Award-winning digital media star Zach King brings his unique brand of magic to the first installment of a lively, fun-filled trilogy about Zach, a middle schooler in search of his magical powers while navigating the crazy, confusing world of public school. Big Nate meets DanTDM in a debut middle grade adventure by social media superstar Zach King. The book comes complete with a code for a downloadable app that brings Zach’s vibrant world to fully animated, three-dimensional life. Zach My Magical Life is also coming to theaters soon, as the project has been picked up by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Everyone in Zach King’s family has a magical power. His father can turn back time, his sister can turn invisible, and his mother can transform any object into something else. And Zach…well, he hasn’t found his magical power yet and his family is growing worried that he’s been “skipped.” So his parents decide to stop homeschooling him in magical arts and send him instead to a regular middle school with regular kids. To Zach, it’s the worst news ever. Who wants to be ordinary when everyone around them is extraordinary? But Zach quickly learns that going to regular school with regular kids isn’t all that bad. Who knew having real friends would be so much fun? And just when Zach least expects it, he discovers a pair of magical snapbacks that might just be the magical thing he’s been looking for his whole life. The only thing standing in his way is the school bully, Tricia Stands. She’s determined to make sure Zach doesn’t get more popular than she is, and so she plans a prank so awful, so evil, it could cause the biggest disaster Horace Greeley Middle School has ever seen. For fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Timmy Failure, and Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal and anyone who’s ever wondered where they belong, this is the perfect book for you.

*** SPOILER ***
Bir saniye, benim ilave yıldızlarım yok muydu? Dur Zach King'in uygulamasını çıkarıp bir bakayım. Amanın cebimden yıldızlar dökülmeye başladı. Hem de evimin salonunda! İnanılır gibi değil?!
Benim sihirli dünyam her açıdan çığır açıcı. Neden sadece 140 rating var anlayamadım. Her açıdan muhteşemin ötesinde.
The book Zach King: My Magical Life is written by Zach King who is a 26 year old magician and filmmaker. In this book Zach King is an 11 year old boy who comes from a family that has generations of magical powers. Each member of the King family finds their own magical object when they are children, which they use throughout their lives to channel their magical powers. Sadly Zach has not discovered his magical object and is the oldest in the history of the King family to not find their object. This is upsetting to Zach and his family as they wonder if he has been skipped and will be the only King without magical powers.
Zach has been homeschooled all this life with his sister, Sophie but his parents decide to send him to a public middle school so that he can learn to be a non-magical kid in case he never finds his magical object. At school Zach meets his new best friend Aaron and the mean girl Tricia. We also get to know Rachel a little bit as well as the principal and custodian. Throughout the book Zach has to adjust to middle school, find new friendships, deal with the school bully and go in search of finding his magic object.
I really liked that this book was so entertaining and funny and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. An awesome addition to reading this book is that you can download the My Magical Life app and use it to scan the illustrated pages and watch them come to life! I wished the book would have been longer because I wanted to know what adventure Zach and Aaron went on next and if Zach continues to figure out his magical powers.
I would recommend this book to kids 5th grade - 8th grade. I would recommend this book for these grades because it has a middle school setting and deals with all of real-life middle school ups and downs but with a magic twist. I cannot wait for Zach King's second book to come out so that I can find out what happens in Zach, Aaron and Tricia's lives.
Zach is home schooled as he is part of a magical family. But when his magic still hasn't arrived at the age of 11, his parents believe he has beeen 'skipped' and the best thing for him is to go to middle school and learn to be 'normal' like other non-magical kids.
His first day at Horace Greeley Middle School finds him inside a vending machine in nothing but his boxers. But how did it happen? When an online video of 'the trick' goes viral, his new friend Aaron is keen to know how he did it, and for him to do more tricks like that. That's not his only problem - the coolest kid in school has decided to make him look a fool - as often as possible.
When Zach does finally find his magic, it's way cooler than he ever dreamed, but how does he hide the truth from his new friends when they are keen to see more of his 'tricks' online?
Zach soon finds a way, but has to face the bully, his parents and an alligator!
This is the 1st in a new series, made up of both text and full page, full colour illustrations. Set mostly in Horace Greeley Middle School, it's a fun read.
