A lost identity. A dangerous mystery. And a deep love that can conquer it all.
When a mysterious gentleman arrives on his doorstep, Alexander Moreland is astonished to discover that the stranger is not a gentleman at all, but a beautiful young woman disguised as a man, and in great need of assistance. The woman remembers nothing except her own name, Sabrina, and has only the contents of her pockets as clues to her identity: a handkerchief, a pocket watch, a leather pouch, a torn scrap of paper and a gold ring.
Sabrina is certain that she is on the run from someone, or something—how else to explain the bruises on her face and the pervasive sense of dread she feels? She’s also certain that she trusts Alex to help her, and she can’t deny the sparks that fly between them. As they race through the English countryside, Sabrina and Alex must solve the mystery of Sabrina’s past—before whatever she’s running from catches up to them.
Candace Camp is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty books.
Her first novel, *Bonds of Love*, was published by Jove Publishing in 1978, under the pseudonym Lisa Gregory. Two pseudonyms (Kristin James and Sharon Stephens)and many books later, Candace writes under her own name Candace Camp and still loves creating stories.
Candace lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and is the mother of Young Adult author Anastasia Hopcus.
Inoffensive but also unexciting offering from Camp featuring amnesic heroine who seeks the assistance of the Moreland investigative agency to locate her lost identity and memory. Fortuitously, Alex Moreland, the twin of the agency's owner, happens to be there in his brother's stead. Alex feels an instant spiritual connection to this beautiful, well-spoken but distraught young girl dressed in boy's clothing. She carries nothing on her person but bruises suggesting physical trauma and a few items, some of which hint that she might have been running from someone. She also carries a locket bearing the name, Sabrina. Alex is the younger son of the Duke of Moreland. His family is powerful but known to be eccentric and yes, even mad. Many of his family members have strange and supernatural abilities. For Alex, he is able to sense things by touching objects. Occasionally, he is also overcome by sudden forebodings of events of sense of ill feeling when those he care about are threatened. This usually pertains to his twin brother, but he is shocked to find that he has the same psychic link with Sabrina.
Camp is a great writer, but this is not one of her memorable works. Alex and Sabrina connected at first sight spiritually, emotionally, lustfully. There really was nowhere to go in terms of their relationship development apart from just awaiting for the inevitable physical connections to happen. The focus of the book was on solving the mystery of Sabrina's background. Alex was too bland a hero, not self-assured enough for my taste, being only 24 to her 20. His twin, Con, and Sabrina's friend, Lilah, appear to have greater chemistry. At least it's not instant feels between them but more instant antagonism. I shall check out their story in the next book.
I found the narrator quite annoying, especially when he voiced Sabrina, because he puts a recurrent, rhythmic inflection at the end of each of her lines, like an accent, which just makes me want to pull off the earphones and hum to myself. It's hard to explain because it's quite unusual, but it just drove me nuts to hear that and it made her speech appear unnatural and detached.
The butchering of titles was strong in this one... for pity's sake there is no Lord Moreland confusion or profusion. She should call you Lord Alex (you younger son, you). You know this, she should know this. And would authors get off the first name train? It wasn’t a practice back then to commonly use them. Why is this conversation even happening?
“Alex walked up. She was dressed in fashionable but circumspect clothes, as she had been the evening before, her carriage straight, her bright red-gold hair hidden beneath a prim straw bonnet. “Miss Holcutt.” He politely swept off his hat as she turned toward him. “Lord Moreland.” “Please, call me Alex. There are far too many of us Lord Morelands in the house.”
Google people. Is it really that hard for authors to read up on how to address nobility? “What title does a duke’s son have”, “How is a second born son addressed” “What is the title of a duke’s daughter” etc etc. Such a simple, enter question in google, fix for a recurring problem in this whole Moreland series.
I expect no experts, but sheesh at least read up on the intricacies related to the status and stature of the family you base a multiple book series on.
