life. She doesn't fawn over Bryce even after she finds out who he is.
It is a fun read. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series because I had to read the last page. I should know better with an Eve book.
What he doesn’t expect is to lose his heart in the process
Heather's Notes This story was cute. I have never read about a moose shifter before. The story didn't really focus on the shifter aspect anyway. The story was short but I enjoyed it.
I read this in one sitting, it was so good! I loved the complicated families and the characters that live in these pages. The story reads smoothly and has just enough of a twist to keep your interest running. The family twists were unexpected and the parallels were funky but still kept me reading to get the resolution to all the questions. Melanie and Bryce had a cute build up, they both deserve happiness. Obviously I think you should read this book!
Bryce is informed by his grandfather, who is ill, that unless Bryce gets married before he dies, he will not inherit the family business. Having no desire to get married, he propositions a girl that if she will pretend to be his girlfriend and marry him in name only, he will let her buy and do whatever she wants while living in the family mansion. When a twist in fates and circumstances happen, some deals just don't pan out. As always Eve Langlais has continued to excite us with her awesome writing talent and imagination.
This was good if you count on it being a first draft, not an actual novella that has seen a proper editor and was ready to publish. It needed another look over before being published as there were a few errors and continuity issues, also it could have done with at least 10 to 20 more pages to really flesh out the story which at times is abrupt or parts just drop away. Also skips logic which has been previously set out then forgotten. With a little work this could be a very sweet story worth the 3 or 4 stars I would have given it if it wasn't a draft in need of an editor.
A brilliantly entertaining short read. Great story with a funny twisty plot. I did get upset when the truth of Melanie’s life came out, it was just so sad. Such a good fun madcap read. Fiancées who are not fiancées, Imposters who are not imposters and dying grandads who are not dying. Liked the two main characters very much and most of the other characters were entertaining in their own way. Found the blurb for Rory’s book intriguing. Will be reading that.
