Nine While Nine

Rate this book
Isabeau Finne’s perfect world utterly unravels when she meets Death's right-hand man one fateful night, spiraling her life into a world of chaos and the impossible.

Suddenly, she is no longer Isabeau and becomes part of the most secretive inner-workings of Death itself, as well as an otherworldly dominion of ancient magic.

Now beings—which we were taught as children were merely fictional creations of wildly whimsical minds—are edging their way into her world as well.

Buggans and Kobolds and Vargs….Oh my!

She yearns for the simplicity of her old life—this one is full of dangers, unanswered questions, and cryptic dreams.

After one particularly anomalous dream in which she learns of the Nine While Nine Legacy, things become truly precarious.

Now, someone sees her as a risk…a threat…and wants to eliminate her.

Fortunately, she falls under the protection of Gideon—unless she leaves his territory—which is the one thing she wants the most…and wants the least.

No Time to Cry is both highly original, and unpredictable. The story starts out in immediate chaos and action as the heroine is thrust into her new world, an effect that is equally as abrupt for her as it is for readers. We follow her into this new world, sharing her confusion, her frustration at not understanding who/what she is and what is expected of her, and her feelings about the people who are now her peers.

There is enough revealed in this first book to provide an exciting setup for whatever comes next. This first act is tied up well enough not to be exactly a cliffhanger, but with enough unresolved to make me need the second book, stat!

Also, I really appreciated the guides in the back, both a glossary and pronunciation guide for all the Gaelic terms used within the text. They can be daunting at times, but the reference materials help make that simpler to wrap your head around and learn alongside the protagonist.

This book was very different than what I normally read but it was very good and interesting! It's a kinda dark book which makes sense with it being about grim reapers and death. However it left me with so many questions from the very that didn't get answered even in the end. I will definitely be reading the second book to get my answers lol

My purchase of this book was a serious case of cover love, I make no apologies for that. Plus I have a deep love for anything dealing with the world beyond the veil, whether you call them Fae, Siog, Elves, etc! So it wasn't hard to believe that I'd love this book. Stasia Morineaux promised me a world filled with creatures from beyond my understanding. A world where death wasn't the end, but simply the beginning of something new. I was already enchanted, and so ready to settle in.

I have to admit that Isabeau wasn't my favorite character at first. Morineaux does an excellent job of fleshing out the type of person that Isabeau is, from her fashionable clothing down to her old world roots. I did love that Isabeau refused to go quietly into her new life. After all, who would want to leave behind everything they love? However I couldn't let go of how whiny and self-centered she felt for a long while. Watching poor Liam, who just wanted to do his job mind you, try to deal with her made me want to hug him and pinch her. The good news is, that she gets a ton better!

In fact, as Isabeau became Iliana, and the world around her new life started to unfold, I fell deeply for this book. I loved the idea of a whole squad who deals with the predetermined death of us all. I watched as Iliana bloomed, became a whole new person, and really started to realize how important she was. Her fierce attitude became a boon, and her stubbornness became the perfect way to unearth the truth behind everything going on. I liked her a lot, and it made me so happy.

There's a lot to love about this story. The lore behind Iliana's new life is rich and, for the most part, eventually very well explained. Even the characters who are not in the limelight most of the time are fleshed out, and feel like someone you'd want to spend time with. The reason that this book lost a little of my love, and ended up at a three star rating, was simply that all of what I mentioned above took a lot longer than I would have liked. This book moves slowly. At times, it feels like Iliana's brain is just looping and looping with the same thoughts. The amount of time that it took Gideon to finally explain things to her didn't feel natural, but more convenient. A way to keep the reader going through all of the romance parts.

Oh, and the romance. While I definitely loved the heat between Gideon and Iliana, it was just so drawn out. I felt like after a while it lost its ability to make me smile, and started to feel like a chore instead. Some of the interactions between the two of them felt so forced. With Gideon always being hard to discern, and Iliana wondering how on Earth she was going to survive without him. If that type of scene had been cut by about half, it would have made a bigger impact on me. I loved their forbidden love, but I didn't want that to be all I was reading about.

