Wildcats #2

Blind Tiger

Rate this book
2nd book in the wildcats series
Robyn Sheffield wants her life back. As the only female stray in the US, she's had to deal with bloodlust, flashbacks, a lack of impulse control (which might not have anything to do with being a shifter), and weeks under house arrest for crimes she never meant to commit. But when she overhears the territorial council plotting to marry her off to an eligible tom? It's time for this chick to fly the coop. Titus Alexander wants recognition. He’s spent the past year carving his territory out of the Mississippi free zone, forming a community for strays exiled and forgotten by the US Prides. As the first stray Alpha, he’s sworn to bring the toms under his authority the rights, support, and respect that official confirmation from the council will bring. But then the council’s precious female stray sneaks into the free zone in the back of his car and demands sanctuary. The council gives Titus a choice: send Robyn back and have his Pride acknowledged, or prepare for war. Citizenship for his men is within his grasp. So why is it so hard for him to let one rebellious tabby go?

Hey, guys, I just wanted to pop in and say that BLIND TIGER is OUT! This is book two in the Wildcats series (a PNR spinoff of the Shifters series), so if you haven't read book one, LION'S SHARE, feel free to check that out, as well as "Hunt," the novella that bridges the two series.

It's been great to dive back into the Shifters world and introduce everyone to these new characters, as well as show you all what Faythe and friends have been up to since the end of the original series, and as the first book written from a stray's perspective, BLIND TIGER was a particular challenge. But I'm having fun exploring this new corner of the world I created more than ten years ago, and I hope you guys are too!

FYI, BLIND TIGER is 90,000 words long and will be 356 pages in trade paperback format, which is coming very soon!

The Shifters series is one of my favorite, but this spinoff is in my opinion not as good. I didn't feel like the story was long enough for me to connect to the characters. However I did like their personality a lot. It was fun seeing what Faythe and Marc were up to, I really missed them.

I usually love all the books Rachel writes, but this one... this one is not one of them. I can't stand Robyn. She is whiny and asinine. I get it. She comes from a hard place with what happened to her. But instead of full filling her deal with the Council, or defending her rights to them, she decides to escape and to put an entire Pride in danger. She didn't know better. Ok. I'll get it. But then she does. And still doesn't care. For the sake of thr book she is offered a deal tbat she takes (no spoilers) but she continues being a bitch of a character. For me, no redeeming qualities.
Then we got Fault n. 2: the insta-love. Forced and just there because she has to love an Alpha and an Alpha her. Really? I don't feel it. He's hot she's hot... so what? So are all the enforcers and she is not attracted. Why this one? That is sth she keeps asking herself and me alongside her. Why? I guess it was convenient for the book.
Related to it, Fault n. 3. Titus, the Alpha. Supposed to care for his strays above anything else, gets his panties... er boxers... on a twist over this female... why? Who knows! She stomaways on his car, rubs herself on his clothes to camouflage her scent and he is done. Why? Convenient for the book again, I guess. Again, not feeling the atraction or anything with this two.
And the plot... slow and dull and the real one takes ages to arrive... until that moment all is full of whinning from Robyn and what-to-dos from the Alpha that loses all Alphiness when she gets near. O bore!

Towards the end, when the principal plot gets clear and we get to ran after the stray infecting people (I am keeping it as spoiler free as I can) the book picks up its pace and gets better. Its a pity all the book wasn't like the last third!

I'm a huge fan of Rachel Vincent's Shifters series and I can't even tell you how much I'm enjoying being back in that world seeing glimpses of characters we already know and love while at the same time getting to know a whole new pride of werecats.

Blind Tiger picks up Robyn's story a couple of months after the ending of Lion's Share, her secret is out and she's been placed under house arrest as punishment for killing the human hunters who were tracking her and Abby. She's supposed to be learning how to control her new cat instincts and she's also undergoing contestant medical tests as they try to figure out how she was able to survive to become the first female stray in America. Robyn knows she agreed to her punishment (it was that or have her claws cut off and her teeth removed!) but she's so tired of being trapped inside and constantly monitored whatever she's doing. The last straw is when she hears several of the Alphas discussing which of their sons should get the chance to be her husband, she wants to go back to school not get married and start popping out little shifter babies.

