Six years ago, Gaby was the most popular girl in high school. Then the world ended. Times have changed, and everyone's unanimous choice for homecoming queen is all grown up.
These days she's part of something greater than herself: a group whose sole mission is to restore order to a ravaged world that badly needs them. Gaby will do whatever it takes to get the job done--as a soldier, a leader, or when necessary, a killer.
Dispatched into Texas to investigate a series of deadly raids on former ghoul collaborator towns, Gaby's mission is to collect intel and report back. Except nothing is ever that simple, and she finds herself face-to-face with those very same raiders.
With no help coming anytime soon, Gaby is forced on the run and must fight for her life every step of the way. For anyone else it would be too much, but most people aren't Gaby, who has been trained by the very best to fight and survive...at all costs.
In Book 2 of The Road to Babylon series, a new enemy with a secret agenda will put Gaby and her group to the test. It will take courage, sweat, and a lot of bullets to uncover the terrible truth behind the town of Fenton...and beyond.
The Purge of Babylon is my favorite post-ap series, so I was thrilled when I discovered Sam Sisavath was continuing the story in Road to Babylon. Bombtrack features everything readers love about these books: edge of your seat action, noble heroes, and plot twists you never see coming. Five well-earned stars.
Small villages continue to be surprised that white american males can be brutal, murdering thugs in a post apocalyptic world. That sums up all the action.
The characters are just weird and exhibit none of the survival traits and attitudes that make sense in a world of ghouls and armed lunatics. The plot makes no sense. A community takes in survivors from other towns that have been destroyed by armed lunatics. The same thing happens in the first book. The town is then surprised that the well armed lunatics are attacking them. That also happens in the first book.
The well trained Intel squad gets cutoff from their vehicle and wiped out. So if I get the story right, people with no experience are the ones who are sent into what is a deadly environment. You have experienced people who can train them but not one experienced trainer goes with them. The one survivor of the squad doesn't kill the last of a trio of slavers because he's only a twenty year old kid? This kid just helped murder your team. This takes place in a state where people currently pay for the opportunity to watch as mentally challenged prisoners are executed. Did the total destruction of society create a kinder, gentler Texan?
I'm lost. You know that local jackasses have machine guns mounted on the back of pickup trucks. You know that there are big arsenals of military weapons all over the landscape, especially in Texas (abandoned military bases, right). You are fired at from the ground by machine gun armed lunatics and fifteen minutes later, you are surprised by a shoulder launched anti-air missile. The bad guys (who are gang rapists for sport, murderers for fun, have no discipline, and have no training except how to load a gun) are so much better at playing soldier than the good guys (who wear ghilly suits, have sniper rifles and are trained by light infantry specialists) that there doesn't seem to be any point to the books.
Twenty percent of the way into the book and I've lost interest in the series. None of the characters offer any benefit to the gene pool. The plot is strange. The story wanders from one horrific scene to the next. The writer can put together good word pictures and sometimes decent dialogue but as a whole it makes no sense to me.
You might like it, if you can get past the issues I had with the books.
They wore a circled M on their combat vests. It couldn't be. It shouldn't be. But it was. Mercer's crew was back at work.
Gaby and a small crew from Black Tide were on a diplomatic mission to a small Texas community named Kohl's Port when the attack began. Trucks with bed- mounted machine guns (technical) and men on horseback tore through the town killing the men defending their ground and rounding up women and children and loading them onto trucks. A shoulder fired Surface to Air missile took out the Black Tide helicopter and Gaby was stranded in the middle of the action. Again!
Keo appears, riding on a thoroughbred named 'Horse' , apparently a well trained Ninja horse with some mad skills. It was good to see old friends, back in action again. And there's plenty of action! Bad guys to kill, black ghouls in the thousands, even a blue eyed ghoul to stir things up!
Fast-paced action in Sam's inimitable style, light hearted banter between friends old and new, and new mysteries to solve if they can survive. More new friends and new enemies to love and hate.
I loved this book and can't wait to read the next installment in the series! I won't have to wait long, Rooster is releasing soon! You can't pass this book up, it is SO good.
It's a difficult thing to do - a balancing act - when so many novels have been written in a series already, to keep both the ghoul and human interactions fresh, interesting, and exciting. And Sisavath has done just that. Though I was over Gabby being captured about 50 captures ago. For a smart and skilled girl.....smh. Such a fantastic series overall. I'm incredibly bummed there's only one more book to go. I never want to leave the Babylon world!