Hey, I'm going to write about a Duke's family! Step One, hmm I know, lets research "the family of a Duke"! Gasp! Such a flash of brilliance!
This book is scattered and insensible on a whole. The pairing is straight up odd, the situation is silly from the start. This whole family is set up to push all bounds of believability.
And I am not even talking about the magical premonition style aspects, which actually rang truer than the more general nonsense taking place.
The day to day behavior, with quirks emphasized to the point of ridiculousness just made it all rather trying.
And while I know the heroine had no memory and thus by necessity less presence overall as a character with a backstory who, should maybe get a pass, I don't want to give her one.
She was a boring cipher from start to end.
Done and done.
Hero was more fun as a child character in previous books. He seemed like a teen with a crush rather than a man in his mid twenties here.
I've given this an A for narration and a C+ for content at AudioGals
His Sinful Touch is book five in Candace Camp’s Mad Morelands series, which initially comprised four books (published between 2003 and 2005) featuring a set of unusual and unconventional siblings, all children of the Duke and Duchess of Broughton. The author has returned to the family after a long break to bring us the stories of the two youngest siblings, twins Alex and Con; this is Alex’s book and the next (His Wicked Charm, due for publication in March 2018) is Con’s. The twins appeared as secondary characters in some of the earlier books as young boys; I confess I haven’t read any of them – I gleaned all this from the information given in this story – and now, aged twenty-five, they are set to get their own happy endings.
Alex Moreland has dropped by the office of the investigative agency operated by his twin to discover that Con is just about to depart London for Cornwall to pursue a lead in his latest case. After exchanging goodbyes, Alex is on his way out when he sees a young man approaching along the corridor – but immediately senses something is ‘off’. The ill-fitting clothes, the odd gait and Alex’s psychically heightened intuition (like other family members, he has supernatural gifts) tell Alex that ‘he’ is a ‘she’ and that something traumatic has happened to her.
The young woman then proceeds to explain that she has come to Alex for help because she has no memory of who she is or what happened to her. All she can recall is getting off a train at Paddington Station a few hours earlier, and then being directed to the Moreland Agency by a cabbie. She thinks her name might be Sabrina, because it’s engraved in the locket she is wearing, which also contains a date she thinks might be her date of birth, but other than that, her mind is a blank. Alex – who has the ability to sense things by touching inanimate objects associated with strong feelings – can tell by touching the locket that whoever gave it to Sabrina gave it to her with a lot of love, but can’t sense anything further.
Moved by her plight – and rather surprised at the unusual sense of recognition and strong pull of attraction he feels towards Sabrina – Alex agrees to help. Sorting through the contents of the pockets of Sabrina’s jacket, they find little of help – a ticket, a handkerchief… and a ring that might be a wedding ring. Alex’s heart sinks at the sight of it, at the prospect that Sabrina might be married – but he doesn’t let it show, and escorts Sabrina to Broughton house where, he tells her, she can stay until such time as they find out who she is and where she lives.
Sabrina’s installation at the ducal home gives followers of the series the chance to catch up with some of the other members of the family, and the author the opportunity to give listeners a potted history of how all the Morelands met their respective matches. They’re certainly an unusual bunch who aren’t in the least fazed by Sabrina or her situation – and have been dubbed the “Mad Morelands” by society, their elevated rank meaning they are politely regarded as eccentric rather than scandalous.
His Sinful Touch charts Alex and Sabrina’s search for the truth about her identity and her situation. She feels strongly that she must have been running from something or someone – and the fact that she had obviously been beaten or struck when Alex met her seems to bear that out. Over the days and weeks of their association, Alex and Sabrina become close, and the instant attraction they felt at their first meeting grows stronger until they both have trouble keeping their hands off one another. There are several scenes in which they fail abysmally to do that – although each time, poor Alex gets cock-blocked before things can reach their natural conclusion and then reminds them both that they shouldn’t take things that far because Sabrina might be married.