Titus has spent years trying to turn the strays from the Mississippi free zone into a genuine Pride and he takes his Alpha responsibilities very seriously. He has been working alongside Jace, Abby, Faythe and Marc to get the Alpha Council to recognise them as an official Pride so that his men will have the same rights and opportunities as all the other werecats but a lot of the Council are old and stuck in their ways and it won't be easy to get them to accept a stray Alpha. When Robyn escapes from her house arrest by sneaking into his car she makes his goals even less achievable. Robyn begs him for protection, something he has promised to all strays in his territory, but if he doesn't return her then the council won't just refuse to acknowledge his Pride, they'll also go into full out war to get her back.

This was another great instalment in the Wildcats series, I loved seeing how Jace and Abby are getting along and I really enjoyed getting to know Titus and some of his enforcers. So many great characters and I really hope we're going to get stories for all of them eventually (even though that could be difficult considering the severe lack of tabbies in this world!). Robyn has been through a lot since she was turned and it was no surprise that she was rebelling against the way the Council were treating her, the old guard are so traditional that it would drive me insane being under their control and this is totally outside of Robyn's comfort zone. Titus is stuck between a rock and a hard place, by helping Robyn he would be risking everything he's worked so hard for and the lives of the rest of the strays under his protection but if he doesn't help her then he'd be turning his back on a stray that desperately needs his help.

Add in the mystery of someone who is deliberately breaking the rules and making new strays at an increasingly high rate and Titus has his work cut out to keep peace in his territory. I have to admit I'd guessed who was behind that mystery very early on, there weren't that many suspects after all, but I still enjoyed seeing Titus and Robyn try to figure things out. Their romance was great too and I loved seeing how they dealt with the Council. Robyn was willing to make a difficult sacrifice but they also had a lot of friends working with them and I think the Council is going to get a real shake up over the next few books. It's great to see Pack politics going through some much needed changes and I'm excited to see where the series goes from here.

5 exhilarating stars!

I'm so glad to be back in the Shifters world. Robyn and Titus make an awesome couple and I loved their journey.

It's going to be fun to see the Council finally enter the 21st century. I can't wait for the next book.

Wow! No words suffice to how amazing this is!

The Shifter series is one of the most vivid, well developed, and emotionally charged series I've ever had the privilege to read. I thought it ended with Faythe and Marc, and was happily surprised when Rachel wrote The Hunt- and now Blind Tiger. She has a talent for writing strong kick-ass chicks navigating a man's world, and always makes sure they connect with the reader. So many emotions in this book, you feel Robyn's frustration as well as her passion. These Prides are about family, friends, loyalty, and compassion. I finished this book in one sitting in under two hours-it was THAT compelling. She weaves such amazing tales of reluctant heroines who want a better life, and a better world for others. Read this book, read all of her works. She is a fantastical writer-hope she's working on Wildcats 3 right now;) *hint hint Rachel*

Great book with such a good heroine. She's fun, irreverent and smart and the H was was mad for her from their first meeting. Their story flowed into a good murder mystery, lots of bodies and interesting characters. This book set up lots of opportunities for more stories.

I didn't even know this book was coming out! I love getting surprises. I've been a fan of this world for a while and I was so happy when Ms. Vincent decided to venture into a paranormal romance type setting with a spin off of her Shifters series. The series kicked off with LION'S SHARE and one I was highly anticipating, being that it was Jace's book. After that, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the series. BLIND TIGER gives us a great taste of what's to come and it will leave you hooked.

Titus Alexander is the acting Alpha of the strays in the free zone. More specifically in Mississippi. He's given safe haven to Jace and Abby and is trying to get the Council to recognize him as the first Alpha stray and get a seat on the Council himself. I feel a lot of world politics will be shaken up by this series and I can't wait to see it happen! The possibilities really get me excited about what's to come.

