The NHL's biggest bad boy is about to fall for the virgin next door...
I am the world's biggest dating failure. We're talking my last date went home with our waitress kind of failure.
But I have an ace in the back pocket of my mom jeans--my sexy-as-sin best friend, NHL superstar forward, Justin Cruise.
Justin owes me favors dating back to seventh grade, long before he became a hotshot with a world famous...stick. So in return for my undying platonic loyalty, all I want is an easy-peasy crash course on how to be a sex goddess.
How hard can it be?
I have never been so hard in my life.
The things I want to do to my sweet, kindergarten-teaching, mitten-crocheting best friend Libby Collins are ten different kinds of wrong. Maybe twenty.
But I'm a firm believer in teaching by example, and by the end of our first lesson, we've graduated to a hands on approach to her education: my hands all over her, her hands all over me, and her hot mouth melting beneath mine as I prove to her there isn't a damned thing wrong with the way she kisses.
Give me a month, and I'll transform Libby from wall flower to wall banger, and ensure she's confident enough to seduce any guy she wants.
Problem is... the only guy I want her seducing is me.

➦This is a second time this month that I'm this giddy over a book. And I swear it's not even that time of month. But it's not like that time of month would ever influence my rating.
➦But all jokes aside, I'm trying to be a professional blogger here.
➦I've been a fan of Lili Valente's romcoms for a while now and I was expecting this hockey sports romance to be of the same funny variety. But it is totally different from what I've been anticipating! Not to say that it doesn't contain fun banter, because it does. The sports aspect is present but not very prominent. And it is totally swoony and HOT. God, is it hot.
➦That's right. You guessed it. My pants were on fire. You're thinking "God, Maria, you have no shame!"
➦And you're correct again. #noshame This is definitely not your straight up erotica. It's just that this particular trope seems to be floating my boat, if you know what I mean. A hot pro hockey player falls for a kindergarten teacher. Like, why would HE ever hook up with her? But he did so
➦But it's not only the unlikely couple that I loved, it was also the "sex ed" element that got me all happy. Because, when you're a bit awkward and you need pointers on how to date, why not take advantage of your hot guy friend's knowledge? Just make sure, you know, not to fall in love with him.
➦So, I know I shouldn't probably mention other authors on this review, but what the hell, I think Lili Valente and Lauren Blakely are buds. This book sort of kind of reminded me of Mister O, which I loved. It was a similar kind of trope but certainly didn't lack originality when it came to characters. So if you enjoyed Mister O you will probably love this book too.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, and heartbreak.
This is Libby and Justin’s story. Libby needs some help and since Justin is her best friend she decides to ask him for help. Justin will do anything for Libby but what she wants from him is about to change everything. Can he do it and risk losing her forever? If not can he think of her doing it with someone else? Justin will be the only one teaching Libby. But what happens when teaching is not enough? What happens when feelings get involved? Are these two about to more on to the future together or is this the end of the friendship they have had for years?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Ohhh this book was so pucking good! Justin is a hot hockey playboy who is NOT ready to settle down. He does enjoy crocheting...yup you heard me right! Libby is a very inexperienced school teacher who just needs a boost of confidence. She also enjoys crocheting, and she taught Justin all he knows. These two have been friends forever, which is like the totes best way to start out with a hot guy if you ask me. Soooo anywho...they start up a little something-something and the next thing you know they done caught all the feels for each other. I know crazy right? Who would have thunk it? I mean will Justin take a chance on Libby, will Libby even give Justin a real chance...all these questions will be answered if when you read the book ;) As usual I can not wait for the next installment. #Ferdinand
Lili Valenti remains Rom Com royalty with this latest book which is aptly titled as it is most definitely hot as puck!! I really loved this book! Between the storyline, the laughter, the sexts, the sexy times, and just Justin & Libby, well you get the gist, I loved it all!!!! Justin is a super hot and sexy hockey player who get this, crochets! Not only that but he poses on social media with his hand-made items. Sometimes with just his those items, wink wink. He is an amazing player both on and off the ice. Libby is a beautiful and adorably sweet school teacher who does not have much experience with men. She is very innocent especially in Justin’s brand of off-ice activities. They have been friends for years though so she finally asks Justin to help her get some experience. There is some serious hotness between these two and this arrangement goes so well that soon there is more than just a friends with benefits vibe in the air and real deep feelings are involved. Without giving anything away, I think my favorite part besides all of them (haha) was the way Justin communicates with Libby during his hockey game. Will they go their separate ways once her lessons are finished? Or will they make a go as a real couple? You need to find out in this 5 star Rom Com from the amazing Lili Valenti.
