"Hi. I am Brandon Thighmaster. Monk. Hero. Inspiration. I enjoy crunching, squats, looking at myself, looking at other people looking at myself, and long walks on the beach. I also do adventures and stuff, and I guess you can read about them here. But enough about you, let's talk about me. Brandon Thighmaster."
Steve Wetherell has written for Maxim, Cracked and CBS Local, and is a regular on the Authors and Dragons podcast. He is affiliated with Falstaff books and wrote the fantasy comedy series The Doomsayer Journeys, which he'd love you to read. He lives in Northamptonshire, England, and enjoys beer, rock music and writing about himself in the third person. (source: Amazon)
Writes primarily as Steve Wetherell. Some covers say "Steven Wetherell."
The Totally Legend Brandon Thighmaster by Steve Wetherell is a funny, witty, and clever book. A monk that loves his body, has to leave the temple to work on his mind per his Master, heads out into the world to make the world happy to see his abs and learn from the world. It is so silly and fun I giggled and smiled as he encounters others and is happy to be employed to fight to save a village. His lack of worldly knowledge is a hoot! His fighting companions are interesting and situations are strange indeed. The book is short but I loved every minute. Can't wait to follow his journey.
A quick comment, below is my review from Amazon on this amazing work.
To properly review this book I must tell you a tale. I was assaulted by facebook ads about 2 months ago for a book called "Caverns and Creatures" by Robert Bevan (if you're reading this buy his books too you won't be disappointed). After 2 weeks I read the description, bought, and read the first book and in a matter of 2 weeks bought and read the rest of his books. This lead me to the Authors & Dragons podcast "where a group of Fantasy Authors Try To Make It Through A Game Of Pathfinder Without Dying. Will They Succeed? Probably Not, But It Will Still Be Fun To Watch Them Try!" If you haven't listened check it out, though you're here so you probably know all about the A&D crew. So when Steve announced this book I knew I had to have it.
This is an excellent example of a fantasy story set in the extended D&D universe with the right amount of drama, adventure, lust ;), and humor spread through out. The childlike demeanor of Brandon is comically effective and endearing. Plus if you've listened to the podcast, all of Brandon's dialogue comes through in Steve's voice.
It is impressive to note how quickly this work came together and I certainly hope we can look forward to more Tales from the Totally Legend of Brandon Thighmaster in the future.
This kindle ebook novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 1 of 4
Brandon has joined with a number of friends and others in a battle with orcs. The battle is at the town gate where they make a stand against the orcs. They are successful but with considerable looses. 😯
I would recommend this series and various authors to readers of fantasy world 🌐 adventure action novels 🤔😏 2025😮🙃
First off, if you haven’t listened to the “Authors & Dragons” podcast, I’d start there. While this is technically an origin story, I think some of the gripes and running gags in this book could be overwhelming if you aren’t already familiar with them.
This is my first read of the author’s work, so I had no idea what to expect. He is by far my favorite of the A&D players so I figured it would be fun, but I also wasn’t expecting too much from a novella tie-in to a podcast.
Other than needing a copy editor, this blew me away. It has all the cheesiness that one would expect a Brandon Thighmaster story to contain, but it was still actually compelling and engrossing. The supporting characters were all new, but even in the hour or so it took to read this, I became attached to them and hope there will somehow be more to follow.
Fans of Authors and Dragons podcast will love this. You might as well.
Short but extremely funny account of how our favorite Monk from the Authors and Dragons podcast found his way into the world away from the Temple of Many Fists. Well worth the price, you will enjoy it, or you simply have no sense of fantasy or humor.
My plans for the weekend went out the window the second I received an email from Amazon telling me about new releases from authors I love. This one in particular is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long, long time. I immediately jumped onto Kindle Unlimited and grabbed my copy.
Brandon Thighmaster, sexually attractive monk from the Temple of the Many Fists, ab-crunched his way into my world when he joined the Authors and Dragons podcast which I’ve been listening to since its inception. I remember his debut episode like I listened to it yesterday, mainly because I almost died from laughing. All that said, you don’t need to have listened to the podcast to enjoy this story.
This tale set in the same universe as the podcast, follows the embodiment of ultimate physical perfection as he embarks on his quest to leave the monastery where he has spent his entire life honing his fighting prowess, and punch his way through the entire back catalogue of fauna and occasionally the flora the world provides.
His character wanders thoughtlessly and aimlessly, always seeing opportunities to look at himself or work on his cardio routine, until he stumbles upon a rouge, Pritti Brightblade, in dire need of rescuing from a group of orcs. After a successful intimidation which is misunderstood by the orcs, he joins his first party of adventurers and joins the good fight to save a nearby settlement.
Written with the same humour Steve delivers each fortnight during the podcast, this was an entertaining read from start to finish. Set in the Pathfinder universe (that the Authors and Dragons podcast is played in) meant I didn’t need to try to understand the world mechanics (like the magical healing abilities of clerics, etc). I already knew the systems of that world so it felt like home.
Hopefully this is the first in a long series, not only by Mister Wetherell but also by the other authors of the podcast. I’d love to read more from this universe.
