Only she’s not okay.
When Grav sees Leah’s abusive husband hurting her, he swings into action. Before he knows it, he has Leah aboard his ship. When he’s given a dangerous and difficult mission, Leah volunteers to come along and help…and somehow Grav can’t say no.
But as much as he feels drawn to the lovely little human, Grav knows it can never be between them. For in his past lurks a bloody and savage secret that would turn even the most forgiving heart against him.
From his past and from his true nature Leah must be... Protected at all costs.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🪐🛸🚀☄️🌒 Character development: 🤖👽🥰👽😌
The heroine:Leah Roth - friend to Zoe from Abducted. She was a teacher of young autistic children, though is now married to the boyfriend she had in the beginning of book one. Her husband Gerald is jealous, controlling and abusive. She works for a couple of gay men and their child, and her husband accused her of cheating with her boss and beat her because of it.
The Hero(es):Grav N’gol - he is friends with Sarden from Abducted. Like Sarden Grav is a half breed, though Grav is half Vorn and half Braxian. These are two of the most feared and savage races in the Galaxy and when he was younger he was convicted of murdering multiple people and thrown into prison. Since getting out he has become a protector. He protected his 12 year old charge until she was sent off to a girls school by her grandfather and now he has 2 new charges: Leah and Charlotte, Zoe’s two friends on Earth.
The Story: When Grav goes to the Alien Mate Index ship off of Earth to verify that Leah and Charlotte are safe since Sarden paid them them to make sure the two were not sold to anyone else, he finds Leah being abused by her husband, so he escapes with her to space and plans to take her to the planet Sarden and Zoe rule as King and Queen.
The book is told in dual points of view in dual narration by Mackenzie Cartwright and William Martin. These two both do a great job and have very pleasant voices. I enjoyed listening to this via audiobook and plan to do the last two in the series via audiobook as well.
I loved the characters in this book. Grav was so nice and patient with Leah as she learns to navigate the new world after she discovers aliens exist and goes off with him. I also love the fact that he called her darlin’, which is one of my favorite pet names guys give girls. I think darling is way too formal but I love darlin’. Grav pushed Leah away at first because he has secrets, also because he doesn’t think they can bond due to his half breed status, but he wanted her very bad.
There were other great characters in the book. The main villain in this book is the same as in the first book, Count Doloroso, who is the last of the assimilated, now has a surprising new name and new body and is after Leah since Zoe is out of his reach. He wants to bring back assimilation, where sentient machines inject themselves into live bodies. Though this time, Doloroso wants to create assimilated children born from him and a woman who is a la-ti-zal (born with special powers), and that is Leah.
The science fiction world building in this series is much better than many of the other alien romances I have read. The aliens are not barbarians like in many and they don’t go around naked or wear loincloths. Though Grav is half Vorn and half Braxian, which is a combination of the fiercest races, he is still civilized. Though his Braxian half can go into Berzerker mode if pushed to it, where he thinks of nothing but killing until every last enemy is dead.
The writing is terrific, and though there are some very steamy scenes, the romance and the story are as important or more so than the intimacy between the main characters. This reads more like an adventure sci-fi fantasy than a smutty alien romance.
Well the second book in this series and the hero is blue and has horns! Definitely not the typical alpha male but Grav is all about protecting females although he does come across as such a sweetie at times which slightly negates the tough persona . The fact that he promised to ensure the two closest friends of Zoe stay safe is about to get things slightly skewed as Leah is in danger much closer to home. In fact when Grav arrives it's only just in time to save her from her abusive husband but luckily she's quickly convinced that Grav is the safest option and happily leaves with him but reality sets in pretty quick and Leah is left thousands of miles from home! As I said Grav although admittedly tough and a bit rough around the edges has such a sweet side to him that it's easy to see why Leah falls for him. I don't wish to give the plot away but there's an old enemy still at large and also Grav's past kind of comes knocking at the door which leads the couple on quite an adventure. I do love the authors amazing array of creatures that she invents and yet again here we meet some pretty interesting types. Best of all though is getting lost in this world that has been created and already I find myself wanting more . Fun, sexy and imaginative, now that's my sort of read I was gifted a copy of this in exchange for an honest review
This series is hilarious!!! This is Grav and Leah’s story and I enjoyed it as much as the Sarden and Zoe’s one!
Grav is just a big teddy bear when it comes to females! Otherwise he’s plain scary mountain of alien male! :)
Leah is an abused woman and we get to see her being beaten by her douchebag of a husband!
Grav had some excellent ideas of what to do to him and I wanted to shout to Leah to shut up and let him make true at least one of his ideas!!!
yes, Gerald, go with the nice lady....
But Leah is very nice, almost too nice! She wants to avoid violence all the time!!!