Holy wow! I was so pleasantly surprised by this novel, I still can’t believe it! Just when I thought all hockey romances were starting to sound samey, comes along this true gem of a book. The best way I can describe it is, funny, adorable, sexy and heartwarming. It resembles the Helena Hunting Pucked books for sure, but comparing them is almost a disservice to Lili Valente’s unique and endearing voice. I fell in love with her wit and her style, and honestly laughed and chuckled in delight through the entirety of this book. It was a true joy. Simply said, I loved it.
The premise itself is pretty basic but its all in the characters and the execution. Libby Collins and Justin Cruise have been friends since school. Libby is your typical kindergarten teacher who doesn’t take any risks but is endearing and adorable in a very special and quirky way. In fact, I adored Libby and I felt like she was a real person, not just a convenient cliché. Her bumbling and akwardness felt natural and was easy to relate to. She has the worst luck with men and her first sexual encounter was so disastrous and hilarious I felt for the poor girl.
Libby’s older sister, Laura, is a PR associate for the Portland Badgers, a professional hockey team (I’m assuming the NHL). This is the same team Justin now plays for. Yes, he is your typical manwhore star player, but Justin is so much more than that, and I feel like giving anything away about his own quirks is almost spoiling this story.
I found these characters to be utterly fascinating and addicting. They were SO MUCH FUN. There’s just no other way to put it. Justin starts out as an a-hole of the douchiest kind, but then a lot is revealed about him that makes him irresistible and charming to the max. We find out his lifelong friendship with Libby, whom he’s always seen as a little sister, has shaped and defined him to extents he himself isn’t aware of.
Libby is 24 and in desperate need to find a way to act cooler around the opposite sex so she can woo her long time crush, the VP at her school (a dude named Roger). So what does she do? She pleads with Justin for “training” in how to be sexier and more confident to win over Roger’s heart.
Guys, this book was hilarous and so well written. I haven’t been this excited over a new hockey series in a very long time. I just love Lili Valente’s voice (where has she been?). She reminds me of Elle Kennedy in how effortless and right on point every line is. And I think her brand of humor is just perfect, not too crude and raunchy, not too slapstick, not forced at all, just entertaining as hell. I dare you to read this book and not fall in love with Libby and Justin.
I’m only knocking half a star off because I did feel like the progression from Justin looking at Libby as a little sister (which is a lifelong thing) and then the actual sexual stuff was just a tad rushed. I would have loved to see a bit more of these “training sessions” requested by Libby before stepping up the heat and getting into the smexy times. But that’s really a minor qualm because I was too caught up in this book to care. I just wanted to keep going. I always looked forward to getting back into the story and it read like a breeze. The inner monologues were sparkled with funny metaphors and delicious turns of phrases.
I fully recommend this romance. I loved every second so 4.5 crocheting stars! (that’s an inside joke and it still makes me smile). I can’t wait for book 2 in this series which I’m told is coming out May 2017. So watch out!!
I realize the stories we read are a far cry from reality. I mean we read romance novels, right? But there comes a point where the story is so ridiculous, you simply can't get into it. Our lady lead is a virgin kindergarten teacher who wears super baggy clothes, no makeup, and knits for fun. She catches the attention of a top scoring NHL hockey player who has the perfect body, a beautiful face, and also knits. Yep. You read that right. The hockey player sex god knits..
The two are are old friends who were neighbors growing up. Never having seen the other as anything more than a best friend, our lady lead decides to ask him to teach her to be confident in sex. And so the story goes.. Until the end.. Which happens to be exactly the same as another more popular hockey romance book.. Not even the sex could save this book, as it was bad too..
Truthfully, I had trouble finishing this one, but pulled through with some skimming. 1.5 stars is all I can do.
Rating Legend: 5 star-loved it 4 star-liked it 3 star-it was okay 2 star-didn't like it 1 star-hated it
I enjoyed this friends-to-lovers short story and thought the main characters were pretty entertaining. I think the main problem with a short story like this is that we don't get a lot of time "seeing" the reformed manwhore become a monogamous and dedicated loving man. Sure, the big gestures mean a lot but I wanted to see them weather a few storms and navigate the choppy seas.
When we first meet Justin and Libby they are not romantically interested in each other. Justin has just dumped his clingy girlfriend and Libby has a crush on one of her workmates. As they have been friends for a long time, Libby decides to ask for some advice or how to get her man. It's not long before they start to feel an attraction to each other. The tricky part is that neither wants to risk their longstanding friendship.
The narrators do a really good job and I found them very easy to listen to.
Once I got past the beginning where there was no attraction or tension, I settled in for an entertaining little treat. Yes, I would have liked to "see" Justin be in the relationship a little more, but there was enough to leave me somewhat satisfied.
If you're a fan of hockey romance, I definitely suggest giving Hot as Puck a try.
