Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
The magical story of Disney's Beauty and the Beast captured in print ready for readers young and old to take a journey with Belle. Unfortunately, although the book is marketed at the book of the film it does not contain any stills from the new live-action film - whilst not essential it would have added a little something extra to the book.
Fairy tale as old as time, enchanted, charming and sparkling. After seeing the movie of Beauty & the Beast I found this beautiful book edition on Book Depository and yes, you are right, it is mine now. :) It is a fairy tale love classic for all time, indeed.
Beauty and the Beast is the best book ever. Especially since Belle is my favorite Disney character. Usually I do not like fiction books but this one is the best one I have read. I love that Belle loves to be different and doesn't let anyone bring her down. Nobody likes when Belle reads. But that should be different. That is what I really love about her.But then that all changes living in that town. Her dad goes missing. She goes and trys to find him. She finds him in the castle and she finds the beast. The Beast and her start to get along then they start to fall in love. I think that this story is reakky amazing especially since they first dont like each other and then they fall in love. To me it is romantic.
I know this is a novelization of a movie, but it still is quite good. Interesting to see how the parts of this story are worked together. Sorry that the author of the film and book of the Broadway musical as well as the lyricist are not given any credit although this is clearly based on their work. Odd use of some sophisticated vocabulary and some contemporary words and phrases. I'm doing research for a presentation on the story and its various iterations and this was very enjoyable.
Beauty and the Beast, Book of the film. It lived up to it's name and so much more! I really enjoyed the way this writer included little things from the animated film plus little details here and there that were not from either film but expanded on the story. I haven't read this story before - only watched it, and I loved the way that this was written and how you got inside the mind of most of the characters and saw how they saw a situation. It made me fall in love with this story all over again. Overall, a very good book that tells a tale as old as time in a new and fresh way.
I'm not like most people. I didn't suddenly become a "obsessed" just because of the live action remake. My obsession developed years ago. I know the entire movie word for word, I watch it at least twice a week and I know all the songs, so you could say I'm a die hard fan. And I enjoyed this book. Well, kinda. The story was amazing. The writing? Crap. It was like they picked a random person off the street and said "yo write this book" and that person was like "wut? I missed all me English classes bro" i think they could've done wayyyyyy better than this. But the four stars are for the story
Beautifully written, with a perfect insight into what the characters are feeling which we can't experience from the film. The tale has always been a great one, especially because of the important message, but this version makes it an extra special experience.
A tale as old as time...and a tale told so beautifully and with so much detail. The prince is hosting an elaborate ball at his luxurious castle one stormy night when an old hag shows up on his doorstep seeking shelter from the storm. The prince refuses the hags rose that she offered to the prince, she gives him one last chance to accept the rose and when he refuses again she reveals herself an enchantress, and as punishment for the princes hostile and rude behaviour she curses his castle and all the residents within it. The Prince turns into a beast, and all his maids and servants turn into furniture. If someone can learn to love the beast before the last petal falls off the enchanted rose the curse will be broken. Belle was a lovely character to read about, her love of books is very apparent, and she longs to be free of her small village and the small minded people who live there. I saw this movie in theatres and I loved it and bought the DVD. The book is exactly like the movie, in the book they obviously don’t break into dance and song like they do in the movie. A wonderful and very colourful read, I Thoroughly enjoyed all of the characters, especially Lumiere and FrouFrou the dog that was a piano bench. A beautiful classic read.
I loved the Walt Disney Beauty and the Beast it's an all time classic. This story took me by surprise of how much detail went into the story that doesn't show in the movie, it made sense why the Beast was cold hearted and selfish and Gaston a patronizing show off in the story. I really enjoyed the story, the characters especially Belle, Ms Pots, Lumiere and the Beast. Overall it's 4 stars for me because I really enjoyed it.
Absolutely LOVED this book. Beauty and the beast is my all time favourite disney movie and this did not disappoint. The characters were portrayed perfectly throughout the book and I couldn't put this book down from start to finished. Totally hooked!