The story is as fast paced and full of adventures as in the previous book. There’re space pirates, kidnappings, Biter’s curses to overcome, Widow to exterminate, all female planet with acid lake to deal with… Even the crazy Count Doloroso was present, this time he took possession of the body of a human very important and rich man (see my updated… I was in tears while reading that part!!!)!!! It was really fun!!!
Obviously there’re some seriously hot scenes where the licking-healing part is involved (like in the previous book)!!!
But, Grav, beaing a honorable male, thinks, stupidly, that he’s not enough and good enough for such a prize as Leah is… and Leah has some tough time trying to convince the stubborn male!
Obviously, this is a romance and after many, many adventures and Leah’s abusive husband’s attempt to kill her, finally Grav gets that Leah is his, his and only his!
I’m sooo looking forward to Charlotte and Verrai’s story!!!
(3.5 stars) -Sci-fi romance craziness: Ms. Anderson has crafted an imaginatively detailed universe outside our own and it’s that universe that is the big draw in this series. So let’s get to it, shall we?
-The skinny: Grav is sent by Zoe, the heroine from book 1, Abducted (only 99 pennies at the moment), to deliver messages to her two best friends, Leah and Charlotte. He sees Leah and he’s immediately drawn to her. However, he’s not as thrilled about her abusive a-hole of a husband. Yes, I said husband. Leah jumped into a bad marriage after Zoe disappeared, to her jerk fiance who’s become more abusive as time goes on. Lots of things happen, and along the way, romance also happens.
-I tore through it in one day, so it’s a quick and easy read. The overarching storyline has grown even more since Abducted, and the humor is on point, which is the strong suit of this series. The things that happen to the villainous Doloroso in this entry (and the body he takes over) are among the most hilarious moments in the story. I like seeing the way these women will impact the universe, and that gives an added layer that makes this is not just your typical abducted alien bride series.
-Admittedly, Grav and Leah’s romance has alot of the same beats as Zoe and Sarden’s, but there’s also enough differences in their personalities to make their romance stand out. The chemistry is fun, Grav’s protectiveness is a huge draw for me and even when they go all dumb bunny for the sake of that action, I still liked them and was invested in their HEA.
-There’s the matter of her marriage, not my favorite of plot points. I understood the why of it, and frankly, her husband was such an abusive jerk that you want him to drop off the face of the earth, but it still bugged me enough to distract me. I thought the story could have gotten where it needed to go without that particular tie, and in the end, the way it wraps up so neatly to just move along to the next entry made me feel that Grav and Leah got a bit of short shrift.
The Bottom Line (3.5 stars) Overall, I liked it. The series is shaping up to be one of the more fun sci-fi reads I’ve had this year. I’m looking forward to Charlotte’s book next.
I liked the second book even more! Knowing that the story would be about Garv made me excited. This book has more adventure than the previous one and Leah as a heroine is a strong character who manages to escape the abusive past as also become more self-confident.
While there were some parts that were pretty scary (like the Widow alien) the whole plot was good with equal parts of fun, swoony scenes and romance!
Reading all the reviews I was damn straight excited for this one. The only reason I read the first was so I could get to this and Boy was I disappointed! It took me four days to finish and a whole lot of self control cause I was ready to dump this at 31%. Usually when I say this I follow it up by adding how glad I was I kept going but here I feel like I wasted my time.
I absolutely hated Leah! She was so TSTL you can use her to define the word. "She was so Leah my nerves couldn't take it." Oh yeah, that bad.
Grav. I know he was supposed to come off as this uber protective guy around who you feel like you're in a warm cocoon but to me he came off totally vanilla. I get past experience tend to colour our personalities but the constant "I'm not worthy" spiel was a definite turn off. Not feeling worthy shouldn't stop you from grabbing what you want with both hands and holding on for the wild ride because the alternate is not even worth considering.
I liked book 1 well enough but this one really turned me off the series and I don't know if I'm gonna read Charlotte's story.
Oh and how could I forget! The sex! There is such a thing a too much sex! Ugh!
I received this for a honest review. This has been a great series so far. This book makes me want to find a Braxian male and rub his horns and see what happens. *smirk* For those that are familiar with Evangeline Anderson through the Kindred Bride series, trust me when I say that if you love that series you will love this one as well.
Leah who did not know she was a La-ti-zal had a monster of a husband. I wanted to reach in the book and punch her husband Gerald a few times. I am not certain if Leah would of got out of the relationship she was in if it was not for Grav.
Grav was a protector. Leah’s friend Zoe had asked Grav to protect her friends Leah and Charlotte. Leah was lucky that Grav had got to her in time. Who knows if she would of survived Gerald’s abuse. Grav had his true nature hidded when he was on earth. He is a Braxian, He was a big tall blue guy with horns. Man to be able to get my hands on those horns. Oops, getting side tracked here. Sorry you will have to read the book to find out why those horns are my fixation.