But more than that, I think one thing Rachel Vincent does really well with this series, as well as the original, is to give you such great character depth that you can't help but be involved with ALL the players involved in the story. It's not just a connection with the main characters. I love that about this series because I can really get invested into future books. Wanting to know what's going to happen to everyone and the overall world arc as well. And that's another thing that I enjoyed a lot in this story. There is an overall arc that I can see developing in the deeper shifter politic machinations, there's the romance of course, plus there's something the heroine is dealing with personally as well as the hero. BLIND TIGER really gave me a lot to bite into! It's a meaty read full of substance, twists and turns. The romance is interwoven with it perfectly and I couldn't have been happier with it!

Now for the main characters. I loved Titus. Really. He's a great Alpha, who just happened to be a billionaire before he was attacked and turned into a shifter. So this is a very well setup pack. But he's still quite down to earth and a great, genuine leader. I think my only question about the whole thing was to wonder how he manages to be away from his business so much to run with all the pack situations.

The heroine, I struggled with a bit more. See, we met Robyn in the previous book. She's young and recently turned. She's also in a bit of trouble with the Council. There was more than one occasion while I was reading this book that I would compare Robyn to the younger Faythe from the Shifters series. And that's not necessarily a good thing. The traits that stood out for me were her immature and sometimes irrational, brattish, selfish behavior. The saving grace? This wasn't all the time. And there were a lot of endearing and strong things about her mixed in. So while Robyn isn't my favorite character, she's also not going to be relegated to the annoying and TSTL list.

The "twist" in the end was a bit predictable, since I had seen that coming from a mile away. Almost from the start of that whole situation. But overall, BLIND TIGER was really fun to read and it's introduced us to even more characters that I would love to read more about in this series.

2 1/2

Years ago I read the first book in her Pride, Stray, but was seriously underwhelmed. I wasn't in love with neither the world nor the characters. The author was brilliant, I had read a couple of her YA books, but it wasn't for me.

I'm not sure what tempted me to sample Blind Tiger, but I liked the sample and went on to read the book. Unfortunately underwhelmed is what I felt here too.

I've not read the novella nor the first book, but I don't stand with those readers who bash the heroine because she didn't think. A promise extorted with a death threat isn't a promise at all. She had a right to her freedom, plus, in this book she had no problems with self control, so it was evident to me she was simply a prisoner as a possible breeder and blood giver.
But there was no real angst for all this. Overall, it felt shallow. No angst, no real love, and a hero who at the end looked pretty dumb.

But what really puzzles me is that in this world no one starts a terrorist group or a resistance movement. It's racist, misogynistic, sexist and utterly unfair. But except some lip service no one fights. (Yes maybe there some kind of it, a single person in each book, from what I could gather, but they are a backdrop, an excuse for the love story, but it should be THE story.)

24th February 2017: Reason for adding to wishlist: Because it's by Rachel Vincent :-) That said, I'm considerably less enthused about her romance novels, with a different couple starring in each book. Such as this one.

I'm rereading this series as.I just bought Wild Cat and realised it was the next instalment after Wild Card and I don't think I appreciated Robyn first time around. Robyn is a brilliant character, she has been through a tremendous trauma, has killed people (bad people), seen her college education cut short one semester from graduating been ostracized from her family and friends and been out under house arrest. All because she was the victim of a violent attack that left her the only known female stray to ever survive being infected by a werecat. Good you she was special, but that's not all, Robyn has somehow managed to retain her sense of self and her sense of humor, with invaluable in her current situation. After hearing the ruling council of the werecat arguing over whose son will get the dubious honour of marrying her Robyn decides the situation has become intolerable and managed to sneak herself away in the back of Titus Alexander's car. He is different from the.other alpha cats, his pride is unaffiliated with the council as it's made up of strays (infected cats not natural born) his pride live in what is called the free zone so Robyn uses him and his car to escape. All well and good but the council.isn't going to let her.go that easily, she made a deal with them and they are insisting she honour it as for Titus they offer him the one thing he wants membership in the council and acceptance for his.people....................all he has to.do is.give Robyn back...,...........

I loved the original Shifters series by this author. I'm so glad this book didn't let me down. The overall pace of the story kept me from wanting to put this down. I'd love to read more stories set in this universe from different character's point of views.

I adore Titus. He's exactly the right amount alpha as he is caring. It's hard for most authors to nail it (from my years of experience with romance novels), but this was amazing.