Ms. Camp ups the ante a little in the second half of the book, as we discover what – or rather, who – Sabrina had been running from, and the extent of their nefarious plans, but it’s all somewhat clichéd and the amnesia plotline is rather clumsily handled. The paranormal elements of the story are also pretty basic – although Alex manages to pull off a bit of Jedi Mind Control near the end!
Will Thorne isn’t a name I’ve come across before and an Audible search revealed he has this and one other title to his credit. I’ll admit to some trepidation, as is always the case when I’m about to listen to a new performer, but within seconds I realised I wasn’t listening to a newbie – and I’m sure that eagle-eared listeners will quickly recognise a popular, experienced and exceptionally talented performer behind the alias. Narrators choose to use pseudonyms for a variety of reasons, so I’ll just say that Mr. Thorne delivers an extremely strong and accomplished performance in every way, and that while the story was ultimately disappointing, his narration was so engaging as to enable me to make it to the end without feeling too grumpy! His pacing is exactly right, and his vocal characterisations are excellent; there are a large number of secondary characters in the story, and he provides each one of them with an individual tone and manner of speech so that no two sound alike. Alex and Con are easy to tell apart – Alex speaks in a slightly gruff bass/baritone while Con’s somewhat more light-hearted personality is clearly displayed in the lighter timbre and slightly higher pitch used for his dialogue. Mr. Thorne’s female voices always impress, and they continue to do so here; Sabrina and her friend Lilah (heroine of the next book) are also easily distinguishable from one another, and overall, both narrative and dialogue are imbued with exactly the right degree of expression and nuance.
His Sinful Touch is ultimately a bit of a mixed bag. The story is on the whimsical side, which is something I count in its favour, but the characters are stereotypical and not especially memorable, and in spite of the chemistry between them, the romance itself is a little disappointing. BUT – you could do a lot worse than kick back and let Mr. Thorne’s dulcet tones wash over you for a few hours; his performance is fabulous and does much to paper over the cracks in the story.
The Victorian romance His Sinful Touch begins on a really intriguing note… a young woman, dressed in man’s clothes, stumbles into the office of a small London detective agency and tells them she wants to hire them to find someone. Herself. She has amnesia, and the only clue to her identity is a gold locket around her neck with the name Sabrina and a date twenty years earlier engraved on it.
The hero of the book is Alexander, one of the sons of the Duke of Moreland, helping out his twin brother Con who owns the agency. Taking on Sabrina’s case, he soon finds himself falling for her, though is wary because evidence indicates she may already be married.
Of course, the plot thickens further once Sabrina’s true identity is discovered, partly through the use of some psychic abilities Alex has never fully explored. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists and the steadily building romantic relationship between the two leads but there were a couple of issues that bothered me about the book.
Firstly, the use of the word ‘gotten’ in dialogue between the leads. I was born in the UK and lived there for the first 25 years of my life before moving to Australia, and I have never, ever heard an English person say ‘gotten’. It’s strictly an Americanism, and a member of the upper class in the Victorian era would have considered it utterly uncouth.
Secondly, there was a plot hole I thought was wide enough to drive a coach-and-four through. The American author probably doesn’t know about this, but the UK has, since 1837, required all records of births, marriages and deaths to be sent to the Registrar General’s office, housed at Somerset House in London from 1837 until 1970. Records are indexed by date, so with a date of birth and a first name as uncommon as Sabrina (it didn’t become popularised until the 1950s), they should have been able to discover her identity in short order. A detective agency not even knowing about these records is, frankly, inconceivable.
However, only a picky Brit like me would even NOTICE these issues. If they’ll annoy you, avoid; otherwise, this is a highly enjoyable romp. Four stars.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley.
His Sinful Touch was a wonderful historical romance with a slight paranormal twist about a heroine on the run from unknown foes and the hero determined to protect her.
