This is the second book in the Castle series by Tracie Peterson. I enjoy books set during the Middle Ages, and there just aren't enough of them. The author does a good job with the historical setting. I liked getting a continuation of Tancred, Richard, and Arianne's story. Helena was a new character with a harsh past, physically abused by her stepbrother and sister. For the most part, I liked this story. I had a hard time with Helena's assertion that she fell in love with Tancred at the age of nine. Honestly, I could understand her loving him for the kindness he showed her as a child, but she really didn't know him when she met him ten years later, so her declaration felt kind of hollow. It would have been nice to see them get to know each other and fall in love in the process. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more in the series.
