Love Across the Pond
Edward Archer walks right into the den of lioness Charity Stonewright when he sails across the pond to South Carolina to resolve a property dispute for his cousin, the Duchess of Peckham. I liked this romantic mystery set in South Carolina where Edward Archer has come to see what is going on in a house that is supposed to be owned by his cousin, the Duchess of Peckham. He meets Charity Stonewright, and there is an instant attraction. Over the course of his stay, he discovers . I thought the story was good and enjoyed it.

This was a free kindle read. It was a fairly good storyline with my major issue being that occationally I didn't get a good feel of time passage. I kept questioning how long it had been between some scenes and there were a number of times I was wondering if something could have happened already. Some of the secondary characters could have been developed better and it seemed like the ending was rushed.
This was a clean historical that did a good job of feeling like it's time period. I did like the overall plot and mystery as well as the characters in this book. The author's writing voice was a good fit and I would read more from her.

Actually 3.5 rating. Good quick romance with a little mystery twists. Set in Charleston SC in early 1800s.

First response: He's just trying to help out his cousin with a legal matter. She's just trying to hang onto her home and survive. He's English. She's American. Can they set aside their differences and find their similarities long enough to find the treasure and love? Full review coming up on my blog.
Edward Archer isn't a barrister, but he does know English law. His cousin, the Duchess of Peckham, the former Charlotte Haywood, has some property in Charleston, S.C. with a disputed title. Her American lawyer, Mr. Tarte, doesn't seem to be in any hurry to settle the matter, so the duchess asks Edward to go to Charleston and resolve the issue once and for all. He sails for America with his sister, Lady Hildegard, a typical sheltered young lady of her day.
If this ran true to romantic formula, the rich Englishman would find a lovely, but penniless American girl with no claim to the house, whom the criminal American lawyer has been threatening. He would turn the lawyer over to the authorities, fall in love with and marry the girl, and take her back to England. In the meantime, his sister would have met a perfectly acceptable rich young man to fall in love with and marry in America. They would move into the Duchess' old home and raise several children of their own for the next generation's stories. But, I liked Ms. Corwin's idea even better! It was far more exciting and I hadn't read it before. A refreshingly new historical plot!
Edward and Charity (our lovely, young, American girl) were well written. You got to know them well enough to understand them and what was going to set them off (anything the other one did or said). The secondary characters weren't quite so well defined. Lady Hildegard was perhaps better done than the rest because of the role she plays at the end, but still not fully fleshed out. This did serve to keep you focused on the main combatants and their attempts to outwit each other and survive the twists and turns as the plot winds up to its crisis. And I couldn't tell until the very end which one was going to give in.
I recommend this book for those of you who like your traditional historical romances with feisty heroines and handsome heroes. This was a BookBub acquisition via Amazon. My honest review is given without any compensation. All opinions are fully my own.

Likes and dislikes.
I liked most of the characters. The "cousin" could have been more fully introduced, and the little sister was portrayed as something of an air-head, making her elopement seem rushed.

When the duchess of Peckham asks her cousin Edward Archer, an aspiring attorney, to travel to from London, England to Charleston, South Carolina to investigate an intruder living in her childhood home, he is surprised to find his younger sister Lady Hildegard is going with him for the adventure. Having sent several notes ahead to prepare for their arrival, they arrive in Charleston on a miserable stormy night, find the home and try to gain entrance but find Ms. Charity Stonewright anxious to keep them outside and on their way to an inn. Once they force their way inside, they find the home in disrepair with no servants and few furnishings. Ms. Stonewright is wearing a dress repaired many times and there is practically no food in the house. Edward finally convinces Ms. Stonewright that they are staying but in the middle of the night, he awakens to hear horrible screams and when he rushes into the hallway, he finds Ms. Stonewright there, terrified as well. The following morning, Edward Archer meets with Mr. Tarte, the duchesses lawyer, hires a cook and two servants as well as a ladies companion to meet the requirements of propriety where he and the single ladies are concerned. He asks Hildie to accompany Ms. Stonewright to market to fill the pantry while he begins working on the mystery of the true ownership of Oldwood/Haywood Manor. This well written novel has the perfect blend of mystery and romance and well developed, fascinating characters.