This book ends on a rather harsh cliffhanger, which makes me hopeful that there might be more. One can hope! I want to see further beyond the veil.

This is one of those books where you read the blurb and you think...hmmmm...it sounds good, but is it a top of the TBR list good? Well, it is, and it should be moved to the top of your list - you don't want to miss out on any of this book. The author does an amazing job with spinning a unique take on death, the reaper, and the events that surround it...it is full of surprises, it is unpredictable and it is a book that will keep you up long past your bedtime.

This is the first book in the series, and I am already anxiously awaiting the next one! I need to know what happens, I want more! I want to spend time with these characters and their world. It is a fast paced read that will have the reader zooming through it so quickly the first time that you will need to go back and read it again to see what you might have missed. It is one of those books that you want to finish to see what happens, but at the same time you don't want it to end.

Do yourself a favor and grab this book and move it to the top of your TBR list - it will only benefit you in the long run!! A must read and an amazing read!

First of all, thank you SO much The Parliament House Press for sending me a free e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest review! All opinions are my own!

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟/5 stars

OKAY! So this is one of those books where the blurb sounds AMAZING yet the novel itself doesn't entirely live up to all of your hopes and expectations, sadly.

Nine While Nine is about a young woman, Isabeau Finne, who finds her world utterly turned upside down and inside out when she winds up dead at her own birthday party. If that wasn't bad enough, she ends up meeting Death's right hand man and later finds out that she is expected to work for the King of Death, himself. She has a new name, finds out she might not have been human in the first place, and is now expected to work side by side with Death. I don't really feel the need to go more in depth with this one because this pretty much sums the story up!

While I really thought the content was amazing and the originality of the plot and storyline had me sold, there were a couple of things that REALLY prevented me from fully enjoying this book and thus giving it the three-star rating I gave it.

First of all, there are all these crazy words used to name the workers within Death's inner circle that I couldn't pronounce or even remember. This made it harder once I got through the first couple chapters because I had to keep referencing the first chapters to remember what these words actually meant.  It makes it very hard to keep up with the flow of the book in then end. I guess the words were Gaelic, which is a neat idea! Yet very confusing for me.

Next, there was too much fluff added between the main points of the storyline for me. Like I said, the premise was GREAT! There was simply too much going on in between for me to really get hooked and invested in this world.

Lastly, the love triangle trope used throughout this book made it feel all too familiar as a YA fantasy book. I didn't entirely enjoy that aspect.

All in all, the concept was great I just felt that there could have been fewer Gaelic terms used to identify things, and less fluff added between the key points of the story. That would have made for a much more enjoyable read and easier to understand!

Thank you so much Parliament House Press for my free e-arc in exchange for my honest review!

A new and interesting take on the fae, or in this case Siòg, folk. Turns mythology on its head and weaves an enticing tale of power, hatred, change, war and magic.

Isabeau (a favourite name, by the way) is attending her thirtieth birthday party when she unexpectedly dies. However, her death is only really the beginning of this story. In truth, she has been recruited into the Na Teagmhasach Bháis (The Contingency of Death). She has been called to bcome a Coimhdeacht (an escort or usher of Mhesen (spirits/souls) to the otherworld). She has been recruited into the ranks of the Siòg, as a "grim reaper", under the tutelage of Liam and the orders of Gideon (hubba hubba). Gideon is known as Cerberus, as he keeps watch over all and is the protector of his group of death dealers.

There are immediate sparks between Isabeau (now Iliana in her new 'life') and Gideon, although she hides behind anger and he hides behind indifference and discipline.

A little slow paced at the beginning and there was quite a lot of world building and history to get through, but it was such a fascinating and complex world created for this novel. The characters were fraught with emotion, drive, instability and depth. Liam especially showed growth and change throughout, half way through I hated his character, but he became more worthy as the novel went on.