As Alexander Moreland is leaving his brother’s office, a mysterious gentleman arrives seeking assistance only to be revealed as a woman in disguise and on the run. The woman remembers nothing about who she is apart from her first name, Sabrina, and she can feel she’s running from something but has no clue as to why. As Alex and Sabrina work to uncover her past, they grow closer to each other while what she’s running from begins to close in.
Sabrina, despite her memory loss, managed to get herself out of harm’s way and seek assistance to find out who she is and what happened to her. I felt that showed a great deal of inner strength and proved her to be a clever woman who had the potential to outwit her enemies. During the weeks she worked with Alex to uncover information, Sabrina showed she was a strong, level-headed woman who was unwilling to let others make decisions for her. After uncovering her identity, Sabrina does have difficulty reconciling who she is now with who she was before her memory loss which she eventually is able to work through with Alex’s help.
Alex is very close to all of the Morelands but is by far the closest to his twin brother Con to the extent that they know what the other is thinking or when they’re in distress. In addition to his twin speak, as him and Con call it, Alex also has the ability to sense things when he touches an object. In particular, strong emotions tied to the object come through the best. This ability puts him in a unique position to help Sabrina and he actually develops the skill even further over the course of helping her as he feels so strongly about finding out what happened.
Sabrina and Alex both feel an immediate connection when they meet with Alex feeling a remarkably similar connection to Sabrina that he feels with Con which is something he’s never experienced before. There is an initial hesitation in their relationship due to the lack of knowledge about Sabrina’s past including her marital status. When the relationship turns physical, there are several scenes where they give in to their feelings only to reign themselves in. Once they finally let themselves go, the scenes are quite steamy and very well done. Towards the end of the book, a bit of miscommunication does slow things down but thankfully that is resolved quickly.
Having only read the first book in the Mad Morelands series, Mesmerized, I did miss out on the other siblings’ stories, but I never felt lost. The author does a great job with the side characters and at showing you who everyone is. My favorite of the side characters were definitely all of the women in the Moreland clan. All of them are huge advocates of women’s rights and there were several excellent scenes where they put men in their place for trying to talk of women as the lesser sex or as property.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the touch of paranormal that showed up in the first book is present again here (and by the sounds of it, in all the other books as well). The addition of a paranormal element definitely sets this series apart from most historical romance books and it’s something I’m a fan of.
Overall, His Sinful Twist ended up being a great read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series soon. I definitely recommend this series for anyone looking for a more unique historical romance.
**I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**
The Mad Morelands (what a stunning group of people!) are at it again. Or rather life is at them. Alexander Moreland is surprised by a young man who appears at his office disheveled and distressed. Only that young man is a young woman who has completely lost her memory and has by fortuitous circumstances found her way to Moreland's Investigative Agency and will find her way right into Alex's heart. The hunt to find Sabrina's past will uncover much and put them both at risk. In the journey they will discover much that holds them together and recollections from the mists of their pasts. A rollicking good read with plenty of humor, heart stopping moments, and of course romantic inclinations.
His Sinful Touch by Candace Camp is Book Five in "The Mad Morelands" series. This is the story of Alexander Moreland and Sabrina . Sabrina has lost her memory but she knows that someone has to be after her or that she is running from something. Alexander has special ability that helps him understand things with just a touch and when he sees Sabrina he is drawn to her even when Sabrina is badly bruised and dressed as a boy. Alexander offers to help her which leads them into an exciting story. Ms. Camp's book are some of the best that I read and is always me go to author for a good story!
If this was meant to be a slow burn romance, I was bored. And secondly, didn't feel much of a good chemistry between the characters. Perhaps if you enjoy a murder mystery type of story with a backseat romance, then this may be more your alley.
Pros -Each chapter told from alternating points of view between Sabrina and Alex which kept the story fresh and you got a chance to get into the heads of both characters learning their thoughts and feelings on different occurrences. -The writing itself is appropriate for the period. -A few somewhat steamy scenes to enjoy. Did I mention a sexy Son of a Duke?? -Alex’s family is AMAZING!! I kind of want to back-track to read each of their individual stories as they are quite the zany bunch! (I say KIND OF because of the points below) -Definitely an enjoyable cozy read that you don’t have to put too much thought into. -Enjoyable discussions about the Sufferagette movement.