Grav ends up taking Leah. Leah starts to fall for Grav, horns and all. One of Grav’s former charges is in danger. Grav knows he must do what he can to protect Teeny. Teeny is in some serious dangers. She has been taken by the biters and if bitten could destroy her life for good.
Through this journey of Gav and Leah they both find themselves in danger. Grav already feels unworthy to be with Leah due to his past and not being able to bound, soon he will feel like a failure as well. Leah will have a battle on her hands if she want to open Grav’s eyes. Can she convince Grav that they should be together before it is too late?
***Spoiler Free Review*** I personally hate spoilers. As such, my review is safe to read :)
Not every author could pull off a writing about a horned hero, but EA definitely can. I love her Brides of the Kindred series and if you do too, the AMI will not disappoint you. Reading this new series feels like buying your favorite sweater just in a different color. It's still familiar and you love it for oh so many reasons, but it's still different at the same time.
Grav is the quintessential alpha, teddy bear hero. Mean looking and vicious to his enemies, yet has a special soft spot for females. Leah is a strong heroine who after losing one of her best friends seems to lose her way. Then Grav comes to her rescue she finds her true self. I have to say I thought it was going to be hard to top the first book in this new series, but as usual, EA did not disappoint.
The action was right from the start and it didn't stop. But even then we got a brilliant foreshadowing of the next book in the series.
The only problem I have with this book is that EA writes her heroes so intriguingly that I end up falling for a new book boyfriend with every new book she writes. I feel like I have a harem of book boyfriends and its filled to capacity with all of EA's heroes and Grav is the king of the harem.
I enjoyed this sequel as much as the first in the series. I know we don't all have the same political views, but it made me happy and laugh out loud to think of a Trump/alien pacing around flashing his 2 1/2 inch bratwurst, ha. It would make my day to turn on the tv and hear about how Trump is mysteriously missing and suspected of being abducted by aliens. Too bad this story is fiction. There was was mention on my home town and the horrid palmetto bugs which made it feel relatable to this southern girl. I also like that the aliens in this series have normal humanish male parts... so far! I really want to read Charlotte's story next but I think I may have to wait until sometime next month for it to come out! I hate waiting!
CAPTIVATING, SEXY AND DIVINELY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: Protected Series: Alien Mate Index Author: Evangeline Anderson Designation: Book Two of Series, Full-Length Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: FIVE SINFULLY SEXY ENTERTAINING STARS***** Oh my! Evangeline Anderson totally knocked it out of the park with Protected, Book Two of her exciting new Alien Mate Index Series and here we go again! Anderson wowed me with Abducted, the first release of the series but folks, she truly blew me away with this one! I'm totally smitten with the Alien Mate Index Series! But in all honesty, I think I've died and gone to alien heaven.... populated, of course, with twelve new alien races from the incredibly imaginative mind of Evangeline Anderson. And folks, it just doesn't get any better than this in the science fiction romance genre! I truly love romance, adore science fiction and will totally devour anything with action and adventure, so when I can find each of those elements in one book, well, as I said, I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what Evangeline Anderson does in the Alien Mate Index Series. It has everything you could ever want in a great story including lots of swoonworthy aliens, heart-pounding danger, gut-wrenching drama, agonizing angst, treacherous cunning villains, laugh out loud humor, sweet seductive romance, sizzling hot passion and sinfully delicious sex. The author does a remarkable job of giving backstory throughout the book so Protected can be read as a standalone. However, to enrich your reading experience, I highly recommend reading the books in order of their release. It's one decision I'm sure you'll never regret. If you're looking for a fun, sexy romp, this is most definitely the book for you! I'm a fan for life!
