Onyx - Book 1

Feared as a demon because of his two different colored eyes, as well as by his outlandish actions, Highlander, Onyx MacKeefe is known as a madman. While celebrating his birthday one cold night at a Lowland pub, he meets a bonnie Englishwoman who says she is searching for her father's murderer and thief. And when he recognizes the name of the person she seeks as his own mother, his birthday takes a bad turn.

Lady Loveday de Lacy, known as Lovelle, comes looking for not only a murderer from the past, but also something that's been stolen - her mother's Book of Hours. She is desperate to find it, as she needs the help of the mystical charms at the back of the book. But when she meets a rugged Highlander who takes her captive in order to secure his mother's life, she finds herself being reckless, and also attracted to the dangerous man.

But things only become more complicated as Lovelle and Onyx find themselves needing each other, but knowing they are enemies. And the more they try to fight off the attraction between them, the stronger it becomes. But neither of them see the harrowing future in store for them as Onyx is faced with demons of his past and there is also an outbreak of the plague that threatens their very lives.

Can a proper Englishwoman and a Scottish madman find the strength and will to work together before impending doom overtakes them?

(Author's note: Onyx is the brother of the girls from the Daughters of the Dagger Series.) Watch for Aidan - Book 2 in the MadMan MacKeefe Series, coming in Jan/Feb 2014.

Onyx by Elizabeth Rose. Book 1 in her intriguing Medieval Paranormal Historical Romance, "MadMan MacKeefe" series.
WOW! What a captivating series, thus far.
Well written, fast paced with captivating and seductive characters. The storyline is unique, intriguing and utterly mesmerizing with many twists and turns and an ending the reader won't see coming. Amazing!

Onyx MacKeefe, a Highlander who has flaws, vulnerabilities, insecurities, filled with hatred and abandonment issues. Lady Loveday de Lacy, known as Lovelle. An Englishwoman looking for answers to the secrets of the Book of Hours. Both Lovelle and Onyx need answers to their heritage, the past, and their families' secrets in order to save their mothers. But will they be able to save themselves and stop a plague before all is lost?
Onyx and Lovelle have an instant connection, of course passion runs hot and true.
There is a large cast of characters. I can't wait to dive deeper into their stories, as well.
Filled with secrets, dangers, passion, magic, finding answers,a plague, the Book of Hours, and love. A multifaceted story. Ms. Rose did a fantastic job of relaying Onyx's abandonment issues, his hatred, his insecurities, all without making him out to be weak.
A unique Scottish Paranormal Historical Romance. I can't wait to read Book 2 in this captivating and mesmerizing series. I sure didn't see the ending coming. A great read for fans of Scottish PNR, Highlanders and magic. Enjoyable and very satisfying!
Received for an honest review. However, all opinions, insights and thoughts are my own personal opinions.

Onyx is the first book in the MadMan MacKeefe series by Elizabeth Rose. It was first published in 2013 so it's taken me a while to come across it. I am very glad that I did though. This author and this series are definitely ones that I am going to read more of/from.

The blurb of this book is pretty thorough in telling the plot of the book so I needn't go into further detail. What I will say though is that I adored Onyx, he comes across as such a strong, protective sexy Scotsman, and boy oh boy, the intimate scenes between himself and Lovelle were steaming hot!

Lovelle starts off as a character that I didn't particularly like, too haughty even though she did have good reason to be searching for Onyx's mother. Thankfully as time continued I learned to like her and was pleased to see her and Onyx's relationship develop.

I enjoyed the intrigue and the twists and turns of this story. Onyx and Lovelle's lives have been intertwined for much longer than they could have dreamed. When certain things come to the fore I couldn't help but feel the same emotions as the characters themselves. I was absolutely gobsmacked when a truth was revealed about Onyx's father. Talk about not seeing something coming!!

I really only think there was one thing that made me cringe in the story and that was when as a newborn baby, Onyx was supposed to be wide-eyed and had a big smile on his face when he was first introduced to the story. Not the actions of any newborn baby that I have come into contact with. It's just a niggling thing, but it stops the story being perfect. Other than that I definitely have no criticisms and am very happy to recommend the book. I definitely plan to read more of the series.

Onyx MacKeefe is used to everyone believing he is the devil because of his odd coloured eyes. He also has a habit of dying and coming back. His mother has been arrested for a murder that happened years ago, and to hope to save her he must return the book she stole.
Lady Loveday de Lacy is determine to get the book from her father's murderess. She needs the charms written in it to stop her mother from losing her mind. She has already lost too many of her family. If traveling to the highlands with the sexy Scotsman is the only way, that's what she will do.
This is an usual highland romance. Our hero is really quite vulnerable. Our heroine is brave and stubborn. With the plague running through the country travel can be even more dangerous. There are a lot of emotional moments and visits from characters we have met in previous books. This is the first in a box set. I can't wait to read the rest.