Robyn was very entertaining and sneaky (when it was beneficial to her). I liked her overall, but I didn't enjoy her martyring herself at the near end. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand that fighting wasn't going to end well, but living a life she knew was going to be terrible and controlling doesn't level things out in my mind.
I would love to see a novel with Justus as the main character. He's been through so much. I'm sure he deserves a happily ever after, or in the least some company to help him through it all.

The very ending was awesome, but not surprising. Considering this is a standalone I wasn't expecting anything to be left to the wind. I didn't know how the author would pull it off, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

My Favorite Quote:

"False hope is never better."

**4.5 stars** Loved it! Rachel Vincent’s shifters world is one of my absolute favorites and I’m so happy she’s continued that world with the “Wildcats” series. Robyn & Titus had great chemistry together and I really liked their characters as individuals too. I was wrapped up in the storyline from start to finish. Can’t wait for more in this series!

I think a lot of readers feel as I do about this one, so for once I’ll keep this brief.

The Shifters world is one I very much adore. It’s incredibly imperfect but utterly unputdownable. Or it was, until this spin off series came about. I really appreciate what Rachel Vincent had tried to do here - a snapshot look at three of the female tabbies we had seen as largely secondary characters in the wider series and a chance to have a little insight into how old favourites are doing by dangling those characters at the periphery of these new characters stories. It works, as a money making exercise. It didn’t work though as a reader.

I like Robyn well enough, I just found her story boring and the romance predictable and formulaic. I’m not sure I’ll drop back into the third book in this wildcats series to see if Kaci fares any better though, it’s all starting to feel a bit like a rinse and repeat exercise now.

I'm giving this book a 3.5. It was a really good book overall, but I feel like I didn't have enough time with the characters to really appreciate it. The book was too fast paced and just like the first, could have used a sequel to explore the characters relationships more because it just felt rushed and lacking. The romance was at a nice ish pace, not too "instant romance" for me, which was nice. Yet it was also too slow to really appreciate the romance between the characters who only really got together near the end in this brand new thing, so I really wish there'd be a second book to explore it all. This book really felt like the beginning of a story waiting to be told, not the story itself so i really can't give it anything more than 3.5 stars.

It took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to rate this, and I think I'm pretty satisfied with 4.5. I just really enjoyed this! I liked being back in this world and dealing more with the strays/the politics they have to navigate. My only minor complaint was that this could have been longer (I just want to spend more time with them!).

It's fun to be back in this world as I really liked the series that it was spun off of. I was glad that we got to see glimpses of Faythe, settled into her life and still causing trouble for the council.

I felt bad for Robyn, she was trapped in her situation and the council was trying their best to manipulate her to get what they wanted. Good thing Robyn had a strong personality and managed to best them.

I thought Robyn was ingenious in getting away. I wasn't sure how all the strays were going to react with her, but for the most part it was business as usual. I think having Abby around helped them out getting used to have a tabby around, but it was Robyn's being a stray herself and could understand what they went through.

I loved how Robyn gave Titus hell from the start. You could tell that there was a strong attraction between them, but seeing them work together with the strays and the drams that came up had you rooting for them. I was glad that they were able to figure things out at the last minute, that they did what they needed to, but better was how they were able to out maneuver the council. Those "good old boys" needed to be schooled by a girl other than Faythe.

the Shifters series has always been a favourite. very well written with a great story and really likeable characters and this new story arc continues in the same fashion. love that there is still plenty of interaction with the characters from the initial series. the villain for some reason was a bit obvious and i loved the Titus/Robyn dynamic. the new pack are fun and the strays show a whole new side to the pack mentality. great reading. I have a lot going on right now and don't have much time to review Blind Tiger, book two in Rachel Vincent's Shifters spin-off series, Wildcats. That said, there are a couple of things that need to be touched on.

First and foremost, I want to again say thank you to Ms. Vincent who is indie publishing this series because so many Shifters fans have requested more in the world and she found a way to make it work as a paranormal romance series. I mean REALLY work. In Lion's Share, book one, we were introduced to more of the Strays in the Mississippi free zone. It took pairing off Jace and Abby and then turning their worlds upside down to make them fit in the free zone, but boy did they fit.