Protected is a fast paced, well crafted, exceptionally imaginative and totally unique, full-length standalone science fiction saga filled to the brim with hot as hades space aliens, action, adventure, danger, drama, suspense, passion, romance, angst, steamy dreamy sex, hot as hades space aliens and some of the most nefarious villains I've ever encountered - in any genre. Yes, yes, I know I said hot space aliens twice, but what can I say? They were hot! The narrative is beautifully written primarily in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives, but also includes an occasional third person pov from two of the other characters. I was immediately drawn into the story by the two protagonists, beautiful, curvaceous Leah Roth, an educational aide for young special needs children, and Gravex 'Grav' N'gol, a blue-skin half Vorn/half Braxian hybrid alien warrior/protector with horns. That's right... he has blue skin, horns growing from either side of his forehead, white on black eyes, and seven feet of all muscle. And did mention he's totally hot, surprisingly charming and has a very dirty mouth??? lol... I fell head over heels for Leah as well as Grav which came as quite a surprise since Grav was introduced in the first book as kinda, sorta a bad guy. But never fear, as this story progresses the facts are slowly revealed and sadly, not all of them are good but the big guy really grows on you! I quickly came to admire him for his commitment and dedication as a protector as well as for his fealty to those he protects. And let's not forget his sexy, dirty mouth! Oh my! And Leah was an absolute delight. She was not only sweet, kind and caring but also brave, determined and completely loyal to those she loved. Leah had such a big heart with so much love to offer the right man...uh...alien. And like both her friends, Zoe and Charlotte, she's no crybaby. Leah is a true nurturer and always willing to help when there's trouble and unfortunately, there's lots and lots of trouble! She was totally awesome! These two characters were perfect for each other and played off each other brilliantly. I found the entire cast of characters to be fascinating, captivating, engaging, sexy and at times, laugh at loud funny. I even loved the villains! The dialogue is smart, snappy, inventive, well executed and flowed effortlessly. Anderson skillfully combines these elements to craft a romantic fun-filled sexy sci-fi romp. In my humble opinion, Evangeline Anderson is an exceptionally gifted storyteller with a boundless imagination who excels at creating richly depicted worlds with vivid and beautifully detailed descriptions, then populates them with unique, intriguing characters who literally explode from the pages and capture your heart. She also enhances her creation with futuristic technology and jargon that is sure to titillate the minds of even the most hardcore sci-fi geeks. If you're looking for a delightfully entertaining science fiction romance that is sure to keep you glued to your ereader, make your heart pound and leave you completely breathless, then this is most definitely the series for you. Quite honestly, when Evangeline Anderson puts pen to paper, the result is nothing short of magical which is pretty darn special since this is science fiction and not supernatural. But my point is this, if you’re a science fiction/alien romance fan, then the Alien Mate Index is one super special series you don’t want to miss! But as usual I digress, let's talk about the premise for the series.
Remember, folks, this is fiction, science fiction to be exact, and according to the incredibly imaginative mind of Evangeline Anderson, it was the Goddess of Mercy who created the universe. She then created a race of beings known as the Ancient Ones to whom she endowed the seeds of life with instructions to sow the seeds throughout the galaxy on the planets capable of supporting life. The result was the creation of twelve alien races who resembled her image. But the Ancient Ones had a little known secret.... there's a thirteenth race also seeded by the Ancient Ones who more closely resemble the Goddess' than any of others on a small blue and green planet that has remained locked for millennia, concealed, protected and cocooned in the safety of its ozone layer....until now. Yup, that would be us, humans from Earth, and apparently we're very special since our planet has been locked! As a result of our isolation in the galaxy, Earthlings still have the original DNA of the Ancient Ones and have never mixed with any of the other sentient species, thereby giving us our name - the Pure Ones. But now, there's a gaping hole in Earth's security blanket and guess who just gatecrashed the party without an invitation? That would be the Commercians who have set up the Alien Mate Index, an agency that abducts Earth brides for alien males...for the right price, of course. They've hung out the open sign on a space station which is currently circling in low Earth orbit, concealed by space junk. And they're greedy little buggers. No really, they literally resemble worms, three foot tall dark blue worms with multiple arms and legs, and bulging purple eyes on stalks that swivel. Yup, apparently females are scarce in the galaxy and the alien warriors of the Twelve Peoples, also descended from the Ancient Ones, are searching for mates. And Earth girls are easy! lol... No, just kidding, but Earth females are their first choice. And surprisingly, certain Earth females called La-ti-zals are even more special and much more valuable than others. They have been bestowed with varying special latent gifts or abilities by the Ancient Ones. The La-ti-zals are very rare and sought by many. Oh my! Better stay away from shiny surfaces, ladies because you could be next....you could be snatched anytime... from anywhere, sucked right through a worm hole to the Commercians' space station and sold as a warrior's mate... or concubine! Oh dear! So many hot, handsome alien males to choose from but wait.... we don't choose them; they choose us. I guess the real question is not which handsome alien would you choose... but rather who will choose you??? Oh my!