I loved every moment of this book, just like I did with the movie, I have always loved beauty and the beast while growing up and now I had the chance to be apart of the book version, made me happy.
A delightful little book. I would put this in the same category as the classic books that are enjoyed by children and adults alike. Simple, uncomplicated fairytale.
I picked up this book because it was reduced to 99p (I know I’m a sucker for a bargain), I love the film and just wanted it on my shelves. However I realized once I got home that I didn’t really have any intentions of reading it, then The Reading Rush came along and I had a last minute TBR change and as this book is so short and I know the story so well I actually got around to reading this (shock horror!). I didn’t really know what to expect from this as I read the original Beauty and the Beast earlier in the year and am ashamed to say I didn’t love it as much as I thought (see my full review here) so I was a little apprehensive about going into this
If you didn’t already know last year Disney released a live action Beauty and The Beast, this is the book of that film. It is nothing alike the original book however everything that happens in the film happens in the book. Belle (beauty) rescues her father from a hideous beast and vows to take his place as a prisoner in the castle forever. However the castle is enchanted and everyone in it may rely on Belle to break the curse – or they are doomed to remain as they are for all time
So this book is so much better than the original (sorry), Disney have done an amazing job with both films (even though the animated original one will forever be my favourite) and this book definitely reflects that. I loved the descriptions and after watching the film it was nice to be able to picture it in my mind exactly as it happened in the film.
It definitely felt magical and certainly nothing was lost between the book and the film, I loved every part and could not get enough. I flew through it, I could hear the characters voices in my head and it felt like I was truly part of the story. This is a tale that I have grown up with, I’ve watched the film so many times and to now be able to read it but with the same plot as the film (the original book is quite different) was amazing.
I would say if you are a fan of the films (either one) then definitely pick this book up, it is so magical and you can read through the plot at your own pace which I think makes it so much more vivid but you also have the film imagery to fall back on. If you have never seen any of the films but are interested in enchanted castles etc. then I would definitely recommend this. It is really fast paced, incredibly magical and just an overall lovely story. Don’t be put off by the intended age, this book is perfect for any age, it can be enjoyed by all. Definitely pick it up!
The literary version of the live 2017 Disney film of the same name doesn’t fill in any blanks so much as give us the inner thoughts of the various characters. Lumiere doesn’t give Belle a sumptuous dinner simply because the servants are dying for someone to serve after so many years of inactivity. He naively hopes that the food will be so good that Belle won’t wish to leave. Of course, this is during the early days, when nobody knew what kind of girl Belle really is…
The novel gives us Belle’s increasing frustration and despair at finding anyone to talk to, of finding anyone who gets her--her dreams, her aspirations, her itching for travel, for intelligent conversation. When she attempts to teach a little girl to read, you guess it’s because Belle sees a kindred spirit—and perhaps someone to talk to, even if the child is years younger. Her absent-minded father Maurice is kind and indulgent. But he refuses to tell Belle important details about her own mother, adding to the woman’s sense of anguish.
So the book deepens the connection between the beauty and her monstrous captor, both seeking to understand the other. After initial hostilities wane and fade away, they learn to look beyond the exteriors and see what’s really important. The Beast’s initial dismissal of Belle because she’s the daughter of a thief yields to a reluctant understanding that Belle can’t be judged by another’s actions—and the Beast has been rightly judged for his.
This is a splendid novel, complete with gray-toned filigree decorations where the pages meet in the spine and elaborate decorations around the chapter headings. Moviegoers who cherish this particular Disney story may be surprised to find that its literary counterpart holds equal merit.