Blind Tiger in the first book that has been from a Stray's perspective. Throughout the Shifters/Wildcats world, we've been told that Stray's are second class citizens. Marc Ramos was the only Stray ever accepted, yet even he hasn't been accepted by all and he's co-Alpha. The Territorial Council has been ruled a certain way for generations and they have no interest in changing that. That is until Titus, the Mississippi free zone "Alpha", tries to carve out a little piece of the free zone for himself and the Strays he has working for him as his Enforcers. Throw in a runaway Stray Tabby and Titus quickly learns that he got more than he bargained for when he plead his case to the Council.

I can't say I was a big fan of Robyn in Lion's Share, but other than seeing things from Abby's perspective, we didn't get a lot from her. In the beginning of Blind Tiger, I found her a bit annoying, but as the book progressed, I grew to appreciate her no-nonsense attitude more-and-more and thought she was perfect for Titus. He needed someone who wasn't going to just put up with his shit. She needed someone who not only understood where she was coming from, but was also willing to accept her as is, unlike the Council who have been trying to pair her up with a Tom of their liking to procreate. Faythe may have taken issue with a Tabby's "duty", but Robyn? Robyn basically told them to go frak themselves and ran.

While there is basically an unlimited amount of Tom cats both Stray and otherwise, I wasn't sure how the other Tabby's would be worked into the Wildcat series, because there are so few of them. Again, I must say that Ms. Vincent found the perfect way to work Kaci into the mix and I am seriously itching for book three.

On that note, I have to add that while I really, really like Titus (Seriously, what's not to like about him? *drools*) and thought he and Robyn were perfect for each other, I need more of Knox. Hotter than sin, heavily tattooed, feline Shifter, who also happens to be a chef? Sign. Me. Up. Here's hoping that Knox gets a book of his own because I sinceriously need more of that.

If you're a fan of Rachel Vincent's Shifters series, you will love the spin-off. It may not be urban fantasy like Shifters was, but it is in the same world and honestly, the paranormal romance angle works better than I expected when I started the series. I had hoped that the Wildcats series would just be about Jace and Abby, but it is soooo much better this way. Getting to learn more about the Strays from their perspectives is more enjoyable than I expected and to put it bluntly, these books are romance and thus hotter. I, for one, am a big fan of that.

So I decided it was time to work on my Backlist Challenge and I decided I needed to read a Rachel Vincent novel and Blind Tiger had been calling to me for ages! Rachel returns to the Shifters world once again but this time one new characters, ones that we met in Abby's first book, Lion's Share.

Robyn was Abby's best friend in college until the terrible night when Robyn was turned into a werecat and then kidnapped by hunters and she ended up killing them. Now she's living with the Di Carlos and is being rehabilitated and learning how to control her animal instincts, but she's starting to tire of all their rules. This is especially so when she overhears the Alphas discussing potential mates for her.

Titus had paid a visit to the Alphas trying to get his Pride of Strays to be recognized as a true Pride. However, the Alphas are reluctant to give the Strays any kind of power. Titus leaves the meeting without succeeding in gaining any ground, he doesn't realize until he's crossed the territory lines that Robyn has hitched a ride!

Robyn just wants her freedom, she wants to be able to make her own choices regarding her life and while Titus can see her point, he knows there will be hell to pay if he doesn't get her back. The Alphas are aware of her absence almost immediately. But as fate would have it, Robyn is given a reprieve, she gets to spend two weeks at Titus' place before she must go back and continue her training.

It's not long into her stay when a mystery comes about! A recently infected werecat was brought to Titus' house and his trace scent, the one that could tell who infected him smells very familiar. Titus is forced to leave his growing Pride and figure out who is behind the recent string of infections that keep popping up. And naturally, Robyn decides to tag along!

The mystery element was really good! I didn't really grasp what it all meant at first but once it was said, I was totally onboard! I was making guesses as to what could be the reasoning behind it all and while it took me awhile to formulate a whodunit, I will say that I was right! Lol.