Gravex 'Grav' N'gol is happy for his friend Sarden D'Lagorn who has recently become the ruler of Eloim now that he has bonded to Zoe McKinley, the lovely little red-haired female from Earth who surprised everyone, including Sarden, by being not only a Pure One but also a La-ti-zal. Sarden thought he would never be able to find a true bond mate since he's a half breed, half Vorn and half Eloim. It's just impossible; nevertheless it happened but it could never happen to Grav. Like Sarden, Grav is also a hybrid but he's half Vorn and half Braxian which is bad, very bad. Braxians are the most feared race in the galaxy because they're beserkers which also makes them great warriors and protectors. But Grav is a criminal haunted by a painful past littered with dead bodies and a deep, dark secret, one no one can know. After escaping the Slam (prison), he has devoted his life to being a Protector and his friend Sarden has asked him to travel to Earth to check on the safety of his mate's two best friends, Leah and Charlotte, who more than likely are also La-ti-zals. Lady Zoe is convinced that Count Doloroso is somehow still alive and poses a threat to her two friends back on Earth. Grav took an oath to guard with his life the females he accepts as wards and he takes his oath very seriously. He'll do whatever it takes to get the job done...even if it means killing. And right now his job is to get to Earth to save Lady Zoe's two friends. One of them seems to be fine but the one named Leah Roth is in grave danger and he must be the one to save her. Of course, it has nothing to do with the fact that she has luscious curves, beautiful brown eyes and silky dark hair that falls to her waist, and certainly nothing to do with the fact that he would like to claim her as his own...which is completely impossible and could never, ever happen. It may have happened for Sarden but it could never happen for a murderer like him. He would never be good enough for a Pure One and La-ti-zal like Leah. Of course, Grav faces a few little problems. He's a seven foot tall alien with blue skin, white on black eyes and horns for god's sake. He's an ugly son of a gun and would surely scare her to death, right? Surprisingly, his appearance may be the least of his problems. You see, Leah has no idea she's in danger and she certainly doesn't know or trust him. Who in their right mind would trust an ugly blue alien with horns, right? Exactly! Apparently, Leah would, especially when she's being beaten to a pulp by her abusive husband Gerald. Oh my! It looks like Grav may be just in time.... if the Commercians can get him transported down to the planet! But sadly, Gerald is not the only male who has plans for the lovely Leah, which leads Grav to his second problem. It seems Count Doloroso is still in the game as Zoe suspected and has big plans for Leah and the Galaxy! Count Doloroso is like a bad penny that just keeps turning up! But there's an even bigger problem for Grav! It seems Leah is finally growing a backbone and is ready to go after what she wants. And she wants Grav! She's very attracted to the big blue lug and he's more than a little attracted to her. So what's a girl got to do to convince a half Vorn, half Braxian warrior to take a chance on love??? Well, she could start by traveling across the galaxy to help him rescue his former ward, Teeny! Oh my! Here we go again!
When reviewing and rating a book, there are several questions I always ask myself. First, did I like this book? Duh, I think the answer is obvious. I loved it! Second, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy dreamy love scenes. Third, will I read this author again? Abso-freakin-lutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! Fourth, was I entertained? Oh lawd, yes! I was completely entertained. Once I started reading, I simply could not stop. The pages flew as did the time with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest. I laughed, I cried and several times, I even shook my fists in anger, but by the end I was well pleased, satisfied and entertained. My final verdict: Protected is a divinely entertaining science fiction saga filled with danger, drama, action, adventure, suspense, humor, romance and some steamy dreamy sex. And one you will surely enjoy reading! So, buckle up my lovelies, it’s a wild ride! Bring on Book Three Evangeline Anderson. You keep writing them and we'll keep reading them! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
I think I enjoyed this second instalment of Evangeline Anderson’s Alien Mate Index series more than I enjoyed the first instalment. This is a romcom alien romance series that leans pretty heavily into the crazy and ridiculous but still manages to be fun. On the whole the series has a good blend of romance, comedy, and sci-fi adventure.
I think what helped me enjoy this second book more than the first was the fact that I was already familiar with the world and the tone of the story. This one can definitely lean into the ridiculous and cringey at times but now that I’ve gotten used to that I tend more towards laughing or eye-rolling at the crazy antics and happens rather than hard cringing!
The other big plus for this second book was the fact that Grav was a far easier character to like instantly than Sarden. Grav might have been a known murderer and escaped convict but he was a total softie with Lia from the first meeting and super easy to like.
I quite enjoyed the fact that we get a bit of sci-fi adventure mixed in with the romcom. We got the return of Count Creep the Assimilated as he targeted Lia and that resulted in a hilarious development as he decided to steal a new body directly from Earth!
I enjoyed the romance a lot better in this one as it felt more smooth and also enjoyed the fact that Grav had more than just Lia to protect.
All in all this was a weird and fun read. Again Anderson managed some set up for the third book in this one and I’m interested enough that I’ll definitely continue onto the next instalment of the series. This is not my favourite romance series but it is definitely enjoyable enough to be worth the reading even if the aliens in this are a lot more kinky than your average Trek alien!
Rating: 3.5 stars.
Audio Note: As with the first book the bulk of the story was narrated by Mackenzie Cartwright who did the Zoe POV but we also had Willian Martin doing the Sarden POV chapters. I quite enjoyed Cartwright’s narration. She seemed to get the tone of the story and was decent with the voices. Martin got the tone of the story and was an OK narrator outside of the fact he really struggled with the female voices. The big flaw was the transition between the two narrators was not particularly smooth so it was jarring at times. It would have been better if they just had Martin handle all the male dialogue and left Cartwright to do everything else. Feels like a botch on the production side not to properly utilise the duel narrators!
This book took me a few days to read just because I was really busy with packing up to leave college (for good) & then driving hours home.
Grav takes Leah from Earth when he comes across her husband beating her. They go on a quest to rescue Teeny, Grav's former ward. (I feel like Teeny keeps on getting abducted. I feel badly for her.)