Libby is a virgin kindergarten teacher who's worried there's something wrong with her vagina, after all her only serious relationship her ex turned into a priest after giving her oral. Fed up of her lack of confidence with men because she's crushing on her vp, Libby turns to her friend of over 10 years Justin for help.
Justin is a pro hockey player who's very recently gotten out of a relationship. When Libby asks for his assistance he's surprised both by her request and his surprising attraction to his close friend. He eventually agrees to help Libby but somewhere along the way practice for a relationship turns into the real thing.
This isn't an original plot but in this case I liked the execution. Friends to lovers is a tricky trope for me. I hated when the h has been pining after the hero who sleeps with anything that moves type of friends to lovers romance so I was skeptical with this one. Libby however wasn't interested in Justin that way! She's stunned to be attracted to him and wastes no time in telling him that she won't mind them being physical but she's not interested in more. This saved the plot for me. She gradually falls in love love with her friend just as he does with her. I loved that her being a virgin had nothing to do with him and more her own issues.
Justin was the typical manwhore hockey player but this knitting sexy pro player was cute as hell with Libby. He was all in on the friends with benefits idea but his thoughts and actions as he started to fall for Libby were sweet as hell.
A couple of things I didn't like Justin had literally just came out of a relationship. I'd have preferred more time between his last relationship and his thing with Libby There was a scene with his ex (nothing bad) where she said some stuff that caused Libby to doubt herself. Now we know Justin wasn't involved in anything shady but I'd have liked it cleared up Little references to his love of women and stuff he liked doing with women irked me. It was pretty minor but the best way to deal with a reformed manwhore is to have as little references to his manwhoring as possible The stuff that Laura said that made Libby seem like a rebound, thankfully we get an epilogue which puts that thought to rest
All in all this had much more good than bad. it was cute, sexy and funny. My first read by this author but definitely not my last. I'm not sure I'll be a fan of Laura's but I'm still moving on to the next.
3,5 estrellas.
- the frumpy, nerdy h who never ever had luck with a guy - the man whore H who's a professional hockey player - him showing her how to get the guy she's secretly in love with
You know what's happening...
I don't mind a story line which has been told before if the author tries to make the story special. Unfortunately, there's nothing special about 'Hot as Puck'. It's a short read and that was the only reason for me to finish this book.
Loved this one! He's a hot stud crochet knitting hockey star and she the adorable best friends little sister kindergarten teacher. She wants him to teacher her about sex and he more than happy to oblige.Together they are combustible and such a good match.....his declaration of love....beautiful!
I'm tapping out at around halfway. I like the characters, though Justin is a weirdo (maybe the good kind, depending on your taste. or lack thereof). Their banter doesn't suck, either. But it blew completely past my steam tolerance and that shows little sign of letting up.
I was not going to rate this book very high because it took me a while to really get into it and the storyline wasn’t very believable. I mean really… It’s about two friends that have known each other since they were super young. She’s a kindergarten teacher that is awkward, not really into fashion and she’s a virgin. He is a super hot famous hockey player and they both knit. They have never had any chemistry before, so you can see where it doesn’t really seem like something that would really happen BUUUUUUUT because there were some laugh out loud moments I decided it made me happy therefore I decided to give it 4 stars.
I don’t have a glowing words to say the fact that’s this took friends to lover set up - I’m expecting some slow burn and burning hot chemistry
Nope - I can’t find it , the plot are pretty popular and you can find it on others book that’s not the problem here - somehow back to point one , for two peoples which growing up together and keep reminding readers every so often how they understand each other’s of deeper level at very young age - trust me it’s like looking for a needle in the house of hays while you read their story
Lack chemistry of both main characters and I don’t know which parts of every overbearing dialogue or monologue in this book that I can consider as comedy
No cheating , I don’t have problem with H which typical like many others book about sport romance always having a manwh0r3 main character as H what’s a problem to make a decent guy once in a while ???
Libby Collins, the sweet kindergarten teacher has been friends with NHL superstar Justin Cruise since they were kids, but Libby has a problem her dating skills are terrible and now she wants Justin to teach her how to date successfully. Justin is happy to oblige his friend although he is also a firm believer of the hands on approach, and once these two get their hands on each other there is a chemical explosion that neither expected. I really like this book it was a very sweet but hot read, the relationship between the characters was a beautiful friendship that turns into a hot love affair that works in a wonderful and humorous way. The story line is engaging and funny with lots of sex and hot crocheting tips.
This book grew on me. I wasn't sure about it at the start but it picked up and the characters were engaging. Justin is a hot shot hockey player who has been friends with Libby for years. Suddenly these two are seeing each other in a whole new light and they both fall hard. It's a little bit instalove but then they have known each other for years. Sexy , fun, low angst and a gorgeous HEA. No cheating.