This was a very exciting read! I was happy to see Abby and Jace again, however briefly, including Faythe and Marc! It was AMAZING! Robyn was a great character as well! Since I can't remember Lion's Share really well, she just felt like a new heroine to love! She was fiesty and independent and I love her attitude! She's got some sass to her! Titus is your typical strong alpha male type, but he's not overbearing at all. In fact, he was really considerate to Robyn and her situation.

The romance was both sweet and sexy! Rachel knows how to write a good romance, as has been proven time and time again! I am thrilled that Rachel continued the Shifters series with a greater world series! I'm loving these new couples and seeing the familiar faces again and again! It's really the perfect kind of read! While fans of the original series will full-heartedly enjoy this series, I think new fans will liken to it too! You can easily get into this series without needing to read the first series, though I'd still recommend it! My blog was started because of this original series, so you know it has my full support! Lol.

Blind Tiger was yet another amazing read that proves why Rachel Vincent remains one of my all time favorite authors and at the top of the autobuy list! If you haven't read one of her novels yet, I highly recommend them!

Wildcats make some very sexy shifters

I fell in love with these books with the Price series written by Me Vincent about the years ago, for a first series they were excellent, the books were highly emotional with a very original idea and a complex plot. The series ran for seven books and that was it till last year when He Vincent released a short story called The Hunt which dealt with supporting characters from the Price series, this was followed by Lions Share a full length novel that continued on from the events in Hunt, with me so far. This then is the third book of the Wildcats series. Whereas the Price books are all about natural born cat shifters who live in divided territories known as "prides" the Wildcats books are about humans who are turned into cats by being infected (through a scratch or a bite) from another cat hence the name Wildcats. These cats are considered rogue by the prices and are usually hunted down and killed if they are found to be attacking people or in any way drawing attention to their "condition" Titus Alexander is looking to change that he wants recognition for his people, they want acceptance from the prides and the ability to live and travel freely through the different territories without risking death. He is in the final stages of negotiations with the Pride leaders when Robyn Sheffield the only female stray in the US birds out in his car to escape from the house arrest she has been kept in as part of her sentence for crimes she commited when newly infected. Robyn decides to run after she hears the council discussing who she should be married off to, as a female cat shifter she is extremely rare and is seen as a great prize for any pride to win. Robyn does not want her life decided for her and has no intention of being a brood mare. The shifter series was one of the very first paranormal book series’ that I read back to back without stopping. So it’s a no-brainer that the Wildcats series would be on my reading list as well. I was shocked to find out the second book of the series had released and still to this day do not know how I missed its announcement, but devoured every single word in one sitting. Vincent is known for creating complex, paranormal characters in an ever-challenging male dominated world. Blind Tiger is no exception.

Robyn’s infection and turn was a rare occurrence in the Pride world because she should have never survived it. Natural-born female shifters are rare, but in Robyn’s case, she’s the only one of her kind, a turned female human shifter. She’s unique and uniqueness in her world is both a punishment and a prize. Robyn’s survival could hold the key to bringing new women into the Pride folds, but it also makes her a valuable asset. Under the guise of being “trained” for her punishments after first turning, she lives a life under a microscope. She craves freedom, and when that chance arrives in the form of a stray seeking to establish his own territory, well, she pounces on the chance.

From the moment that Titus and Robyn collide, the sparks flew. As the rest of the story unfolds, readers are left on the edge of their seat to see what happens with these two strays in a world where order and rules compel them all to obey. The moments we are given with Jace, Faythe, and Marc left me wishfully missing the first time I read the Pride books, but reminded me why I loved those characters so much.

I am excited to know that this series is continuing, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

I had mixed thoughts about this spin-off series when I realized that it would be two new characters in every book. And I was even more reluctant because while Lion's Share (Wildcats, #1) had one of my most beloved characters from the first series in it (Jace), Blind Tiger was about two mostly new and unexplored characters.

It took me a while to get attached to Robyn. At first she felt like a mix of Abby and Faythe, then kind of a replica of Faythe. She always speaks her mind, she's a bit of a badass, etc etc; however, eventually Rachel Vincent did establish her as her own person that I got really attached to by the end of the book.