Cons -Using the same descriptions multiple times (i.e, description of Alex “thick dark hair, soaring cheekbones and the dark slashes of his eyebrows above his clear green eyes”) I understand that you’r describing the same person, but you can switch up the descriptors a LITTLE bit. -The pacing was VERY SLOW. I was beginning to wonder when something was going to happen. -There was an inordinate amount of hanging around with Alex’s family and talking about each family member and no furtherance of the plot. Even the relationship between Sabrina and Alex began to get a little tedious. (1st 80% of the book: “God, I want to kiss her….I REALLY want to kiss her…..CAN I KISS HER NOW?” Last 20% of the book… SEX.)
Pro/Con -Slow beginning. A lot of hanging around and getting the back story on the Morelands (good for me, tedious for those who read the prior books of the series as they STILL seemed to be explaining things 22% through the book. If they do this with each book I would be bored to death by this one. As this was my FIRST novel in the series, it was nice to get the down-low on the other family members)
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 Sabrina turns to Alex when she finds she can’t remember who she is or what happened to her. Alex has a special gift where Just by holding objects he can see flashes or feelings from their past owners . The two embark on a journey into Sabrina’s past life to discover who and what she’s hiding from . If Alex and her can keep from falling in love it will be a miracle , but what if they discover she’s married, she is carrying a ring after all. All will be revealed !
It’s the first book I’ve read of Candace’s , but I’m hooked and can’t wait to read the rest from this series , as I’m sure the other characters in the family and so forth ,would have had much more relevance had I done so . “I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
My first and unfortunately, my last foray into Candace Camp novels. Despite the plot of this book spanning just a few days (admittedly not my favorite type of story), time seemed to drag when reading it because the narrative is bogged down by unecessarily long conversations and overly detailed descriptions of mundane actions. Reading this was exhausting and I frequently had thoughts along the lines of “I get it! Let’s move on so something can happen...” The premise was interesting (amnesia, elements of the paranormal), but flat characters and less than stellar writing make this a romance novel you can skip.
Series: The Mad Morelands #5 Publication Date: 1/30/18 Number of Pages: 376
We’ve watched the boyish antics of Constantine (Con) and Alexander (Alex) over the first four books of the series – and now, they are all grown up and are getting books of their own. I love that we’ve gotten to see the lively, intelligent, rambunctious, inquisitive, and mischievous boys grow up and that we’ve been a party to their mischief. We’ve seen them with their menagerie of animals – from a parrot to a boa constrictor – and we’ve held our breaths as they’ve been kidnapped. Now, we get to watch them find their HEA’s – and that is an adventure as well! This book gives us Alex’s HEA and the next book, His Wicked Charm, will allow us to see Con’s HEA. Frankly, the first book I read in this series was Con’s, and I was so impressed – loved it so much – that I’ve gone back and read the entire series – in order. I have loved each and every book in the series.
Alex Moreland is now twenty-five years of age. He and his brother Con own a building in London where they each have their offices. Con has a detective agency (it was once his sister Olivia’s) and Alex is an architect. Alex and Con have a strong twin connection – they know what each other is thinking without actually speaking, they can sense when the other is in trouble, etc. Neither has ever had that connection with anyone else. However, Alex is having that anxious, restless feeling that he usually associates with Con having trouble of some sort. Except, he knows it can’t be Con because he was just speaking with Con who is setting out to do an investigation. As he ponders those feelings, while still in Con’s office, the feelings get more intense – so he steps outside the office and sees a man hurrying through the outer door – only – it isn’t a man. It is a woman dressed – very poorly – as a man – and she mistakes him for Con. When he encourages the misconception, she tells him her tale. She has absolutely no idea who she is and remembers nothing about her past. She knows she arrived in London on the train – and the hackney driver suggested Con’s agency as a good one for finding lost things – and she is lost. The only clue she has to herself is a locket with the name Sabrina and a date so she assumes that must be her name and her birthdate. If you’ve read the previous books, you know that the Morelands fall in love – fast, hard and forever – so you won’t be surprised to learn that Alex is already lost – he just doesn’t know it yet.