Okay, so Edward is in town a few days, he might have thought Charity was pretty, once, thought to himself that he would see to it she was never left homeless, and suddenly he was thinking how much he loves her. What? I’m wondering where the hell that came from. That didn’t make a bit of sense.
It was a decent story about who owned the house in Charleston, Charity or the duchess, who sent Edward to look into it. And while he was looking around the big house he found a hidden door in the cellar and found human remains, that they decided had been there at least 25 years.
No sex and maybe one kiss.
As to the narration: This was mostly full of Americans and should have been read by an American, even the duchess in England was American BUT Ruth Urquhart read it and she cannot do an American accent, not a man or a woman.

LOve , mystery and history-- what could be a better combination in a story about England and the American Old South? To solve the ownership of an old mansion in the deep south a man is sent over the pond (he's a lawyer) by his aunt the "Duchess" to find out what happened to the estate and who was claiming it was hers. Between, a mysterious treasure, escaped slaves and a beautiful young woman living in the house there is a big mystery to be solved-- but none of the answers make a lick of sense. The hero? a rather sad looking cat with a torn ear that adopts the lawyer! Enjoy!

Edward is asked by his cousin to go to America and prove that the house she lived in as a girl is really her’s. There is someone already living in the house who says it’s her house. Charity had never lived in the house but her father and grandfather and generations before them had. Her father told her on his death bed to go back and find the family fortune which has been lost for three generations. When these two meet the arguments begin. She is determined to stay and he is determined to prove she must leave. It is an enjoyable book.

More than Just a Romance Novel
While romantic interest is a factor, the weaving together of this intriguing mystery of true ownership of property, lost gold, and then the solving of a murder was magnificently crafted by Amy Corwin. One can not help but become involved in trying to figure out the truth. Someone should make this into a movie! Listening Hallmark Mystery Channel??

Funny and Captivating
Have now read two in this series the first and last . Love. a spirited heroine with insecurities. Good plot twists with believable characters. Leaves one wanting another follow-up on this. Downloaded #1 in January - just read this past week - Saw this one offered. Had to read right t away. Thanks for the journey!

A Wonderful HEA
Amy is so clever with her plots and so talented in bringing her characters to life such that you feel you know them and would recognize them if you saw them. She packs so much into her stories, highs and lows, twists and turns and of course...romance, sweet, clean but passionate romance. I don't want the Archer series to end.

Loved the book on Charity and Edward! Edward was asked to go to America to help with a legal issue for the Duchess. Charity knows her home was never sold and she refuses to leave. Edward knows there is a mystery here and with the help of Charity they are going to solve it. A great read with a beautiful ending!

I really enjoyed the the story because it had different thoughts than the usual repetitive ones from other historical books I've read. I love the mystery and it and the search for finding out the truth. The only thing I didn't like is the amount of doubt Miss Stoneridge gives out. She feels like she has problems with men in the past but that part is vague. Still really good!

Delightful read
Enjoyed reading the book. There were some interesting twist and turns in the story. From discovery of a body hidden for years, underground slave train routes, hidden treasure and two romances.

Great series
I enjoy this series very much. Little mysteries tied up with romance. The characters have personalities that the author could develop deeper but then the book would be more than a three hour read. Still I would have liked more of a background on all of them.

This was a very enjoyable love story that also dealt with several social issues of the time. I think anyone would enjoy reading this novel and would be quite suitable for young readers.

Good book.
I liked the romance and the drama of the enfolding mystery. The story kept you interested with its twists and turns. I would recommend this author and book to my friends and family.

Intriguing
I love a book that can keep me guessing. While this one still had some aspects that were fairly predictable, there were also many that were not. It was those unpredictable aspects that kept me interested and I couldn't put the book down.

Great mystery and romance
What a gripping, edge of the seat story. I could not put it down until I had read it through. Definitely a story with great characters, believable story line and well edited. The characters were so normal it made them like friends. Very good book

Great Book
This was a great book. There is a mystery, romance, heroes, and villains. Most of which is answered at the very end. I really enjoyed it.

This one was a little too much going on and seemed like the author was putting everything except the kitchen sink. I liked the other stories more in this series.

Different story line
Sweet, romantic and smart story line. Not a boilerplate mystery. Twists and turns at every level. Enjoyable from begining to end.

This was great because it had a little bit of everything! Romance, murder mystery, history. Nice, clean, interesting book. I'm going to check out this author's other books.