Isabeau was understandably confused and angry throughout her transition of losing her life and all of her friends, travelling to a new city and having to cope with taking the souls of other humans. It was easy to sympathize with the emotional roller coaster she experienced throughout the novel. Gideon was intense and melodramatic. At first, he was the perfect foil for Isabeau's new life, but transitioned easily into the dark, mysterious and sumptuous object of desire. They seem to have a connection they cannot place, a past together? Dreams shared? I did find the back and forth a tad tedious and over-written at times, but often I could feel the intense chemistry between these two characters rolling off the page in waves.

This is a story that leaves the reader with more questions than answers, befuddled and vexxed. Wanting desperately for there to be more. It was tantalizingly intense and unforgettable. A novel for those interested in old tales, in things that go bump in the night, for the dealers of death and the magic of other realms. There is a lot to chew and even more to ponder. I am excited for the next installment.

P.S. This novel includes a smart** cat and I love that so much!

Whoa...this book is intense. Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. There is so much magic happening in this book. It is a great book to read in October, or in preparation for Halloween. The entire book takes place in the month of October where Isabeau has everything going for her, until she meets death. Then, things get interesting. She spends the book trying to understand what she is, why she is what she is, and what will happen next. This book is on my printed copy wish list.

Here are the things I enjoyed:
1. It is magical. Being the first book of the series, I was confused most of the book, but I shared the confusion with the main character, so I felt like I was coming to understand what was happening with her.
2. The editing and proofreading was on point. Being someone who struggles with "reading past the mistakes," it was nice to read a book that had very few mistakes overall.
3. The plot line is pretty unique. I have read my fair share of fantasy/urban fantasy books, but Stasia takes a whole new angle on it.
4. The writing style was engaging. The main character went from dream state to waking state seamlessly and unless the main character is unsure, you know where Isabeau is in each instance.
5. The main character's name...Isabeau...it is such a beautiful name and it makes my heart smile.
6. The ending was an epic cliffhanger. The book just calmly, easily, came to "Not The End" and it was beautiful.

Here's what could have been better:
1. The mythical language was a challenge. Reading this on my Kindle made it hard for me to flip back and forth from the glossary to where I was. This wouldn't have been an issue however, if I had a physical copy of the book.
2. There were times when I didn't know how much time elapsed between one scene and the next which caused a little confusion.
3. I would have LOVED to see some of different POVs. Maybe in a future book?? *fingers crossed*

All in all, I can't wait to read the next installment. So Stasia Morineaux please hurry up with the next book.

This was a really enjoyable read. I loved the look into the inner workings of death and the world hidden in our own. The main characters were fleshed out and Isabeau was a relatable and realistic character. I could not put his book down. Some moments felt like a forbidden guilty pleasure while others astounded me with their incredible imaginativeness. I loved the dark romance brewing between Isabeau and Gideon and I literally wanted to throw the book (in a good way) during certain scenes. I must have yelled "JUST KISS ALREADY" a thousand times. This is a fantasy adventure like no other.

I wasn't a big fan of the world building and it could have been done better. Morineaux used a lot of Gaelic words and made up her own words that made it difficult for me to understand the roles of various people. I don't want to constantly flip to the glossary when the characters are talking, and not being a native English speaker makes it more difficult to pronounce the words.

There was also too much waffle and not enough action. I felt like certain conversations were replayed over and over again, and Isabeau never really got the answers she wanted or needed. The book started off well, dragged in the middle, picked up again, and the dragged toward the end. The pacing was weird and I would have liked to see more diversity in the book.

This book. I didn't know what to expect when I picked this novel up, other than being escorted into something otherworldly, and boy I wasn't disappointed! Nine While Nine is a fantastic story about a young woman, Isabeau, who wakes up dead and realises that her entire life has changed. Unfortunately for her there is no rest period as she's thrust straight into a new life and new role, one which she's told very little about. Through it all she has to figure out where she stands in her new life, who the people around her are and what they mean, all while battling the feeling that still she doesn't quite fit.

