Bought my first skillet about two months ago.... when I bought it this cookbook was recommended to me.. I didn't buy it right away cause I wasn't sure how much i would actually be using my skillet. However, after consistently using my skillet I purchased this cookbook - SO affordable. and I am SO glad I did. Not only is it a great cook book filled with lots of variety but the author go into great detail on the history behind a skillet, purchasing a skillet, caring for a skillet etc. Also, recipes are not limited to just a skillet in pan form. I was so impressed with this book I immediately purchased a skillet and this cookbook for my friend as a wedding gift.

The Southern Cast Iron Cookbook is a wonderful celebration of Southern comfort food and the timeless tradition of cooking in cast iron. The recipes feel warm, inviting, and perfect for sharing around the family table. I especially enjoyed how the cookbook brings together familiar Southern favorites with practical ideas that make cast-iron cooking feel approachable and rewarding.

The recipes are hearty, flavorful, and satisfying, with the kind of comforting dishes that make you want to gather everyone together for a relaxed homemade meal. The emphasis on family-style cooking gives the book a welcoming, nostalgic quality without making the recipes feel complicated.

I also appreciate the versatility of cast iron throughout the cookbook. Whether you're preparing a savory main dish, a comforting side, or something sweet, the recipes show how useful a well-seasoned skillet can be. The instructions are easy to follow, making this a great choice for both experienced home cooks and anyone looking to get more use from their cast-iron cookware.

Overall, this is a charming cookbook filled with delicious inspiration, Southern warmth, and recipes made for enjoying and sharing. A fantastic addition to any home cook's collection!

Recipes look doable with basic ingredients that you would find in a local grocery store. Nice size book with good layout. 100 recipes with personalized notes for each one. There are buying tips, Do’s and Don’ts, how to season your skillet, and basic information. Going through this cookbook, you get the feeling that the author does indeed love and uses her cast iron skillets.
Reviewer side note: One of the benefits of cast iron is that they are built to last and outlast many owners (when treated well). I have my great-grandmothers skillet and also my grandmothers. One of my constant recipes I use the skillet for is New Year’s Day dinner for Yorkshire Pudding which is a family heirloom recipe. I don’t use the skillets as often as I should and with this book I can see me using them more.

Southern hospitality meets cast iron durability in this wonderful collection. The recipes focus on soul-warming comfort foods like cornbread, fried chicken, and biscuit shortcakes, all optimized for skillet cooking. I appreciated the emphasis on sharing—many recipes are sized for gatherings, reinforcing the community aspect of Southern dining. The instructions are forgiving and encouraging, perfect for novice cooks learning to handle heavy iron. It tastes like home, no matter where you live.

Like a trip home

This transplanted North Carolinian read this book like a novel. Imagine finding a book which contains many of the recipes you fondly remember from childhood and tweaked to make them better. If you hail from NC or As don't pass up this book.

Variety ~

A plethora of recipes, some I’ve never heard of with some of the recipes I’m not interested in trying, and some I was wanting to try. I was hoping for more basic recipes.

Mmm, cast iron cooking.

Good recipes! I’ve tried a few, and most are easily made, with some creative twists. It makes me want to purchase more cast iron, to be honest.

I have a few different cast iron cookbooks but The Southern Cast Iron Cookbook is one of my favorites. Coming from the author's home state of North Carolina, I definitely relate to this style and culture of cooking. Although I have basic knowledge of cast iron and care of it, I was able to learn a few new things, like the fact that I was not aware that they add iron to your meal which is nice for people who suffer from anemia like myself. I also enjoyed the section on vintage which discusses logos, markings, and what they mean. The recipes are diverse spanning from lemon-rosemary chicken to Peanut Butter Brownie and truely showcase the beauty of southern comfort food.

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.