Zach's family is certainly not normal. His father can stop time, his sister can make herself invisible and his mother can change objects. Zach and his sister are homeschooled so they can keep the family's magic secret and also to give them time to practise their magic. The only problem is that they all have a magical object except Zach. They use the objects to channel their magic. Zach is eleven and still has not found his. Could he have been skipped? When Zach's grandad puts up on a magic show, Zach tries to pretend that he can do magic, but it's a disaster and his parents decide to send him to mainstream school. He encounters the school bully on his first day, but also makes a good friend n Aaron. Zach somehow magically ends up in a vending machine and then he finally finds his magical object, which is a pair of snap backs. Aaron and Zach start a blog about his magical feats and get loads of followers. Some of them land the two boys in lots of trouble and then there is a crazy run in with an alligator. He does save Rachel though, who he really likes. Zach discovers he has more magic and I really want to read the next book to find out what happens to him and his friends. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes books about magic and who want a really good laugh. Many thanks to Lovereading4kids for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.
I had my eight-year-old read this book to me for a bedtime story. The book overall was a fantastic, age-appropriate read. He was engaged the entire time, always wanting to keep reading so he could learn what would happen next.
Read this on the recommendation of my 9-year-old who really liked it. I did not really like it though I'm sure it will be very popular with younger fans of Zach King's YouTube videos (which I do like!). It's colorful, quick, and contains graphic elements which also make it attractive for many younger readers. The book started to win me over when the protagonist, a victim of bullying by popular kids at school, declared that it was possible to "be cool without being cruel." It lost me when he then played a mean prank on the main bully. The concept of magic in the book is also not very clear. Each member of Zach's family has some magical ability, but not until they discover a particular object that enables their magic. Zach discovers 2 caps (which he constantly and annoyingly calls "snapbacks") that allow him to do magical things. But he discovers them AFTER he first (unintentionally) does something magical. It also seems that other people can use his caps to do the same things. I assume this will be addressed later in the series, but it detracts from this book alone. I was also bothered by some copy editing errors which is really inexcusable from a book of this length and with this much flash from a major publisher.

YAY for innovative books like this that are truly perfect for the reluctant reader. Not only do you get your standard chapter book, with a story that can hold its own, BUT then the app shows up and just adds so much more that you can keep going back to.
When it comes to the story itself - this is about a boy named (what else) Zach King who was born into a family of magicians. His little sister can turn invisible, his dad can stop time, and his mom can tranform objects. Zach is about to hit middle school age, and has shown no signs of magical abilities, so his parents decide to put him in public school. Of course, once he gets there, there's a chance he might be magical after all, and now he has to try and control that while also being a regular kid!
Like I said, the story can stand on its own even without the app . . . but my favorite part was definitely how well the app went along with the book. There were lots of fun features to find/play around with. My favorite was the comic book pages; you could search for hidden images through the app, and when you found them you gained trophies that filled up a trophy box by the end of the book.
This is truly like a game and a book all in one and I think the series is really set to be a game changer for other middle grade books that want to incorporate technology.
Zach King's family has magical powers - except, perhaps for Zach. He is now 11 but still hasn't found the magical object that will let him unlock his magic. His parents worry that perhaps the magic has 'skipped' him so decided to send him to a regular school. On his very first day he ends up inside a snack vending machine - maybe he is magical after all. But he finds that he can't repeat the trick so has to go back to school only to find he is now a YouTube sensation thanks to his new friend Aaron. Whilst doing detention Zach finally finds his true magical objects but rather than tell his parents, Zach decides to use them to get even with the school bully.
Written by a professional magician, this is the first book in a new series that follows the adventures of Zach King. This story is full of humour and crazy exploits but also includes real life issues such as bullying, friendship and attraction to the opposite sex. Colourful full page illustrations and occasional comic book sequences further enhance the story and there is also an app available that turns the illustrations into 3D animated mini movies. A real movie is also in the pipeline. This title will probably appeal to fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Timmy Failure.