My favorite part of this book was how Count Doloroso bought the body of a wealthy & influential male on Earth, Trump. She wrote this book before the 2016 election happened, so Trump wasn't president yet. His abduction here prevented him from competing in the election lol. Evangeline Anderson never explicitly said his name, but it was obvious. She mocked his tiny hands & gave him a tiny penis too.
The Widow & the Spider's Web, the Biter's Curse, etc. were all interesting parts of the story.
There is only one sex scene in this book (sadly), so I won't be labeling it as erotic.
I could be wrong, but I felt like the name of Sarden's sister was spelled differently here from Book 1.
"Protected" is the story of Grav and Leah. Grav is a half breed Braxian warrior with a dark past- which he's moved on to be one of the best Protectors and feared men of his race, thanks to the blue skin and mean horns. When he's given the mission to rescue Leah, a la-zi-tal, he never thought it would have to be literally from an abusive husband. While they travel galaxies initially to meet Zoe in Eloim, and later to rescue Gravs ex Ward Teeny, they discover their intense attraction and fall for each other. If you love a caring and wonderful hero- Grav is IT for you. Such a kind hearted yet fierce character- he is a considerate alpha and perfect for Leah, who's already suffered enough due to her douchebag husband. We see Leah growing in the book, from a lady who was afraid to make her decisions, to a confident of species. My only issue was the space insects throughout the book, and the description of the giant spider widow with eggs and stuff.. NOT a fan of insects and spiders. That's gonna give me nightmares! Esp the scene with spiders crawling everywhere and eating.. *shudders* The book has a single sex scene- and it's totally 500 on the hot scale. Meow! I really liked that the loose ends were tied up in the end, and pretty excited for Charlotte's story. Safe 4/5
Insert a very long stream of a curse words right here because GR ate my review and I'm not redoing the whole thing so it's going to be a quarter ass review instead.
Basically Leah is a timid mouse because she had a douche of a husband who liked to season his fists on her. Grav was BFF's with Sarden and said he'd check on Leah, Zoe's friend, and he sees the douche husband going to town on her, so he portals in to season his fists on the douche. They leave to go visit Zoe. But before they can get there, Grav's ward has been kidnapped and they have to rescue her.
The whole book is about Leah and Grav wanting to jump each other, but holding back for various reasons. She's still married to a douche, Grav is a convict. Obviously Grav doesn't know TV shows think convicts are hot, hello Prison Break and Orange is the New Black, etc. So the book is all about their sexual tension and trying not to get it on.
Grav is a nice guy, despite what his prison tatts say, which I assume is "I like to murder people." He's really sweet to Leah and blah blah blah. But he has a fatalistic view of things and mucks it up with her. Blah blah blah.
I didn't like this book as much as the previous one mostly due to the fact that it's not funny. Both characters were fine, I just didn't enjoy their inner monologues and POV's as much as I did the first book. 2.5 - 3 stars
Grav is a protector and an ex con he has been trusted to protect Leah a earth female chosen to be a pure one who is very valuable. This book took off with a great start I was glued to my Kindle i finished reading this in one day. The adventure both MC experience will leave you breathless the passion both Leah and Grav have is so hot your going to need something to cool off its a scorching hot and exciting book this by far my favorite book in this series by far. No spoilers here i highly recommend this book. I was given this copy for a honest review
I really liked this hero from the first book in the series and I like him here. I like the heroine as well but the plot felt tiresome and with so much going on the romance part of the plot didn't feel convincing.
Protected is the second book in Evangeline Anderson's newest series The Alien Mate Index. This series is wonderfully imaginative. Now that the humans have allowed a hole to develop in the ozone layer earth is no longer shielded from aliens. Apparently the Creators who seeded the universe placed the ozone layer around the earth to keep the humans as close to "pure ones" as possible and up till now they have not mated outside their species. Now alien merchants that appear as wormlike creatures are taking orders and planning to make a nice profit by abducting humans, especially those wanted as potential mates for alien populations. I highly recommend starting with book one "Abducted" which explains much of the premise for the alien mate index and introduces many of the characters whose a storylines intersect, connect and build upon each other.
This story focuses on Grav and Leah. Grav was a convicted murderer who spent time in a high security prison but is now working as a Protector. Grav is also a half breed made up of two species characterized by their innate ability to protect and beserker traits that may appear when defending those they have sworn to look after or during (intense) sexual relations. Since this author is an expert at writing hot steamy romantica you can bet there will be a good amount of some sinfully naughty scenes throughout the book.
Although Grav considers himself a hardened criminal capable of extreme violence he is actually a loyal and trustworthy male with a tender and vulnerable side he hides almost too well. Hired to protect Leah and her friend, Grav finds himself drawn to this "pure one" in every way possible. Between his violent past and his mixed breed status he believes he is unworthy of having any relationship with the beautiful earth female beyond keeping her safe.