I do love this series, and I love that the author has continued the story of these characters, but holy crap I seriously get SO IRRITATED by the repetition of the phrases. There was one chapter where the author repeated the same paragraph three times in a row within THREE PAGES. Does he think his readers have brain damage and we forget what we just read or something? And if I read “adapt or perish, right Will? Or right Lara?” one more time I’m going to scream.
“Why are they taking the women and children. And what are they doing with them?” This needed to be written ONCE. Possibly twice. I can’t even count how many times I have read this. Yes Sam Sisavath THEY ARE TAKING THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN WE GET IT!
Other than that, he’s a great author so I don’t really get why he insists on this ridiculous and constant repetition.
I confess, I am addicted to the Babylon series and this "new" series continues the saga. While the first book in the series felt more like a stand-alone, this one seemed a little less so. (Can't wait for the next book to come out!) Like the others, it is well written, well edited, has strong characters (two of my favorites in this one), and a great storyline. It also has heart and soul and, surprisingly, a sense of humor, a great combination for any book. While not necessary, pick up books 1 through 9 in the Babylon series and treat yourself to an excellent read. You don't have to read them to enjoy this book or the ones to follow, but trust me, it will enhance and enrich your experience.
Sam Sisavath continues his magic in the second book of Road to Babylon. Readers of the previous series fell in love with the characters and hated to see that series end, but here we pick up with Keo and Gaby and the rest of Lara's group at Black Tide. What Keo and Horse did to save their comrades from the hoard was so incredible. This is a great series. I love that Gaby hears Will saying things in her head and that Danny is still there as well. Exciting and can't wait for the third book. Write on Sam!
I absolutely loved it! Gaby has always been a favorite character and her and Keo together was one of the best books Mr. Sisavath has written. So many questions what are they doing in Fenton, who us the chained man, are the blue eyes working with Buck? The action was nonstop and I love Horse. He has a personality and is such a fun part of the story. I laughed when he snuck up on Gaby. He truly is a ninja horse. I can hardly wait until the third book is available. Waiting is so hard when the story and characters are so perfectly written!
I’ll admit when I finished The Bones of Valhalla and then read the descriptions for Road to Babylon I was afraid it was going to not be a very good because it was past the time of the Purge. However, I was very wrong. There are ghouls; they are just as bad; Keo is back; Gaby is back.
Both books of Road to Babylon Series have been page turners and nearly impossible to put down. I can't praise this author enough, I love these books and his creatures and characters.
I am so thrilled to have our heroes still in action. I cannot ever remember a series I have enjoyed more. It was hard to lose Will, but still having Our major players makes it bearable. I cannot wait for book 3 and would gladly read their stories forever. Do yourself a favor and read all start to present. You will be super glad you did!
Sam, you make me have chills, you make me fret, you keep me guessing and, THEN, you make me laugh!!! I missed Danny and Will, but Keo and Gaby are a close second in the banter department. I was caught from page 1. If you have not read Mr. Sisavath before, please, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning.
I can not tell you how many times I've stopped breathing while reading these books! I can't wait for book 3! If you haven't read The Purge of Babylon yet, do yourself a favor and read them. Then, you can read the side stories and this series. I envy you, I'd LOVE to read them all for the first time again.
Once again I'm sucked in and have to wait. The story moves fast and leaves you wanting more. If you haven't read The Purge of Babylon series go back and read it...you won't be disappointed and you owe it to yourself. I'm gonna wait patiently for the next book....thinking of renaming my dog...Dog. Lol
Just the best! I love Sam Sisavath's books and this new series "Road to Babylon" is another winner. I sorely miss Will but hearing about Keo, Gaby and Danny sure helps. I'm ready for book 3.
It started in The Purge of Babylon Series and the tension has never let up. When you hear the Thoom on the door, your life expectancy is measured in minutes if not seconds.
This office continues to put out most fantastic books I've read I've enjoyed everyone and even going back to be the first one again you're really missing something if you miss out on the series read this book you won't be sorry
Another book by Sam Sisavath, another outstanding series. I honestly believe that this writer is incapable of writing anything that isn’t an absolute winner. They should name roller coasters after him the way he can take you so high and low with his words.
I made it through the second of this new series and resumption of the purge in a few days. Just like seeing old friends again. Another action packed story from Sam, never fails to impress!
I just love all of these books from branches of the original story. This is very fast paced book that I can not put down. It is torture to wait for the next book.
The storyline continues and takes an interesting twist in the 2nd book of the new series. Love the characters and the situations they are in and manage to find solutions
