Boruto: Naruto Next Generations #1

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Vol. 1: Uzumaki Boruto!!

Rate this book

Years have passed since Naruto and Sasuke teamed up to defeat Kaguya, the progenitor of chakra and the greatest threat the ninja world has ever faced. Times are now peaceful and the new generation of shinobi has not experienced the same hardships as its parents. Perhaps that is why Boruto would rather play video games than train. However, one passion does burn deep in this ninja boy’s heart, and that is the desire to defeat his father!

This is a good start to the Boruto series. It helps being a Naruto fan to understand the Boruto universe but that doesn't take away that it's a good story and introduction to a new hero.

Boruto is years later when everyone has kids. THe storyline is basically the same. Except this time Naruto's kid doesn't want to be Hokage, and Sasuke's kid does. The character's kids look and act similar to their parents. Evil is brewing behind the scenes. Why did I borrow this? Not sure. I didn't even even finish Naruto but this didn't make me want to go back. Art is pretty solid though.

Finally picked this up after avoiding it since NARUTO ended. I’m intrigued by the characters and the plot but this volume felt just a little bit too fast - I might be biased cause the naruto chunin exams were my fave arc EVER and there were SO many chapters and volumes and episodes getting ready for them, introducing everyone and then the actual exams and this one is going very VERY fast compared to them. But I’ll see how it goes in the upcoming volumes

Haven't read manga in a while but after watching the first episode of the anime I could not help but pick this volum up. I wasn't disappointed. Personally, I think that the story has a great potential of becoming something amazing. I cannot wait to see the continuation.

I’d forgotten everything since I read this the first time, but I bought the rest of the volumes currently out a couple months back and decided to finally get around to reading them. Really enjoyed this a lot! I like the Boruto and Naruto relationship, and Sasuke’s growth seems really interesting. I also really like Mitsuki’s character and the backup story in this volume about him was really cool. Orochimaru was always one of my favorite characters, so anything related to him is right up my alley, I especially like how genderfluid it seems he’s become lol

Another great start to a new era of Naruto, this time focusing on his son, Boruto doesn't get attention from his dad and so detests him and thats why goes around making trouble but is skilled but one day when Sasuke comes in, he attacks him and after seeing him evade asks him to be his teacher and he does and he trains him after he masters rasengan, and that just shows his power. Also he gets some ninja tool to use in the exam, so there is some subplot there when he uses it. Meanwhile there is a story of his friend Mitsuki, who seems to have some serpent spirit and connected to Orochimaru. I like how this volume has started, there is so much mystery already and a character who might not come as likable, but having seen the movie it will become so much better from here on!

Personally, I'm quite enjoying Boruto on the whole. This first volume collects the portion of his story that is animated in film and tv, but I still found it fun to revisit, particularly because I see more of some beloved secondary characters. I also found the last story included here very illuminating!

I can't believe I hadn't written a review for this book yet.

For someone who have only lightly gotten into the world of Naruto and read through the first 15-plus volumes in my teenage years.

Although I am not a fan of the MC being one of those "My parents are so famous so I have to be an emo over this" cliche (Harry Potter, anyone?) but so far I think Boruto as a character balances himself between angst over his famous and important father and the story of how he builds relationships with the other characters.

I also like Sarada's backstory and her doubts about her parents, although this backstory is a bit on the cliche side as well, but I think it's mostly okay.

Serie in lettura per la All about comics challenge 2018

Granted, I've been watching the Animes before reading the manga, which is kinda backward for me, but that's okay.

Hell, when I started reading these, I was kinda surprised because I didn't mind all the mixed episodes adding extra bits to the characterizations.

So, all in all, the manga jumps right in and after a short introduction and a reintroduction of older Naruto and older Sasuke, we've got the Chunin exams.

It's definitely telling us that the story is all about Boruto, but I, like a lot of the fans, keep our eyes peeled for the old kids all grown up. I'm sure.

I'm not the only one who hates Boruto right? He's an overpowered bratty kid who has none of Naruto's better qualities. Are we supposed to hate him? Is that the goal?

After Naruto was over I heard many different opinions for Boruto. At that time I have not finished the anime of Naruto – and I was determinted to finish it first then give Boruto a chance. No one I knew gave good opinions of Boruto – I wanted to see it for myself. I finished the 1st volume and I have to say I am intrigued. Most of the new generations are similar to their parents, but that is not always a bad thing – if they have a treat that makes them stand out. Like for example Boruto does not want to become a Hokage, but Sarada does which is kind of interesting. For now I am interested to see what happens next – and mostly what happens with Naruto and Hinata – since they are my favorite characters of the series. I will give this review a second go, after I have finished all volumes which are released to this day – so I look forward to see if my opinion changes with the duration of the series. For now It is a decent continuation of the story – it is not better than Naruto, but it doesn't have to be.

I think I read this as scanlations when it first came out in Japan some years ago, but it was nice to read as a complete volume even if I question some of their translation choices and dislike the lack of explanatory notes. The art is similar to Kishimoto’s Naruto stuff, but a bit more babyish for some reason which annoyed me more in the scans than it does here, maybe there was some distortion in the uploads. The story really just jumps into things with the chunin exams, I’m glad the anime decided to build things up a bit more with getting to know the characters and changed world. I liked the Mitsuki story at the end of the volume, though it came out of nowhere in the middle of the chunin exam story. I hope the current episodes in the anime will explain more about his origins because he’s an interesting character. Overall it’s fun to see the future of Naruto’s world, how people grew up and the families they made. I look forward to reading more and while I like the anime more than this, I’m happy for whatever stories in this ninja world I can get.

4/5 Stars (%74/100)

Boruto, if not obvious from its title, is the son of Naruto. The story revolves around Boruto and his friends at the new Konoha. The world is in peace and the new generation takes over from Naruto's generation. Naruto is the Hokage and Boruto is not too happy about it.

I've grown fond of Boruto (both as a character and manga) even though I was hesitant at first. Naruto holds a very special place in my heart and at first, Boruto did not meet my expectations. However, in the last couple of chapters of the manga, I realized I have to look at Boruto as something different. I obviously suggest you to finish Naruto first but even if you don't I don't think you'll have too many problems.

Yep, here for this. I have no idea how they'll up the stakes after Naruto basically beat up the God of Ninjas in his series, but the relationships between the characters here are super-interesting, and I'm totally into adult versions of all our favourite characters, and slowly finding out how they and the Ninja World has changed since the end of Naruto. Plus the art looks basically identical to the previous Naruto series (which makes sense, since the artist was an assistant on Naruto, so y'know).

The bonus chapter about Mitsuki was especially good, and I can see him being a character to watch.

I've been avoiding this because I am so afraid to get let down; I loved Naruto so much! That being said, I think the series is off to a great start. So far volume 1 contains part of the Boruto movie, and while I thought it was great--I am excited to see some new content!

The Good: Introduction of new characters and the ties to characters from Naruto, dialogue, pacing and art!

The Rough: This is more of a personal thing, but I don’t know if I liked how different the Naruto characters looked in this series (I didn’t like Sasuke’s the most) vs how they looked at the end of Naruto before the time skip to Boruto timeline. I’m sure it’ll just grow on me.

Will I Continue Reading the Series?: Yes! Even just the first volume got me hooked so I’m interested to read more!