Leah has other ideas though. A victim of marital abuse both physical and mental, Leah is shocked to be rescued by a large alien male. Once she accepts the facts that there are many aliens in the universe and that she is truly in a spaceship with one Leah begins to come into her own. Freed from a miserable marriage that had taken a violent turn Leah learns the truth of who and what she is, a pure one with special powers.. These powers start to emerge and become stronger the further away from earth she is taken as well as thru her sexual awakening. Leah feels almost like there is an electrical charge between herself and Grav. Being attracted to this alien male is quite surprising to Leah who thought herself numb when it came to sexual feelings with any men up to now including her husband.
Grav takes Leah into his custody for her safety but finds out he must go on a quest to save the young female Who was his wars on his last assignment. Grav takes Leah on the adventure of a lifetime thru many new universes and planets filled with wonder, danger and excitement.
I love the creative, mesmerizing alien worlds Ms.Anderson creates and this series has many to explore as well as quite the list of different alien races looking for compatible females to mate with. Readers might just find themselves wondering how to sign up for this alien mate index. A fast paced exciting imaginative adventurous book that is a great follow up to Abducted, ice water is suggested for some hot sexy scenes as well. Can't wait for book three, the premise for which is set within this story and there is an excerpt at the end it promises to be amazing.
Evangeline Anderson knows how to set your panties on fire, but at the same time the story surrounding the steamy love scenes is always on par. It all fits. There is tension and there is action. The characters have a purpose and they don't just fall in love with each other. There's a slow burn oops I mean build, but the story moves swiftly and with a great pace.
Such a great book. I can't wait to move on to the next book. I can say that I hope the paralegal friend of Zoe's gets her story told. :)
This was a pretty good story. I liked both Grav and Leah and liked their story. I will say that this is a little SJWish as it preaches climate change as part of a mystical protection that was on the Earth and once we let holes form in it, it opened us up. Which is allowing aliens to kidnap members of our race for mates. Also, a bad guy kidnaps and takes over the body of a person of importance from Earth and it isn't a very nice portrayal.
Leah is therapist that works with special needs kids. She's also married to an abusive husband that she feels trapped with. Leah's BFF, Zoe (the heroine from book #1, Abducted) went missing 6 months before and Leah and Charlotte tried to find her but had no luck.
Grav is a Protector...a bodyguard who pledges their life to protect the woman they've pledged to protect. Grav is a good guy but he's killed many, some of those in situations that weren't good (although he had good reasons) and have left him a wanted man in some areas of the galaxy.
Grav is friends with Vorn (Mate to Zoe from book #1) and is asked to go to Earth to check on Leah and Charlotte to make sure they're ok. They took measures to make sure the 2 women wouldn't be kidnapped as mates but they still don't know what happened to Zoe so Grav goes to Earth. He gets there to deliver the messages and finds a bad situation between Leah and her husband that he has to rescue her from. Things get difficult when the authorities get involved so Grav offers to take Leah to see Zoe and she agrees. Zoe normally wouldn't take off like that but it seems like a good move at the time and she trusts Grav for some reason. There's an unexpected attraction between Grav and Leah that shows up pretty quickly and becomes hard to ignore.
As Grav and Leah are on their way to see Zoe, a situation arises that requires Grav to act immediately to save a young girl. Leah offers to help and it's a situation that requires a woman so Grav is stuck into agreeing. As the trip proceeds, their attraction and feelings grow and Leah is interested in exploring things but while Grav is interested, he doesn't feel worthy of Leah because of her status and his hybrid status as well as his past. Grav and Leah succeed in their mission and come out of things alright but Grav's suborn insistence on thinking he can't have Leah almost makes it true. Thankfully, with a little help, Grav realizes his idiocy and does what's needed so he and Leah end the story starting a HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Leah and thought that while she was a tiny bit reckless at times, overall she was a pretty good and balanced character that handled the situation well and I liked her. Grav was great except for his insistence in thinking he wasn't good enough. I am pretty happy with the characters and story and liked how things ended so I would recommend it. It is a standalone but it does set things up for book #3, Charlotte's book.
* note - I listened to the audio version of this story. It had a female narrator for the parts from Leah's PoV and a male narrator for the parts from Grav's PoV and both narrators did very good jobs.
Sci-fi romance has become my new addiction and Evangeline Anderson's Alien Mate Index is fast becoming a favorite of mine! I blew through the first book in one night but as awesome as Sarden was, I have to admit that I totally fell in love with Grav and I could not wait to get my greedy paws on that sexy blue-grey skinned alien hunk!
Grav was sent by Sarden and Zoe to deliver a message to Zoe's two best friends and to make sure that they were still safe on Earth, but when Grav sees Leah being beaten by her abusive jerkhole husband his protective instincts overwhelm him and he rushes to her rescue.