Sabrina has no idea who she is. She has no idea why she is in London. Does she live there? Nothing seems familiar. Was she meeting someone at the train station? Nobody approached her – but then she was dressed as a man. Why was she dressed that way? She has a knot on her head, bruises on her face, and bruises like fingerprints around her upper arm. How did she get them? She’s very anxious and fearful and is sure that she is running from someone, but she has no idea who it is. When the hackney driver recommends the Moreland Detective Agency to her, she readily asks him to take her there. When she meets the detective, she’s sure she knows him, but when he doesn’t recognize her, she assumes that she is mistaken.
Alex wonders if this isn’t an elaborate hoax designed by Con, but quickly decides that isn’t the case. With no place else to take her, he takes her to his parent’s home. Sabrina doesn’t realize she’s headed to the home of a Duke and once she discovers that, she isn’t inclined to stay there. Alex convinces her to meet his mother – and she quickly sets Sabrina at ease and insists she stay with them.
The investigation begins in earnest and, of course, that proximity draws them closer and closer. Each knows that they cannot act on any attraction because one of the things that was in Sabrina’s possession was a wedding ring. Is she married? Is she running from an abusive husband? Maybe it is just a keepsake from her mother or another beloved relative. Who knows?
Things get tense when the villains appear and try to lay claim to Sabrina, but Alex will protect her no matter what. Seeing them work together and thwart the villains was lovely and seeing Alex learn to use more of his special ‘gift’ was great.

A woman, dressed as a man arrives on his doorstep seeking help. This is how Alex and Sabrina’s story starts in His Sinful Touch by Candace Camp.
Sabrina has amnesia. The only thing that she knows is that she has just arrived in London on a train. She must go to the investigative agency of the Morelands, in order to gather assistance.
Alex feels as though someone is in danger. He knows that his twin brother is ok, but cannot seem to shake the feeling. Then in rushes, a man. But the man does not seem like a man. Alex eventually realizes that it is a woman and intends to find out what is going on.
From the moment that Sabrina and Alex meet, their lives will never be the same. And as time goes by, and certain truths come to light, more questions are left in their path. Following the path of the clues that lead to Sabrina’s life, things aren’t all what they seem.
I enjoyed the main characters, but the supporting characters just brought so much more enjoyment to my reading. I plan to read the entire series before and after this book. When Alex and Sabrina develop feelings for each other, but fight them because they don’t know if she is married or not, man I just wanted them to get together and forget the past. Have a happily ever after. I loved seeing how their story played out and how Sabrina finally regained her memory. Great story that deserves 5 stars.
Sabrina is a young woman with no recollection of who she is, or where she’s from, is devastating enough, realizing that she’s drugged and possibly beaten is downright frightening! Sabrina knows that someone is out to harm her, her life is in danger! Disguising herself as a man with the few possessions that may help her in finding her identity, with the knowledge in her bones of danger, she flees her unknown captors.
Alexander Moreland is not from a conventional ducal family, he’s wholly unconventional, being a twin has added to their notoriety. When a mysterious man makes an appearance asking for his help, he’s shocked when he realizes she’s a woman! But things are not what they seem and just by looking at her bruises, the feeling of danger he feels she’s in, compels him to help her, Alex is drawn to her and can’t push her away. What ensues for Alex and Sabrina is a flight from danger and a mysterious villain that have them travelling to the countryside. So many questions, so many clues lead them to danger but the biggest danger is losing their hearts to each other.