Nine While Nine is a wonderfully written book that had me picking up constantly and reading for hours (this is the first book that's done this to me in a while now!) I love Isabeau and her strong character, Liam with his dark broody side and of course Gideon, the man who was always supposed to be there.

I felt so drawn into Isabeau and her world. We get to know her as a woman, find out what she likes and dislikes, and go the journey with her through the entire book. We see her highs and lows, experience what she does and understand her confusion. The lore of Nine While Nine is fantastically thought out, is very intricate and is explained really well (or as much as Gideon will allow anyway!)

I honestly couldn't put this book down and I cannot wait for the next one!

1.5 - 2-ish stars

I'm really disappointed because I feel like this book could've been so much better. The synopsis got me really intrigued and the first few pages were really interesting and got me hooked almost instantly. But then things started to get boring and extremely slow-paced, and I couldn't figure out what exactly the plot was.

I also had a hard time relating to the main character, Isabeau. I cut her some slack first because, after all, she did just die, so honestly maybe her reactions were just realistic. But she started getting on my nerves, like really? your life just turned upside down and you're thinking about how cute the guys are? And obviously I didn't feel the romance at all.

However, I still think the main idea of the book was new and really interesting, but it was just poorly executed.

Okay, when I was reading this book I thought it was a solid 3 star for me. But then I kept thinking and thinking about it so I bumped it up to 3.5!

I thought everything was really well done except for the explanation of what was going on. Like, I still don't know what happened to Isabeau or what she is, or how she got there. Still super confused. But I really like the story, world building, and characters! Except Liam, he was whiny.

My best tag line for this would be A retelling of the Grim Reaper mixed with Irish Folklore.

A fantastic fall read!

I need the next book! Like right now!

How can an author do such a thing to her readers? I've never asked for a broken heart.
Please people, read this book, I need to talk about it! An I'll try to calm myself.

I had the opportunity to read this book before its release day and I don't know if I regret this or not.
I mean, it is an amazing read. I love the atmosphere, (almost) all characters, the universe. Everything is so mythological in this book and this is what made me fall for it. I fell for the characters too but they're the ones who broke my heart and all my hopes so I don't know if I can't talk about them. But if I had to do it again I know I'll be happy to have my heart like that again because I spend such a great time with Isabeau, Gideon, Liam and all the others. They're so great and it feels like if I could spend a night with them, drinking and partying, we'd be the best friends ever. And it's just so great when characters make you feel that way.
Actually I have just one more thing to say (and I already did), I need the next book! And I need you to read this one!

I've never read anything quite like this and I believe I quite like this world. It could be very confusing at times and I still don't know everything, but I think that's what makes it interesting.
While Gideon is sexy and all, I was SO FRUSTRATED with him..... Especially at the end.... What is going on?!

***I received an arc of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review***

This book was definitely my cup of tea! A heroine who is in her thirties. So many books today feature twenty-something characters, so it was really refreshing to see someone closer to my own age featured in such a powerful and engrossing book.
The one thing I absolutely love in books is mythology. And boy did the author create a unique and interesting one. I felt myself drawn into the world. I love Fae lore and this unique twist was just pure golden!
Isabeau (love this name! Reminds me of one of my favorite movies, "Lady Hawk") was a great character and I loved seeing her growth as the story progressed. I connect with her and others an such an emotional level.
Gideon had me forgetting about all my other book boyfriends! And that is REALLY hard to do. He was such a complex man and yes, SEXY!! At least that's how I'm seeing him.
Now I just have to wait NOT so patiently for the next book in the series!
If you really want to spend some time relaxing and reading, I highly suggest you pick up this book immediately! You will not be disappointed.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and here it is:
The first thing that made me want to read this book was the book trailer (You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLCVB...) and when the author got in touch with me I was literally in hеaven. I had such big expectation for this book and it did not disappoint me.
When you are an avid reader there comes a time when you read some books and in about the third of the way in to the story you have a pretty good guess how it's going to end. Well from the start to finish I had no idea how this book was going to end. When I started reading it was really hard to put it down. The writing stile of Stasia Morineaux was so enchanting for me that there wasn't a time when I was bored or I wanted to skip ahead. The funniest thing for me is that when the mythology for this world was explained I find myself taking notes so I can be sure to not miss anything and I have never done that before. I had only one big problem with this book - It was too short. When I noticed i had only a few pages left I wanted to stop so I can never live this world created by Stasia Morineaux. Well I couldn't stop myself I needed to find out the ending.
Every time I get a copy from an author I'm a little bit afraid of what to do if I don't like their book, because I'll give my honest opinion anyway but I'll not good about it. I'm so happy I didn't have this problem with this book. You can say this is my favorite book read in 2018.
I can say to all of you that if you are sеаrching for something new and exciting this is the book for you.