The reason I gave the book three stars instead of four is because Robyn and Titus' attraction to one another felt too similar to Abby and Jace's. In Lion's Share, there was at least some minor build up and implication that it wasn't an instant attraction. And the "forbidden love" theme that Robyn and Titus had going was no longer novel after the big drama between Abby and Jace.

But once I got past that, I actually enjoyed the book and all of the new characters in the Mississippi Valley Pride and the thought that Vincent put into how a Pride formed from strays would be different from a natural born one.

Most of the mystery of the plot (which is another aspect of the Shifters/Wildcats series that I love) is crammed in the end of the book, and the ending is perfect so make sure you make it that far.

I have a confession to make. Blind Tiger has been sitting on my reader since release day. I am so ashamed. I should not have waited. My Tush is very sore from kicking it. It was so good. It was so exciting. It was romantic. It was satisfying. It was the best family reunion ever--Marc, Faythe, Abby and Jace. It was the worst reunion--Blackwell, Wade, DiCarlo.

OMG!!! Titus!!! Holy Hot Cat. I am still purring. And the way he dealt with the Pride Council at times--Happy Dance. It is a shame he couldn't do something about Blackwell. After all of these books that man is still just nasty. Blackwell gets even worse after Robyn, the forced guest of the DiCarlo family, disappears.

As if Titus didn't have enough to deal with trying to have his pride recognized and dealing with a runaway, there is an unknown person out to destroy him. Titus, as alpha, leads the free state of Mississippi. He has the power, money, and the desire. Someone else wants it and will stop at nothing to have it. Even worse for Titus, in the beginning he has no clue. Nail biting suspense. Unnecessary death all in the name of greed. Titus will have to quick on his feet and more devious than Blackwell to survive this. I wonder if shifter cats have nine lives??

Oh my goodness. Rachel Vincent has done it again. She has been one of my favorite authors for years. A tattered copy of Stray in my local library was all it took to get my life long devotion. Years and several series later I am back for more. I thought I had exhausted my love of PNR before this book came out. I mean I loved the first Wild Cats book (Jace is still one of my all time favorite heroes) but after that my reading focus started to shift to more contemporary and dark human based stories. Recently I found myself in a reading slump that lead me back to Ms. Vincent's catalog and when I realized there were stories from this world that I had not read I knew that needed to be recitified as soon as possible. I was not at all disappointed with this story. Robyn was fierce and funny and really likeable (more so than I ever found Fayth to be if I'm honest) and Titus was just...yum. But more than that this story held some really interesting prospects for the future. I can not wait to see what comes next from the Mississippi pride cats. I want both the steamy hot connections and the political drama an intrigue. Everything about these books keeps me hooked from beginning to end. I will never doubt my love for all things werecat ever again.

Book Summary: According to the deal Robyn had made with the council she has to stay with the DiCarlos. The council is meeting with the Alpha Titus from the fire zone to talk about his proposal to the council of legitimizing his pride. While he’s in the meeting Robyn sneaks into his car and escapes into the free zone. Titus makes a deal with the council that she’ll return in two weeks. A newly infected stray is brought into the house and he smells like he was infected by Titus. Titus steps down as Alpha and gives leadership to his second Drew. Titus leaves to find his brother who he suspects has been infected and is the one that had infected the stray. Robyn goes with him to help. They find out his brother Justus, has infected and killed a couple of people by accident. He was infected by Drew as a ploy to get leadership of the pride, Justus kills Drew. Titus then makes a deal with the council with the help of Faythe, Marcus, Abby’s dad and Jace’s brother that Robyn stay with him and they have to legitimize his pride if they want access to her and Abby.

Review: I didn’t really like the story. It felt a little bland and predictable and everything just worked out perfectly in the last few paragraph.

This book was everything I hoped for from Rachel Vincent. He's spent the past year carving his territory out of the Mississippi free zone, forming a community for strays exiled and forgotten by the US Prides. As the first stray Alpha, he's sworn to secure for the toms under his authority the rights, support and respect that official confirmation from the council will bring. But then the council's precious female stray sneaks into the free zone in the back of his car and demands sanctuary. This book is exciting, nail biting and the betrayal of a friend is heartbreaking. I absolutely loved this book just like the "Shifter" series. The Wildcat series is a must read.