Such a fun, creative, and interactive book for tweens. I myself as an adult really enjoyed this book and looking forward to the sequel. I also enjoyed the interactive app that pairs with this book. I'm a fan of Zach King's Instagram shorts and this book didn't disappoint.
I love reading books that my kids are reading. It creates so many fun conversations. My thirteen-year old son just finished this one and we had a lot of fun talking about it.
Makkeeeeelijk!
Benim Sihirli Dünyam (Zach King's Magical Life Trilogy #1) | #kitapyorumu • 🔮4/5🔮 • Benim Sihirli Dünyam, ilk çıktığından beri merak ettiğim bir kitaptı. Biz de Zach'in ortaokulda kendini keşfetme hikayesini okuyoruz 💛. Her yaştan insan okuyabilir, eğleneceğinize eminim ❤️. Eminim seveceksiniz ❤️. #haftalikyazar @yabanciyayinlari
Zack King’s, Magical Life, was really good. For a long time, I hated reading. After I read the first chapter, I fell in love with this book. Even though I have read this book a 100 times, I still get this heart warming feeling when I read it. Zack’s family is gifted with magical abilities but, this magic only works with a magic object, otherwise the magical abilities do not work. Zach is 11 years old in the book and has not found his magical object yet. His parents decide to have him go to regular school. Zack does not know what to expect in his first year of middle school so, it is really funny to read about his experiences. I enjoyed the characters in this book. Arron, Rachel and Tricia added to the fun in the book. I can relate to Zach, because I am 11 years old and I just started middle school too. I think other kids my age would like Magical Life too, I highly recommend this book.
6/26/2019 ~ Zach comes from a magical family, but hasn't yet found his personal magical object; hence, his move from home-schooling to middle school. Zach meets his new best bud, Aaron, and the archetypal mean girl, Tricia. Oh, and, of course, a potential love interest, Rachel. Though the characterization is rather flat, I think my elementary readers will be attracted to the cover, and possible the author, Zach King, who is apparently a popular YouTuber who makes short videos that appear as if he's doing magic.
The "realistic fiction" (set with human characters in a middle school) with a bit of magic thrown in will appeal to kids ready to step up from Junior Fiction into chapter books. The full color illustrations and occasional graphic novel style panels will invite readers of graphic texts into a more traditional chapter book.
I was reading this middle grade book to see if my students would like it. My 4th grade son came in the room and was amazed to see YouTube illusionist, Zach King. I didn't even realize he was a social media sensation. My boys are definitely wanting to read this one. The story line is cute and I think kids would find it very relatable. It would be a great bridge for kids who love graphic novels but want to try out some books with more text. There are short sections told in graphic, but most of the book is longer text. There is strong picture support and the plot line is not overly complex. I will be recommending this to many of my readers!
I enjoyed following Zach on his journey to find his 'object' to apply his magic. Zach is magical, he comes from a magical family but he seems to be actually lacking the ability to perform magic- well that is until he attends a normal school with normal people. That's when things begin to change for Zach.
I really liked the premise, you really can't go wrong with injecting a little magic into your life. I thought the the story was well written, the imagery was bold and colourful, i felt engaged straight away.
I didn't actual know that the book was based on the Youtuber Zach King until after i read the book, and i thought that was pretty cool.
Miss Lori read and enjoyed learning about Zach and all his friends, while he tries to find out whether or not he has inherited magic like the rest of his family! This is the first in a series and I am sure there will be more fun awaiting Zach as he finds his way through middle school. 4th-6th graders should enjoy these books! (Some illustration/graphics throughout the book)
Read this to my 4 year old daughter- it's all about a boy.. and the girl is mean. First strike Then... for reading this book out loud all the 'zach thought' and 'zach said' .. just hard to pronounce and you automatically lisp through it. We stopped it after 50 pages as I didn't like the story or the characters. Very 'boy'ish' and lame writing.
My kids like Zach's youtube content. I can appreciate fine video editing and special effect when I see them and they are family appropriate content. He's really popular and I was happy with how this turned out. Good story for kids and a great connection between two mediums.
Such a great book but was left on a cliffhanger and there might be another book but I’ll look in it but in all it’s a great mix between a regular book and graphic novel I totally suggest it to anyone!!!