I have read this book twice now and loved it each time. I enjoyed the rapport between Onyx and his two friends, Aidan and Ian. Onyx had quite a hard life but it was good to see how he developed throughout the book. His meeting with Lady Lovelle and subsequent relationship was endearing. This was a good paced storyline with a few unexpected twists and turns.
I did receive a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. I did purchase it as part of a set as well.

Onyx: Madman McKeefe Series, Book 1

While celebrating in a local pub with his friends and clan members, Onyx couldn't possibly imagine how one English woman will change his life. Together, Onyx and Lovelle uncover secrets of a past Onyx never knew, a heritage, siblings and a love that will last forever.

PAST, PRESENT, OH TO FOLLOW ONE'S DESTINY!

5 STARS absolutely for Onyx by Elizabeth Rose, an author it has been my pleasure to find and MMac Series Book 1 an exciting adventure from the first paragraph. Elizabeth Rose enforces her right to the 5 STARS throughout her well written, gripping entertaining action with endearing emotional scenes salted all over seemingly just right. A young man in his early 20's, 2 different colored eyes, wild, called a demon and raised as a Scot has to deal with finding a strange book that his mother had hidden, She is now a prisoner of the hated English. Onyx must find this book to save his mother from death. Lady Love, needs that book that has been stolen 20 years ago from her mother by the person who killed her father. Onyx had never had anyone love him because of his eyes, Lady Love was married off at 14 to a man over 40 years older, after she got pregnant he quit her bed and her. So, these two emotional ly starved and love starved, for personal one on one love and relationship is breathtaking. However, Onyx appears to turn blue and die when he is extremely OVERCOME with anxiety or emotions appearing dead. Oh my, thrilling loved it, now in to 2 & 3 then other books by Elizabeth Rose a terrific thrilling author who has a great receipe for action, characters, emotional and sex.

This story has a little of it all! Murder, suspense, mystery and strong feelings of love and mistrust. Onyx Mackeefe has always felt fear and mistrust from everyone due to having different color eyes. Many felt he was a demon which added to his wildness and sense of adventure. Raised in the clan by his mother and never having known his father, he is shocked when Lady Loveday de Lacy, an Englishwoman rides in and claims his mother is a thief and murderer. Lovella has Fenella, Onyx's mother, taken to England to stand trial, so Onyx holds onto Lovella so that they can find evidence his mother is innocent. Thus begins a journey to find a book that Fenella had stolen and Lovella feels will help cure her mother by certain spells it contains. The two have to work together to accomplish their goals but find a strong attraction that cannot be denied developing. This book is part of a new series but can be read alone. As in keeping with all of Elizabeth Rose's books, you will be pulled in from the first pages and not be able to put it down until the end.

EYE LOVED THIS BOOK! (You'll get that reference once you read the book.) This story had so many elements that were unique and different from all of the other historical romance novels out there. I found Onyx absolutely fascinating, and my heart just broke for him and how people normally viewed him. I thought Lady Love's unusual quirk was a brilliant way in which she given the chance to truly see Onyx as a "normal" man, upon first meeting him. I thought these two characters were just perfect for each other, and their relationship was such a joy to watch as it evolved and grew and developed into something truly special.

*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

Maybe if I had read this at another time, I might have enjoyed it more. I found the overall story to be predictable with few surprises. The writing wasn't horrible but the characters didn't move me. This and the second book were freebies via Book Bub so I will try to give the next one a fair shake but if it seems to be more of the same then I will do what I should have done with this book ... stop reading and move on to something else.

ONYX. Last book of Daughters of the Dagger series and the first book in the Madman Macheffe's series. Elizabeth Rose has done it again. What a beautiful series about finding the love of your life and matching dagger's. The one was special to me since Onyx was born dead with two different color eyes that feared everyone. He was given a chance in finding true love and reuniting with his love ones. This series is a must read. 5 stars all around.

Fascinating story with all the ingredients of rescue heartache, passion, hate, friendship, family love and support as well as historical documentary of Scottish vs England's prejudices and way of life in the 14th century. Story grabbed me from the start, got a little tedious in the middle but quite a page turner in the end.

Ok

I like the beginning..it kind of fell off towards the end. The twists were told in the beginning so towards the end it was just a little retelling. Not sure if I'm up to reading the series.

This is Onyx's and Lady Lovelle's story. Onyx calls her Lady Love or just Love most of the time. It was very enjoyable. Onyx is the brother to the Daughters of the Blade. They all have jeweled daggers. They are named for the stones in them. He was raised by the McKeffe clan.