The book Beauty and the Beast by Disney is such an exciting suspenseful book. I love this book because it talks about a girl named Belle who lives in a small provincial town of Villeneuve. Belle is a very wise, courageous, and determined young girl. In the book her beloved father gets taken away by the Beast and Belle stops at nothing to try and get her father back. She arrives at this big castle and knows she has to face the beast to get her dad back. Everyone in her village tried their best to warn her about the Beast but she didn’t have a care in the world but to get her dad. Once she got to know the Beast she realized that he wasn't as bad as everyone was making him out to be. She got her father back and fell in love with the Beast. Meanwhile, a man named Gaston who wanted to marry Belle tried to kill the Beast in a sword fight but Gaston almost killed the Beast when Belle had watched the whole fight and saw that her true love was dying and gave him a kiss on the lips. The hideous Beast turned into a beautiful Prince. Belle and the prince lived Happily Ever After. I recommend this book to 5th-7th graders. This story shows how ugly things can be beautiful. How everybody has love in their heart.
I'm a big Disney fan and Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favourites. So when I saw there was a book of the live action I had to read it.
The book of the film is titled that because it is literally that. Because I've previously watched the film, I found myself seeing the film play out in my head as I read every word. Every time Lefou is mentioned or speaks, I cannot help but think of Josh Gad. Obviously some scenes are fleshed out more to give more depth information compared to the film (IE Belle's time at the castle which is usually a montage in song form), however I did not mind.
Usually film to book adaptation can be rubbish, however I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the live action to give it a read. 100% will reread and will be part of my book collection for a long time.
A lovely telling of the film. If you just want to read the film, then this is the book for you. If you wanted more details, more character thoughts, extras, then you'll be disappointed. I was hoping for added extras, so that's why it only has three stars. If you fancy a Beauty and the Beast story that gives more, there are other Disney options out there (and plenty of non Disney) I preferred Tale As Old As Time, which I read just before the remade film came out. Similar ideas, but tells it very differently. Read if you like the film, because that's what you're getting.
For those of you that don't know the story. Beauty and the Beast is a beautiful story of Belle - a book loving dreamer, who wants to live the adventures she reads about in her books, and the Beast who lives in an enchanted castle, grumpy and fearsome and won't let anyone in.
The book is well written and more, it includes parts and little bits that wasn't in the live action version. Beauty and the Beast is a tale of love in the truest form, it doesn't matter to Belle that he's a beast, she learns to love him for who he is. This book tells that story brilliantly.
This book was so enjoyable and I had a great time reading it! I put the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack on alongside it and I really enjoyed being immersed into this story! It was definitely a 4.5 star read.
This story is so nostalgic and my favourite fairytale. This book was beautifully written, very descriptive and easy to read. You could tell it was based from the film as everything was just so easy to visual. Belle was a beautiful character and all the objects in the castle too were funny and charming. A classic story that never stops sparking joy!
I really enjoyed this classic storyline, which was as expected after watching the movies and growing up listening to the story, however I don’t think this was the best piece of writing/literature as far as books go. This book would have been 5 stars for me if the writing had been better, as I feel like the storyline only makes up for so much considering it’s a book based on a film/other stories and fairytales.
I think it’s my most favorite Disney film ever (both animated and live-action) so it is quite a given that I gobble up every book 📖 about it, whether it’s a retelling, a twisted tale or even the book of the movie.
There’s something that fills my heart whenever this tale is involved that I cannot find while reading other books. It truly is a pleasure to read a tale as old as time 😊
You can never go wrong with the classic tale as old as time! This short Disney novel follows the story as it is told in the live film version. It was as entertaining to read as it was to see the film. Although I would have, like always, enjoyed if there was a little more back story given. Still a pleasant read.
Once again, the magic of Disney brings me joy. No matter how many times I pick up this book, I will forever be hooked and unable to put it down. The language and use of storytelling is beyond beautiful as well as the well articulated plot and personalities of the characters that match both the live version and original animated version of Beauty and the Beast. Definitely 100% worth it.
This is one of the most best books that I read that was made into a movie and I loved it and it's one of the best live action films ever made by the Walt Disney Company. And some time in the future I will read it many times over.