I just finished reading Nine While Nine, and I loved it! From plot, setting and characters to conflict, drama and effortless humor, the author weaves a beautiful and rich tapestry of magical storytelling. I know I’m reading a great book when; I find myself thinking about the characters and situations when I’m not reading the book, My children go feral and free-range because I can’t stop reading, I forfeit sleep to read, and finally I consider rereading immediately after finishing the book. This book had it all for me and I can’t wait to read book 2 (and 3, and 4, and 5?).

I received an e-arc of this book by the publisher.

So, firstly I need to say that I’m kinda conflicted about this book. In the beginning it felt really descriptive, which bored me and made it hard for me to be truly engaged. In the first few chapters I actually thought that I might end up not really enjoying this book at all, which would have been a shame since the premise of this book sounded really great.

Then the first big thing happened in the book and it got me interested in the story. Sadly the writing stayed the same. Kinda flat and boring, albeit not bad per se. But I kept reading because I wanted to see where everything would lead. And I’m glad that I kept reading for the book had many appeals.
It has a really interesting magical or mystical aspect. The ways in which – let’s call it Death – operates is really fascinating and the fictional language and backstory that Morineaux invented are rather unique and interesting.

The book has certain tropes though that do remind me of another very well loved book, but I personally didn’t really mind, in the end authors are inspired by many different things.

Another part I wanted to write about is the romance. This is what truly ended me in the end. In a good way, mind you. From the beginning there were different possible love interest but for the most part I was pretty sure who she would gonna end up with. But, in the end it all took me by surprise. The book ended with a pretty big cliffhanger, romance- and story-wise. Which makes me all the more eager to read the next book (possibly as soon as possible).

Because against my initial fear, I did end up enjoying the book a lot. I felt like the book got really engaging during the last third, I enjoyed the writing more and I felt like the story progressed immensely. Which lead me to give the book 4 stars in the end. I’m still trying to figure a lot of things out, including Isabeau herself and more importantly for me the fricking love interest. Like I mean, if you have read the book, can we please talk about what happened in a few certain chapters. I need to vent.

Oh, and one thing I wanted to add. Host of Sepharim? Really? During a dinner scene? I mean that song is pretty epic, just not what I would choose to listen to during a friendly dinner. Just sayin’. But you know, whatever floats your boat.

This is a new author for me but one I will never forget! There are many books recently about death and reapers but this one has completely stood out. It is so different from the others in the best way possible. This book made me cry, smile and even angry at times which is hard to make me do as I do not get angry easily.

The prologue was a bit confusing for me as it seems to jump point of view a couple times but once I got to the first chapter it all started to make sense. The first couple chapters had me worried about the type of story that I was reading. I was truly unnerved about Isabeau's acceptance of some things and not others. However as the story continued, I was hooked! I had to know what was going to happen because Nine While Nine keeps you wondering and slightly confused throughout the book but in a way that grips you.

While I was reading, I wanted all of these things to happen and it seemed that in almost every chapter what I felt and wanted to happen changed because of how each character reacted. I remember as I was getting closer to the end by watching the percent finished on my kindle and completely DREADING it! I was enthralled and wanted the story to just continue forever. All of these characters were real to me and I wanted to know how their stories unfolded.