3.5 stars. Not a bad read but not mind blowing either - can’t decide if I would rather round this up or down! This book was very “light”... it could have used a bit more of everything: romance, humor, depth. But it was still worth the read because I needed something light after finishing a book yesterday that made me feel a little dead inside.
Holy shit, this was good! I'm jealous of everyone who still gets to read it for the first time.
He's a shark who roams the open sea banging all the sexiest, most beautiful and successful female sharks, and you're a goldfish who's never been out of your bowl.
Lili Valente is an amazing storyteller. I have highlights on almost every page. There's something wonderful unfolding all the time in this book, and I just couldn't tear myself away from it. I wanted to absorb it into my bloodstream or something less weird but equally as graphic.
All the characters are amazing.
Libby is a sweet, little-life-having, humble, kind, insightful, thoughtful, funny, awkward, charming, phenomenal woman. If she was real, I'd trade my BFF in for her, except that crochet still sounds hella boring to me unless there's a naked Justin selfie involved.
Justin is all kinds of hotness. The chemistry between these two is off the charts, but even when they weren't going at each other like rabid Energizer bunnies, I still wanted to know everything. Listen to every conversation. He has real depth, and he's smart, and thoughtful, and takes care of her. Actually, that's probably my favourite thing about this story - they take such good care of each other. And Justin making the unicorn hat?
Laura, and Brendan, and Chloe, and even Nowiski. I want to learn more about everybody, and I'm already invested in Laura & Brendan's story even though it's not out yet. Normally, this kind of thing chafes my balls. But this time, I'm in so much book love I don't even care.
Impeccable writing, great banter, fun, humour, lots of sexy times, all the good stuff is in here!
One of my favorite authors said that HOT AS PUCK was one of the best hockey romances she's read, so with that glowing endorsement I thought I'd be in for a good and enjoyable read. Sadly, I struggled with this book from beginning to end, unable to get into the characters or their story.
I didn't feel any connection between Justin and Libby at all, who suddenly go from a decade long friendship, to friends with benefits, to being madly in love in the span of about a week. I couldn't get over the fact that Justin was suddenly attracted to Libby just because she wore tight and revealing clothing one night, which made him shallow in my opinion. It was the same with Libby, who was suddenly attracted to Justin just because he touched her that same night; something I'm sure he would have done many, many times over the course of their very close friendship.
HOT AS PUCK is listed on Amazon as being a romantic comedy, but I don't remember finding any part of this story funny or chuckle worthy. Apart from some make out sessions, some sex and some knitting/crocheting, not much else happens in this book. The conflict was a little on the weak side, and while I found the resolution to be somewhat cute, it was also a little cheesy.
HOT AS PUCK is told in dual POVs and comes with a HEA for Justin and Libby. While this story didn't do much for me, I would give this author another go.
-Funny friends to lovers romance. I’ve never read a Lili Valente book before, but this has humor, sexy times and hockey - these are a few of my favorite things...not necessarily in that order, so I was ready to go on this ride. Ms. Valente really has a way with a humorous inner monologue and I found myself laughing more often than not throughout this romance.
-Quirky hero and heroine which I enjoyed. Justin Cruise your typical sexy, rough and tumble manwhore of a hockey god...who just so happens to love crotcheting. Yes, he’s a hooker. He’s been best friends with Libby’s sister Laura since they were kids and has been friends with Libby almost as long. When Libby, the shy, virginal kindergarten teacher decides she wants to learn about the ways of ...well, sex, Justin realizes there’s no way in hell that anyone else is going to teach her but him. And then romance happens. Justin and Libby are both nerdy at heart and their shared love of hooking is a cute touch. It’s those types of details that helped give some individuality to this story, because friends to lovers with a dash of de-virginization (is that a word? If not, I’m making it up) is a tale as old as rhyme. Those can be great, as long as they’re executed well, and I think Ms. Valente does it very well here.
-The chemistry and sexy times are strong. I was digging Justin’s all-consuming desire for Libby, and hers for him. I love the way it took them by surprise, but the reader could tell that it was destined to happen from their very first big scene. Their firsts (meetup, kiss and love scene) were great and I was definitely feeling the romance. As for the hockey…
-The hockey, not so much. If there’s a weak spot, it’s the hockey and its importance to this tale. Other than his physicality depending on being an athlete, there’s not alot of hockey in this hockey romance. I’m not sure if I even know what actual position he played, other than forward. Was he a center or a winger? There’s a smattering of hockey moments, some bigger than others, but really, it’s not fleshed out well. If you’re in this for the romance though, it may not faze you. I kind of missed it, because I do love the game. Otherwise, it was a blast.
I really enjoyed this read, which works primarily as a funny, friends to lovers romance with a dash of hockey. Jus and Libby were the right mix of nerdy and sexy and I really loved their journey. I look forward to the next books in the series.