This was a a fantastic read with so much adventure and intrigue. Witty banter and breathless adventure keep the reader turning the pages. The secondary characters add their own quirkiness and you can’t help but love them as well. Alex and Sabrina have a connection that explodes into a passionate love that conquer their foes.
I received a complimentary copy from the author for my honest unbiased opinion.
This book was a real page turner. I couldn't put it down.
When first I picked this book up, I didn't realize it was number 5 in a series. I really dislike starting in the middle of a series, because you miss a lot of things. I definitely have to go read the first four. The little snippets and hints about previous books were so intriguing! I'm officially hooked.
This story was fascinating! The heroine has amnesia, and can't remember a thing, but she is still a strong woman fighting for her independence. I adored her! The hero was protective, but willing to give Sabrina her space to figure her feelings out. It was so endearing. The hero's family was absolutely amazing. I fell head over heels for the Mad Morelands.
The characters are fully developed and well rounded. The plot was interesting and fully resolved at the end of the book. This was my first book by this author, but it will not be my last!
BUY BUY BUY BUY This is like a wonderful tale you can never get enough of. This family stays in my mind when I am reading other romances! The author is so talented that I cannot get enough of her work. I love the characters, the plot the writing. I like the elements of mystery and intrigue. Most of all I absolutely adore the writing style! I am never bored by this author and it is always a story not just sex! So buy the book and really enjoy it as I did ! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
In the same vein as the rest of this series -- i.e. not only fantastical (which is OK because it unabashedly addresses supernatural topics so there has to be suspension of disbelief to read that) but also wildly improbable. Unlike the other entries in this series, the heroine here was completely unremarkable except, apparently, that she was super hot.
His Sinful Touch is the fifth book in The Mad Morelands series by Candace Camp. I haven't read any of the other books in the series so can safely say that this one can be fully enjoyed as a stand-alone one. That said, now that I have read this one I will definitely go back and read the others!
Sabrina is running away, from what she doesn't know because she has lost her memory. When she arrives in London she has advice from a hackney driver to go to an investigative service for help. It is there that she first meets Alexander Moreland. His twin brother owns the agency but Alex helps out occasionally which is why he is at the offices.
Alex has special psychic abilities, not just the normal twin connection, and even before Sabrina enters the building he picks up on her anguish. He knows immediately that he must help her and as soon as she explains her situation, even though he isn't the investigator of the business, he promises to help her.
The story follows where Alex and Sabrina try to fathom what happened in her past. The time they spend together and a soul-deep connection between them sees their relationship developing. When they discover eventually who Sabrina is running from it seems their relationship is doomed, but Alex swears to do all that he and his family can do to make sure she never ends up back in the hands of the person she was running from.
This book was fabulous. I enjoyed every minute of it because so much was going on. Alex is the perfect hero, such a gentleman, one willing to do all that it takes to look after those that he cares about. Not only did I fall in love with Alex and Sabrina but the whole Moreland family too who I think are an absolute delight to read about. They are definitely not your usual stuffy rich family and I especially loved the psychic abilities that some of the family members had. It gave the whole story that little extra to make it better than your normal Regency Romance. It's one of the reasons I am determined to go back now and read all the previous stories in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.
Candace Camp is an amazing storyteller! I have just turned the last page and I have this great smile on my face!! This story grabs you and does not let go and flows so smoothly. Suspense, Intrigue and a little of the second sight combine with a mystery and a lot of emotion that has you guessing and believing. You feel you are there with the vivid descriptions of surroundings and the characters that come to life. A beautiful heroine who has lost her memory makes her way to Alex Moreland's office asking him to find out who she is because she has no clue. Dressed as a man and carrying very few items, the search begins and so does the connection between the two. You cannot help but love Alex and Sabrina (yes they figure out her first name pretty quickly). I had not read the other books in this series but made it through fine. But, I will be reading the first four as soon as possible because the Morelands are a quirky wonderful family and each has a story. This one will go on my to be read again list and if you like historical romances that are fast paced, intelligent with a great storyline, this is the book for you!!