Then it ended.

I was literally crying because right before that the biggest thing I wanted the whole book happened. But like any great author there was a HUGE plot twist and a cliffhanger the size of the Grand Canyon!

My heart was in pieces. I honestly felt like I NEEDED the next book right then to fix it. So I am counting the days until I can get my hands on the next book in the series. I even messaged Stasia to see when I could get it. I told her how much she took me on an emotional roller coaster and how I enjoyed every step of it. Stasia is an amazing author but she also is a very sweet human so I HIGHLY recommend this book, the awesome publishing company who allowed me to read this for an honest review and, of course, the wonderful lady who wrote it!

No time to cry is a fitting title. This book is very fast paced, and by the end I wanted to know more.

The setting in which we have the heroine has me a bit perplexed. We start off with Isabelle the heroine whom is into the gothic scene. She loves life, is a free spirit, and surprisingly enough writes her own paranormal romance books. Right at the beginning she has a party, and dies from a poisonous drink. What she doesn’t know is that someone is there to take her “spirit” with them so to speak. Yes her spirit is still in human form, and this is where everything starts taking off on the crazy train for me.
The idea of what happens after is a good one, however I felt the language barrier and the definitions to be way over my head. I was overwhelmed, and extremely confused. The author is trying to set up a whole other world, and even though she has pages of definitions in the back explaining everything. It didn’t jive with me in the book. I was not even “into” it until half way through. I felt like I was drowning in confusion.
After wading my way through the words, the story started making more sense. I thought that the heroine’s “dream” state chapters were very well done. I do love angst, and the author never gave the heroine a minute to relax. I almost wished she would have given the heroine a little bit of a reprieve from everything to figure out why she died, what she is, and how she was going to deal with all of it. The heroine is never for sure of herself, and quite frankly I wasn’t sure of her either.
There are still tons of questions by the end of the book. I like that it ended on a huge cliffhanger, which alas leaves me wanting more, but I would really have liked to have known more about the heroine herself. I think that is what disappointed me the most.
With all this being said. I will be reading the second book as I think this author has great potential in what she is trying to convey to her audience.

And honestly, I'm blown away. From the first sample chapter Stasia sent me, I've been hooked, waiting anxiously for the ARC to arrive in my inbox, and then desperately trying to get out of my reading slump so I could read it.
Nine While Nine has everything I want in a good YA Fantasy, (and being Scottish, having wee references thrown in there doesn't hurt to sweeten the deal) from mythical lands to strange new powers and forbidden romance.
Isabeau is relatable in her actions and though processes, and is a generally likeable character. Stasia has avoided the pitfall of creating a Mary-Sue female lead, which is all too easy to do in fantasy.
This book is a fantastic first instalment in what I don't doubt will be a fantastic series- get your pre-order in, everyone, because this is definitely one you want for your shelves!

This is a new author to me but I’ve got to say one who I will remember. As of late there are very few paranormal/fantasy authors who have the ability to captivate me. I can count on one hand authors who have left an impression on me and I’m so excited to discover another.

However, I didn’t realise that this book would be left on a cliffhanger. There’s me, plodding along thinking ‘I’m so happy, let’s keep the story going.’ And it ends. I’d gotten to the end without realising.

Well as you can imagine I was so distraught. When a story such as this draws me in, I never want it to end. I’m sure you’re the same. These little gems are sometimes hard to find so when we do find a story that makes us sit up and take notice, we grab it with everything we have.

Now, even though I’m disappointed about the cliffhanger, it hasn’t deterred me from the story and I will quite happily pick up the next book. Actually I sound so blasé about that fact when in fact I will be on tenterhooks awaiting the next release.

This author has driven me in, parked me up and put a wheel clamp on me so that I don’t go anywhere.