This is the first in a series of character backstory novellas based on the Authors & Dragons podcast. Written by Steve Wetherell, it introduces his character Brandon Thighmaster from the A&D Pathfinder/D&D game the group of comedic fantasy authors play ever other week. As befits a game played by comedic fantasy authors, the characters are over the top, played more for laughs than smarts. Brandon, a narcissistic moron of a monk at least has the combat skills to be useful, both in the game and in the book. Wetherell does a great job of bringing Brandon's vanity over to the book. What's most lacking, sadly and especially in the Kindle edition (I haven't listened to the Audible version) is Steve/Brandon's English accent. In the podcast, we get the combination of the Brandon's dialogue and Steve's accent and deadpan delivery of it. That just doesn't translate to the written word, and the world is poorer for it.
The story itself is serviceable. In this book, Brandon is just at the start of his adventuring career - which means he isn't overly powerful. Thankfully, he teams up with a group of adventurers who are far more capable than his A&D companions will ever be. But, since this is his book and his origin story, he gets to be suitably heroic on several occasions. The companions are nicely written. Not stock fantasy characters that are quickly ignored, but also not so far removed that they threaten to steal the spotlight.
Honestly, if you are a fan of Brandon in the Authors & Dragons podcast, you are the target audience for this book. You may come for the backstory, but you'll stay for the humor. The story itself, not so much. If you aren't a fan of the podcast, this 100 page novella isn't likely to make you a fantasy fan in general or satisfy you if you are a fantasy fan, but maybe it will encourage you to check out the podcast - so there's that. Just keep in mind that Brandon doesn't show up until a few episodes in (6 maybe?).
Steve Wetherell is funny as hell on the Authors & Dragons podcast and Brandon Thighmaster is one of my favorite characters. This novella is entertaining, a pretty good story. I just wish it had been more about Brandon Thighmaster. Unfortunately, The Totally Legend of Brandon Thighmaster is much more about Pritti, who's an interesting enough character. But she's no Brandon Thighmaster.
If you like the A&D podcast and the characters, I'd say it's a fun read, but I wouldn't recommend it on its own merits.
(Note: the frequent typos were kind of a distraction for me- but I don't hold that against it, I mean it's a character origin story for a podcast D&D game, so in perspective, I don't imagine it warranted the investment of professional editing. If typos drive you nuts, you may want to take this into account.)
Humor, Dungeons&Dragons and so much muscle you wouldn't believe.
This is just the perfect introduction to Brandon Thighmaster, Steve Wetherall's character on the D&D podcast Authors and Dragons. Don't expect any of this to make sense, be reasonable or be even slightly what you thought you were expecting. This... This is A&D territory, where the strange happened and a clueless, but 'Sexually Attractive Monk' who punches things is considered normal.
Or more comprehensibly stated, this is the origin story of Wetherell's character in his D&D campaign.
And yes this was Totally awesome! Admittedly I'm a big fan of the podcast, and enjoy myself immensity with their antics. But this one is special! Brandon, as my favorite character finally got his origin story! Its... its... well just read the damn thing. Its awesome and if you don't, well..... you'd be missing out!
Authors and Dragons fans rejoice. We finally have a story about one of the many amazing characters from the podcast. Reading the book is just like the show and the humor is just as great. I hope for many more stories of the totally legend of Brandon Thighmaster and hope that we will see stories from the other authors and their characters as well.
Do you love action? How about laughing? Like to do that? Well then, this book is definitely worth checking out. Steve Wetherell has crafted an engaging (also intellectually challenged) and unique character in Brandon Thighmaster, but the supporting cast in this book are also well developed and a few would make fantastic protagonists in their own stories. (Hint.)
kindle unlimited, dude don't know who is more messed up, the writer or the guy the story was named after
"Hi. I am Brandon Thighmaster. Monk. Hero. Inspiration. I enjoy crunching, squats, looking at myself, looking at other people looking at myself, and long walks on the beach. This story had me laughing so hard I cried... on more than one occasion. As an author, a gamer, and an all around nerd, I'm pleased i finally made the time to read this. There were a number of typos throughout the manuscript, as well as inconsistencies in character names, but it wasn't so bad it couldn't be overlooked. Overall, well done. And I look forward to reading more about Brandon Thighmaster and his perfectly sculpted abs.
Looking for a book full of chuckles, glorious abs, and heart? Look no further. Brandon Thighmaster does not disappoint on any of those fronts. From the Trapezius Mountains to the town of Darkum, Brandon glistens with heart and bulging muscles ( no you may NOT touch them). Do yourself a favor and read this beautifully sculpted book.
I mean seriously, have you read about those abs? Just read the totally legend of Brandon Thighmaster and feel honored you have had a chance to know even a fraction of the glory that is Brandon Thighmaster. You are welcome.
It is no surprise that this book is the best book ever written, given the subject matter. It’s only flaw is that it fails to do justice to the greatness that is Thighmaster. But what could?
Love Authors and Dragons. This is my first origin story for any of the characters and I am so glad that this was the book that I started with. This book has it all: action, adventure, ABS!!!
When I saw the title of this book and read a few pages, I was expecting a comedy like Hercules. Instead what I really got was sort of a pornographic story with lots of the "F" word. No thank you!!
This book is amazing. I read it on a road trip, and it definitely was worth it. I even read back some parts because my friends rarely see me chuckle, unless I am plotting some mayhem, then they get nervous.
The only thing that would have made this more fun is if Steve Wetherell had done the voice of Brandon Thighmaster himself. Fans of Authors and Dragons will know exactly what I mean. And if you don't, give a listen to their podcast....
Except for few gems, that also happen to be some of the greatest pieces of literature in general, I'm not big fan of fantasy. So if I need to read it, it better be like this: one of the funniest books ever. This was the first reading among several, I presume. Just... Hilarious.