The series is being relaunched and, although I read it years ago, I confess that I forgot some details of what happens.
Beginning to say that the Morelands are an atypical family. They, each in a different way, have gifts. Grandmother Moreland, for example, would hear and speak with ghosts. It's something very private that they keep to them.
This gift helps Alex and Con (Alexander and Constantine - twins) have a successful investigative agency, although in recent times, Alex has dedicated more time to his study and work at the Architectural Association. Being the son of a duke, many of his peers think they would be very important if they hire him.
His brother Con was about to make a trip to Cornwall and for some reason, Alex did not want to go. And soon after, he finds out why. A young man appears in his office looking for help. But in fact, this boy was a beautiful lady, who could not remember who she was; had some objects in her coat pocket and had marks on her body proving that she was probably running away from someone. Alex understood that his life was linked to that woman, and from the information - the only one she had - that her name was Sabrina, she and Alex face enemies willing to do anything to destroy her reputation.
Meanwhile, Alex and Sabrina become closer...
Another book with the Moreland clan and their different way of being. 4 stars

Although I liked this book (less than I thought I would), it still wasn't what I expect from a Candace Camp historical romance. I don't like the paranormal touch to the story to be completely honest.
I like the love story though and the mystery, but I was hoping for more.
His Sinful Touch is the 5th book in The Mad Moreland series by Candace Camp. I have been a long time fan of Candace’s and I have yet to read one of her books that has disappointed me and His Sinful Touch is no exception. I absolutely loved this book and the storyline is like no other. I highly recommend His Sinful Touch. There is amnesia, disloyalty, kindness, family support, deceit, deception, humor, loyalty, nightmares, twins that can feel when the other is in harms way, insight, mystery and of course love. So travel back in time to London the 1800s and enjoy this mystery with Alex and Sabrina as they try and find out who Sabrina really is and who she is running away from.
With only the contents of her pocket, no memory of herself, dressed in a man's clothes and bruised, Sabrina found herself in an investigative agency to seek help. But with the real investigator's absence, she found herself depending on Alex, the investigator's twin, who has an unusual ability that is really helpful in any investigations. Judging from her physical and mental state, Sabrina was certain she was in the run from someone and weirdly enough, she feels as if Alex can help her solve the puzzle the puzzle that is her life. On the other hand, Alex, who came from a family known as Mad Morelands, is having a hard time believing the 'connection' he seems have with a woman he just met. Also he can't seem to stop himself from falling for her even with the fact that she might be already married. She's carrying a ring after all and other men's stuffs.
The story is ALL romance even though mystery is a big part of it. It is filled with lovely interactions between the two MCs as their attraction is very obvious from the start. Investigating Sabrina's case turned out to be an adventure filled with intrigue and danger. I couldn't help but turn page after page as I was eager to know more. And though, at the back of my mind, I knew what really happened or what will happen, that didn't make reading the story less interesting. The characters: Obviously, I love the MCs. They're both witty and loving. I also liked the side characters especially the other Morelands whose stories are all in these series. The only other book I've read from this series is the first one and it's amazing because then, ALex and his twin, Con, were only kids who are always in trouble. It's great to see him as a MAN now. :)
Overall, this is a fantastic read I would recommend to everyone who loves Hsitorical Romance, Romance, and a little adventure and intrigue. :) :)
Not a bad read. I liked the Hero and Heroine, the story was fun. Although, there is lots of back story, lots and lots of back story. We meet Alex's brother's, sisters, mother, father, uncle, nieces! Their backstory, his backstory, her backstory!!!! At one point I thought, damn, this is a second in a series, isn't it? LOL It did drag on and on a few spots, but other than that it was a good read. I listened to it as an audio book, which I give a five star rating. It was read by a man, but he did an excellent job on all of the voices. I think the reason I kept going on with this book was because I loved to hear him read to me. If they cut out 1/2 of the never ending backstory it would of been better. So, 2 to 3 stars.