Grav is your typical big bad alpha but for all his fierceness he is an absolute teddy bear when it comes to women. I just adored his gentleness with Leah and his young ward, Teeny. He fell hard for Leah but like the typical bonehead alpha male he felt he was not good enough for her. However when you hear about his background it's easy to understand his insecurities. My heart just broke for Grav but I did want to smack him a time or two over his refusal to bond with Leah.
I loved how Leah's character blossomed. She started out timid and unsure from all the physical and mental abuse that she suffered during her marriage but by the end of the book she was confident and able to stand up for herself. I have to say that I admired the amount of Leah's inner strength when Grav sent her back to Earth. I don't think I would've been able to leave without at least giving him a swift kick for being so damn stubborn over the mating especially since he already admitted his feelings towards her.
Fast paced action, great storyline, beyond smexy aliens and a good dose of humor (Dolorosa in the human body? *dies laughing*) Protected is another fabulous addition to the AMI series and I can't wait to see what happens next in Charlotte's book.
I'm giving you fair warning that this review contains some spoilers. I've always loved Evangeline Anderson as a writer, I love how long and in depth her books are. The way that she is able to paint a picture in my mind makes reading her books such a treat. With that being said, I had major mixed feelings about this book. I loved the hero and heroine of this book. I loved the interactions between them and the great journey they went on together. The main characters were amazing as individuals but together they were even better. There was one thing in particular that really disappointed me about this book and that was the villain in this story. It was quite obvious that the secondary plot in this book was just a way to make fun of Donald Trump. It made fun of everything about him from his "orange skin" to his little "vienna sausage" all the way to the end with killing him by having him overdose on Viagra. I like reading books because it opens a door to an amazing new world and I can immerse myself in something new and fantastic. After reading about her making fun of a real person, it took me out of the "magic" of this book. I really didn't appreciate how Ms Anderson used a sci fi romance (of all things) as a way to further her own political agenda and as a way to be nasty towards another human being. In an age where online bullying is so severely discouraged, I really think she hit below the belt. I'm really disappointed that Ms Anderson chose to be mean and petty. I've always held her work in high esteem, I really don't think I can anymore after reading this book.
Fun series so far! Ms. Anderson always manages to create a plot line that keeps me interested from the first page to the last. I read often enough that I tend to spot the obvious "oh...well that is going to be used at the end of the book. That was some definite foreshadowing." I do spot it but there is so much going on in the adventure that I completely forget about those foreshadow moments and am completely surprised when they come up again!
The characters are fun. Grav, the giant berserk-er of a man is a complete softy when it comes to females. Leah is easy to relate to in that she doesn't ever really seem like just a character. She really seems like she could live down the road from me. Together they make a sexually frustratingly awesome pair.
I love the flow between the first book and the second. We get old characters the continue to pop up, much like Ms. Anderson's Kindred series. I look forward to the next installment in the series because she never ceases to get my hooked on the characters for the next book before I've even finished the one I'm on!
Can we discuss the hilarity of these books? There is so much subtle humor that I was laughing out loud. There is one particular bad guy who takes a very, shall we say, well known human body. One that will have you laughing hysterically at her physical description.
I'd highly recommend reading the first book before this one. However, this can be read as a standalone.
I skimmed around. I love AE book covers I just don't like her writing style that much. I don't like when characters talk to the reader. I'm not sure why I think her writing style is awkward. Definitely check this out if you've liked other books by AE. You won't be disappointed.
The H was a sweetie w/ the h. I liked the h. But I was tired of him thinking he wasn't good enough for her. I like when the H is the aggressor. She had to seduce him.
I love the world AE has created.
LoL there were some funny parts i.e.-Trump missing.
I just love this series. Grav is an alien who has chosen to become a protector. He gives his oath to a female and will do all in his power to protect her, even his life. He is protecting the human female Leah. But she doesn't know it until he mysteriously shows up to protect her from her abusive husband. To save her he takes her throughout the Galaxy. But the feelings between the two will change. Can he except his feelings for the big and beautiful Leah?
I got wait other month for the other that just cuz I really need to read like yesterday but no I have wait until August 30. ....uh... I really like this new by Evangeline Anderson series it so good everybody who like this genre of book will love this one
I loved this story! It was everything I hoped it would be! Funny, action-packed, romantic, exciting, and of course incredibly hot. I am loving this series and I absolutely recommend to fans of sci-fi, who love plenty of romance, and an exciting new world to escape into.
4.5⭐️ Trigger warning: Domestic violence This book has a darker theme than the first book but it is still funny. The Donald Trump thing, HILARIOUS! This book didn’t give the same vibes and caused me a small amount of stress with the DV without a trigger warning. This one is second person POV as well but there is not as much direct communication to the reader. I already started recommending it before the book was over.
I originally dnf'd this but I've been in a book funk for so long that I'm in the 'beggars can't be choosers' stage.
So I gave it another try and finished it this time. There were some parts I liked and some parts I really didn't like. See my keywords/tags for more info.