I was intrigued by the plot, the story, the characters, even the language. For those unaware, the author has created her own language/names for the characters and even though it is a little confusing, there is a glossary at the end. Fitting for those who like to understand what they’re reading.

I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. I urge you paranormal/fantasy readers to give this a go. You won’t be disappointed. However I do have to point out that the main male character is mine. I licked him first. (Even if that’s not true, that’s what I’m claiming.)

This was a really good read for being free. Going into it I wasn't too sure but i really enjoyed this. I really don't get the title. The story started off at a nice pace.

The cover isn't awesome. But this is one of those cases "don't judge a book by its cover"

(Ahh and finally after 66% the story behind the title is revealed!)

I haven't read many books about reapers (they don't like to be called that.) So this is was different for me. The author even created new names for them...so it kept me guessing and wanting Liam to get Isabelle to the Gideon guy so I could get answers. I like how the Isabelle takes forever to get over what happened to her. Some authors just quickly get it over with. But Stasia done it perfectly. It's a traumatic experience for petes sake. You don't get over that in a snap.

Okay...toward the second half of the book she has her dreams. Possibly about her past life of something. This book has a lot of emotions and heartbreak. Gideon just drives me crazy.

This book just kept getting better and better. I loved it. The author had a bunch of hard to read words in this book. But rest assured this book has a glossary in the back that I just now found. Im going to recommend this book to everyone! It was just THAT GOOD! It's definitely worth more than the .99 cents!

This is one fantasy book I can’t get enough of! It sucked me in and the end left me wanting more.. especially more Gideon and Collum!!

When this book starts out, there is no long, boring world and character building chapters, which I really liked. It jumped right into Isabeau’s world being turned upside down. She must leave behind the life she finally started to get back in order, and jump into playing a major role as a “reaper/cull” But when they realize that Isabeau’s wasn’t the right person that was supposed to die that night, unanswered questions are all anyone has for her. Old diary entries and current dreams are the only things giving her onsite to what and/or who she really is. As her power starts to develope more and more, her and her new friends start to realize she is so much more than they though she was.

Of course you have to add in the romance. Towards the end of the book you finally see the side of Gideon you have been waiting for since the beginning! He finally opens up more about what he does know. But when he takes the word of someone jealous of what he has with Isabeau, everything comes crashing down on them both.

I have really enjoyed Isabeau’s journey so far. There are still so many unanswered questions running through my mind that hopefully some will be answered in book 2! Thank you for a great read Stasia!! 💓💓

I could not stop reading it. I started one evening and spent the next day reading the rest. I could not let it go! I just had to know what happened. It was wonderfully written, the language was beautiful. The scenery and the characters were so alive. I fell in love with the men. It was so suspenseful, there was so much unsaid, so it kept me on my toes, needing to read to find out more. I was really original, I loved the Celtic mythology, and was as confused as the character of the meaning of the words. It was hard to remember the strange words, and remember the meaning, but the main character had the same trouble.

I would really recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy. I loved it. I can't wait to read the next book!

This novel is romantic, magical, pleasantly spooky. I was reminded a bit of the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness but with more edge and instead of witch and vampire lore, there is some incredible and complex Fae mythos. I’m ready to visit Tiarnas and see what Isabeau gets up to with her powers … and of course with all the sexy gentlemen she meets in the next book in the series!!!

I enjoyed this tome from first time author Stasia Morineaux (ok, full disclosure: she's a friend of mine). It moved at a pretty fast pace despite my slow poke reading style. It did get a bit hard to follow at times with the language but quick references to the glossary in the back did the trick. I'm intrigued to find out what happens next to Isabelle/Illiana.

What a great read!! This book definitely ticked all the boxes for me. The characters are well developed and the reaper lore is fairly easy to follow. The storyline moves along fairly consistently, and I would love to see what happens with this series.

Did not finish.
Started reading but stopped in chapter five. Good looking people kissing each other (several others) a bit to quickly and being very taken in by how people look.
Felt a bit young although Isabeu apparently celebrated her 30th birthday.
